I have updated my I9505 according to this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/general/guide-how-to-install-custom-roms-t2852310), using ROM I9505VJUFNB2_I9505ZTOFNB3_I9505VJUFNB2_HOME.tar.md5
Everything was ok, but then I found this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2862768) that teaches how to root kitkat without tripping knox. Then I decided to do it. When looking for the Kernel for the specific version, I did not find the kernel for the FNB2 version and I also realized that there were newer versions of the ZTO variant (Brasil) for I9505. Then I decided to install version GNH2, to which I found the needed stock kernel.
But unfortunately I found out that version GNH2 is not stable; I have it installed since one week ago and the phone resets alone several times a day since then. Now I tried to go back to the stable version FNB2, but I receive the message saying that process "android.media.process" has stopped. And when I hit OK, the message turns off for one second and appears again, making the use of the phone virtually impossible. Now, I am downloading version GNI2_ZTO, hoping that this can be corrected, but I need to find stock kernel for GNI2 in order to try to root it again
Where could I find it, please?

Excuse my ignorance but this is the first device I have rooted, installed twrp (find it easier than cwm) and installed a custom rom. I successfully rooted days ago and decided to see what all the hype about the omega rom was about. I installed v10 for my gt19505 s4. It worked perfectly (after I installed the wifi fix) and I absolutely love the rom. Then a new release v11 came out a couple of days later. Now I was sceptical about flashing this new version because it says it is based on firmware ZHUMDH6. Now this is where my inexperience shows. I installed v10 because it was based on firmware XXUBMH1. When I type the code *#1234# into my phone this is what it states I have. I thought that had to be the file I downloaded to exactly match my phone. Than I went on to read comments by people stating they installed v9 then v10 and so on, so I started thinking maybe they are all for the gt19505 and just BASED on the firmware and not a requirement for your phone to match that firmware.
Is this correct?? As I stated it is working well (occasional pause and stutter at first but nothing that a reboot didn't fix- and wifi is working without the fix) So do I need to match the roms exactly to what that code stated (*#1234#) or just my model - ie gt-19505 international
Hope this makes sense
its completely irrelevant - a firmware code is just a code given to that release (all done in order by samsung, letters, numbers)
I seriously suggest you spend some time reading/educating yourself - if you have to ask questions like this on a developer forum, flashing custom roms may not be for you
Plus, this belongs in q&a
Hi Guys,
semi-noob here. I have a galaxy s4 (sprint) model sph-l720 that I have activated on Boost Mobile carrier. I got it used and it works fine. I was very unhappy with battery life. I saw a way to convert s4 to s5 by flashing customer rom and thereby getting the ultra power saving mode. I followed the guide but since I'm new I can't post the URL the ROM is echoe rom v29 s5 port part v
kernal 3.4.101-v5.1
I could not root it using there method and even though twrp installed it would not initialize. I found an autoroot file that I installed with ODIN and it worked, phone was rooted. then I installed ROM manager from the play store and installed CM Recovery. that worked. then I installed the echoe ROM from that page. it all worked but now some things are not working. getting xposed not activated messages, mobile data shows a connection but I can't access the network. some other things now wokring either. it also changed my model number to GT-I9505, which I thought was weird...should I be concerned about that? . also it's android 4.4.2 and it might be better to have 5? . So, after all that, my question is to recommend a ROM that is newer but still have the power saving mode, that hopefully fixes the things that are not working. my main concern is battery life and performance. I don't care about things like themes. I hope that makes sense and I appreciate any help. Thanks
Yeah you got a long way to go.
You cannot and should not flash roms from other devices to your device. Unless it's stated that it will also work on your device. You also should not follow guides on those wannabe tech blogs unless it on XDA. If the guide is a Youtube video, then skip it. All those guides suck and are usually incomplete or outdated. For example you flashed a v29 version. When I look on the website of echoerom their latest version is v58.... And besides that there isn't even an sph-l720 version available.
Bottomline:
You flashed an outdated recovery, you flashed an highly outdated rom that's for the I9505 and not for your phone. No worries, you didn't brake anything.
This is the section for your phone.

1. Use TWRP instead of CWM. CWM is outdated and should not be used for our phone anymore.
Hi guys,
I was given a phone to use after I broke my own phone, but the problem is that its SIM locked to Vodafone IE.
When I got the phone, it was on 4.3. After following the SIM unlock guides, I kept running into problems because some menu items are missing. Specifically "[3]PERSO SHA256 OFF".
I did some Googling and saw a mention of the fact that the newer modem in 4.3 has these options removed. So this led me to try downgrade the ROM. The first thing I did here was TWRP/root/custom ROM, thinking that there might be some added options in a custom ROM. However, the ROM i Chose (Albe95 LolliROM) uses the hard menu button to display running tasks, so I couldnt perform the steps in the SIM Unlock guide. Then I tried other ROMs and an old CyanogenMod 4.2.2 ROM, but I didnt have any success. After more research, I found that the biggest mistake people make is not downgrading the modem. Now, I thought this wasn't possible once you go above a certain level, eg 4.3.
After more Googling, I found a link to an old modem, but the link gave me a 404!
I spent a lot of time on this, and just want the SIM unlocked, so figured I'd just ask the experts here.
So, can anyone just link me to the correct modem version for 4.2.2 and maybe a ROM that is compatible with the guide I linked earlier?
Once unlocked, I'll flash a new ROM so I'm on Lollipop again.
Thanks.
If the 9505 is like the 337m, the free unlock method only works when running a stock Samsung dialler. CM and aosp ROMs do not use a Samsung dialler so don't bother using a custom rom to try and sim unlock the phone. If you buy an unlock code, you will need to be running a stock Samsung dialler in order to enter the unlock code.

