Sudden Death Syndrome? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This morning I had my note 4 turn off and freeze whenever trying to get past the boot screen, this was happening for 3 hours and finally it turned itself on fully without pressing any buttons after leaving it alone for another hour.
Why would it do this and will it be a problem in the long term?
I have the SM-N910U variant and have CF-AUTO-ROOTED it

I've wiped cache and davlik cache but don't want to full wipe at the moment as I'm out of town and the only internet I have is my data plan. The problem hasn't happened again yet and I hope it doesn't.

Cache and dalvik could possibly fix your problem, but a full wipe will have a better chance at fixing "bootloop'" like issues. Try it when you get home!

Odd thing happened

Just got this phone like two or three days ago. Today when I pulled my phone out to use it it was dead, wouldn't turn on or anything. Pulled battery and then it powered up. Got the low battery alert. So here's my question on the photo i posted, what could of made the battery drop like that?
Sent from my at&t SGS2
whats the other screen like? what i mean screen on time, and how long awake its been on? cause if those two are on all the time that could make the battery drain...
try charging it to the fullest and calibrate it using a calibration app and see how that goes....
sorry if i cant suggest anything else...charge it to the max and calibrate it and see how you do after a few cycles

Screen was on not even two hours. Awake time was about the same. It was just odd that it dropped off like that. Last night I flashed the latest villain rom and its been ok but really haven't used it and I'm at 63% with 58 minutes screen on. I also did the calibrate battery, maybe I'll go in and clear battery stats next?

Sounds good. I'll try that and see what happens. Thanks for the tips. Just wipe everything or do factory restore?

I've seen this trouble on another forum.
People fixed it by introduce a piece of paper behind the battery.
I suggest you to clean battery contacts.

Never heard of this.
Since I flashed villain 2.5 its been better, hasn't done it since.(crossfingers)
Hmm, the link posted says about dolphin browser. Before I flashed 2.5 I used to get random restarts, haven't had any since the new flash that I know of. Maybe I'll try a different browser also.

[Q] N9005XXUFNF4 - why is my battery drain is worse?

This phone is becoming a joke, it seems that with every update Google or Samsung are crippling this phone.
N9005XXUFNF4 was supposed to improve battery life on the Note 3, so why is my battery drain worse?
I bought the Note 3 to do away with netbooks and tablets, but now I am being forced to use them again.
When I use the internet, browsing on the Note 3 itself, my battery can lose 50% in under 30 minutes. I am then forced to switch off data out of fear that the phone will not last the day.
However, when I tether a notebook or a tablet to the Note 3, it will give me about 8 hours of internet usage before it needs charging.
So what is the point of the Note 3 now? It is quickly becoming just an expensive modem.
Are u using fully stock ? Root it, delete bloat apps and install a custom kernel. I just did these and hardcore debloated now I'm getting perfect battery/performance.
And this is why I am happily sticking to NB7 for the forseeable future.
-6%, 1.30h screen-on time, wifi on, tapatalk, firefox and gmail.... (at -60% brightness though(lux).) No root, full stock.
If it isn't broken, don't fix it.
Tried a full factory reset yet?

it is all because you need to do a full wipe my friend.
I guess after update, you haven't do a full wipe. NF4 comes with new bootloader, and though a same KK, but different base version from NE or any older one. A full wipe from stock recovery will make it better.
But don't forget, backup your internal sd card first, as any factory reset from stock recovery will do a full wiping on your internal SD. All will be gone. ...
Stock firmware has never given me that type of worst battery usage. especially in 30 minutes ? wow....
FYI, I always like to do a clean install, especially jump up firmware.

Thanks,
A full wipe and reinstall everytime this phone updates will drive me crazy.
You would think that Samsung would warn users about this.

You'd think Samsung would come up with an app+data backup software.

yeah... few first try you will feel crazy.. after that you will get use to it already.
It will take me at most 1 hour to resetup everything. But I will be able to enjoy the upgrade to the fullest, without any non sense things.
to the thread starter, is is already solved according to the posters?
this is also my new problem when I update. before update, for one day, I charge to the maximum of 4 hours (not continuosly) full battery. today, my percentage of charging is 12 hours. this is crazy. I think I might root my phone now in order to solve this problem.
Wow, on 4.3rom, i saw 10 hours screen time playing hd movies, and 7 hours screen time with 2 days.

