TWRP isn't reading my sd card. - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a sm t230nu and I can't get twrp to see the external sd card. I have a zip I want to install, but obviously can't see it. Unfortunately, I soft bricked this thing and I need to get it back to stock. I tried getting the odin image from the link posted on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55533088&postcount=50 , But I can't actually get to a download page. It keeps bouncing me around to other pages. Do i have to register for this site to download stuff?

On Sammobile you do have to register for the download

Stuck in stock

I used Odin to return to stock and when I reinstall packages I get root but no new recovery. Still stuck in 2e unable to flash anything. I have done this many times before with no issues. Anyone have suggestions? I don't want to be stuck with stock! :'(

You have to reinstall packages 2 times in a row

Take the SU.zip off your internal and put the CWR.zip on there and reinstall twice. Since you are flashing and only getting root and north custom recovery, that makes me think you are not flashing the CWR zip.
I tried...

Well ive never heard of a cwr.zip. nor one called cwr.zip that is recognized as an update.zip for reinstall packages so good luck.
If that isnt working for you than theres something wrong cuz for 2 years thats the only way ive used

I think my dropbox links might be working now. Go to my sig and click on CWR and download it. Open folder and put the update.zip (it is 1.7mb and make sure it is labeled Update.zip and not CWR.zip) on the root of your Internal_sd so it the only thing labeled update.zip on there. Make sure you have whatever ROM you are going to flash on your External SD card and know where it is. If you have the Superuser.zip on your internal, then move it off.
Boot into stock recovery (blue) and scroll down to Reinstall Packages. Hit it and let it cycle through. It will come back to stock recovery (blue) . Scroll down and hit it again. It will cycle again but this time it will go from blue to green (CWR) . Scroll down to Install from SD and find your ROM you wanted to flash and hit it. Follow whatever ROM's OP.
If for some reason my links aren't working, go to Noob guide stickied on Q&A and download Option B and follow same directions as above.

Stuck in Recovery

Any help would be appreciated at this point :/
Phone had been rooted, installed TWRP, downloaded the ROM I wanted and put it on external SD card... good so far?
Rebooted into recovery, made sure ROM and gapps were in the correct folder, wiped everything accordingly...The *contents* in the folder in which the ROM and gapps were placed were deleted. The folder its self was not, nor were any other folders or their contents in the mother folder.
Any clues? Now I'm sitting here stuck in either recovery or download mode whichever I so choose and the computer cannot identify the phone for me to transfer files over.
Uh......

Odin back to stock ROM.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337
You could uninstall and reinstall the USB drivers and use a USB port that directly connects to the motherboard (back of the PC) and try flashing stock again via Odin. Or, head down to Walmart and grab a micro sd card to place your rom, gapps, backups, etc on. I highly...HIGHLY recommend using a micro sd card if you plan on living the rooted life
How about taking out the external sd card, plug into computer and transfer rom and gapps onto card, put card back into phone and then reboot back into recovery.

This is your best bet. Otherwise you could adb push the ROM and gapps to your sd. But if you're not set up for adb, that's a lot of work.

Thanks guys for all the information. I have been having issues with installing the drivers correctly (Win8) but Kies seems to work well for the most part. I decided to open Kies and do the emergency restoration and it's back to normal now.
Question: If one were to restore it via Kies, could another model number be searched for and installed? ie the i9500 or i9505 firmware? Just a thought.
Anyway, thanks again... oh and I do have a micro sd card. I came from the Skyrocket and flashed probably half a million times lol. This is what threw me for a loop, deleting the ROM from inside the folder but not the folder, nor anything else on the sd card.

I always do this. It will save you time to make sure you keep a hard copy of your main roms on your PC. And have a way to transfer them to your mini sd (old phone, usb device, or mini to full size adapter. As most PC's have a full size slot. This method has saved me countless hrs.. Flashed about 15 roms on my new S4 and haven't even downloaded Oden.. But I've had to use this method twice. Works great.

Every Rom goes Status 7. Can only boot to recovery

I have an S4, Bell. I had installed CM11 via their application that you download, was pretty slick.
But then I wanted to try and unlock my phone, but don't get the service menu out of the dialer, so was trying to flash a vanilla rom.
It said status 7 abort. I thought no problem and went to just use the restore I had created and saved to the SD card. But it couldn't find the sd card, and when I put it in my computer it says it is corrupt and can not be read.
So I got a different sd card and put CM11 on it, status 7, so I put a nightly on, status 7. Tried the vanilla again, status 7. Tried the Pac rom, status 7. Tried the Chaos rom, status 7.
Downloaded philz recovery 6.15.4, and man that is a slick recovery, but again everything was status 7.
If I leave the phone to just reboot, it just goes into recovery.
Any ideas on how to fix? Seems like an odd issue to be having.
EDIT
Trying to install TWRP zip I get status 7 too.
EDIT 2
Ok I made a backup from another s4 and got it back working. But still can not flash anything without status 7, and can not get TWRP to install, even from the goo app, it says sytem error or something.
I really just want to be able to get into the service menu so I can unlock this phone.
Should I put this somewhere else maybe?

