This phone is becoming a joke, it seems that with every update Google or Samsung are crippling this phone.
N9005XXUFNF4 was supposed to improve battery life on the Note 3, so why is my battery drain worse?
I bought the Note 3 to do away with netbooks and tablets, but now I am being forced to use them again.
When I use the internet, browsing on the Note 3 itself, my battery can lose 50% in under 30 minutes. I am then forced to switch off data out of fear that the phone will not last the day.
However, when I tether a notebook or a tablet to the Note 3, it will give me about 8 hours of internet usage before it needs charging.
So what is the point of the Note 3 now? It is quickly becoming just an expensive modem.
Are u using fully stock ? Root it, delete bloat apps and install a custom kernel. I just did these and hardcore debloated now I'm getting perfect battery/performance.
And this is why I am happily sticking to NB7 for the forseeable future.
-6%, 1.30h screen-on time, wifi on, tapatalk, firefox and gmail.... (at -60% brightness though(lux).) No root, full stock.
If it isn't broken, don't fix it.
Tried a full factory reset yet?

it is all because you need to do a full wipe my friend.
I guess after update, you haven't do a full wipe. NF4 comes with new bootloader, and though a same KK, but different base version from NE or any older one. A full wipe from stock recovery will make it better.
But don't forget, backup your internal sd card first, as any factory reset from stock recovery will do a full wiping on your internal SD. All will be gone. ...
Stock firmware has never given me that type of worst battery usage. especially in 30 minutes ? wow....
FYI, I always like to do a clean install, especially jump up firmware.

yeah... few first try you will feel crazy.. after that you will get use to it already.
It will take me at most 1 hour to resetup everything. But I will be able to enjoy the upgrade to the fullest, without any non sense things.
to the thread starter, is is already solved according to the posters?
this is also my new problem when I update. before update, for one day, I charge to the maximum of 4 hours (not continuosly) full battery. today, my percentage of charging is 12 hours. this is crazy. I think I might root my phone now in order to solve this problem.
Wow, on 4.3rom, i saw 10 hours screen time playing hd movies, and 7 hours screen time with 2 days.

Ok, so I've had my SGN for little under a month for the first few weeks I had it I was getting great battery life, almost 6 hours screen time full day of battery etc.. Then I rooted it using one click root because I wanted some more access, since then battery life has seemingly been slowly getting worse. I have tried changing back to stock roms and custom roms, I've fully discharged the battery and charged while it is off a number of times but I'm down to 3 hours screen time and can't get a full day out off it anymore.
Is this something to do with the way I rooted, what can I do test and try and get back my battery life, this is the main reason I got this phone..
It's hard to say if it was the first update I installed/rooting or something wrong with the way I'm charging but it's certainly decreased even on a stock ROM without installing anything..
Anybody else encountered this?

I have the same "feeling" with my Note. I have installed System Panel to monitor usage but I can't find anything specific that seems to be sucking the power. But it certainly "feels" like my battery is draining faster than before.
It's probably as the phone gets older, you install more & more Apps. Some of these are probably working in the background sucking your battery.

Even with a clean stock rom, it doesn't seem as good as it was without root or any updates.. Wish I remembered what the phone came loaded with, I'd give that a go..

Try Rocket Rom v17 or latest XXLA1 firmware and your battery life will come back even better than before, just me
Same "feeling" here! I will try LA1 firmware....
So I'm currently sitting on 4.30 hours screen time, 15 hours uptime with 20% battery remaining.
Running la1 firmware and la3 modem, been using stock browser. Taking lots of photos with flash too, so I think this combo has rectified my issues but I know there's more potential as this is roughly the same stats I got on my dhd, although that was underclocked and tweaked to the clappers.
Faith is resetored in my device, hopefully it improves.
Hello All,
Apologies if this is a duplicate or posted at an incorrect location.
I got ICS for my Note two days ago and here's what I've noticed:
Battery usage has increased: The battery seems to run out faster now. For e.g. during night (8 hours) the battery gets reduced by 6%, which was not the case earlier
Performance slightly slower: The phone performace has dropped a notch.
Running apps: The strangest thing which I've noticed is that almost all apps now run in the background, even the ones which I dont use daily. I need to go to Downloads to 'Force Stop' them.
I request you all to share your findings as well.
Thanks,
yeah me too..
On the stock ICS releases what you have observed seems to be the case. Under normal circumstances the advise would be a factory reset but DO NOT! do this as there is a risk of bricking your phone.
Battery life to me is the same maybe slightly better, performance is stupidly better than it was on gb. Having said that I did wipe via mobile odin then in factory reset menu in settings menu when ics booted so I had a totally clean install. But I wouldn't advise that going off the brick bug.

Actually ICS is good at memory usage. those apps that you dont use might be starting with boot, try to disable them.
Also in the development mode in setting u can limit the number of apps that can run in the background.

