Does anyone know if i can make/buy a Cardboard-like vr thing for the note 4? I believe that the gear vr will not be released anytime soon.
I've got a Google cardboard from when I had a Samsung galaxy s5 but the note 4 is too big to fit properly...
So if you buy or make one make sure it's bigger than the generic one so the note 4 will fit.

Better late than never
Note 4 doesn't fit well in Google Cardboard but is possible to use , just be sure to give it few more rubbers to not loose your Note4.
There's also available unofficial XL version, but it's much expensive, there's a lot similar devices like : SmartBox3D, Durovis Dive, Stooksy
Use VR player for dedicated VR SBS movies, but remove magnets before this. Effects are stunning.

Sorry, are you referring to a consumer edition of the Gear VR? Because the Gear VR Innovator Edition has already been released, it's been on sale since Dec. 8th for $200... Apparently it is completely possible to use any Google Cardboard VR apps with it as well, you just need to block the Oculus Home app from launching. There's a thread about it somewhere on this site, can't remember where but just search.

I have this one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251766752348
fits the note 4 perfectly, without any cases.
One problem is that, it doesn't have any magnetic switch. I sometimes use a piece of neodymium magnet salvaged from a hard drive as a substitute.
In case you were still curious about this Google has made a new version of their cardboard that will support the larger phones. I use a version of the original that I modified the dimensions on to fit my Note 2 and it works great with my Note 4. I just found out though that the magnetic sensor is in a different spot.
On the original cardboard layout the magnet is closer to the top (upper right of the phone when laid top side to the left) and on the Note 2 it worked fine. It didn't work with the Note 4. I moved the magnet across the top of the phone and it triggers right in the middle in line with the camera. I moved the magnet in my cardboard to rest in the middle and it works perfectly.

I've been waiting for reviews for this pen for a while. I don't see any third parties selling it yet either... I found one review, but it was in Japanese (which I can read) and wasn't very helpful in terms of the purpose I would be using it for. Particularly, the artwork...
I'm curious, is it really any different than the s-pen or is it just about the form factor?

I'm curious about it too. I currently have a Samsung ET-S200EBEGSTD S-Pen with eraser which works and feels great. Will the Bamboo Stylus Feel actually feel better than the Samsung branded S-Pens? I'll wait for those reviews as well.
Looking thru and it does looks good. Any tried?

I confirmed with Wacom, it has no eraser. Made me lose all interest.
I ordered 2 on the 7th. I got them yesterday. My wife is an artist and the Samsung stylus was to thin. She really likes the feel of it. Its really light though, and it feels like rough ceramic. I cant say that it writes better than the stock one. But it is easier to use. All they had was the white version that day. I do wonder if the $80 black carbon fiber pen would have been better. It has double the weight.
I need to use it a bit more before I can review it. Mainly because I put an anti-reflective screen protector on my tablet the day before.
Best Buy now has Bamboo Stylus
Titles says it all!
Ok, I was using it this morning after doing the OTA update. I didnt like it at all. I thought it might have been this matte screen protector. Just to double check, I grabbed my wifes Bamboo stylus and used it. It worked great! Mine was slow and didnt work half the time, but hers works better than the Samsung stylus. Now I have to figure out how to return mine. Its defective.
Using my wifes, there is something I didnt like about it. The button sits flush with the body and it feels the same. So its hard to find. I use it a lot because I have it set to erase.

Link? I looked and couldn't find it... I found several Bamboo Stylus, but none for the Note 10.1. I do like the look of the carbon stylus on the Wacom Website.
This is where I got mine. Directly from the Wacom store.

Thanks for the link. I just ordered one. (White). I was gonna get the samsung based version, but this thickness might be perfect for. I hate how expensive they are. I wish they were half this price and then i could buy multiple pens.

Is setting the button to erase only for the Wacom stylus or can the stock s-pen do it as well? Care to share how? Thanks

Just to share, any Wacom Penabled (Tablet PC) stylus will work with the Note series. I have three from my Tablet PC days and they all work with my Note 10.1 and Note II. Search in Google or Amazon and you can find a large range of styles and prices.

The app you use has to have the option. The app I use most is Lecture Notes.
[Settings/handling/one time eraser] sets it to erase once after each time the button is pressed. Very handy.
I have noticed that the built in apps like SNote and Kno lack a useful setting menu. It would be nice if they gave us more options.

