I would take that with a grain of salt since the retail version hasn't been released yet.
Funny fact: HOX uses samsung's image sensor (iirc, it's the same one used in GS2 and GS3 uses something else)

The ONE X is the winner hands down! Can I please have a phone with the design, camera and screen of the ONE X and the rest of the specs from the GS3?

The HOX furhermore has an dedicated imagechip, does the SGS3 come with this? Is that something "official" yet?
In due time we will see. But I THINK the HOX will be hard to beat in this area atleast

The One X is marketed as having the best camera hardware. The SGS3 is marketed as an all around device.
If u want good photos, go One X. For everything else SGS3

They both do but there is literally zero information about the sensor being used in the s3. I think someone already matched up the model number for the S2 camera sensor to the HOX

I'm not sure! But google gave me this:
HTC’s ImageChip is responsible for most of the things that would traditionally be done on the SoC ISP. 3A (Autofocus, Auto white balance, and Autoexposure), lens correction (geometric and chromatic correction), noise reduction, best shot selection, continuous auto focus, controlling gains on the CMOS sensor, LED flash level decision, region of interest identification (augmented with face detection) and so on. This is all stuff you can verify yourself by taking apart some of the ISP related files - curiously enough internally ImageChip is actually referred to as “rawchip.” This is also the hardware responsible for enabling HTC’s extremely fast image continuous capture and frame grabbing during video capture (HTC Video Pic). It’s somewhat analogous to what Google and TI did with the OMAP4460 on the Galaxy Nexus, except discrete and with a much more ambitious focus.

There's something wrong with those galaxy siii pics. There's way too much noise around any picture of a light. My sii takes better pictures than that. It almost looks like what pictures look like when you still have the protective plastic over the lens!

True..The photos looks worse than SGS2. Also EXIF data missing.

HOX has some very good optics. Nobody will argue about that. We know how HOX images look. That's not the point of discussion here. The photos are not 8MP resolution and don't have any metadata.
Compare this to the link I mentioned earlier, do they look like taken with the same device?

So you disagree with what you said in your 'comprehensive comparison'? If it's so comprehensive, you should include reviews from more than one source, instead of the most critical one you can find

Well every day I feel better about having choose the One as my next phone

I find these camera reviews to be so subjective, I've seen the GS4 video on other sites and it looks better than the HTC One. Also the GS4 image stabilization was never that bad, maybe they have it turned off or something and have weird settings. You could tell they were moving the GS4 faster than the HTC One as well...

What I have noticed however is cameras are rather subjective, there is no "best" camera.

This was a side by side comparison.
They were moved at the exact same time at the exact same speed.
The lack of image stabilization ability the Galaxy S 4 portrayed in this video is what made it appear faster :beer:

Didn't Samsung say it had Image Stabilization? I thought I've seen this in several reports too, what's weird is they've said on that site that the GS4 has better low light performance and yet many other sites say otherwise.
I think it's all rather subjective atm to how people set up the settings, I mean if they were both on default it could explain why as my 808 by default has image stabilization off and produces horrible low light pictures and is only 5MP......
It's no good have stuff on default settings, you need to set the camera up to the situation and produce the best pictures the phone allows you.
I'm not buying either of these phones, I'm more inclined to go the HTC One cause it looks nicer, that said I'm not impressed by either of them.

Yeah but the quality of that looks strange. My S III and Note II both had much better quality than that so I will not give the victory to the One just based on that When I get mine in my hands I will decide myself

The pictures are poor. You're gonna have some good, some bad, but overall the camera is poor. Especially when zooming at all.
The camera app itself is snappy and it'll focus fast, but this ultra pixel with 4mp just isn't gonna get it. There is 2 year old technology cranking out better, more consistent pictures.

Ive seen a couple short hands on reviews that say the M8 pics are no better than the M7. The only thing the M8 has going for it in the camera department is speed and that new refocusing feature....which one reviewer said doesnt really work that well. Hmmm

Yeah, um, those Flickr photos look more than acceptable for me. I don't need the best camera if I'm getting the best screen, audio quality, and experience that the M8 will surely offer as the M7 did. The camera is literally secondary (or, well, further than that) than all of those areas and, even then, it's not really bad at all.

In all seriousness, when it comes down to cutting costs on a smartphone design, camera would be the first thing on my list too. Would you rather it be made of cheap plastic, not have front facing speakers or have a smaller battery?
I'd take superior hardware/build over a great camera any day. I know we want it all, but it seems like we just can't have it all. At least not til the M9.

IMAG0065 that night time pic...looks really really really bad. but for the most part its not bad. Matter of fact all the night time ones are really bad towards the end .

