Getting replacement tomorrow - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 General

I have owned an s3, s4, note 1,2,3,4 and this is the first time i have had to return a samsung phone.
The lag was so bad, and i posted for help and tried everything, that when i showed the manager today he even got frustrated trying to navigate the thing.
I even took it to a samsung service store and they admitted it was a lemon, as she called it.
Even better i really wanted a white one and he is going to let me swap my black for the white one he is getting tomorrow.
So to those who have denied, or called out those complaining of lag, it is real and is a defect.
I tried every unit at the samsung store and every one from every carrier was lag free.
I have used more foul language and lost more sleep the past week trying to fix that damn thing it is ridiculous. Thank God i can sleep well tonight knowing i am getting a new one tomorrow.
Just as an add on, i know there are some good and smart phone reps out there, but the few samsung people i dealt with over the phone and the one in the store were about as knowledgeable as my parents. I love it when they read the script to you on their computer screen lol. "Have you taken the battery out and restarted?" Really?
Anyway, for those of you experiencing problems, the way i see it is if i am gonna spend almost a grand on something it is gonna be right. I understand there is always issues with the first batch of anything, but this was my first time going through it and i feel for the guys who have had to swap devices out three and four times.
I pray the second one is right.
A thank you to everyone who tried to help me solve the problem, even though it was defective you all helped me learn a lot more about phones than i knew before this happened. I have been on this site since I owned my htc hero and hd2 and through the years I have seen some rude and disrespectful members, but I have also met some good friendly people and made friends. No doubt my rambling post will get some knocks but it is part of the game.
Thanks for reading.
One last thing, does anyone here own a Note 3 that they are keeping? There is a reason I am asking and I will tell you why when i get a response.

Well my 1st N4 had a dead pixel and my 2nd had crappy machining on the aluminum edge. The cnc machine basically gave up on doing the right side chanfer. ( shiny part on the aluminum trim) half way up the phone. Didn't noticed till late at night.. Im on my 3rd and this one is good.

l hope I don't have to go to a third. I may go more insane

I'm on my second N4 too. My first was a nightmare to get set up (took 1.5hrs in the store), lagged like crazy, had a back button with a mind of its own and rebooted at random.
I'm very happy with my replacement N4.

Anyone notice speaker crackling. I have noticed this on my phone.

To OP, or anyone else who had to return a N4, were any of you rooted?

Good question.
I am having data issues and was told by T-Mobile that I am still within my Buyers Remorse period and can swap out the phone if I want to, which is what I am thinking of doing tomorrow.
Just wondering how the KNOX / ROOT situation will go or do they not even look at it? Please advise

I was rooted and Knox tripped on 2 N4 returns. I did mail in returns. Both were refunded within 3 days of my return package arriving at T-Mobile.

Tmo reps don't check for tripped knox or root.
I do know the Tmo my account checks for that tho

I did keep my note 3. In my opinion it runs better than the 4 ?

Might I ask why you're on your 3rd N4?

need to send phone in for replacement, chance of requesting AT&T version?

i've been fighting with HTC to get my Nexus exchanged for two weeks now, i finally got them to agree to exchange my rooted phone (paid to have dust issues fixed, came back worse then before) but since then the AT&T version of the Nexus has been released.
so, what i'm curious about is getting an AT&T replacement device to replace my T-mobile phone since i'm on AT&T.
has anyone tried this? had any luck?
100% chance you can request it.
Something less than 100% that they'll actually let you switch.
That was terrible, but funny and true.
I would just try to talk to them real nice and sweet and if you don't get the ok the first time. Call back the next day, then the next day, then the next day. After a week or so then finally ask for a supervisor if you havn't talked to one yet... In about 2 weeks you should have the Final Final Final answer.... Who know, it is worth a try and a few hours of your time.
There is pretty much zero chance they'll let you switch. They're 2 different part numbers with 2 different internals.
That's like sending back your computer with a Core 2 Duo and asking for a Core 2 Quad back. Well... sort of...

How much did it cost to have the dust issues fixed? They just sent me a replacement phone and I sent my original rooted N1 with dust issues back today. I'm wondering if they will check to see if it is rooted and make me pay to fix the dust, make me pay for two phones, or allow my to send back the replacement and forget anything ever happened.

