[Q] SM-N9005 - LTE Frequency Bands (Bell Canada) - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, everyone. This is my first post on XDA. I'm in Eastern Canada, and my local area just recently got LTE coverage, so I'm keen on taking advantage, but I'm on the international Note 3. I just recently upgraded from 4.3 to 4.4.2. Rooted with towelroot. Obviously Bell insists that there's absolutely no way I can get on their LTE network, although research suggests otherwise. I should note that my signal strength is typically bad (and erratic) compared to my friends'. Too many details are better than not enough, so here we go.
Model: SM-N9005
Model name: GALAXY Note 3
Country of origin: Made in Vietnam
Manufacturing date: 2013.09.11
Knox: 0x0
Original/Firmware/Active CSC Code: XME
CSC Country/ISO: Malaysia (MY)
Product code: SM-9005ZKEXME
Version: Android 4.4.2
Build date: Aug 28, 2014
Bootloader/Baseband/PDA: N9005XXUGNH1
CSC: N9005OLBGNH1
Kernel: 3.4.0-1955971, [email protected] #1, Thu Aug 28
Build: KOT49H.N9005XXUGNH1
Changelist: 1955971
Active mobile operator name: Bell
Active mobile network code: 302610
1) I assume that there's no easy way to go about this, so I'm wondering if it's possible to "convert" the SM-N9005 to a SM-N900W8 (Bell Note 3), so to speak? In other words, can I safely use Odin to change my phone to read as below?
BMC (Bell Canada)
PDA/MODEM: N900W8VLUCNB7
CSC: N900W8OYACNB7
And if so, would LTE then work? Currently I have these bands available: 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, but I need many more than that.
2) If the above outline won't work, will I need to use the method from the following thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059
This looks rather heavy for my level experience, as I've never used custom firmware or kernels, and I'd prefer not to trip knox, if possible.
I know there's a fair amount of material on this, but I wanted to get insight on my particular situation before I make any reckless attempts.
Thank you in advance, for any help or direction.

You will trip KNOX regardless whether you mod or flash a different model's modem.
Best way is to try unlock the bands manually instead of attempting to flash another model's baseband as that may cause a permanent brick in the modem level. By modding you can always reflash.
Remember to take an EFS backup, by flashing TWRP then backing up EFS and dumping it on your computer just in case.

Thanks a lot, nicholaschum. I've since read up on it some more, and I'm definitely not alone on wanting to do this. Given the complexity of the band-enabling process, it may just be easier to sell my N3 and invest in a N4 directly from Bell. I'd hate to screw something up and be unable to return it to its original state.

It's not so complex. You can follow 32 steps in the Quick Start Guide of that thread.
You don;t need to calculate NV items manually. You can use Qualcomm NV Calculator app to calculate.
You even can try that guide with your stock om/kernel and see if the NV items stick? If they stick after reboot, that's OK. If they will not stick, then you will need the custom kernel.

Thanks, vndnguyen. My concern is that I might mess something up throughout the process and brick my phone, or render it unusable. That isn't an option at this point, or a risk I'm quite willing to take. I assume there are risks involved here. But are you saying that the worst that can happen if I try this on a stock rom/kernel that the NV items just simply won't stick? No harm done? I'd prefer to hear from someone who's done this on the same model with the same stock rom/kernel, only because I'm not well versed in this type of thing.
PS - I assume by "then you will need the stock kernel", you meant 'custom kernel'.

Yes, my typo, I have edited my post. Sorry.
I personally didn't try that instruction, as I don't need to add bands at the moment.

In any case, I appreciate your help. I'm guessing that I would indeed need a custom rom/kernel to have any chance at success, only because nothing ever goes how I hope it does
It's too bad there wasn't a 'batch' app to help automate at least some of the process. To add more bands, open 'band-adding app' and click 'add more bands'

If you read the Quick Start Guide, you will see there are 32 steps and they are not too complex. The most hard thing is calculation NV items, and you can use Qualcomm NV Calculator to calculate. All other steps are easy to understand. If you need more help at any steps in that guide, please let me know.

