Lag problem possibly solved for me - G3 General

Looks like facebook messenger is the problem

If anyone here is dubious or HATES the offical somewhat intrusive Facebook app should check this out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-facebook-browser-t2864561
A very well made minimal Facebook brower app - that does away with alot of crap, give it a try :good:

What drew you to this conclusion?

I reset my phone using safe mode everything was uninstalled as soon as I installed messenger lag was back

Funny how everyone complains about lag but I don't have any on my device ... Guess I'm the lucky one
2SHAYNEZ

I have to say I read this post thinking man what a daft suggestion. Turns out uninstalled messenger. Can't get the phone to lag at all.....before I was getting redraw on the homescreen everytime and laggy scrolling always!

Nothing improved. :/

Ya, I don't get the whole complaining of the lag issue. I'm sure it's installed apps that they keep sync on all the time.
I removed the stock keyboard and launcher and it's running as smooth as can be.

Well I was really surprised, my Nexus 5 is massively fast in comparison. Having a said that since removing messenger it's easily as fast as my Nexus if not faster.

Of course! I've been using Nexus devices exclusively for a good while for this reason but just loved the G3 too much!

Poor performance

Hi,
My partner picked up an arc in the week, and we have both noticed the performance is rather poor on occassion. Sometimes loading an app will take ages (10secs), or even the app drawer will take a long time to open or to exit back to the home screen.
We also had a low memory warning from tasked and upon checking there was only 16mb free with nothing obvious taking up the resources.
Has anyone else noticed this? Firmware version is 3.0.A.2.184
Did you try to do factory reset? this helped for some people. My arc is really fast and everything works great.
with low memory you mean the internal storage? this happens if you installed to many apps. I always move games to the SD this saves some memory

Don't really want to do a factory reset a few days after getting it (I know it might help, but it's more the principle...)
Most the of time it feels pretty snappy, but every so often it just seems to lag for a while.
As for low memory, I was referring to RAM not storage. Internal storage has something like 170mb free, but RAM seems to be constantly running with ~60mb free and dips down to <20mb even with not much running.
The only things that should be running in the background are twitter, facebook and Wordsfree.
i have degraded performance though not that worse, i suspect mine was caused by running background app like yahoo messenger, facebook, g talk and possibly go weather.
also change home to go launcher. this may not be correct, but with default se launcher certain app get killed faster (maps). also opera mobile contents somehow get purged a lot with go launcher (note : this may not be true).
currently available ram drop to 32 or less in hours while previously it took days (or maybe never) to drop below 100 mb ram. sigh..

Performance on Go Launcher was woeful for me, but with the SE launcher and Launcher Pro it seems fine, well aside from the issues in the OP anyhow.
sigh, se default screen protector and input keyboard are slippery. to op, i see that only facebook is what we have in common.
i've completely log out and remove fb data but still it run in the background. any advice to stop it from running (non rooted phone please)?
does anyone know if freeze -ing app stop it from loading or just froze it in memory?
thanks for your input on go launcher and quick reply.
I'm always like around 150MB free RAM, i don't use any kind of task killer nor do i kill anyting. there are 20 apps running right now. The phone can lag when syncing (you see the syncing icon then) but in overall it works really smooth.
I think there is something really messed up. i think you will be beter off with factory reset. if you have root you can use titanium backup.
Funny how all of us jump in saying do.a factory reset or reinstall this or is got to be a app running in the background lol. Phone is beautiful and all but factory ROM is crap! I installed the NAG rom and seems to be helping a bit but yes stock launcher lags crazy. I hate when u have to do so much **** to a phone to make it run better. That would be us but a average person that buys this phone for daily use with no idea of RAM or a different launcher would say **** this phone. To slow. Lol. I love the camera that's why I'm putting up with this. I have two lines tho. Using a Thunderbolt too. Yes it is faster. Snappier.

hmm lets see.. do you have timescape ui on? if too many accounts are synced into the timescape it can cause lag...
One of the programs that's running in background might be messing up. Go to running service and kill all the custom applications (NOT DEFAULT ONES) then see how it works. Less than 20MB RAM will cause performance issues. Uninstall software that you don't use much. Uninstall task killer software if you have one. I find that unstable. If that didn't do the trick then as said before Factory reset would be a best option.