Galaxy s4 unexplained battery drain

My wife is using a unrooted gs4 and for about a month her battery has been going from 100% battery to almost dead in a matter of hours even on airplane mode and with mobile data turned off what could be the problem?

Have you thought about buying a new battery?
I bought her one and it does it with both batteries. Could it be updated related?

It could be and it might need to be wiped. I've had issues before where an app would keep the phone awake and I had to wipe my phone in order for the battery issue to be resolved. I don't know if you want to take that route. If you do be sure you back up any important information and pictures.
Wiped as in factory reset?

This is a late response, but I'm dealing with this problem. Was the problem app obvious or was it nearly impossible to detect what it was?

Battery life worse after factory reset

I had to factory reset my phone after an issue, beforehand I was amazed at how good the battery life was, and after it is just bad...
I can't see anything significant taking up the battery usage, it's just worse
Any ideas on what can have caused this, or how to check myself?
Thanks
Yes i have same issue now. I get S7 edge 4 days ago, yesterday rooted and flashed twrp (for this i had to make factory reset) and after that my battery life is very bad too.. before that it was very good. Really weird, hope someone can help Regards.

More than 4h of SOT aren't possible anymore... :crying:
R u guys giving a could days after reset to let battery life settle down?maybe try clearing the cache a few times before factory resetting in recovery mode
Is it likely to get better again then? I reset mine on Saturday...
I made dalvik and cache wipe yesterday night , let see how will be battery after few cycles.. then maybe i will go for custom rom

Can you do that without root? If so, how please?
If you have recently wiped then please allow antiquity time for your device to re-learn.
Without going into detail.
Linux is a complex system, that does memory management very efficiently.
When you wipe, you have removed all its information it has retained about applications.
What to stop running, What to allow idle.
Honestly allow a week on normal usagage before you see a increase in battery life again
OK thx, will do
In case it doesn't sort itself out, can non-root users wipe cache?

Perfect, thanks!
And to confirm that I have formatted my S7E several times but I do not see any significant decline in battery life. I get
5+ hours of SOT on an average (Sometimes 6 too!)
14-17 Hours of Total Usage.
I am rooted, but on stock Rom.
Battery still poor but not been a week yet (although Factory reset all my devices regularly and never seen this issue before)..
What I've also noticed is charging appears slower too, and when using my gear vr, I'm noticing a little overheating which didn't happen before.

Battery Life and Heat Issue After August 1st Nougat Patch

After updating to 7.0 August 1st Security Patch, my Moto G5+ (4GB/64GB, USA, Unlocked on Verizon), has experienced heat and extreme battery drain issues. Before the update, my phone usually lasted the entire day, and had only died a couple of times on me. Every day since updating my phone has died after only a few hours of normal usage (light web browsing and Snapchat, no games, streaming, etc). After going from full charge to 0%, I only got 82 minutes of SOT compared to the usual ~180 minutes of SOT.
Has anyone else experienced this issue/have a fix for it?
Yep. Same here and searching around the web we're not alone. Motorola broke something but so far I haven't found a solution. Some folks have had temporary luck draining the battery, charging to 100% using the OEM fast charger and then leaving it on the charger for another hour or two. But this seems to only be temporary - a reboot, or in some cases just charging again, brings the fast drain back again. So far no one has gotten an acceptable answer from Motorola (Surprise!). A couple of folks still under warranty were told to send it in for a refurb replacement. Moto definitely made a mess this time and so far they're not acknowledging it.

Yes I am having the same issues. It seems that the problem is all the services/apps are getting restarted continuously. I haven't tried clearing cache yet, but will try now. To see if that helps.
UPDATE: I tried clearing cache, but the same issues remain.
I had the same issue. A factory reset worked for me.
So strangely, about 10 hours after I did a cache clear, and left phone running everything is back to normal now.
The phone did use a lot of battery and was a bit warm after the update but it might have been because it downloaded the backup from Google. I did a cache clear per acejavelin suggestion anyway. I don't seem to have the problem.