Thanks again, vndnguyen. If I knew it would work on my stock rom/kernel, I might attempt it, but I don't really have the time to spare if there's no guarantee that it will. I'd end up having to commit more time to a custom rom/kernel, wherein I'm sure something would go wrong. My problem is, once I start something, I can't get away from it In fact, I should be working right now - not posting here

Hi, all. I didn't make it far in the band unlock process because I can't even seem to get into diagnostic mode.
As soon as I go into USB settings and select CP, the below USB SETTINGS section disappears, and underneath CP is "OK" and "Reboot". It doesn't seem as if I can get it to stick on CP, or choose the below USB SETTINGS simultaneously (but it does say "Saved" after clicking OK). If I select 'RNDIS + DM + Modem' first and then CP, it does appear to take both settings, but it never shows both settings at the same time so I don't really know. Also can't seem to have USB debugging checked simultaneously, or else it won't even show up in device manager when plugged in. It does show up if I leave USB debugging unchecked, but again, not sure if I'm really in diagnostic mode. Not sure if this is related, but when I go to *#9090# it says:
DIAG CONFIG
NOT SUPPORTED
I've tried several drivers (uninstalled, reinstalled) both automatically and manually, and tried putting kies on and off, many reboots of both PC and phone, different USB ports, etc.
IN QPST there's a checkbox to show only diagnostic ports. If I uncheck this box, I can select something, but don't think that helps me. I'm getting the feeling that diagnostic mode is blocked or disabled. Any ideas? Thanks.

I've done a lot of exploration on the bands unlocking topics, summarised here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2869657
I haven't been able to unlock on my S5.

APN Getting Erased on Reboot (TELUS Note 3/SM-N900W8)

Hey guys,
I have a Telus Galaxy Note 3, on a Koodo network. Basically, the a Telus Note 3 works out of the box on Koodo's network without requiring a SIM unlock code (well, Telus owns Koodo). The problem is, the ROM apparently runs a script (on startups) that will wipe out any APN added, that does not belong to Telus.
At least that's what some of the clever people on Koodo's support forums are suggesting:
http://community.koodomobile.com/koodo/topics/apn_getting_cleared_on_reboot_android_galaxy_s3
http://community.koodomobile.com/koodo/topics/unlocked_galaxy_s3_apn_setting_gets_erased_on_reboot
I know those are on Galaxy S3, but I suspect it's the same behaviour on the Note 3 as well.
I know I can just keep re-applying Koodo's APN setting, but I'm hoping for a more permanent/elegant solution. Is there a way I can edit the master APN list or maybe disable the portion of the script where it would reset the APN list? Suggestions?
Thanks!
Found the solution, all credit goes to cellrama!
Note: This will factory reset your phone. All your data will be wiped.
1) Find out what your IMEI number is. Several ways, look at the box that came with your device. Alternatively, you can also use the Phone/Dialer.app and punch in *#06#. Make a note of the 15-digit IMEI number. Press "OK" to dismiss the pop-up.
2) Open the Dialer.app again, punch in *#272*IMEINUMBERHERE#. As an example, *#272*123456789012345#
3) You'll be presented with a list of carriers, choose the carrier you're with and press Install (note: since I'm with Koodo, I picked KDO)
4) Your phone will now reboot itself into recovery mode and will perform an Erase on your current ROM setup.
5) ???
6) PROFIT! You no longer forced to manually enter the APN each time you reboot.

Since you have a Telus branded device, you are correct... It works with Koodo out of the box but usually has 3 APN's (Clearnet, Koodo and Telus). The Telus APN will be correct but the others are wrong. You will want to ensure you have your Koodo SIM in the device and from your dial pad, enter *#06# to get your IMEI number. Write this down (first 15 digits) and then press OK to get back to the dial pad. Now enter *#272*IMEI NUMBER# So as an example: *#272*123456789123456# This will bring up a screen and select KDO for "Koodo" and press install. Your phone will go through a reformat and boot sequence and should read the APN settings from your SIM and set up the device correctly. If not, go into your Network Settings under APN and delete the existing APN's and add the new one then save. Reboot your device and everything should be working correctly.
Hope this helps!

Cheers! Now, the trouble is… I'm rooted using the Root De La Vega method. Will reseting the device into KDO cause me to lose root?