srry but i don't agree with this. A lot of people used my phone to see how it was before we had root. even iphone4 users said that this was snappy phone. i;m with tasgr86 on this one. don't over react. The phone can slow down when syncing and this happens with all android phones.
if you read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077292 you will see that factory reset can do wonders.
I have 2 Arc, My 2 bro have also Arc. None of my bro visits mobile site or XDA to get knowledge about phone, but they have no what so ever problem with Arc. One of them came from iPhone & one from Galaxy S.. Phone is smoot, no lag & very fast...
I'm watching this forum for a long time, and it's amazing how much the community split up - 80% of users love the phone and have no problem with it, while 20% moan about performance and etc.
**** happens; you maybe got a phone with faulty hardware, or something else, w/e - do a factory reset before crying how crap the phone is, common sense really.
My phone doesn't lag or does the browser and ram always sits over 100mb
I just rebooted my device after 40 days of continuous usage.
Arc is brilliant.

he didnt factory reset,,, he re installed the rom... i did the same .. i still have to reboot at least once a day.. phone cant handle me.. i text a lot .pictures taken and web and also google music.. gets laggy after a few hours .. this is not my first or second android phone .. there is something on the ARC that eats memory and wont free it up its like the phone performer slowly die....and the only way to revive it is with a reboot .. still love it tho.... dont mind rebooting once daily
have to agree that something is definitely leaking memory, which only seems recoverable by a proper reboot.. (using the button on the top and not reboot widget..)
trying to figure out what is causing it isn't proving to be a simple task..

I had a similar issue and as much as it might be against your prinicples, I did a factory reset and the phone is now fine. It's much easier to flash an android phone as all my contacts are synced with my google account, most of the apps back up their settings to the SD card and all of the apps you've bought you just redownload from the marketplace, hell google even have my wpa key to get on my wifi. If you aren't prepared to reflash then learn to live with the lag but I think you would find it will help a lot
just a thought, perhaps browser cache put a lot of strain on flash chip? i know people said latency/fragmentation is not an issue on them, but again i've seen many slow down/unresponsiveness on worse scenario.

Laggy/jittery scrolling in certain apps

Hi everyone. This is my first post on these forums.
I bought my first Android device about a month ago - a brand new SGS3 - and I've been very happy with my overall experience so far.
There's one thing though that bothers me and that is lag or jitter when I scroll in most apps.
I googled every way to make the phone faster over the last few weeks. Nothing gets rid of this lag I get when I scroll down in apps like Instagram, Facebook, Falcon Pro, Twicca, Friend Caster, etc.
On the other hand, scrolling in Reddit Sync or Tweedle is perfect.
What could be causing this lag? bad coding? is there a way to allow those apps more RAM usage?
Appreciate any suggestions. Cheers!
Many developers aren't taking Android seriously, therefore making crappy apps using crappy code. Facebook, however, is kinda nice after the 2,0 update but it's still got a long way to go before it's considered "good". Right now, it's not more than decent.

The only thing that bothers me is the extremely noticeable jitter when scrolling on Facebook 2.0. It was unbearable. So I switched to Friend Caster and it's better but by no means smooth.

If you think the Facebook app jitters/lags when scrolling, then you should download Tapatalk. God, that app's a damn mess, but I use it daily for my forum needs nevertheless.

Huge lag reduction and scrolling improvement

If you have lag, try this http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/34khjk/protip_if_your_still_getting_memory_leak_problems/
This turned my phone from a choppy mess to a much smoother experience. It is like night and day right after killing the process. Even chrome scrolling improved 100 percent.
Like in the thread I set up tasker to kill systemui every hour. No ill effects so far except my wallpaper turned back to default.

I'm glad I don't have any issues like this.
I don't really have this issue, but I've tried it with ROM toolbox pro/lite - Tools - Rebooter - and Restarted System UI.. Yeah, I've noticed that's it's a lot smoother and snappier. Dang! Lollipop is a kindof a mess.
I have this problem on twitter, play newstand, any forum site browsed with Google Chrome and even the new adblock plus browser.
Does doing this reset your battery timers?

not sure how to do that exactly, i just made a new time based profile repeating every hour. then made a task under app, kill app, and selected systemui.
pretty simple just click around in tasker for a minute and you will find a way to do it.
I've set up tasker to kill system Ui but haven't noticed much difference, I still have scrolling lag with various browsers and some apps such as Google play, the latest update for play newsstand and Tapatalk. The latest update to twitter works fine now though.

The worst problem with scrolling is XDA. The junk ads here are abysmal.
Can also be done from Settings→Applications→Application Manager→All→System UI→FORCE STOP.
Does killing System UI (I added all 3 of them) via Tasker actually work if you aren't rooted?
Scrolling in Chrome for me is abysmal and everything is so laggy in general. Not to mention the 10 hour battery life.

