I found this app called connected music, it has an option for FM radio. So of course I click on it and it says to plug in headphones. I do that then it says starting FM and then theres a tuner wheel along the bottom where you can set it to your radio stations. But the best part is that when pressing the volume buttons while the fm app is going, the volume being adjusted is FM volume . Not media volume, ringer volume but FM volume. Of course I couldnt ever actually hear anything but it was acting like the FM radio in the phone was alive and well. What do u all think about that?

The problem I ran into was no way to turn on the FM Radio chip
I found a widget for the galaxy phones from europe that would launch, but ran into a wall as it wanted the FM Radio turned on.
edit: ran into same issue I did with the galaxy S radio widget, it seems the FM Radio chip is not being turned on

Oh they do, it's built into the Broadcom chipset, but in the US, I think Nokia holds an essential patent on the functionality, so for the most part, it is disabled at the hardware or firmware level unless the carrier/manufacturer licenses the use of it and has it FCC approved.

Most phones/devices use headphones as the FM antenna (exactly why it said plug in your headphones to listen to FM radio for the OP).
Yeah I remember somebody posting the moto music player awhile back. It worked with fm.. but again only with headphones.. I would LOVE to see a reverse fm thing. Like use my phone to stream audio via the radio to my car.. anyone know if our phones are capable of this?
cd's or tapes?
I was looking at some phones today that had the FM functionality. They appear to require the headset as an FM antenna. We know the chip has FM capability, and this topic appears to signal a chance. Can someone who knows something look into this?

I installed an ATM App and it said dispensing cash! I almost got free money.....so close!
if someone could figure how to get the FM working - might be able to use the car charger as the antenna and then try the old fm tuner function to listen to tunes from the phone on the car radio - damn I miss that feature.
The car dock Samsung thing is just junk.
I wish Monster would make a mini-usb charger/tuner plug-in.
I hate using CD's again and can't justify getting an Ipod and becoming a slave to Apple when I have 1200 songs on my phone.

I have seen several apps that all start, but wont initialize the FM Radio Chip.
Back when the Epic was first released, there was a setting.apk file that had the FM radio in it, with an option to turn it on, but the settings/apk file caused massive FCs, but I cant seem to find it again after many searches
It seems the issue that causes the block, is the inability to turn on the internal FM Radio.
Read up on the broadcom chip in the phone, it says that a few of the device onboard (FM Radio, 802.11, Bluetooth) actually share the same antennas.

Galaxy S II, in official spec, has no FM radio with RDS.
http://galaxys2.samsungmobile.com/ht...ification.html
Reading the official spec from Samsung site above, we can see no mention to FM radio.
I have Galaxy S and I am always sad because it has no flash in the Camera.
Arena, Clove, etc. mention that Galaxy S II has FM radio; but it is not the first time that these sites mention a feature that after, officially, we discover it's not true.
It was very stupid if Samsung gives us flash but take off FM radio. I like all features in one only smartphone. We pay a lot for that.
So, I would apreciate and thank very much if someone can clarify this point for sure.
Thanks very much.
then don't.

look under multimedia broadcast.
If you look at the press announcement the specs listed are slightly different than the ones on the SGS2 site - it specifically states FM Radio with RDS. Thats official and direct from Samsung.
MHL is another one that is listed in the press release, but not the site.

That does help...unfortunately I would like to use a Logitech headset that utilizes both a headset and mic input separately. Would a splitter work with this? For example this item -> http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F8V234...WQSR/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1319923903&sr=8-2 or this item -> http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F8V234...7RC4/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1319924488&sr=8-8 (what's the difference between these two?)
Thank you!
Other than the colors there isn't really any difference between those two.
And sorry, those won't do it. I've included a pic below. If you will notice that there are three black bands on the tip of this one vs the two black bands on the tips of those others. That extra seperator is for the microphone.
This should do what you are wanting. If you can get a good enough look at the photo you should see a headset icon and a microphone icon on the female ends. It is a bit more expensive. But I didn't search for price, just the item. You can probably find cheaper at monoprice.com or maybe Ebay... Good Luck.

You do realise that the tab has a built in mic, right? but I can understand if you want something with a bit better quality. I wouldn't suggest the monoprice one. I heard that it doesn't auto connect when you start the car.
Look into the Blackberry Music Gateway. I just ordered one and it should be arriving tomorrow. It autoconnects with no problems.
I'm hoping to use this in conjunction with NFC to make everything automated.
I use the XtremeMac Incharge bluetooth. It works great and have used it with multiple phones and never had a problem syncing
I'm using this: http://dx.com/p/bluetooth-v2-0-edr-audio-receiver-w-3-5mm-audio-jack-for-iphone-4s-more-black-120198.
It's worked flawlessly so far. I've used it for over a year with my GNex and now my N4. I've never had to reconnect it after the first pairing and it's good to go as soon as I start the car. The only negative would be the shipping time from DX. It usually takes about a month for my items to arrive, but the low prices make up for the inconvenience.