Work? Yes. Work well? Maybe. I have one from a slate, and it's about 1/4" off when writing. Too annoying to be useful. I'm not saying yours don't work well, I'm saying that not all penabled stylus will work well.
I have a bamboo create tablet and the pen for that thing does not work on either my Samsung 7 Series or my Note 10.1. The S7S pen do work on the Note 10.1 and visa versa tho. The eraser work as well; haven't tried the eraser on Sketchbook Pro tho.
I know it isn't compatible with my Note 3 due to size constraints, but I ordered one anyway - I think I have an S4 laying around somewhere. I'm wondering who has used it with their Note 3 and what their experience was.

I'm wondering should i just buy one for my note 3 or make a bigger one,
The problem with bigger one is i don't know if the lens position and/or focal length need to be changed.

I'm kind of interested in this for my Note 3 too. Here's one for $8.99 if you want to try it: http://www.focalprice.com/MX0124X/G...ium=EM&utm_campaign=DM_1432ZT_3Dglass_MX0124X
My "unofficial" cardboard unit arrived today. I had to modify the front to accommodate the Note 3's extra width. It works ok, but the volume controls are constantly getting (accidentally) pushed when you hold your thumbs anywhere near where the phone is. Same can be said about the power button on the top.
The camera is completely covered by the cardboard itself, because the oval-shaped hole assumes a shorter phone.
I'm running Alliance Rom and the PhotoSphere app doesn't work (it FC's). Other than that, the only other comment I can make is that the phone gets pretty warm while it's running the VR stuff. Takes quite a bit of power, because the battery drops quickly too.
All in all, it is a fun little toy. I look forward to other applications being created. OBTW, a lot of the compatible apps from the play store, require a Bluetooth controller. to function. Lucily I have a Bluetooth mini keyboard that has a d-pad style controller. This combination works ok.
I think I will wait to try VR when I can Full Dive... the current versions just make me motion sick.
Posted here because I am interested in how it turns out for you guys.

Its weird that it doesn't fit.
Cause currently there's that (worst to best) that Android VR Headset dubbed "Gameface", followed by Samsung's attempts with Gear VR, then there's SONY's Project Morpheus and finally the "king" Oculus Rift.
Its weird because out of all those millions (billions?) of dollars spent in development, the Oculus Rift comes out on top... and that VR uses the NOTE 3's display.
Literally. They've cut out the N3's screen, and slapped it on goggles with a pair of lens.
I want to try out Cardboard but I'm worried the initial bad experience might deter me from VR experience for good (remember VirtualBoy?). I might hold out for O/R's consumer product.
We'll see in the future when it gets mainstream; I'd expect it to ship for ~$399 and use a SAMOLED+ screen of roughly 6inch size and 4K resolution.
(Following the OR development, they're converging towards the 6in size and want to get as high resolution as possible. 4K is possible, and will be cheap in the near future. 4K allows easier development for applications too. OLED is best, but too costly at the moment. SAMOLED+ panels seems to be the better in terms of refresh rates and battery life than IPS, despite costing a little more than IPS. IPS has better brightness too, but that's moot. Oculus Rift has always aimed at quality and affordability so I couldn't expect it cheaper than $249 and wouldn't expect it higher than $500. So $399 seems like a "sweet spot" for mass manufacturing. Unless Facebook ruins it).

So from what I understand, you can make it all work with relative ease. I may order this. I use an otterbox case, which adds to the bulk. Hopefully I don't have to buy a smaller phone just to enjoy VR.

i ordered one of the large ones from unofficialcardboard. com yesterday. ill update once i receive it.
i purchased one of the VR kits from dodocase.com and i did fit my Note 3 in it but it produces blury, out of focus and ghosting images. i modded my case so that my power and volume buttons wouldn't be pressed during use by cutting slots on the flap for them. once i tried the VR headset with my brother's S5 i saw the difference... and it was a big difference! everything was perfectly focused and im hoping this bigger VR headset will provide the same with the Note 3
ordered one

