Android 5.0 Lollipop by the end of 2014 - G3 General

It seems we are lucky. The G3 will get the 5.0 lollipop update by the end of the year:
http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_g3_to_re...ipop_update_by_the_end_of_2014-news-10031.php

Well probably from my experience with the G2 in regards to kitkat the Korean G3 will get it first, then some international variants, then U.S. I would guess the U.S. would probably get it in Feb or March.

Thanks for the great news :laugh::laugh:

Great news !

Wow. That's amazing. Google should do this with every release of android. Give them a base before official release so when its official we don't have to wait forever for updates
Sent from my LG-D851 using Tapatalk

I think that's why google did it. They've also been gradually giving more access to the manufacturers earlier in return for less bloat and skinning of stock android.

I think that is the main reason lg idnt really jumping to 4.4.4. It would really be a waste of time and would simply delay the 5.0 update even further. Sure we wait longer for the patch but at least we get the latest in term of software instead of sitting on 4.4.4 even longer

Just a thought, will this affect bump or the bootloader?

I think that is something no onr can answer yet. I personally do believe lg will fix the exploit. So better to root and wait for a 5.0 rom

That's what I thought

If you want to keep ur unlocked bootloader as well as root, then don't take any new LG updates. It is very likely that both will be lost on the next software iteration.

Don't keep your hopes up

I had to incrementally update my LG G3 400k from Version 10g to F400k10t .. The last update in Korea was about 130MB.. not much of a difference but I also managed to root with PurpleDrake.. Easy as 123
I forgot to mention that the speed is awesome , after the update

verizon customers will get their Android 5.0 Lollipop April of 2015 at the very earliest. LG G4 might be released before the update for LG G3.
everyone else will get it first
just my personal experience with Verizon HTC Thunderbolt, Nexus, S3, Note 2, LG G2.

It would be amazing if we get it before 2015, custom ROM development is going slow.

Ported, yea for sure, only problem is that I assume the port would have to come from a 4k device, right?
Why ported ?? It's LG main phone - why should they do not upgrade it to 5.0 ?
BTW it's QHD not 4k ;p
EDIT:
As I've read - even G2 has confirmed to Android L update - in fact it's little strange I am not so sure for that, but G3 should be first to get L/5.0 from LG

I guess because it takes other flagship devices a little while to get the newest Android versions, even when it does, it will be LG's 5.0 NOT Google 5.0. The straight up Google experience is reserved for Google phones or special cases where Google has GE versions of flagships (S4 and M7).

Yes of course. I don't saying that G3 will get 5.0 at the they when google will release Android 5.0 - of course LG need some time to make it fit to G3 and recode it launcher etc. It's obvious. I just though, You're saying that G3 will never get 5.0 from LG
BTW LG said that G2 will get 5.0 at the beggining of the 2015 so G3 should get it at the end of 2014...
Not through Verizon, unfortunately. If Verizon ever allows L to be released to their (not your, from their perspective) LG G3's it will probably be next summer, all known root and bootloader exploits patched, and it will be buggy and laggy. The idea will be to get you to buy another expensive phone from them, like maybe an iPhone 6+. This is how Verizon manages to barely stay profitable with all the network investments they are constantly making...by screwing their customers every way they can figure out how to.
But...unlimited data...

How long usually it takes Samsung to adopt the new Android version?

Knowing Samsung it might not be till end of summer 2015 (if you are lucky).

There have already been two preview builds for the S5, both shown by Sammobile on YouTube. Which means they are working on it and they're almost there. I would expect an update closer to the end of the year or at the beginning of the next.

Enough proof for you?
I am pretty confident/optimistic that we will have the update during Nov-Dec, 1-2 months from now
So far we have seen 2 leaks of Lollipop for S5, 1 leak of S4, so imagine at what level the newest flagship of Samsung is
Even more, all companies are promoting fiercely their update plans, so Samsung should be at least worried and thus speed up their game.
Lastly, last year we had the same case as with Note 3, it was released with 4.3 Jellybean and it received the 4.4 Kitkat update in early January.
The best news relateed to this is that Chainfire was able to root Lollipop on the Nexus 9. It is encouraging that if you have an unlocked bootloader, it seems likely that there will be root for Android 5.