I'm going to assume no as you are just changing a regional setting. Your ROM should stay in-tact. I have a WIND Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and I have rooted, installed TWRP and installed the Telus ROM so I have LTE capability. I had to do the same process to enable the LTE modem after it did a factory reset of my device.
Your custom ROM on a Telus device is no different than my Telus ROM on a WIND device so I'm sure it would be OK but don't quote me on it.
Hope this helps!

The best answer I can provide (since I'm new to this as well) is it will wipe your device and reset it but since you have rooted the device, your custom ROM should be in-tact. If not, you can recover from TWRP (make a backup through TWRP prior to changing the setting) or install the ROM again through ODIN if it does fail for some reason. I don't think the device reset will affect contents in your /data/ folder but make a backup as a precaution.
Hope this helps!

bad: it did perform a factory reset.
good: NO MORE HAVING TO RE-ENTER APN EACH TIME I REBOOT! Huzzah!

Such a good victory, you posted twice I'm glad it worked but sorry about the reset. If you have your backup, you can reload through TWRP (if installed) by powering off your device and loading the program by powering on using the Volume Up, Home Button and Power Button simultaneously. When you see the SGN3 logo, let go. From TWRP, browse to your ROM on the internal device storage or if wiped, your external SD card. If you do not have TWRP installed, load ODIN and restore the ROM from there.
I'm glad it all worked out and let me know if I could provide additional help!

I hate to burst your bubble but by installing a custom ROM, you have already tripped your KNOX counter unknowingly. During the install of the custom ROM when you put your device into download mode where it warns about installation of custom ROMS (Volume Down/Home/Power), once you press the volume up button and start the installation of the ROM, it shows in very small lettering in the top left (white) knox value 0x0 then underneath, knox value 0x1. 0x1 means warranty is void.
When you go into your Settings | General | About Device | Status
Your Device Status will say "Custom" instead of official (hence, you've rooted the device).

Telus Note 3 with Telus tablet plan
Hi everyone,
I am new here so if I have posted in the wrong area, PLEASE do not shoot me
I have a dumb question which is I have a Telus Note 3 which I bought online from Telus a couple of days ago. I wanted to use my Telus tablet sim in the Note 3 as I dont (never) make traditional phone calls and did not want to pay $ 70+ a month for voice and 1GB of data.
When I insert my TELUS tablet sim into the Telus Note 3, I found that that I was not able to change the APN setting from "sp.telus.com" to "isp.telus.com"
If I do not change to isp.telus.com, I start getting billed about $130 for about 110mb (yes mega NOT giga) I had the same problem when I unlocked my BELL Note 2 last year and used my Telus tablet SIM. WHen I changed the APN setting on my Note 2 to isp.telus.com all was fine and my monthly bill was just under $20 / month.
The thing is, I am able to change the APN setting on the unlocked Bell Note 2. On the locked Telus Note 3, every time I change to isp.telus.com and restart the phone, the setting changes back to sp.telus.com. I do not have an option to save my changes or add a new APN setting manually.
The question I had was this: If I unlock the Telus Note 3 and put in my Telus tablet sim in, would I be able to change the APN setting to isp.telus.com? Or is it something that Telus is doing that will not change, even if the phone is unlocked.
Any words of wisdom would be very much appreciated. I have to return the phone in about 10 days so I look forward to your replies as soon as possible please.
Many thanks!!