So
I ordered the larger one for my note 3 which I keep in an otterbox I'll update with initial impressions
I ordered a DodoCase version and it arrived today. I wasn't sure how it would work with my Note 3, but it works pretty well. The screen is almost exactly the size of the opening and so gives more viewing screen than smaller phones would.
I made three minor modifications to it. One was a cutout on the top to allow me to access the power button. Another, similar cutout (this time I only cut three sides and secured it loosely with tape) to relieve the pressure on the volume button and allow me to change the volume. The third was a minor enlargement of the camera hole to allow the camera lens full access. All three cuts are about 1/4 inch deep and the width of the needed buttons/camera, very minor, and very effective.
I haven't had a LOT of time to play with it yet, but it works very well. I look forward to comparing it to my wife's S5 when she gets home.
Oh, I had some double sided velcro around and found that strip of that will hold it to my head quite well too. So far I haven't decided how to attach the velcro, but it works just wrapped around the cardboard and my head.
All things considered, I am very pleased with the way it works with my Note 3!
I decided I didn't want to use my Note 3 for this as it wasn't on the 'official' supported list. I picked up a Moto X used in nice shape and a very good price just to try this out. Got the cardboard kit today and tried it out. Very impressive but the phone does get quite warm in just a few minutes. Androsens was saying it was at 101 degrees F and battery was at 104 degrees F which is higher by far than it normally gets. The warmth was quite noticeable when I pulled the phone back out of the VR kit. I think battery use runs fairly high with this too. Overall I don't think I'd want to run it for long periods and definitely not with my Note 3 (although it might have enough more horsepower that it wouldn't warm up ? )
I saw one of the choices in the cardboard app is Youtube. Does anyone know if the youtubes showing in that are done special for the 3D or are they just normal Youtubes? I saw one that had been on CNN news this morning of a turtle chasing an RC car. It had some dimension to it but you couldn't pan around in that like you can with the other built in apps so I tend to think it's just a normal Youtube.
I just tried the carboard VR kit now with the Samsung Galaxy S3 and it sort of works except the magnet doesn't work to select items so you have to open the box and tap them to select. This phone also got very warm with just a few minutes use. My phones normally run in the low 80's F but running this they are hitting 99-104 degrees F. Be careful not to fry your phones ! It must max out the CPU speed and voltage to run the 3D stuff. Impressive to get a taste of VR but I'm not sure a most phones could take the heat for running long term. Also the Galaxy S3 doesn't play the Windy Day as this is specific for Motorola and the Moto X.
Can't we just somehow disable all hardware buttons on the Note 3? Disable volume keys, disable power button?
I bought a DodoCase, the phone fits JUST JUST right, but of course all the buttons are pressed, lol. I have a rooted phone running custom roms along with xposed... I'm sure there is a setting somewhere to disable them?
hello,
Someone could he give me a map unofficial model (largest to Note 3) Please?
I bought the normal model but it's too galley (I recovered the lenses above)
Unofficial Cardboard large *update*
So I got the Unofficial cardboard large for my Note 3.
The phone fits perfectly into the unit.
As someone mentioned before, the HW buttons do get pressed sometimes but its possible to make cutouts to prevent this/get access to the buttons.
Don't know if its due to the lack of lens adjustment in the cardboard design, but individual pixels are a lot more visible then I have expected, given the 1080p Note 3 display.
All in all I think it was money well spent. Got a nice preview of what this VR hype is all about

I bought the large Google cardboard from eBay for $16.99 with the nfc tag (I would get the one without the tag though). My 7 year old son loves it. I think it's pretty cool as well but most of the apps have drift issue (or its the phone). I also use a PS3 controller and it seems that the controller isn't set up for most of the apps... The joystick works but the buttons don't.
I have only had it for 4 days and I will continue playing with it. I can keep posting with my experiences and app opinions if you want. Ank any questions about it and I will answer them to the best of my knowledge.
Obviously for cardboard I can't expect some amazing VR but, most of the youtube videos show users pretty immersed in it. How is the immersion? ie: roller coaster effect?
Just a question for people with this with a handset already, have you had a chance to play with google cardboard using the s6? I'm curious how the higher PPI performs!