In complete and utter seriousness guys (not being a fanboy either) I was MORE than pleased with the camera on the M7. That was my primary concern that I debated over for months before getting the M7 - giving up my iPhone 5 which took awesome pics was a difficult choice. Hands down, I'm more than excited to get back to Android (had to go back to my iPhone 5 due to selling my M7). The true wide angle 16:9 is so awesome and the pics were great. Overall, I felt like I was able to regularly capture more accurate color representations with the M7. Low light was pretty great too.
I will say, there were a few times where I was left wishing I could crop to a larger size and retain image quality. However, for me personally, it wasn't a big enough issue for me to ditch the phone, as I don't need to do that often enough. If you're someone who is perpetually cropping, this probably isn't going to work for you.
Also, I used to have an album of pics I took on my phone to show people when they'd play with it. I received soooo many compliments on the pics I took and more people saying "This phone has such an amazing camera" never knowing it was only 1/2 the MP's as their phones.
I understand and agree with the major drawbacks of it, however, as an overall quick shooter to the ability to take your time and change settings to get an optimal pic, it blew me away quite a few times. That's more than I could ever say about my iPhone.
Addition: there was a thread I saw with M7 vs. M8 photos and the colors looked quite a bit better and more crisp on the M8. I'm excited to see what I can do with it.

although the MP is disappointing, the strengths of the phone outweigh a blunder such as that I think. It's not like the camera is crap, it's just average for current times. We just had higher expectations as we should have especially compared to last year's. I would say the camera is "adequate"

The Best Phone of the Year...killed by a poor camera

I was really excited to see the spec for the M8.
The spec turned out pretty decent, but the camera.....unbelievable. How can a smart phone be shipped with a poor camera....a flagship smartphone that is.
The Galaxy S5 and the Z2 among others will absolutely kill this phone in sales.
The build of the M8 is beautiful though.....such a huge mistake with this poor choice of camera for the 2nd year running,

if you dont have the phone you shouldnt post in here. if you have it and face any problem with the camera you are welcomed. do you think HTC is dumb to create such thing? the desire have 13mp camera if HTC believes that 13MP of desire is better for the one they wouldnt hesitate to apply it to the HTC one too! but this phone with this poor camera you claim won many prices for the best phone of 2013 and now its featured in DUAL camera. this thread should be closed and users who are creating useless threads should be BANNED!!

Over the past 4 years or so, I have came to very heavily rely on my smartphone camera, i think almost everyone has. Yeah sure I have a great Compact digital camera and also a great DSLR .
But i always have my smartphone with me. The other cameras only get an outing about twice a year!

The camera in m8 does not have optical image stabilization like the m7.
No OIS equals blurry pics unless you walk around with a tripod.
For the moment I am happy with my m7.

Z5 Compact a joke?

Why is this Z5 compact such a joke? It almost has the same specs as the z3 compact and the new camera aint all that good. The new sensor might be good but what if you cant make the software work? And I think we should wait for more photo samples to appear before we take final judgement. Most of these early photo samples are using non-final software.

Hate to point out the obvious but every new phone that comes is an incremental improvement over its predecessor. Look at the iPhone, people(fools) queue for hours to be first to get the new model with 10% faster cpu, 10% bigger screen, 10% more pixels on the cmos sensor, and 20% less battery power. How i chuckle when i see iphone 6 owners, like junkies desperately looking for their next power fix! But, i digress.
A jack of all trades is a master of none. It is after all, a phone. It is not meant to be a world class, low light camera. My first camera phone was 0.3megapix. I thought it was pretty damn cool to have a camera at all. People just take it for granted nowadays. You want good low light photos, buy a camera. You know, them things you cant make phone calls on!

I to had Z3C, were active in XDA section for it, and for one i KNOW Z5C has a better camera to start with. Only thing it doesn't have is battery life on KK with Z3C which owned every cell phone with flagship specs.
On Z3C my focus struggled at times, colors were oversaturated and in many occasions picture looked washed out. That is not the case on Z5C BUT there is a lot room for improvement and i think Sony will do it in time. Great potential with the IMX230 hardware.

wouldn't it be a good idea to make a static topic for flaming about a certain device, so we can focus on the good things instead of getting distracted by this kind of topics?

its not flaming its the truth but some just cant handle it.

Yes the camera on the z3c was worse then on the z5c but when you look at the pictures taken with a z5c you will see blurry edges and its almost impossible to make awesome macro shots. So even tho this camera is a bit better it still cant mess with other high ends like note 5 or LG g4 that also uses a sony sensor so thats why i think this z5c is kinda a joke. But if sony doesn't fix all these problems like laggy OS then this will be my last sony phone.

If you really think the performance is as bad as you say you should properly try another vendor! In my experience, they are at least as bad and some a lot worse..
Honestly, I would prefer a smaller Nexus, and might even go for the 5X despite the size.. Nexus device are best in performance (os lag eg), the rest are catching up lately!
You do know that the standard resolution in the app is set to 8M, right?.. I did read its better at that res, but you should maybe try and change it, it goes up to 23 you know..

Yup, because before it was out i judged on sample photo's and now that i own 1 i can confirm it that everything is knew before buying 1 was true. Even in clear daylight most photo's always seem to have a bit of blur on the right side. And batterylife is a bit wonky.

Sorry to hear that. I had the same problem (except on the left edge instead), returned for a replacement and the second one is much better. It only blurs out the very far corners and only rarely, most pictures are fine. Have you still time for an exchange?
My battery life experience is pretty decent.

No but i can always send it back to the repair center because they sold me a faulty unit but i need to make more photo's to give it a final judgement tho. Which color phone you got and what rev number is on the box if i may ask?

Yellow. 1298-3810 Rev 1. My first one which had the blur was also the exact same though so I'm not sure whether that number means all that much.

Yea guess the color has nothing to do with is then because lots of white one's have the most problems it seems.