Dreaded Samsung Retail Mode on Galaxy s5

Anyone out there willing to help guide me through the process of getting the retail mode removed form a samsung galaxy s5? Of course Im willing to compensate you for your time if we can get it to work.
Ive got no experience with Rom's and or installing a rom and the basic passwords have not worked on getting the software removed. Any help would be appreciated.
PhoneDoctor1
Which S5 model have you got?
Make a free account on sammobile dot com (Links are not allowed here)
Type your model S5 into the firmware section and download a ROM
Grab ODIN 3.09 or later (Easy to find with a quick google)
Extract the ROM from the zip, should end up with .MD5 file
Install Samsung drivers (Easy to find with a quick google or Installing KIES3 will also install them)
Put phone into download mode (Power off, then hold Vol down & Home & power, release when the warning appears and hit volume up when asked)
Connect phone to PC USB and wait for drivers to complete installing
Load .MD5 ROM into AP or PDA section of ODIN
Make sure only 'F.Reset Time' and 'Auto Reboot' options are selected in ODIN
Hit START on ODIN and wait for it to complete
All being well, your phone should reboot into the ROM, take a while for first boot, especially if you flash a Lollipop ROM (give it 15 mins+)
Some people find it hangs on first boot, and need to boot into recovery mode and factory reset after flashing the ROM
Same results.
*Detection* Thank you so much for your prompt response and help with this. Unfortunately the steps you provided didn't work for me. I was able to Get Odin, download the correct ROM, drivers, and everything. I installed the ROM on the phone (Took 4 minutes) though ODIN and it stated that it succeeded. Phone restarted and retail mode was back on the phone.
Any other options to get it removed?

Some instructions here on how to disable retail mode
http://www.naldotech.com/how-to-disable-exit-galaxy-s5-demo-live-unit-retail-mode/
How to delete, disable and exit Demo Live Unit Retail Mode on the Samsung Galaxy S5
1. The first thing to do is to disable the retail mode of the firmware.
2. Go to the app drawer and open an app called Samsung Retail.
3. Go to Configuration Settings and enter the password 5444 to unlock it.
4. Then uncheck “Disable the factory reset” and enter the following password M729Q16K8546.
5. Turn your Samsung Galaxy S5 off and boot into Recovery.
6. Go to Wipe data & factory reset and press OK.
7. The phone will reset and all the applications will get removed.
8. Flash a stock firmware with ODIN (tutorial).
There must be something different about this retail mode. It looks different than the others shown in previous posts or youtube videos. I can't seem to disable the app and the passwords don't work. Ive seen a few youtube videos on how to remove it and the one I see doesn't look like the one thats on this galaxy s5. Any other workaround to your knowledge?
PhoneDoctor1
Not that I know of off hand, I`ll post back here if I find anything, it might be quicker to take it to a phone shop and ask them to disable it for you

Which version S5 have you got?
Just noticed this thread for the G900X to disable Retail Mode
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733083
Ive got the t-mobil version here in the states. I did see that thread before I posted mine but that wont enable me to make calls. It will most likely turn the phone into a wifi capable phone without cell service.
Sorry, I meant which model S5, mine is the G900F
I take it you bought the phone second hand? Unless someone else can help I think taking it in for repair would be the best bet if those tutorials are not working
I would like to know how you got into retail mode!
And, of course, your model. Its in the system informations.
I had a similar issue with a laptop once (purchased the display model).....
The only thing that fixed it was formatting the hard drive and re installing everything from the recovery discs......
I guess the equivalent for Android would be to flash a PIT file (I think this will reformat the memory) then the firmware (both) with odin........
If you DO go this route, be EXTREMELY careful to flash the CORRECT pit file as flashing the wrong pit will irrevocably brick your phone.........
Sent from my rooted kn0x0 stocKK SM-G900F S5
I appreciate the help and responses. From my understanding the retail mode can not be removed. It seems that Samsung specially designed these phones with software that can't just easily be flashed.

I had just about given up on a straightforward fix, and was about to resort to some major firmware manipulation that would have likely led me to all sorts of confusion. It turns out the password was "rethink" as is listed in multiple places across the web. (AT&T SM-G900A Galaxy S 5) It is applied to the Samsung Retail Mode app which has a "burger" icon in top right corner of the screen that must be selected first to lead towards password entry. This is not the "Retail Experience" app, but the other similar one. Once the Retail Mode app is uninstalled, there are intuitive steps leading to uninstalling of the "Retail Experience" one next, with no new passwords.