9th exchange, at the very least.

Hello everyone,
I need some advice or suggestions on what to do. The Mytouch 4g, as you all may know, has a lot of problems. I've done many exchanges now, and some of them were done back to back. The first few times, TMO was able to ship express for free, but now they are charging me $9.99 for regular ground shipping even though the phones that I receive are defective. I am very frustrated at this point and have been thinking about canceling all 4 of my lines with them and eating the $800 ETF. What do you guys think I should do?
You may be wondering why I have to exchange it so many times..
Unlike the fellow perfectionists that you guys are, I never exchanged a phone that had a bad screen or squeaking buttons. The first time I exchanged it was because it had two dead pixels, then the power button would no longer work, then there was a ton of dust under the screen to the point where I had trouble seeing the top left corner where my status/notification bar is, then I had wifi and reception problems, then I've had the phone either shut off or reboot on its own.
I've been running into many, many problems - and they are not always the same problem either. After the third phone, all they have been doing is sending out refurbished units that are 'pre-damaged' by the previous user. On top of that, I have to pay for shipping on each phone, plus the Zagg's invisible shield (it's about $23 with labor on installation) that I had on several of the replacement phones. After troubleshooting for hours on end with tech support, I noticed that my battery cover is loose since they had me reboot/remove battery so many times, I ended up buying the gel skin case from TMO yesterday so that the battery cover wouldn't fall off.
I would be glad to take any advice that you guys have at this point. Thank you.
Edit: By the way, I did not have any apps other than opera mini - didn't even update youtube and things like that.
The statistical likelihood of getting 9 defective devices in a row is astronomical. Truly. If you are being honest and these are all really manufacturing defects then you sir are the unluckiest ****er ever and you are never welcome to babysit my kids. I don't really have any advice except to say that if your next problem is software related, try rooting and see if that fixes it. Otherwise I would avoid crosswalks and commercial flight if at all possible. Damn dude. Unlucky...

They can offer to give you a different phone all together. Like the g2 or galaxy 4g. Just ask

Do this. Call tmobile and tell them the issue with your device. Have them do another warranty exchage, but, instead of getting it shipped, tell them that you really do not want to wait once more to receive another device shipped and that if you can go into a tmo store and pick up a warranty replacement. They shouldn't have a problem telling you yes. Have them call the store so they can tell them you will be going in to get a warranty replacement. This way for sure you wont get a refurbished device. You will be getting a brand new one out of the box. This is the way I did my warranty exchage. They even gave me an extra battery for free.

I agree with coupetastic-droid and also after your 5th replacement you should get a different phone if u want for ur replacement. Try for a g2 or even a g2x!

TJ you crack me up. I actually went through this guys episode with a mytouch slide, 5 phones under warranty, but they never charged me a dime for shipping. The one and only issue i had with the Mytouch slide was dust under the screen. I can't remember if it was the 3rd or the 4th replacement i got in the mail, but that one came with dust in all four corners. Didn't even insert a SIM card in that phone just took it down to my local Tmobile store and the manager exchanged it for me. After the 5th replacement with dust i decided to sell it and replace it with a MT4G. Well it was all good for a week until my power button failed to work, 1st exchange. They made me pay the 9.99 shipping for that one. Receive the new phone and i notice the display sucks compared to my wife's MT4G. Instead of calling in to tmobile i drive down to the local Tmobile store and i show the manager my predicament ( mind you this is the same guy that was exchanging my Mytouch Slide). Nice guy orders me another MT4G, waived the shipping. 3rd phone arrives a few days later, display is washed out, but i decide to live with it. Figuring that if i exchange it again I'll get another one with the crappy display. F**K me if the power button doesn't work after two weeks. I go back to the Tmobile store and have another chat with the manager, orders me another MT4G and waives the shipping. Manager tells me, "You're the unluckiest man i've seen with a phone", and i said "yes, yes, I am." Last exchange was the charm, good screen, and the power button actually works. I honestly thought i was the only poor bastard that could be this unlucky with phones. I have to show my wife this post, so she doesn't think i'm the unluckiest man alive. You sir have just made my day. If you can i'd go to a local tmobile store and see what they can do for you. Best of luck.