I prefer the classic theme. It's the same since 2006 when I joined after buying an i-mate JAMin (HTC Prophet).

Is your OPT feeling pretty slow?

Hey all,
I bought a One Plus 2 yesterday (coming from the Galaxy S6) and immediately noticed how unbearably laggy the Oxygen OS was - am I the only one experiencing this? I get a few moments of fluid animations but then things just get choppy, especially compared to the Galaxy S6. I've since put the Chinese Hydrogen version on and it seems a lot more fluid but I just feel like it should be a lot faster? I've been considering just selling it on but this phone is perfect in nearly every other regard.
I was thinking that maybe this is just how things will be until some decent updates come along? Unless I'm the only person experiencing the choppiness.. Then I suppose I should be pretty worried indeed. As a point of reference, I've also used the Moto X 2014 and Z3 Compact which both seemed considerably smoother in operation. Some input from you guys would be great, along with any tips you might have to get the most out of this amazing phone.
Thanks.
Lol coming from an s6 you think its laggy? I switched from an s6 and compared to that this is the fastest phone I've ever had
Sent from my ONE A2001 using Tapatalk
Yes it is laggy as oxygen is still on beta, but you should wait and give time as it is a beast, give some time to one plus and they will fix the issues
You did update it right? The build it comes with is as dog**** as the home button is
Just update to 2.0.2 and u'll be fine.

Yup.. It usually lags when you switch to airplane mode.

Phone is brand new. OxygenOS is in beta.. Let some development happen man, these specs dont lie
I updated and just got mine! Excited but it is slow. Some things up
Seems fast to me. I showed the OPT to my coworker who has an S6 Edge and he was impressed. He said it was faster than his S6. I didn't even ask him that.
Lol you obviously didn't use the fingerprint sensor to turn it on then or try to go to the home screen pressing the sensor home button. Jk
I've had several phones with fingerprint scanners and this one is by far the fastest so far and the phone is quick. Home button works great also. Maybe I just got lucky.
Yeah mine's pretty slow. I went into a phone store today and tried out the Huawei Mate 7, which on paper looks way behind the Oneplus 2, and it KILLED my OPT when opening apps.
I often get lag here and there, but this is less of a problem for me. My mane gripe is how long it takes to open an app. Like, I hit the Phone icon and it literally takes up to a second to launch. That Mate 7 was practically instant.
What gives, Oneplus?
A lot of the issues I initially had with oxygen were fixed after disabling hardware buttons, including excessive battery drain, heating up, and lag similar to what you're seeing. Maybe it has something to do with grounding? Or maybe I just got used to it :S
This phone is just not meant to be a daily driver with the frustration it brings. If you want to be less mad install cm 12.1. Makes things much better than oxygen
Try flashing OxygenOS 2.0.2 again and then factory reset. You may see a bump in speed. I personally have no quirks with the fluidity of the phone. While it does have some bugs all over the place, never once did the phone feel sluggish. But with that said, the OS does need a lot more polish to really make it feel truly complete. Right now despite all the OTAs OxygenOS still feels incomplete, or maybe its because I'm too used to the versatility of a CM based ROM.
It's slow for about a minute after boot but then things are really fast

Actually, the problem is because 2 google apps are using your CPU way too much. Disable the sheets and the slides apps in settings and you should be fine. CPU usage dropped by 40% in cpu-z after disabling these apps.
Update:- actually the CPU now has really less usage after disabling (5% after disabling.).

You see, I saw some lag and I went to developer options>show CPU usage and the most of the CPU usage came from the sheets and slides apps.

Pretty unimpressed with my S6 (lag, lag, stutter ... )

I don't have a good first impression of my S6.
The stock rom eats 8G of the internal storage.
It has a terrible lag, and jitters all over the place. Even just scrolling up and down in the settings screen is laggy. The lag in Chrome gets very frustrating very quickly
Too much bloatware. A whole microsoft suite (among other things) that I will never use and cannot uninstall
Touchwiz launcher, its not really great
On the plus side
the finger scanner is good.
The screen is really nice, but I suppose rendering all those pixels is whats causing it to lag like crazy.
Pleased that samsung made a theme chooser. At last we can remove the awful default turquoise colours.
But I immediately know I'm going to have to root and put a custom rom on here to get it working to my satisfaction .... is there any ROM recommendations to remove all lags, stutters and bloatware?
Is it just me? I am surprised I don't see a ton of people complaining about this
Im on xtrestolite deo mod and have no of the problem i had with stock u could always get titanium backup and freeze all that bloat might help. I know that when i ran stock it would often run out of ram. Now i have betwewn 1 and 1.4gb free.
Wait for the Marshmallow update and judge it again then. Samsung redesigned the whole TouchWiz thing launcher, icons, performance everything. From what I read from the beta is really promising and fast.
Never saw any lag, stock or otherwise. I did occasionally have some low ram redraws on stock, but on roms those are long gone. Maybe take a look in your application manager at what's running and see if there's any unnecessary junk running that's eating your ram. Did it start or persist from any old software, or show up from new software ie updates?

