I can't install that app, but I tried an app called droid FM Radio Lite which checks to see if you have FM hardware and my phone doesn't. I've got a N910W8 (Canadian model)

I strongly doubt that. Are you absolutely certain it's not via Internet? If it works without the headphones, it most certainly is NOT FM.

Well, your wrong. It has FM radio... And how am i sure? It required headphones, and the static that was caused when i moved around the headphone wire which is an antenna...

Interesting, I had no idea there is a Note 4 with FM radio. Pity I don't have one :silly:

I installed NextRadio on the Verizon version and it says no FM Receiver as soon as you open it. So not only does Sprint come with free headphones, but also an FM Receiver.
Does anyone know if TMobile has one?

Is this hardware or software issue?
I'm really curious to know whether the Note 4 CAN have fm radio (like the Sprint version) but it is disabled in software, or do the other versions of the phone not have the hardware capability?
I have the 910U, and I would love to have FM radio on mine. No data, listen to news, get emergency broadcasts etc.

A VERY good point. I've been dying to know that too. My Note 4 model is SM-910F, carrier: Orange, Romania.
Droid lite app says there's no FM capability on my device, but still: is it only software-disabled by Samsung (and thus we can root etc. and get FM), or is it hardware disabled (physical pins grounded in the chip --> nothing we can do, other than soldering or buying fm headphones)
What were Samsung thinking?

Anybody can put the next radio apk? It is not available on the store in my country (Argentina).

Galaxy S II, in official spec, has no FM radio with RDS.
http://galaxys2.samsungmobile.com/ht...ification.html
Reading the official spec from Samsung site above, we can see no mention to FM radio.
I have Galaxy S and I am always sad because it has no flash in the Camera.
Arena, Clove, etc. mention that Galaxy S II has FM radio; but it is not the first time that these sites mention a feature that after, officially, we discover it's not true.
It was very stupid if Samsung gives us flash but take off FM radio. I like all features in one only smartphone. We pay a lot for that.
So, I would apreciate and thank very much if someone can clarify this point for sure.
Thanks very much.
then don't.

yes it does.
look under multimedia broadcast.
If you look at the press announcement the specs listed are slightly different than the ones on the SGS2 site - it specifically states FM Radio with RDS. Thats official and direct from Samsung.
MHL is another one that is listed in the press release, but not the site.

FM radio almost worked!

I found this app called connected music, it has an option for FM radio. So of course I click on it and it says to plug in headphones. I do that then it says starting FM and then theres a tuner wheel along the bottom where you can set it to your radio stations. But the best part is that when pressing the volume buttons while the fm app is going, the volume being adjusted is FM volume . Not media volume, ringer volume but FM volume. Of course I couldnt ever actually hear anything but it was acting like the FM radio in the phone was alive and well. What do u all think about that?

Oh they do, it's built into the Broadcom chipset, but in the US, I think Nokia holds an essential patent on the functionality, so for the most part, it is disabled at the hardware or firmware level unless the carrier/manufacturer licenses the use of it and has it FCC approved.

Most phones/devices use headphones as the FM antenna (exactly why it said plug in your headphones to listen to FM radio for the OP).
Yeah I remember somebody posting the moto music player awhile back. It worked with fm.. but again only with headphones.. I would LOVE to see a reverse fm thing. Like use my phone to stream audio via the radio to my car.. anyone know if our phones are capable of this?
cd's or tapes?
I was looking at some phones today that had the FM functionality. They appear to require the headset as an FM antenna. We know the chip has FM capability, and this topic appears to signal a chance. Can someone who knows something look into this?

if someone could figure how to get the FM working - might be able to use the car charger as the antenna and then try the old fm tuner function to listen to tunes from the phone on the car radio - damn I miss that feature.
The car dock Samsung thing is just junk.
I wish Monster would make a mini-usb charger/tuner plug-in.
I hate using CD's again and can't justify getting an Ipod and becoming a slave to Apple when I have 1200 songs on my phone.

I have seen several apps that all start, but wont initialize the FM Radio Chip.
Back when the Epic was first released, there was a setting.apk file that had the FM radio in it, with an option to turn it on, but the settings/apk file caused massive FCs, but I cant seem to find it again after many searches
It seems the issue that causes the block, is the inability to turn on the internal FM Radio.
Read up on the broadcom chip in the phone, it says that a few of the device onboard (FM Radio, 802.11, Bluetooth) actually share the same antennas.

Does the note 4 have FM radio or the hardware for one?

