When using the s pen on my note 4. I noticed there is two striped areas where it doesn't work it just cuts out. Here is a picture, was wondering if I should trade in for a new one. imgur.com/UpRTPmQ

There is a thread about this exact problem someone had.. It is either in this TMobile forum...or the International Note 4 forum. I go back and forth and can't remember exactly. I think the guy returned his. You don't by chance have a case with magnets, do you?

It can apparently also be caused by magnets on the case

Power Button CRACK? Check your phone.

Was made ware of this issue today in posts on other EVO 4G forums and was wondering if any XDA users noticed the problem. Searched to see if this was already posted here, but didn't come up with any threads.

Mines cracked going to the screen and not the battery.
How did this happen?!
lol @clockcycle, you're making the rounds aren't you?
after seeing your thread at sprintusers I stopped by a Sprint store near my house and showed them. They said they would definitely replace it... if they had any in stock...

I waited 30 days to get a replacement swap out for screen seperation. Now its out of that 30 days and RS says they can't do it now.

Nope. I treat my phones probably better than just about anything. I've never dropped it or hit it on anything. That's evident by the complete absence of any scuffs or scratches anywhere else on the phone.
Also I didn't go in all pissed off or bothered, I just told him I found a defect and asked him his opinion about it
Got the same frikken issue. I had just made the decision to keep the phone today too. I can get a replacement but i am worried whether they'll fix the hole for rooting on the new unit.
Never dropped it. I do believe it could be from holding the power button combo when tryin to boot into recovery early in this EVO's life.
I noticed this awhile ago, i don't notice it unless i'm running my fingernail along it
DAMN IT! I just checked mine and there is a crack. I've NEVER dropped my phone either.
Weak sauce!
Crack free, going on 1 month
Yup, i have one also, but it doesnt bother me at all TBH
Nothing here, so far
I don't have one either, and I did drop my phone once. It was in a hard case, and it fell on carpet.
i don't have one.i think my invisible shield is helping hold it all together.

Yeah I have it on mine. My original store said they'd replace it but the one where I'm at now called it a cosmetic defect and they wouldn't do anything. I haven't even done anything to damage it.

Likewise, its very difficult to see but it does bring out my ocd just a little. I think I'll stop at the Sprint repair center tomorrow. If they want to replace it with a new one I'll probably let them
biggest problem i see with this is that if the other side cracks the we may well lose a power button.
DANG IT! Mine is, cracked up toward screen/speaker. That kind of sucks, but it is kind of invisible, too.
I'll call Sprint tomorrow and see if they'll believe that it happened on its own.
What's up with Sprint chat lately, anyway? It is always off line.
No crack, and dropped it on pavement a couple of weeks ago, no case.
Mine is cracked. Didn't even notice it though until I read this thread.

replace lcd/digitizer

My screen is cracked to all hell. Is there a youtube video showing a strip down of the epic? Is there a guide on how to replace it? I have the lcd and ditizer,so I'm all set except for the actual replacement. LOL

would you mind sharing the source for the screen/digitizer for those that haven't broken their screens yet ?
Just curious.
I do not know how to tear it down yet though.
Thanks for sharing.

You sure you got the right screen? Epic uses SAMOLED, not LCD... also, the digitizer and the LEDs are part of the same construct (one of the reasons it's "super"), so you'd effectively be really just changing the display with integrated digitizer. The glass itself is glued to the plastic case. You'd need to find a way to pull it up, from what I can tell. (I have not ever taken one apart, but it is almost certain that it is a glued screen, which explains why some people are having peeling issues (my Evo had this.))
There is not much for the Epic but some info for the original Galaxy S

Dissemble of Galaxy S:

and there are some tear-down pics of the Epic
Thats prob all info there is :/

yea i was just saying "lcd" i got the right one i know
taking a look at the links below
ok well by the looks of it, its pretty much the same thing. i talked to a tech at a repair center, and he said he MIGHT be able to do it. if not, i think i probably have about 70% chance of getting it right. the video showed a break down right down to the digitizer, and it looks almost EXACTLY like that i have, so in theory, i should just have to go as far as gettting the back off, and putting the back BACK on the NEW digitizer/amoleisupmyassed, right?
also, just for clarification, i know i have the right one bcuz i can see the button whole thingies and its the same as what the epic has (menu, home, back, search)
thanks for the useful links& help guys