Got my (regular) S6 yesterday and found time to put in my Cardboard this morning. The experience is a little better than expected, but still not earth shattering.
I had a OnePlus One (5.5 inch FHD) before and that worked okay. You could definately see the space between the pixels. I woulnd't say it it was like looking through a screendoor, but you could certainly see the grid.
With the S6 it's certainly improved a lot, but you do still see a grid. It's far less noticable though and it's a lot easier to get that feeling of immersion. You will still see you're looking at a screen though, the higher PPI just makes you forget about it sooner.
What I noticed with the S6 and didn't really notice with the OnePlus One is that there is a tiny, tiny delay between moving your head and the screen actually moving. I don't know why that is. I think it's because the resolution is now less of an issue, you notice other things like this sooner, but I am unable to confirm that in any way. I'm just telling you what I saw.
All in all the experience of Cardboard is certainly better with the higher PPI display, but if you come from a regular FHD display I don't think the difference is really that big.
I don't know if the Edge offers any advantages. I'm inclined to think it'll impact the experience in a negative way.
Edit: if you want me to test something, please let me know.
I'm having issues with the location of the magnet button for the s6, the button being on the left or right side doesn't work for me, it has to be on the top or bottom of the cardboard if that makes sense.

I originally thought the magnet button would only work with with a Nexus device so I threw it out... so unfortunately I'm unable to comment on this, haha. I'm always tapping the screen through the underside of cardboard.
A friend of mine recently got a more expensive sort of Cardboard with better lenses and a headmount. I'm considering to get it. It was like 50 bucks or something, a lot cheaper than the Gear VR and with the S6 I think it'll be a really fun experiene. I'm still doubting as I hope Project Morpheus will soon get a releasedate. Would love to play Project Cars with that.

I have no issues with my magnetic button. Works like charm on the S6 and is located properly for me.
I have a dodocase and it is a huge improvement over my 2013 motox. The only downside I have found is the home button sits right on the cardboard edge when closed and so sometimes it hits it when the case flexes a bit. I have a Colorcross coming tomorrow which has larger fov lenses and headstraps so I am hoping for a better experience. I did notice the VR cinemas aren't drifting with the s6 like they did with my motox.

EXACTLY the same thing here. I was so nervous it didn't work. Then I just flicked it as I wanted to... Actually I don't know what I wanted to do with that.
Then it worked... It was just like: "Ohh, come on!"
Ot really is a great thing when using the cardboard app. The only thing I hate is when my phone slips when I don't secure it. Other than that it's really great.

Hey, Not sure if there's been any talk on this subject. But, on the new Oculus Gear VR you can modify the case to work with the note 4.
There are 2 tiny screws next to the usb port on the Gear VR. Unscrew them, then pull out the plug gently. It pulls out enough to clip right in the bottom of the Note 4. Then you can rest it snuggly in there and put on the face plate over the back. I just used some tape to hold the front on. Works really good.
The Note 4 automatically updates the software on Oculus and then you are off to the races for only $99 vs $200+ they want for the other one (if you can find them at that price).
Anyway, if this has been discovered earlier, sweet. If not, and you want to give VR a try for hundred bucks, go for it. The minecraft is insanely fun!
I updated my phone to the s7 edge and decided to keep the note 4 for a backup. But now have two VR headsets. This mod is completely reversible with zero damage to either the phone or headset.
You forgot to mention which newer version of Gear VR.... there are a couple versions of it.

Just bought the Note 10+ which kind of disappoints me when I see the screen compared to my brilliant note 4 but that's another story.
I've tried a number of wallet cases but almost all the ones I see are with magnetic closure and that affects the S-Pen writing on the edge even with the tag stretched out as far as it goes.
Just wondering if anyone has found a case which doesn't use the magnetic closure?
I don't understand why manufacturers put magnets anywhere near the note series cases - Even Snakehive leather cases seem to do that and they tell me they don't get to test the devices when they make the products . Duh! then they tell me that they only get a few complaints and that is probably because in reality there are quite a few note owners that simply don't use the S-Pen.
I've always had wallet cases, prefer them and the one for my Note 4 was great (manna by Leinke), this had a perfect interference clasp which has never failed in all the years I've used it but sadly they didn't make one for the Note 10 / 10+ .
If anyone managed to find something that works I'd love to know especially one available in the UK.
Hi, I was looking for the best flip case with a magnetic closure for a long time and finally I found it. The only functional and best ..