I have read quite a few about this bug but still quite confused so once and for all, If I was on stock ROM all the way (no rooting done) and updated to stock ICS, would I still risk to brick my phone if I factory reset?
I'm using the German version, rooted to install titanium app and Gemini app to freeze and prevent apps from auto starting. Battery life is excellent, about 1% drain overnight with phone shut down.

after the initial boot with no apps installed at all the battery and the ram consumption seems to be good and by that i mean better multitasking. all apps start almost instantly.. but with having a few apps installed the battery seems to be draining faster than usual and will drain completely by the end of the day with moderate usage.. gb used to give me atleast a day and a half of battery and max two days with the same usage stats.. i'm beginning to wonder if this is how ics was built..!!?
Ok, so I figured that the battery was draining as the phone was not going into 'deep-sleep' mode. I was able to fix that using instructions at the below URL:

KitKat didn't kill battery life. Mine is about the same as it was before KitKat. In about 99.999% of the time an app is to blame. I have a simple but arduous method to find the app that's killing your battery.
I agree the battery has taken a hit. I used to ave about 9hrs of screen on time, now about 6hrs. I also have the chromecast issue. Strange thing is that sometimes the screen doesnt even show up In the battery stats. Sometimes the usage time doesnt change when it shows in battery stats. I am stock, 32gb white US model updated with Kies. I have done many factory resets. I have tried it for 2 days without installing any apps or disabling any samsung bloat, with no change in the tablest behavior.

Kitkat sent my note into fits. Battery life was terribly erratic at first. Dropping 30% in an hour, then suddenly jumping back up by 10%.
I tried factory reset.... nothing changed. Then I used the Battery Callibration app from playstore. Ran it and followed instructions exactly. (Waited til it was charged 100%, then run the program, then completely drain battery, then let it charge continuously back up to 100%).
Go figure............ since then things have calmed down and I am getting the same battery life as on my old Jellybeans note. (I know, because I've got two of these tablets and literally compared them side by side.)
Or, it could also be that after firmware upgrade things need a bit of time to settle down. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I am used to android taking a bit to settle in. After my note 3 updated, it seems like it took a month to get back to my "normal". I hope the tablet does too, just frustrating in the mean time
Mine settled down after about 3 days and several resets. Now the battery seems comparable to pre-KitKat.
I don't think it is kit Kat. I'm running kit Kat and easily see 9 hours of screen on. It is most likely an app you have installed that is doing it.

Then not everyone would then mention that it is not change or improved (in stand-by).
No, normally a app or bad file on the sd-card is killing here the battery. All tools to find this out, are already mentioned here. Good luck.
4.4 in and of itself isn't causing poorer battery life. In fact, owners of other devices are reporting improvements. The Exynos N3 for example. There aren't any battery life issue threads on the Pro forums and they have the same h/w and we're most likely using their 4.4 drivers and kernel. There are threads like this in every device forum when an Android version upgrade is released. It's almost always due to a bad flash or a rogue app or service. That and older apps that haven't been updated in ions and aren't playing well with the new OS. People here have reported shorter charging time and longer battery life. So what's being discussed isn't universal. I'd suggest doing a stock recovery and reviewing older apps and those that aren't developed by known and larger developers.
I have a Shield and S4 too. For every poster raving, there seems an opposite view on battery life and the SD card issue.
The SD issue makes battery life debates moot. Google has an Apple wannabe syndrome. Perhaps they will rebrand as Goople.
You can recalibrate the battery by running it down below 20% then recharging. I have seen it recommended to do this every 30 days or so.
My Note 3 with KitKat started using 20-30% of the battery at night while it was idle. Looked and looked and couldn't find a clue to the problem. Decided to reboot, the next night it was fine, used maybe 2-3%

I did have charging problem and battery drain right after KK update. I have to do the Factory Data Reset. Luckily my tablet is back to normal if not better. I did spend sometime go thru all setting. So I managed to get 4 hrs of screen time with moderate use and I still have about 59% of battery.
So I say kk is good or better then jellybean

I updated a couple days ago and since then my battery just sucks. It just went from 100% to 29% in 2 hours just using Youtube. It can't be right. Definitely it's the upgrade!!
I loved my Note 10.1 2014 out the box that I decided not to root. So it's factory stock and suck very bad.
If it's a bad app I can find it. It worked flawlessly before the upgrade.
Factory reset and see if it still happens. A dirty flash can do weird stuff...

With the joke being on the user that lost the function.
Hi all.

However, when I tether a notebook or a tablet to the Note 3, it will give me about 8 hours of internet usage before it needs charging.
So what is the point of the Note 3 now? It is quickly becoming just an expensive modem.
Mine is worse too but not as yours. I want some solution.

Simply solution. Flash skyhigh kernel and U will have 10 hours screen on time. Or 3 days normal usage. .
I'm always doing stuff on internet. Mobiledata/WiFi I think thats why it drains faster.

No.
1. KK ruined battery life so you can't get over 6 hours of screen on in 4.4.2 unlike 4.3.
2. Different devices have different quality chips. You can't guarantee same results.
3. Show me your 10 hours screen on time with no underclocking or undervolting, or even a screen cap of 3 days of normal usage (Facebook, Whatsapp, Tapatalk)

Thanks everyone.
Unfortunately this phone has not improved. I can tether all day, but if I use the phone for what it was designed for, i.e, browsing internally it drains quicker than my bath.
I now have the most expensive phablet acting as a modem for other tablets, this really defeats the whole point of buying this phone.
I have been with Samsung since the GS3, but now my next phone will not be another Samsung.

Firstly I did was install battery stats app and check if you can find whats eating batery
If that doesnt help I would say flash firmware with odin including data(Backup before this). After that do an Full Reset and then try.
Since This is complete OS upgrade it will help clean lots of things. I am getting 5-6hrs SOT. All the best

I had terrible battery life initially as well. So I did a factory reset and...battery life still sucked. I think that was because I allowed Samsung and Google to restore my apps and previous app data. So, I did another factory reset and a completely clean installation of all my apps (no Samsung or Google-assisted restoring of apps). Since then, battery has been back to normal, which for me is about 4 hours of SOT.