I've watched a video for another galaxy phone ... the reason I'm nervous about this one is because on the Epic the screen is on a separate part of the assembly because of the keyboard.
Also: The video shows how to take it apart .. but not how to put it together again. Do I need to glue it together again? What type of glue?

No even though Sprint has it in their system as marked "bad esn" samsung will not have to do with this. Although I don't think Samsungs warranty covers accidents, such as dropping your phone and cracking the screen.
Hope you get it figured out!

Well Samsung has their own warranty thing...but I would confirm by contacting Samsung..don't tell them you swapped networks or anything of course..otherwise I don't think they would bother to check...
You can always flash it back too..unless phone doesnt work completely?
I got the whole screen + keyboard for under $60 on ebay. It turned out to be as simple as unscrewing and unsnapping the cover, disconnecting three connectors, removing the electronics and putting them in to the new frame. If I'd have to do it again it wouldn't take more than 15 minutes.

Got My 2nd G2 Today Without Hinge Issue

Came home today to find that I had received my G2 from the promotion they had last week and turns out this one has a different hinge than my first one.
No biggie, I never thought the first one had that big of an issue but nevertheless I made a video showing the 2 side by side.

So you do reckon they have actually resolved the issue now or have you just got one that is tighter than ur 1st one?
Looks like a change in materials!
I still don't see the fuss about the hinge though.
What fusses me more is that I've gone through 3 G2s and each of them had a pixel problem, be it stuck or dead. Had to use a microscopic-ish lens to find them. Lawl.
I am so jealous right now.

Don't be. People have mentioned that even over time, the hinge will get loose again (this is inevitable, all springs give way over time). So be content with what you have if you have a bug-free phone!

Was it a new upgrade or a replacement, when did you get the first one?
First of all, you may want to get yourself a nice camera that can do HD video recording.
Secondly, your second G2 with the tight hinges is exactly how my G2 was when I first got it. It was super tight, no give, and then after a week of use it become really loose but not quite as loose as your first one. Give it time, and I'm pretty confident that your new G2 will call the loose hinge flu. Let's hope not, though.
My G2 has an intermittent touch screen issue. T-Mobile says it's a known issue. This is unacceptable for me. Aný recommendations? Different model, brand ect. Thanks

Are you sure it's not this issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910624? This is a problem inherent with capacitive touchscreens (though some phones may be more susceptible than others depending on design and tolerances).
If not, you might want to try starting a new thread about it instead of trying to get help through one about the hinge (especially if it really is a known issue, others may be able to provide solutions).

No it doesn't, you just don't understand the nuances of capacitive touch sensors. YOU NEED TO COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT by having solid contact with the metal ring around the outside of the screen.
I've been playing with couple different dummy units at the stores
Like best buy and radio shack. They got no hinge problem at all. But really my wife got a g2 that has the problem but she doesn't say anything at all. me neither. I don't see why the problem would make me go have a replacement though. Unless theres something else. But so far so good

It's been 3 months of use and the hinge is as tight as it was on the first day. So I don't believe that it will become loss at least not during my duration of owning it.

My Screen is Touching Itself

Hi all,
About 2 weeks ago I noticed the bottom left of my screen would activate by itself repeatedly. This mostly seemed to happen when I was trying to type something. It carried on for a while so tonight I flashed a romkitchen rom (2.3.3) (I was on 2.2.1 before), thinking it might be a bug in the system somewhere. Well the problem is still there and I;ve discovered it's always that same corner of the screen that does it no matter what orientation I have it in. I can't even sign into the market at the moment because it makes it impossible to type and the screen ends up freezing until I press the home screen.
Is there anything this could be other than a hardware issue? I did a full factory reset etc during the flashing process.
If I need to send it back would I need to flash it back to stock? I bout my phone from O2 in the UK, where can I get the correct firmware? samfirmware has loads but how do I know which one I need?
Thanks in advance!
Sounds like a hardware issue. Did it ever get rained on or something? Do you use a screen protector?
You might want to edit the topic title, although it is quite funny. Read it and think a bit.