Do you have another phone paired? Sync can only pair with one device at once and it was tricky figuring out how to drop the old one my first try. If that fails is there an update avail for your sync? Ford posts the updates and instructions to load using a flash drive on their website.
All good suggestions.. I like the GoGroove because I don't need a separate charger and it doesn't take up space in my storage console. I'll have to add the XtremeMac and BB Gateway to the list as well.
Funny thing is I used to use the Nexus One desktop dock to stream from my N1 in the car.
As someone linked to this seems tempting:
http://dx.com/p/bluetooth-v2-0-edr-audio-receiver-w-3-5mm-audio-jack-for-iphone-4s-more-black-120198
It's definitely gotta be the cheapest, and while only 2 reviews one does say it autoconnects. Sure hope it does.
What would you guys say is the best that:
- Autoconnects
- Has microphone support for calls (that doesn't COMPLETELY suck?)
I guess any bluetooth receive could be charged without issue... though I guess it's also nice to have one that is sort of "designed" to be used charged, so no real on/off type of thing...
With GoGroove, do you need to "turn it on" each time you start the car?
Yes my iphone was synced. Any idea how to unpaired the device? I I've since sold the iphone

3 words. . . .Black Electrical Tape :victory:
Last week I was in a rental Chevy with full BT integration. That made me realize just how nice it was, and how crappy my hacked 3.5mm input + Belkin BT in my older Saab really was.
So I broke down, called Crutchfield and ordered a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X796 head unit with full BT, USB, Pandora integration, HD radio, CD, etc. It arrived today and I had it installed in about an hour and a half, including soldering up the wiring harness. $189 well spent, fun new tech and sounds SO much better than the old stock head unit that it feels like I have a new car! Excellent, proper hands free calling with an external mike even. A bit more finish work to do when some other bits arrive on Tuesday.
There are cheaper similar options, even under $100, that lose the HD radio and CD player. I really wanted the HD radio, though who listens to CDs now?
Four hour round trip tomorrow to see my sisters and a couple of my nieces, probably streaming Spotify the whole way, with Google Nav running and some calls thrown in for good measure. The full workout.
Of course, the Crutchfield rep sold me a new set of door speakers too. "These are good, and they're on sale!" I'll get to those later. Then I suspect I'll want to replace the rear speakers. Then the dash speakers! LOL

I've been using the GROM-USB2 with a bluetooth adapter for about a year with multiple phones with no problems. It integrates with many factory stereos. In my car, I can use the steering wheel controls to skip tracks, and the seek buttons on the head unit to activate voice dialing and hang up calls. It also plays the navigation audio over the stereo speakers. It's a bit more than the ones you are looking at (about $130 with the bluetooth option), and installation is a bit more involved, but I'm really happy with it. You can find more information on their site at:

I have found many cars' built-in speedometers to be wildly inaccurate (more imports, strangely). No joke.
Unless it is part of a sophisticated nav system, it is a mechanical device. They calculate how many rotations of the wheel equal what speed and it can vary drastically according to whether you have the same exact wheels and tires that came on the car to how much air is in them and how well they are aligned. The precision of a calibrated GPS beats them hands down.

WTH is the deal? Here is what I get clicking on that very same link:

Maybe it is the link and the fact I am in the US?

Can't see the details easily, but the US Play store has no such app. That sucks pretty hard.
I found the download of an Alpha version in XDA's downloads, is that what you have - an Alpha?

I can't install that app, but I tried an app called droid FM Radio Lite which checks to see if you have FM hardware and my phone doesn't. I've got a N910W8 (Canadian model)

I strongly doubt that. Are you absolutely certain it's not via Internet? If it works without the headphones, it most certainly is NOT FM.
Well, your wrong. It has FM radio... And how am i sure? It required headphones, and the static that was caused when i moved around the headphone wire which is an antenna...

Interesting, I had no idea there is a Note 4 with FM radio. Pity I don't have one :silly:
I installed NextRadio on the Verizon version and it says no FM Receiver as soon as you open it. So not only does Sprint come with free headphones, but also an FM Receiver.
Does anyone know if TMobile has one?

Is this hardware or software issue?
I'm really curious to know whether the Note 4 CAN have fm radio (like the Sprint version) but it is disabled in software, or do the other versions of the phone not have the hardware capability?
I have the 910U, and I would love to have FM radio on mine. No data, listen to news, get emergency broadcasts etc.

A VERY good point. I've been dying to know that too. My Note 4 model is SM-910F, carrier: Orange, Romania.
Droid lite app says there's no FM capability on my device, but still: is it only software-disabled by Samsung (and thus we can root etc. and get FM), or is it hardware disabled (physical pins grounded in the chip --> nothing we can do, other than soldering or buying fm headphones)
What were Samsung thinking?
Anybody can put the next radio apk? It is not available on the store in my country (Argentina).