According to this article it's late November early December.

But I wouldn't hold my breath.
As I mentioned, don't expect anything before a few months. I estimate q2 2015 but this article seems to say February 2015

Are you joking? There are builds for the S5 and the S4, the latter being almost 2 years old now! There is no way the the Note 4 will get an update in "Q2 2015". And the article you linked to has no substantial evidence or insight. On the other hand, we know Note 3 was released with 4.3 and got an update to 4.4 in January, so it's not far fetched to think the Note 4 will be treated the same way.

I hope you are right, but I highly doubt we will get it before end of Q1-2015. Yes there are builds for many phones, but Samsung tends to take their sweet time coming up with a final draft. I suffered plenty with the Note 2 and Note 3 (still on 4.4.2 until now). Maybe the fact that almost every manufacturer other than samsung will have Lollipop before end of the month might make Samsung move faster (but I doubt it, because they know that most of their end users aren't on XDA and don't know lollipop from lollygag).
What's really funny -and to be frank, quite sad- is how we use words like "suffer" when we explain how we feel about waiting for an update. It's a phone. Save your capacity to suffer for things that actually matter.
Maybe Samsung will see this and we'll get the update this week........or in Q4 15[emoji13]

Well it looks like Sony's just getting started on 5.0.
They're still sorting out bugs and issues with 4.4.4.
Software development is Sony's most notable weak point. They take way too long to get their kit out. Nothing new there.
Pretty impressive from LG but considering they launched their full software suit months ago with the G3, all they have to do is update the core android platform. Same story with Samsung and HTC but Sony launched its complete software for this year in September and are still polishing it up. Android L is still months away unfortunately!

That's all we want. We must get Android 6 as soon as Google release it. There were 3 preview builds so what do really do LG software department anyway. They get money like US gets oil from middle east(lol), so what are they doing with all that money? Hire talented developers and make updates rain.
If Nexus devices had enough battery like 3000, i wouldn't lick LG's backpack for updates anyway.

to be honest I never liked LG's software development. I always believed in developers here on XDA. In my opinion LG is making powerful hardware, this is why I will stick to LG int he future, but they not tailor the OS perfectly to the device. I always liked more Stock modded softwares.
Is there any release date for 6.0 in general? Or that last dev/preview build is like RTM for Windows?
We won`t get anything this year guys. Lets be realistic. Google said M will be ready "later this fall". So we can expect it maybe in October. LG G4 will be first with the update, rolling out in December just as
G3s last years Lollipop update. I am guessing for Q1 2016 (earliest) if we get the update at all
I bet we won't get any official bootloader unlock, nor android marshmallow before january '16.
I have decided to go back to Nexus next time. Not for the latest shiny widget but to ensure I get security updates ASAP and not 1 year after my phone has retired.
I like my LG G3 but that I have to live with well documented and exploited security holes for almost a year is ridiculous.
In this case I suspect it is as much LGs fault as it also would be my carriers who insists on retesting everything for x weeks.
Nexus 5 or 6 2015 edition, bring it on

Usually flagships get 2 major Android releases. I think G4 will get N but it will be the last major update and it will come after G5/V10 get theirs. There is always the possibility that LG will change plans. Unless LG mke an official announcement of the phones getting N we will never know.
Agreed. It will probably come - but I think it won't come soon.
Hopefully they give us X.X.1 instead of X.0.0 like Android M ):
We will get N for sure... It's just a matter of when..... 99% sure we won't get it in 2016.... Q1 or Q2 of 2017 most likely.......
keep in mind that N is coming a few months earlier than usual... end of the year is more likely, depends on version/location...
and btw I don't think V10 will get it before G4
How about unlocking bootloader instead... LG has abandoned us G4 users.