It happens at random. Sometimes it works fine. Not related to being plugged in though
I know someone that had the same issue, though it was with the Vibrant (not i9000m). He sent it to samsung, but it still has the same problem, though not as frequent. I haven't seen him in a while so I'm not sure if he ever got it resolved...

Just to eliminate all possible outside influences, take the protector off and clean the screen really well - and see if it still does it. If it does, then bring it in and try your best to be convincing

I've had the same problem. Unlocked SGS on Orange UK. The problem was on/off for a while but eventually got so bad I couldn't use the phone, removing screen protector made no difference.
I stuck an old Froyo build on and took it into carphonewarehouse, they sent it off and it was fixed in their repair centre. No problems since and that was 4 months ago.
Not sure how you would go about getting the operators rom on there but I'm sure you can mess around with Kies to get it to download the one you want.

WARNING!!! Fake vs Real Note 4

Warning!! I just came across this at work when my co-worker asked me to set up his phone. I realized something was wrong when I saw the screen and size of this note 4. I decided to show it off for those who is considering picking up one from ebay or Craigslist. See the comparison from a real note 4 and see for yourself. There's no real difference w/ the software but the hardware might be a concern since the battery(charger) is not Original it might blow-up or melt. The fake one is really flaky and has weird random vibration and I would not recommend using it at ALL!!
As far as I can tell, that's an N910F, which is the Note 4 for most of Europe (and I believe is Exynos based) so it's not fake, just not US market.
You're are correct one the version. It's a custom rom from the international version. But...see attachment of the cpu spec from cpu z. Also, did you see the back panel w the battery? The fake have obvious over paint...

I saw that, but it's possible for someone to paint a device. That doesn't mean it's fake.
Now the CPU showing up as a Mediatek is suspect, but still not conclusive I don't think as software can be wrong. Regardless, the buyer didn't get what they thought they were getting.
Yea, more and more fakes are popping up. I just remember watching this video where he bought a fake. There will always be a good counterfeit and an even better one.
Testing Wacom digitizer is probably one of better tests. Knocks off using much cheaper digitizer and button on pen doesnt work.

IT'S UTTER CRAP!!! The response time is slow...definitely not as a real note 4. The screen is flaky and you need to press hard or couple of time to get any response from the LCD. Also, I noticed it heated up when I put in the charger. Wouldn't trust this crap charging on my night stand.

Unfortunately it doesn't surprise me in the slightest. People are awful and they'll do anything for a buck, including preying on people's innocence.
We still sell these at my work whenever we get them in, but we put it in big bold letters in the auction- this is a clone, not a real Samsung phone- just so people know exactly what they're buying.
I came across one too. The S-Pen, the thin battery, the light/low-volt charger was a quick way for me to notice some thing was not right.
On the OP picture of the back, you can also tell the heart rate sensor looks different.

I'm sure many of these are sold on the run. Like off the street and craigslist. They'll run away with your money.
Someone tried this on my girlfriend. I ended up beating the shiit out of him than i threw the note in a puddle. Lol got me so heated.
Wow, that's crazy. That's not a clone, that's a counterfeit! ?
And I'd say 99% of people (buyers) would never know it was not authentic!
You would have to be phone savvy to realize it wasn't genuine. ??
To me the biggest giveaway for fake Galaxy phones is always the screen.
Amoled screens are always dark looking when the phone is turned off. If the screen isn't dark (almost pitch black) when turned off 9/10 times it is a fake or possibly a real one Galaxy that could of had screen damage and was replaced with a fake screen.
Check the side by side pic comparison the OP posted.