Mobile data stuck on EDGE

Hello everyone, i'm new to XDA forums and hopefully i'll find a solution to my problem here.
I am always stuck on EDGE (E) when it comes to mobile network usage, regardless of where i am. I've tried using my SIM card in another phone and it instantly goes to HSPA+ (H+).
My phone is pretty much new and i didnt mess much with it as i dont know enough about phones to play with them in that way, it has been like this ever since i took it. There is one thing that i think its most likely causing it and that is that my phone was rooted when i bought it. >>> I dont know anything about advantages/disadvantages of rooted phone and if this may or may not cause any problems but i've never had this kind of an issue before with any phone and none of my phones before were rooted. <<<
I wanted to try and unroot the device by using Mobile ODIN Pro from Google Play Store but i stopped before i even started as the PRO version that is needed for this to be done says my device is not supported and therefore i cannot buy it. I had the Lite version and there are like 4-5 features that require PRO version in order for them to be used.
I have a GT-I9505 running on 4.4.2 android version, i'm from Serbia with mts as provider for what it matters.
P.S. My network mode is set to WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), if i change it to WCDMA only i lose network completely and if i put GSM only its again back on EDGE.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Let's make sure you actually have an I9505. Try to enter download mode (shut the S4 off, then hold volume down, home, and power). The model at the top of the screen with the green Android on it is the actual model of your S4.

It is I9505 as i said. How do i leave this mode now? It says "Downloading... Do not turn off target !!" across the screen. :v
I strongly suggest you check that attitude of yours. Just because you said it doesn't mean it actually is. There have been too many instances of counterfeit phones as well as phones from another carrier being installed with I9505 ROMs and IMEI numbers and sold to the unsuspecting. The question is thus a valid one.
If you're looking to exit download mode, simply pull the battery. If you're looking to reinstall a stock ROM, then you're on the right screen. Simply connect your S4 to your computer and use the desktop version of Odin to flash the stock ROM. Now, how do you know which stock ROM you should be using? Simply tell us your carrier.

There is no attitude mate, i just told you that it is what i earlier wrote after checking it the way you told me to. Nothing more than that.
By carrier you mean my mobile provider or whatever its called? If so, Telekom Srbija (mts).
The latest ROM for your device is here. The page gives instructions on how to use the file as well as download links.
Few questions:
Will that install lollipop? If yes, is lollipop worth getting? I recently heard opposite while i was actually trying to get it. It's the only opinion that i can sort of take in count so idk if its true or not.
Will it fix the problem?
"Add the firmware file to AP / PDA"
- What is(are) AP / PDA?
"Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked"
- This is an option in Odin i suppose, if it is disregard it. If not please explain.
Edit: I've downloaded PC version of Odin and i only see AP among other boxes for files to be added. Is PDA another name for it or..?
Should i also check the little box next to where it says AP? (picture below)
There's another zip file in odin folder "S1PlugIn.bundle_141117", i suppose i shouldnt touch this as you havent mentioned it?
P.S. Sorry if my questions appear stupid but i'm facing all of this for the first time and i'm just being extra careful as i dont want to mess up something.
This is the latest ROM for your device, so it will install Android 5.0.1. I believe it to be worthwhile, but if you want Android 4.4.2 instead a download is also available for it at the same site. Will it fix the problem? It should. If it doesn't then a hardware problem is more likely.
AP and PDA are two different names for the same thing. Older versions of Odin used PDA. Checking the box next to it won't hurt, and that other file isn't something you touch.
So i need to turn off my phone, go to download mode, connect pc and phone with USB, wait for some "blue sign" from ODIN and then add the file and run Start? Re-partition is disabled by default.
Everything went smooth but the problem persists... I even changed the network mode to the new options that i got (which includes 4g if i'm not wrong).
What to do?
P.S. 5.0.1 runs really slow for me, takes double more RAM than 4.4.2 and it almost filled up my whole phone memory
Try a different sim in your phone. if you still don't get 4g then you probably have a hardware failure.

Aye... Still the same even with another sim card. I guess its hardware problem in the end. Any idea what would it cost to fix, if you know what the problem could be at all?