First of all, nice 'Lude. I just picked up an 07 Civic Si Sedan on Saturday and I ****ing LOVE it!
2nd, are you running stock Sense or rooted? To be perfectly honest I've found the stock Sense to be much more buggy than the cm7 I've been running for the past 3 or 4 months.
My first phone had random reboots and such and a factory reset seemed to solve the issue, but I'm assuming they had you do that multiple times.
Even if the phone is fresh out of the box, do a factory reset before you use it. It might help, it did for me.
Otherwise check out cm7 or one of the Sense roms around here. Removing all the bloatware actually does wonders for stability. If you really want I can upload a nandroid of my own stock rom with the bloatware removed.
On my 3rd mt4g and I'm about ready to go back to iPhone most androids have to many hardware issues.

First of all, yeah.. my Lude is old news. Since then, I've switched to an S2k, but that got stolen. Now I'm in an 06 Evo.
Anyway, back on topic..
The phone is completely stock. This is the FIRST PHONE I've ever owned that I have kept stock - Why? Because I don't want to have to unroot it when I send it in for warranty repairs.

Unrooting is as simple as flashing pd15img.zip through hboot. Not that hard.
Definitely try a different rom. As I said I've found cm7 to be much more stable than stock.

i got pretty bad luck with my phone. finally got a good one after like 9 exchanges and a month later the power button went out. i called them and they told me i couldnt exchange anymore cause i "had too many problems with the phone." so the rep told me that the only thing they could do left is to exchange my phone for a motorola charm.....i was like wtf why the heck would i want to downgrade my phone, which polly cost more then that piece of **** charm and it doesnt even run android...major downgrade.
Dude. That blows. Hard. I'm sorry to see that you're having so many problems with your phone and I'm glad I don't have the same luck as you. I got mine from eBay and it came in perfect condition. Never had dust under the screen, good screen, no faulty hardware, etc.
But in all seriousness, after 5 phones, I wouldn't keep it. I personally think that it's a great phone, but if I had to take it back 9 times, I'd try something else out. Ask if you can switch. It shouldn't cost you anything as long as the retail price is equivalent or lower than the MyTouch 4g, and if I'm not mistaken, it's one of the higher priced ones (rightfully, so). If you don't hate a keyboard, the G2 might be good for you, but I hear the hinge has problems and knowing your luck, the hinge would break apart upon first use. So maybe the Galaxy S 4g? I know Samsung has great hardware, even if their software is crap, as is their update schedules, but that is easily fixed with custom ROMs.
Either that, or wait and return it completely, if you're still within your return time and keep your upgrade for when the better phones come out, i.e HTC Sensation, etc, and just use something affordable off of eBay or Craigslist. Meh
Just my two cents. Sorry if it didn't help much, but I hope your luck gets better. :/
Update:
My luck has gotten worse. I received another replacement phone on April 15th. A week later, April 22nd, I noticed a dead pixel on my screen.
*Sigh* I have no idea what to do now.
You need to move on to a different device. I've never heard of anyone have so many problems with a device.

I called in and spoke to technical support. They asked me to bring the phone to a store so that they can fill out a request for warranty exchange form. However, their tone basically implied something like, "It's impossible that you are getting so many broken phones. We need to verify that your phone is really defective before we do another exchange."
I brought it to a store and the retail sales manager had no idea why technical support sent me there, and basically told me to go call customer service again. He did, however, notate that there were a few dead pixels on the screen and that there was no physical, nor was there water damage.
I then called retentions and the supervisor picks up (without any transferring either). I explained to her exactly what happened, and how technical support had sent me into the store. She told me that she has no idea why because they could have filled out the form for warranty exchange over the phone, just like the other exchanges that I have done so far.
She apologized for what happened and said that I qualify for a multiple exchange (sorry if I got the term wrong!). She said that the manufacturer would exchange my Mytouch 4g for a Motorola Charm..
I explained that it would be a MAJOR downgrade. She then submits the form for the exchange and told me that it would be shipped express free of charge.
So you getting another mt4g or the charm? I'm still teipping about them offering you a charm over a mt4g. They are nuts!

Another MyTouch4g.. Hopefully the 10th one's the charm!

anybody else planning on keeping there note 7 instead of sending it back?