You need to read the last pages of that thread. All you need to do is in there.
1. Be on a stock rom.
2. Downgrade modem.
3. Unlock sim.
4. Upgrade modem.
OK Thanks,
I managed to unlock!
I installed a stock ROM, downgraded modem to XXUAME2, did the unlock steps, and it worked fine.
I've flashed a custom ROM now and updated the modem to the latest so its all good now!
Cheers.
Hi All,
I currently have a Note 4 910G that is still 5.1.1 with no OTA updates available.
I have been having dramas with my phone rebooting sometimes every 2 minutes, laggy and generally unresponsive.
I have backed up the phone the best I can as its stock and not rooted. However I was going to factory reset to see if it fixed the issues I am having. I have decided that root and flash may be a better option though as back up is horrible on android and also some added features would be handy (titanium back up and tasker).
My question is I am not 100% across what exact files to use as everything I find is for a different version. I found the CF auto root application, however, I am nervous that the kernel that is listed on their website is based on 6.0.1. I am finding it hard to find the 5.1.1 N910G Kernel to use instead
Will this cause an issue or does someone have the 5.1.1 kernel I can grab prior to flashing.
I hope this makes sense and any help would be much appreciated. Sorry if this has been covered, I have been searching around for a while and couldn't find this specific enquiry.
Hi everyone,
just a long-time forum-lurker in the dark here, now I'm here asking for help to restore my galaxy s4.
Here's the story:
gt-i9505 no brand, italian official firmware 4.4.4 (kitkat), never updated, only used towelroot to gain rood adn unistall couple of unused apps.
everything worked fine
Then i decided to upgrade to lollipop.
downloaded last samsung lollipop rom for my phone from sammobile, made a full backup via TWRP Recovery, and installed lollipop via Odin.
Then the nightmare begun :
1st problem, no modem, no connection, only wifi, i restored EFS, still not working, reinstalled modem via odin and then i got my imei and connection again.
2) think i've tried to change the rom to a custom downloaded here (i don't even remember the name), then i tried couple other roms.
this as far as i remember
Now the phone has a samsung original lollipop rom, wifi won't turn on, data not working, knox status is obviously altered (so i cannot restore it via kies or whatever the software name is now) BUT It overheats a lot after few minutes and i'm forced to shut it off to not damage it.
I'd like to restore it to a full working condition, i think i've messed up with bootloaders, modems and roms from different android versions.
can anyone help ?

Hey, @dokrobei
Take a look on my Guide.
You need the guide clean install from the scratch. Please read it carefully till the end. There avaible links with all necessary stuff like modem/bootloaders/stock rom-firmware/recommend customs roms etc.
Hi @Retrial, thanks for the answer..
I've managed to reinstall stock KitKat 4.4.2 and working modem drivers, following another tutorial here. Now Wi-Fi, 3g and bt works fine, BUT the phone overheats a lot. It's not a battery problem and sure it's software related 'cause it wasn't like this before my stupid first attempt to upgrade to lollipop.
I've searched the forum for the overtheating near the flash zone problem, some say that is a microsd problem (wich I removed), some other that's a battery problem (wich is not in my case).
Do you think I should start from scratch again following your guide? IHow do I know wich modem / bootloader is right for my phone? I think the problem is there, maybe wrong modem version..

First of all there is no need to still be on KitKat...a lot of apps don't support Kitkat nowdays...and is outdated.
I will recommend first to proper upgrade to Lollipop stock and then use some of the latest android Pie Custom JDC Roms by following my complete guide. As I said above there is a full guide with links and very well explained steps. The latest Firmware for our S4 i9505 is QK1 - No matter which country you will choose, and it's recommened to have the latest. Just read it carefully till the end and check the asterisks.
The overheating it may be no compatible Modem/Bootloader since you messed up with Lollipop. To check what Modem and Bootloder you can simply install "Device HW Info" or "Phone Info" app and check.
Let me know how it goes, and if you have any question or problem feel free to ask. Good Luck :fingers-crossed:

After every flash the device become hot. Let the rom settle for a while.
If you have PK2 Firmware then you need PK2 Modem and Bootloader. So no, don't try other modem/bootloader.

I flashed it last night and checked if it was working this morning. I'm sure the high temps are not related to the usage or to the battery. It become hot eachtime i turn on wifi. Havent tried with data but I think it will be the same thing.