Flashing T-Mobile firmware on Verizon sm-g930v

Hi guys, thanks for taking the time to read and respond
I got a Verizon sm-g930v Galaxy s7 and my service is through T-Mobile.
I currently have Verizons very recent nougat 7 release with security patch of February 1, 2017 and baseband G930VVRU4BQA2.
I have 2 issues which might be related and I'm trying to figure out what's the best way to do it and if it is at all possible.
1) my lte speed is crap and service inside buildings is awful. I read that there are ways to unlock the bootloader but couldn't find how to do it on my phone.
2) no ussd codes work even after factory reset, every single ussd code I put (even the one to view imei) says ussd running and then says connection problem or invalid mmi.
Is it possible to flash T-Mobile nougat firmware on my phone? Will it unlock the bootloader to allow me to unlock all lte bands?
Is there another better way to solve the above issues?
Thanks for your help!

hi, not bootloader unlock yet for the g930v, you can dowload and flash the g930t firmware G930TUVU4BQB1.
Thank you

1. find/download the firmware you want to install on your phone (can find at updato.com)
2. extract the files from the firmware file to a folder
3. download/install Samsung Smart Switch
4. backup your phone settings with Samsung Smart Switch (if you have a memory card, maybe be good to remove that and back it up on PC, probably faster this way than thru Samsung Smart Switch)
5. install the latest version of Odin on your PC, open it
6. select BL/AP/CP/CSC buttons then select the matching file (BL for BL_xyz file, etc) - if you use the HOME_CSC file you will NOT have any tmobile specific features (Wifi Calling) enabled/appear, you must use the regular CSC file to add/enable these features
7. in Odin, select OPTIONS and make sure that only "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" are checked
8. put the galaxy s7 phone in download mode (turn off....while off press VolumeDown+Home+Power until a blue screen appears, press VolumeUp button to enter download mode)
9. connect the galaxy s7 phone to the PC (you should see a blue icon appear under ID:COM afterward)
10. hit START in Odin to begin the process
11. when the process is complete (PASS appears in Odin status window) the galaxy s7 will reboot and begin to install the update
ISSUE - if the phone boots to recovery mode, dm-verity verification failed....DO NOT PANIC....simply put the phone back in download mode, connect it to the PC, and in Odin ONLY select the AP file....install only that file and let the device restart, it should boot to the user menu)
NOTES - while the device is booting to the user menu, it may sit at the Tmobile splash screen an extended amount of time the initial time - please let it sit for a few minutes, and it will boot to the user menu (subsequent restarts don't have a long delay at Tmobile screen)
12. after it boots to the user menu, connect the galaxy s7 to the PC, and restore the phone using Samsung Smart Switch

Thank you so much for taking the time to write all this!! Will it let me go on T-Mobile lte bands after or that won't be possible until there is a bootloader unlock for the device?

Well... no bootloader unlock to free lte bands, and give a try on this rom to find if you can use your lte bands
There is a thread here related to your issue
Take a look at this thread and you may find your answers.

Thank you, I finally got to doing it. It was easy and I now have T-mobile OS on the phone, all Verizon stuff is gone and USSD codes now working. It seems like I was able to select all LTE bands, speed is a bit better indoors but not amazing.
Is there a reason to fully root the phone? and can someone explain what benefits would I have from rooting at this point?

Rooting gives you full control over the phone. Think Windows "Administrator" account.
Some things that a rooted phone can do is fully disable and uninstall stock & carrier Bloatware, install true ad blocking services, firewall control.
But, with that kind of power, it's way easier to brick your phone, or kill the performance of the device if you start changing things that shouldn't be changed.
Thank you

This is an old thread, so I am hoping on some newer information. I have been using a Verizon Galaxy S7 on T-Mobil for about a year. This past week we were in the Lake Michigan area and I found that my wife's A21 got much better reception in several areas. I have been reading here about the g930U firmware as well as the ability to flash to the current T-Mobile ROM.
I do not need to revert back to Verizon, but I need wifi calling and all the bands that are available from T-Mobile. Can just flashing to the T-Mobile for Android 8 work for me?

Just flashed to the most recent t-mobile firmware on my Verizon phone successfully. Thanks to information on this thread!
@dlbeaty what did you use to flash to most recent t-mobile firmware? I have G930V Oreo I am trying to use on T-Mobile and having same issues. Would like to try to flash to resolve as well. Thanks!