No, you are OK here just no one with a solution yet. I am at work and only scanned your post. Are you in a position to reformat your internal card. You said ext is now ok?
Can you Odin back to stock--never used Odin so not much help there
What recovery is working for you--Philz
After you flash a rom did you flash your carriers kernel?
Hopefully someone can get you sorted--:good:
I would definitely try to Odin back to stock. What firmware are you on? It'll make a difference if and what to flash to get back to stock.

Download the firmware for your device from sammobile.com. it's a zip file, use 7-zip to extract a .tar.md5 file. Use that file in Odin, PDA slot. Boot your device into download mode and connect it to your pc with Odin running. Odin should detect your device. Hit start

That site is down for updating. I tried looking on samsung-updates.com but there are a lot of different ones, and none of them look to be Canada.
Odin doesn't find the phone in download mode, although my computer does find the phone. Odin finds the phone if I boot it normally though.

And how come I can't unlock the phone from a custom rom?

I also just ordered 2days ago, any chance chamge to 3 foot power socket?
Hi,
The device is rooted by default.
Still waiting for custom rom. Seems it will take a time.
Can anyone please provide me with a backup of a stock recovery image to cs918 plus? I have replaced the original one with TWRP and now I cannot update the device with new firmware because I cannot find the stock recovery anywhere.
You can easy make a backup copy of stock recovery with Flashify app then put it into the internet and give me a link so I can download it and flash it into my CS918 plus.
Thanks in advance guys!
Please help
I can't upgrade my firmware either cuz I can't even figure out how to get into recovery, I'll get you a copy of stock recovery when I am home tomorrow.

To flash a new firmware use that instruction:
To get a new firmware type in google: "csrk3288p 20150609", enter the link location and download the file from the web site.
(Unfortunately I cannot put the exact link because I am a new user)
Then put the unpacked downloaded file into the main directory of your external sd card (/mnt/external_sd/) and change the file name from t031_8723bs_CSQ_splaire_20150609.img on update.img.
Then turn on the device but first hold down the button at the bottom of device and keep holding it until you willl get into recovery or install the "Reboot recovery" app.
Then you can choose "data/factory reset" but you don't have to - be careful that will erase all your apps and data installed but will not erase your external sd card.
Then choose "update rkimage from external storage" to flash new firmware.
PS. To navigate in recovery I'm using external keyboard connected to one of USB ports.
If you will have any troubles just ask.
I would be grateful for the stock recovery image for CS918 PLUS device.
Does anyone know if there even is a Source drop for this device ? What methods are used to flash a new rom/firmware ?
I don't have the device but can look at the code.

I don't have the firmware of cs918 plus, but I know how to flash the firmware. I think the procedure is same with cs918 and all rockchip based android tv box.
Using the RKBatch Tool to flash the firmware.
1. Connect to your computer with micro usb cable when device is off
2. Hold reset and power on
3. If one of connected device turn green, browse to the firmware (*.img)
4. Press "Restore" button and wait. Remember "Restore" button, not "Upgrade"

Can't you pull the recovery from the firmware update IMG? I figured out how to update firmware from SD card but used a app called reboot to get into recovery because there's no button on the bottom of my device. That firmware from 0609 called splaire is horrible as is the 2nd newest firmware. I with I had never updated mine it was better before...
I just spent an hour trying to get the recovery for u using flashify, it says it backed it up to SD card but its nowhere to be found on it, it says it backed up to dropbox but the folder it created on Dropbox is empty... Any other way to backup the recovery for u?

[Guide] Installing Dr. Ketan's S7 MM T-Mobile ROM on the VZW Note 4

I take no credit for the files, I just tried a few different combinations until I was able to get this installed and working properly. I'm not responsible for any issues or problems you may encounter.
The original thread can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/n910g-dr-ketan-custom-rom-t2928568
I'm currently on the N910VOYU1ANI1 bootloader.
Go to THIS link and click on ROMs, then click on N910G and download the N910G MM file.
Go to THIS link and download the H-Vitamin N910F file.
Go to THIS link and download the Louforgiveno's_N910V_DataFix_For_Dr.Ketan's_MM_3.zip file.
Go to THIS link and download the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip file.
Place the above files on your external SD card.
Boot into recovery and wipe everything except the external SD card.
Install all 4 files in the order listed above, then wipe cache/dalvik and reboot.
If recovery asks to install SU press "Do Not Install".
It may take a bit for it to boot up the first time (5-8 minutes) but just be patient. Note: If your phone isn't vibrating while it's on the Samsung logo things will be fine.
Once it boots up data will go on and off for about a minute or so and then should be always on. A quick reboot leaves data on but a normal reboot results in data turning on and off for about a minute.
Brightness control doesn't work but you can use any brightness control app and it will work fine. (I'm using Lux Brightness Control)
Please leave a reply if it installs successfully for you.