24 defective phones for every 1 million made is decent odds to me. I never use cheap charging cables or blocks. I buy everything samsung and I've never had problems with any phone I've had. I think im gonna keep my phone because the pre order was a pain in the ass and I dont wanna go through something again where i cant get a new batch note 7
I'm on the fence too I'm holding on to it I'll see how replacements start going in the coming weeks.
Holding on to mine until they actually have a unit to swap, I don't want an s7 edge even if it's temporary.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N930A using Tapatalk
I'm thinking about holding mine too. I've charged my phone plenty of times and had no issue... Does that mean I'm fine?? Lol
Hanging on to mine till they get the new ones in. If I had wanted an S7 that's what i would have bought in the first place.
I read that we have the same batteries as the ones that exploded, but different processors. Supposedly the snapdragon will sgut the phone down before it gets too hot where the others didn't

I'll swap mine once the new batch arrives but I like this phone to much to give it back. My wife works for at&t and she told me all day people have been bringing there notes in.
I just went ahead and returned my Note 7 earlier, went back to my Nexus 6p didn't want to take any chances. Didn't have any issues with AT&T with full return, didn't really want to bother with an S7 or any other exchange since honestly it wouldn't be the same as the Note plus I still had my paid for 6p. Kinda missed my 6p anyways, may come back to the Note whenever they get issues resolved.
It takes me a full day even with Smart Switch to get my phone set up. I may not return it at all. Of the reported cases of fried phones all were being charged at the time. So worst thing that can happen is my phone fries itself on its wireless charging stand. I've been using the 25W charger and the phone doesn't even get warm. I doubt there will be statute of limitations on exchanges so I'll wait until I scratch it or have some reason to get a new one down the road. I know it's a game of chance but no one on XDA which has a worldwide audience has reported a personal phone frying incident. So the odds might be better than some of the speculative threads here would make them seem.
I'm wondering about exchanging for the v20 when it comes out, if the time line lines up.

What did you miss about the 6P? Have always been curious about pure Android.
ive got the 930FD , Im holding mine.
Replacing it tuesday. AT&T in Chicago will have note 7s without the issue. That said I will replace it and with the replacement, I'll sell it. I think while the note 7 feels great in hand, I am going to really get a pixel xl and the iphone 7 (piano black)
I'll be selling it with the galaxy gear s2 as a bundle so we will see
Took the sim card out of the Note7 and put it into the Nexus 6P for now. Will hold on to the Note7 until replacements ship into the store.

Well for one, the relative ease of rooting. Unlocked bootloader, no bloatware etc. Not having to worry about finicky bluetooth, just basically works as it should even after rooting. Sure root is there for the Note 7 but just a tad bit tedious and was starting to not be worth it for me. Sure it's no touch wiz UX or w/e they're calling it now and no S pen but I've been okay without it before, some may think pure android is "boring" but that's what customization is for.

How are they getting the new ones in when samsung said it will be weeks
Cracked out N7
Well I read that the problem is An overheating of the battery cell occurred when the anode-to-cathode came into contact which is a very rare manufacturing process error, so people reported this happening after 2 weeks of using the note 7, also some sites say a way of knowing if your note 7 could explode is looking at the manufacturing site, its behind the phone and can barely be seen, if it says Korea or Vietnam, then its on risk, like mine that says Korea, so the truth is that it can happen at any point from the first day to later on, so they have to be replaced, am charging mine after I wake up, in an hour or so its at 100 percent, then it doesn't need charging till the next morning, but if it takes too long for the replacements to arrive, I think I might get the s7 until then, I have three kids, wouldn't want anyone getting hurt by this.