Help me with flashing stock firmware

Hi
I got my wife a Samsung S8, SIM free as it was cheaper to buy the phone out right and get a 3 SIM only deal.
Only problem is because we got the phone from a online retailer, 3 won't activate the wifi calling.
So I have decided to flash the 3 S8 firmware via odin to my wife's phone but before I do that I have a few questions so I know I don't mess things up.
I will list the questions in number form so could you list the answers in number form with answer matching the question number, so I know what people are talking about.
1. When I glanced at Sammobile, I saw nothing mentioned about 3. Only thing I saw was H3G does this mean 3....if not what is 3 software listed as.
2. Will flashing this firmware wipe or factory reset her phone. (I know that I need to back things up anyway)
3. Will doing this Firmware flash void her insurance. As it's official Samsung software, I didn't think so but I want to be sure.
4. After the update will her phone be locked to 3.
5. Has anyone got any tips and guides which can help with this.
6. I hear that you can google blocked doing this type of thing, how do you get around getting blocked and if I do, how do I unblock a google blocked phones.
7. Will flashing 3 firmware actually give me wifi calling in the end.
8. After I have installed the firmware....will I receive future android/ Samsung updates. E.g. android 7 to android 8 updates, security patches and bug fixes
Thanks guys I will leave those questions for now....if I have anymore I will add them on another comment.
Hope you can help me I have attached some stuff I saw on the net incase it helps in anyway

Firstly, there are Dozens and dozens of flash guides all over the web on flashing a SS phones with ODIN, 2nd'ly, its one of the easiest phones to flash..
Before you do anything download and install the latest SS USB drivers.. plug your phone in so they are detected.. then goto>settings and turn ON USB debugging in developer options.. plug in phone again.. so the device is detected again, then unplug... this installs the (A)ndroid (D) ebug (B)ridge driver, leave USB Debugging ON..
Your questions:,,
1) Yes H3G is 3UK... also EE use wifi calling..
2) Yes, it will wipe her phone... When you download your H3G firmware.. there are 2 CSC files in the folder.. I recommend using CSC... do not use HOME_CSC
3) No it will not void the warranty... its only when you trip KNOX by rooting, or custom roms that you invalidate warranty... Stock is fine
4) Yes it will... you will have to get an Unlock code to SIM unlock her phone.. SIM Unlock.. is not Flashing a rom.. What makes SS devices so cool.. is that you can flash any stock rom from any provider.. and it doesnt affect the bootloader, so you could flash an unbranded (open), EE or O2 rom on your 3 SIM locked phone..
5) Theres so many on the web and on XDA for SS phones and ODIN flashing, just type "Galaxy S8 back to stock" into search. My advice.. READ READ and more READ the guides ALL THE WAY Through, before you do ANYTHING AT ALL.. and make sure the phone you have has no SIM locks or security locks on it before you start.
6) Never heard of this... its only a stock rom your flashing, youll be fine
7) If 3 support Wifi Calling and the Rom your flashing has it coded in, then Yes it should work fine. EE also support Wifi calling
8) Yes... its a STOCK Rom with a STock recovery and STOCK Knox... so you will recieve updates according to when they are rolled out by that prvider... So, if its a 3 Rom, youll get updates when 3 push them out... if its an O2 rom, youll get them from O2.. and so on.... That is why soo many people flash Unbranded/Unlocked Open Roms... because unlocked phones have, in the past, gotten updates first and factory unlocked phones / roms dont come with Bloatware / carrier rubbish apps installed ..
Remember.. Just READ everything
Hope this helps

Thank you so much. I will make sure to do my research. I have used odin before so I have some experience using the tool but not for big things like this. Last thing I used it for was to download TWRP to my rooted tablet.
I will also pull out her memory card so she can save her photo......she will be pissed about the wiping the phone part but if we want wifi calling then needs are a must.
Anyway of backing up her phone on a level where I can just put in her user name and password it will literally restore back to the point of the last back up....eg install all her the apps and themes the way she had them before the firmware update.
It's really important I nail this, as this is the first time we have gone SIM free and I don't want to be going back to paying extra for contracts just because we need the wifi calling. (And we both hate the three in touch app)....so my success with this will be important for the next phones we buy.