Cant seem to find an answer to this anywhere, here in aus we don't have unlimited data so streaming apps are out of the question has samsung finally woken up to itself and put in an fm radio? Or at least the hardware inside the phone to use an after market app like spirit FM?
Although the note 4 is full of awesomeness, If not i think its time for me to look else where for a phone maybe the next HTC will be up to par?
thanks for any help.
wow so even people that own the phone dont know if it has an fm radio, this is crazy i cant find the answer to this anywhere....
I don't think many people here have Note 4 yet, but judging from the past I don't think it will have one. Now funny part is, almost all Samsung phones in the past had radio hardware but it was disabled. There was a developer who wrote a program to enable it in some phones, but he speculated that for example Note 3 had antenna shorted to the ground, so even with his program it wouldn't work, unless you were brave enough to actually do some soldering. If I had to speculate, I would lean towards carriers requesting radio to be eliminated, they don't make money if you use free fm radio, instead of streaming, but that could mean some versions could have it. In many places Note 4 should be available any day now, so we should know more then.
it does have fm chip
Only sprint allows you to use it. The rest of the carriers have not activated it yet. Read the next radio website for more information
I believe Sprint Note 4 uses specific modem (radio) which includes fm radio tuner too. It is not about carriers not activating that feature, it is not included in hardware in other models of Note 4.

I also don't seem to find the info about built-in FM chip into this specific Note 4 model.
For all it matters, I do know it's Snapdragon CPU powered.
If I rooted the phone, would I be able to use the FM chip inside?
@ OP: have you been able to dig up more on this? Thanks!

Root is required, You could try borrowing the apk for FM radio and the lib files from a "sprinter" and placing in your system. Thats the place to start.
Look at Nextradio apps supported devices page, find your device in my case Note 4.
Unless a Boost Mobile, Sprint, or Virgin Mobile version of a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 differs from a AT&T or Verizon version then I highly doubt any version of the Note 4 is lacking an FM radio chip. I recall AT&T unlocking the feature in the near future for the Note 4 *hint*. Not to mention Samsung purposely didn't advertise the fact *hint*. So logic says yes it's there and for some reason carriers are playing the "we didn't know" game and prefer to force you to use your data so it would seem. Since voice, and text is unlimited nowadays. I've called Verizon and even their reps are advertising it doesn't exist for the Note 4. But I know better! xD

Wow, that's great news. (And I even thought this ropic was dead, even more so with recent note 5 hipe and all).
Really appreciate your contribution to this and since I'm in Europe and not following US mobile tech events, if you could just let us know whether or not AT&T unlocking FM ever happens, would mean a great deal.
Still havent rooted my note 4 and moreover I'm in greater doubt than ever before, if it's worth doing it - perhaps time to sell it is near and it unrooted means better resell value.
If I would just know for sure if my specific SM 910F model has real physical inbuilt FM hardware chip, I'd definitely go for it.

This only means those carriers are enabling the FM chip. Boost and Virgin both use Sprint towers I believe so they all have Sprint hardware with their own front end.
*You all should take into account that I'm merely researching and interpreting it all to my logic. It may differ from yours.
Any updates on Radio tuner enabled? I'm just curious if you got it to work.
What would be the case if I bought my Note 4 phone unlocked, from an electronics sales Samsung representative (not from a carrier)? is there a way to find out if the hardware is installed?
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SM_N910G with Resurrection Remix 5.8.3 on it. How do I activate it if i do not have any carrier to go too because I live in australia.

In what Countries did fire(s) occur?

It seems to me that if all of the defective batteries were in Asia (as it appears from News), then we are dealing with both a different processor than the one employed in North America. Believe US has Snapdragon and rest of World Exynos. There is a difference, I have read, between the ability of the two processors to "regulate" voltage and prevent battery from overheating.
Secondly, we have A/C 120 current in the States - believe that Europe and Asia have D/C 220.
So, unless the defective batteries were found both in States and Euro/Asia, then perhaps it is the processor and/or the type of current that is exacerbating the problem(s).

A lot of us came from the Note7 and have the gear fit 2, has anyone set it up on the v20 and if so could you post a tutorial here? Or better yet make a how to thread in the news and guides section. Is there any place where all the different health apps are compared? We got SHealth, LG Fit, Google Fit... never mind dedicated apps like Runkeeper vs Runtastic (I don't know the difference between those either, except that I have used Runkeeper and not Runtastic).
I don't mind manually entering stuff. I don't really trust the calorie estimates on my Gear Fit 2, and I only use it to track steps, something I don't necessarily need aggregated. If I did need it aggregated, of course, I could probably be bothered to enter it manually if one app was markedly better.
I feel like all I'm seeing right now are just "22 best fitness apps" and they don't really care about apples-to-apples comparisons, even.
I don't use them so I wouldnt know. I just installed it to ensure it works lol