Bootloop, LG and Farewell

Well, it's happened on Monday. Was using my phone and bloop....screen goes off and that's the last time it worked. Gradually got to the stage where it wouldnt even loop but my 5x is dead. RIP.
So, being out of warranty and all I sent an email to LG to see how much it would cost to repair. Reply came back with a series of questions but no "reply to" address. That's one way of hiding from the problem I suppose. For a company to try and avoid their responsibilities for a screamingly obvious hardware flaw is way out of order. At least Samsung had the guts to put their hands up.
Sharing this as part of the grieveing process in a way for the old Nexus devices. Had a 4, a 7 and then a 5x. The Pixels came out but when I saw their price tags and the setups it just reeked of apple (excuse the bad swearing language). Very sad really for someone who rarely went a whole week without the simple process of changing rom or setup or kernel but that was the beauty of the Nexus ethos.
Since Monday evening I have been the owner of a Moto G5 Plus. Only charged it three times since getting it. Ads are part blocked in stock, it's nippy and am moving on with my life post nexus. Trouble is it's still on 7.0 but not a big issue for me.
Anyway, thanks guys and gals for the good times. LEarnt a lot about android, poor customer service and build quality from LG and made some good friends (and enemies) on here.
Keep happy
My 5X also died from last Sunday.... I sent my phone to authorized service (Procordia in Greece). I'm waiting now when the phone will be fixed (changing motherboard).
So I know you already moved on to the G5 plus, but you should see about getting it repaired. Then you could always keep on hand as a .spare device. Mine bootlooped (a second time) well out of warranty but I filled out the RMA request on LG's website (didn't talk to anyone, just like I did the first time) and they fixed it a second time for free. I don't recall how long they did it for, but they extended the warranty
edit: should point out I'm in the US and it might not go as well in other countries
My nexus died on me yesterday, still have 3 days left in warranty. Filed 2 reports to LG to request a repair and have had no email or anything, its as if my request has vanished. This is utterly ridicolous as I need a phone and I'm currently without one and can't afford anything worth buying. Will have to resort to using my Nokia 1600. Shame on LG for being like this
You should try contacting LG via phone and that might work better. The 5X warranty has been extended to 18 months on a case by case basis since this is a hardware problem. If they won't fix it, all you did was spend time on the call, but if you are eligible to have it fixed, you'd have a spare phone.
These bootloops are getting more and more common as our phone ages. Mine froze and shut down randomly and bricked while using it a few months back. Thankfully I bought mine here in the UK from Carphone Warehouse where I sent it for repairs, got the motherboard replaced, and fixed in one week, for free with the 2-year warranty. It sucks that LG aren't willing to help you guys though.
Mine died on me earlier this year. Luckily I had some backup phones. Using my old 2013 Nexus 5 currently. I can get life from my phone here and then but it freezes and shuts down during the boot animation. I bought mine from someone off craigslist so I doubt I'd have any luck getting it fixed by Google or LG. Too bad parts are hard to come by or I would try and buy a new motherboard and replace it myself. I really do miss using the 5X though. Just got to hold off until the end of the year for the next Pixel.
My Nexus 5X also bootlooped itself to death yesterday. I purchased it January 2016 when my Nexus 5 decided to kill itself. Unfortunately I also bought a 5X for my girlfriend at the same time which I'm expecting to go anytime now. I'm currently using my Samsung Galaxy S II that I bought at launch and is still alive 6 years later. Sucks because the only new phone that looks good to me right now is the LG G6, but I don't trust LG anymore so I don't know what to replace it with. Galaxy S 8 is purdy but I don't want to deal with burn in (like on my GS2). Essential also looks nice but doesn't have a headphone jack so that's out. Might have to go Sony with it's gigantic bezels. :-\
Update: Getting a refurbished replacement from Google. Hopefully by the time this one dies there will be some more appealing replacement options.
My second 5X died few days ago. Good phone bad quality
Mine died today. Warranty expired last October but they are sending me a refurb replacement. I've had it since November 2015 and even Bought it off swappa so I feel fortunate in one way but a phone should last a lot longer than that.

Who did you go through? Google or LG? I bought mine from someone off Craigslist but haven't tried asking for a replacement since I've never had any type of warranty. Did you have to show any kind of receipt of buying it or anything or did they just simply say "Ok" and send you a refurbished one? Also, did you call them or email them?

I went through Google. All they did was ask for and run the lME number. I did not expect anything to come of it but I thought it was worth a try. I chatted online.