Hi....i seem of got myself in a pickle.
I read countless amounts of guides and watch loads of videos but still not gone right. (Phone isn't broken thankfully)
Basically I do everything guides tell me, but it's when I press start on odin the problem happens. It doesn't fail but it doesn't progress....on the text box it stops at a point that says Nand START (something like that) but doesn't get past that point....i sat for an hour the first time I tried it and 30 mins every time after that. Another thing it does is at the top where you get the green loading bar....that part goes white and says something like select Partition (not near my pc at the mo and when I was with the pc my wife had my phone, so couldn't take a photo)
I have 3 solutions that could be causing the problem but I just want to get a second opinion.
1. I read everywhere about device drivers and I was under the impression that they downloaded automatically when I plugged the phone to the pc....is there secondary drivers I need to download (sorry for the basic question)
2. My odin wasn't the latest version....i was using odin 3.09 and now there is odin 3.13 (I think) will using the latest version stop this problem.
3. I wonder if my antivirus is blocking it....do antivirus's ever get in the way of flashing firmware.
Hope some can help before tonight

Hi again everyone.
I feel like I am talking to myself here. I have managed to sort it.
I downloaded some secondary device drivers for her phone and then update odin to, Odin v3.12.7 and it worked first time.
I also used the original charging cable instead of the official charging cable for the gear 360 camera.
To restore her data, I backed up to samsung cloud in the settings, signed her in and restored the date I backed up....didn't originally think it would be any good but I am impressed.
Result is I have a phone that has wifi calling and I read somewhere that if you take the SIM out of your phone when you download the firmware it doesn't SIM lock the phone.....and it seems to have worked. (Not sure how true it is or if I was just lucky)
Hope this thread helps, I want to cover a few different things in it and learn something on the way.
(Thanks to the person that commented and supplied most of the info in this thread)

Hi everyone.......again.
My last post I promise.
I wrote a bit of a guide for myself for when I need to do this again. I thought would post it here so people can see it and use it if they wish.
(The notes before the method is apart of my guide. Hope it all helps)
Notes Before The Method
the cable you are using to connect to the pc should be the original charging cable. (If you don't have the original then use the one your using and see if it works but try to find a official Samsung charging cable)
Your phone needs to be at least at 60% battery.
Older phones sometimes don't work with newer versions of Odin so if this is happening download a older version.
If it's a new phone and you want to personalize it from scratch then no need to back up and restore any data.
After removing your memory card, plug it into your computer using a memory card extension and copy photos to your computer. Just in case the phone formats the memory card when entered back in to the phone, after the firmware is installed.
Method
1. Go to Sammobile via Google chrome in incognito mode. (If you don't do this they will re-direct you to a sign up page, everytime you press download)
2. Download Firmware, find this by picking the lastest firmware thats with your network and match the Baseband version or the last part of build number. (found in system info in the settings)
3. Install the latest version of Odin and install secondary device drivers on your pc/Laptop.
4. (On your mobile) back up your data in the samsung cloud.
Setting>Cloud and Accounts>Samsung Cloud>Backup settings> Back up.
If you have a memory card, move all your photos ect, to it and remove it from your phone.
5. Go into setting and tap build number 7 times to unlock developer options. After unlocking it, enter developer options and enable usb debugging.
Setting>developer options>USB Debugging.
6. Once the firmware file has stopped downloading on your pc extract it and send send it to your Downloads File.
7. Open Odin and load each part of firmware in the right box e.g. AP with AP, BL with BL, CSC with CSC ect (Do not load up Home CSC this is used for when your moving a branded device to another brand, E.g. EE to 3)
8. Before you plug your phone up to the computer. Turn your phone off and enter Odin mode(Download mode). Each device has a different way of doing this so just google how to do it on your specific device.
9. Once your phone is in download mode plug it into the computer and press start. This should take a few minutes but some files may take longer.
10. Once the Odin confirms the process is done, by showing the pass sign unplug your phone and turn it on. (First time you turn it on May take a minute or two to load. )
11. Enter your google email and password, and restore all your data on google.
12. Then enter your Samsung user and password, after that press restore and choose the date you backed up on before you flashed your phone (at point 4)
13. Enjoy....your all done.