Me too, no lag at all, with stock BUT... if you run MM BETA and then go back to 5.1.1 you will see a very "slow device"
This phone does lag like hell, I had one about 7 months a go and that wasn't too bad.
Picked one up last week and the difference is shocking now, have tried different launchers and no difference.
Makes me laugh how Samsung can't seem to make a phone that is smooth. I have even swapped this out for another one.
All this guff about no more lag in the press conference.
Never had any issues even before I rooted and put a stock modified rom, only thing I would have liked better is battery life, but I get a days use out of it atleast
No offense, but anyone saying the S6 doesn't lag or stutter must either not know what we're talking about or have low fps eyes ?. This phone is an absolute lagfest on stock firmware.
Try scrolling in Google+ or even Tapatalk and you'll see dropped frames all over the place.
Just about the only thing that helps is flashing a custom kernel and enabling enforced mode (try Unikernel for size). That makes a world of difference.
yes I have the s6 since 4 months now. before I had a oneplus one. this was fast. but the s6 is very Laggy. however it has the best benchmarks but the Ui it's definitely Laggy on every edge. so I had a lot of other devices before. for me the most qualcom devices are running smoother. but there are some other positive aspects on the s6

Lag?? U sure, mate? I'm using the S6 for more than a few months now and there is no lag in the UI. Maybe some minor frame drops occasionally (I'm sensitive to those , most people don't notice them), but no lag. It's not normal.
Mine is stock with some native apps disabled. Also I jave turned off the smart manager protection. And I can compare it with Nexus 5. I'v had many Android devices and I know what I'm talking about.

I've also owned countless Android devices (including Nexus). Most recently I came from an OPO and a Z3C before the S6. GUI lag/stutter is a pet peeve of mine with Android, and while the OPO was almost perfect after some optimization and the Z3C turned out OK, the S6 is frankly a joke in comparison. Especially considering its theoretically superior performance.

I think I'll try the Samsung marshmallow firmware, cheers for the tip @Riardon ... if its just the same I'll try some custom roms.
I'm kinda glad others confirm the lag/stuttering and its not just me.
For comparison, the phone I am replacing is a S5 running Exodus rom, there is absolutely zero lag or frames dropped in any scrolling or animations. It really makes the S6 look bad. Not what I expected as the S5 is like 18 months old now.
Here is a quick video I made for the non-believers out there. S6 is on the left. It doesn't matter that the video is not in focus (because of my finger getting in the way), the point I am trying to make is scrolling should be smooth on a new, expensive Android phone, I am astonished at how bad it is on the S6. Other places in the phone are also bad, Chrome is the worst though.

Keep in mind, however, if you do root you will most likely trip the knox counter on your device. This could cause some problems with warranty, and you would not be able to use Samsung pay on the device. If these things don't matter to you. Rooting is okay.

Rooting/flashing ROMs/kernels can be done without tripping knox by using the engineering bootloader. You'll find great tutorials here on xda.
My S6 has never lagged, not even on stock. I found it to be smooth in generally and I am someone who looks at framedrops and any other possible slowdowns.
Also guys don't forget to check your apps. It may sound weird but some well known apps causing some extra lag on top of what TouchWiz has. For example I found out that SwiftKey on my devices creates some extra lag and it's slower than other keyboards. Some apps are just not optimized well and this the reason some guys see worse lags and stutters than others. This one is tricky to determine those apps but you have to experiment. TouchWiz as it is now yes it's laggy but not worse than older TouchWin on S5 for example. Still needs work but Marshmallow is promising. Wait until then guys you may surprised pleasantly. Unfortunately some apps on Android running like sh***t and we blame the phone sometimes. And remember to always keep your phone at minimal. Disable all extra stuff you don't use and use only the apps you actually use often or truly need. This is for all phones not only for this one.

If I understand correctly using the engineering bootloader results in the loss of use of the fingerprint scanner.