Well I just might do the same. If you bought it from a third party and it died yesterday and your already getting a refurbished one, I think I may have a shot. Good to know. Thanks
Well. Some progress here too.
Decided to give LG a go but as I bought it over ebay they wouldnt entertain any warranty work but gave me their out of warranty people called SBE here in the UK.
Contacted SBE and without any commitment on their behalf the fella said that they would look at it and if its not showing signs of damage and water etc then it should be covered as they have permission to replace faulty motherboards with only postage costs.
So am packing the phone off to them and see what happens. Anybody else experienced this route? Would be worth getting it fixed just to sell the damn thing afterwards.

Sure,
the verbage is a bit intimidating saying that they are putting full price for refurbished on hold on your account to see if it is covered by warranty but what they want to do is make sure you didn't run over it or drop it from a ten story building.

So you have to send the broken phone to them I assume?

Yes, and then when they receive it and see it's not physically damaged (water, smashed screen) they refund you back the price of the phone. I didn't have to pay shipping either way.

It's kind of funny they would even hold onto the price of the phone seeing as the device isn't under warranty and it would be no loss to them. I mean, what would be the scenario where they would actually charge you the amount of the phone?

They send you the phone right away and give you 21 days to get the bad phone back to them. The hold is to make sure they get an undamaged phone returned to them.

Ah, ok. Well that makes sense then. I thought they would send it to you after they analyzed the damaged one.

Galaxy s8 defective Samsung wont replace it, what to do?

Hello everyone, I have been an android user for around 5 consistent years now and I got an LG g4 when it first came out, well after about a year of use it broke so I was without a phone for months, so I waited for the galaxy s8, I pre-order it, and I should have learned my lesson about buying phones right when they come out, I did that with my LG g4 and it had that hardware bug. Anyways I have had the phone for awhile now and it has started to freeze, the screen shuts off and won't respond for a few minutes, it will freeze for 2 seconds then shut down and reboot, the battery life is about 2 hours at 100% charge, it gets burning hot while charging and sometimes while I use it and about 2 weeks ago, I had picked up my phone off my desk and looked at the back of it and it was cracked, I know I didn't drop it either because if I do I will look at it for a good 20 minutes and the room I was in has very soft carpet so it won't break, then last Saturday I went on vacation and my I woke up that morning and grabbed my phone, and what yah know it was broken on the front and worse on the back, and I know 100 that I didn't drop it then either, because it was on the charger, so I called Samsung today, a few times actually, the people could barely speak English, were very rude and were giving me wrong information, and the problem is they want $205 to fix the screen, well why would I pay for something #1 I didn't break #2 it's defective, so why would I pay to have the screen fixed on a defective piece of hardware? So right now I am at a loss and I'm very upset, So basically I turn to my favourite form in my hour of need to ask what I should do, and I can't return it either because I'm making payments on it over sprint, also I may be uninformed of the situation because I have never had this issue, so any help you can give me is extremely appreciated
Device information: Samsung Galaxy s8 sm-g950u Arctic silver.
any questions and any answers or help or anything would be extremely appreciated
Not sure if this will help or not, but it sounds like your battery is bad and expanding inside of your phone.
Good luck bro, getting a free replacement for a cracked screen is almost impossible... I kno, I dropped 2 lg g2's in a 2weeks time span of initially getting the ****ing thing... went thru my carrier "Verizon" to get a replacement, although it worked out in the end for me cause the 2nd time I dropped the g2, they didn't have anymore g2 replacements so they sent me a g3 instead... if u have insurance thru ur carrier that's ur cheapest n best bet
You don't need to deal with Samsung directly as it sounds like you purchased the phone through Sprint. Take it to a Sprint store and explain what is happening or call customer support if you wish. They will be much easier to work with. To reiterate call Sprint not Samsung.

Already talked to them, they wont do anything they told me to contact samsung.
Maybe you was sleepwalking and you broke your screen? Joking. Now seriously your screen it's cracked. What do you expect from Samsung? "Yo my screen it's cracked! How did you cracked? I didn't cracked yo! Then how did it got cracked? I don't know...magic yo!"
Just pay the 200$, get your phone fixed and move on..
I am with the first commentary. I have a repair store here in France and I have seen 3 batteries swell up and break the screen. Not much you can do. Warranty will only get you so far. It seems the customer service ppl are there more to deflect the customers away more than to help. They are hoping For you to give up period .And move on so if you just keep trying and pressuring them though replace your phone if not your only option is To pay the $200 .
