Got my new Note 4 on my doorstep. From a technical standpoint, the phone is nice. Pretty fast, nice screen. But I feel let down. I really hate the stock ROM. Running Nova helps. It makes it bearable. I really thought I would like the bigger screen. But the problem is everything is just enlarged. You don't actually have more screen real estate. I have had my GS4 running Cyanogen for quite a while now and I like it. On my new Note 4 I feel very disappointed. If there isn't a root in the next few days I may return it to the store and stick with my GS4.
There won't be a way to root for a long time or ever for that matter....sorry to burst your bubble. I would suggest doing your homework before buying a device for modding. The latest is no longer the greatest from that standpoint. That being said if you want root and do not care about future updates or warranty, the Developer Edition N4 will be out soon . the downfall is you must purchase it outright and there will not be much support for it. However it is unlocked and rootable.
I thought I could get used to it. After all TouchWiz has come a long way. Many people like it. The root for all the other carriers is out. And the talk is that once the stock recoveries are posted Chainfire will be able to get it part of CF-Auto-Root.

That "talk" is wrong. cf-root works by flashing a modded recovery and installing supersu via custom scripts made by chainfire for his own personal stuff. since you guys have a locked bootloader that means you wont be flashing any recovery/boot partitions.
plus factor in L's new security and if you guys dont get root before the ota rolls out you may never get it.

whats "L's" because the N4 is KK if that refers to Lollipop.
i cant tell you how many times i have had a phone that gets the dreaded "you wont see root for a long time if ever" and then within weeks (tops) we have root.
i would be willing to wager that before Dec and probably earlier there will be root for this N4

I didnt say you wouldnt ever get root, just that when it finally gets updated to L you can kiss all chances of getting root then goodbye. i imagine someone has an exploit they are waiting to drop and see if its patched in 5.0 whether or not it becomes public is entirely up to them at that point. as it stands that is your best shot at a 4.4 root.
i dont know what OP is talking about i have 100s of apps on this thing and still flying like butta!!!

Towel root will not work. The app itself says the note 4 isnt a capable device. Maybe geohot just has to include it, but i wouldnt get your hopes up
There well be a root method within the next week or so. The bootloader will never be unlocked on this phone. Hashtag was the safestrap guru. If someone picked up the reins from him, then we'll likely get a way to flash roms and recovery. Personally, all I want is root to take some of this crap off the phone. I'm done with flashing ROMs.

I tried it, no go. Luckily it tells you that the phone isn't supported instead of just screwing it up.
I'm going to take the 12 days I have left to pray for root if not I'm going to see what I can do with a Bluetooth stylus and a nexus 6. I'm upgrading from a note 2 running Aosp Roms. I had the phone for less then an hour before it was rooted and unlocked I ran beans Roms at first but my need to be on the newest version of Android and dislike of touchwiz I found aosp Roms with apps like GMD spen control great. Currently with the N4 I miss the custom gestures to open evernote and ime switch

I like your optimism, but look at what happened to the S5 when it arrived. Took a lot more than the 2 week return window to achieve root. I'm still hedging between this phone and the Xperia, but seems like either way root will not be there quickly.

I agree, it's not terrible and not nearly as laggy as early phones were. I still use Apex so I can use icon and theme packs and make better use of screen size. All in all, if root never came, I'd be content enough to deal... it would be nice for Adaway, Titanium and Xposed though. I'll put my money down soon and see. I'm betting we get root sooner than later.
If root, or more importantly, flashing roms is that important to the OP, then why don't you go with t-mobile? Their Note 4 has an unlocked bootloader. Like another said, do your homework beforehand.

Hi guys! I got my Samsung galaxy s4 first day of release and I really like it, I had an iPhone before and I jailbroke it because it made it so much better, but the question is, is rooting just as good as jailbreaking? Should I root my galaxy s4? It can sometimes be a bit laggy on the home screen and was wondering if a custom rom would fix it?

You don't need to root it, its already good enough and if the small lag bothers you, have you tried other launchers such as Nova launcher? It's almost lag free.
But if you want the best experience from your S4 then yes root it, try CF auto root, but remember you lose warranty and anything can go wrong, so try to follow instructions properly and always backup your important data.

Yes its very easy to un-root, you can always flash a stock rom via Odin, and some custom rom have an option to unroot your phone.

Rooting all depends on your usage.
The benefits being custom roms, but again it all depends if you want to keep flashing and ensuring you always maximize the phone to its full potential.

If you don't know exact reason why you want to root your phone then rooting just for rooting makes no sense. Root access by itself won't make your device any better. Also try to remember that there are many guys here that blow their phones by messing with them.
I've rooted my old sgs2 after few months and used it that way. After some time the only thing I needed root for was the possibility to move apps data to sdcard.
My sgs4 is not rooted for now because I don't need it. Playing with mods or "removing bloatware" is total nonsense to me as I prefer stable device. Also flashing custom roms is nor for me. So widely spoken app Titanium Backup I've used maybe twice in a year, the same I can say about clockwork mod. Just have no time to mess and repair all the time because I need working device as it helps me a lot in my work as smartphone and assistant, not as subject to experiments.
Guy from that video nicely explained what is root for and all of this is definitely true (part about security can be controversial because rooting and installing su does not patch security hole and permission prompt appear only when root access is achieved by su not by security hole), but for me in everyday use it turned to be as useful as towel for a fish.
Android by itself is very good in terms of functionality and far from being restricted in a apple way. You cannot compare root to jailbreak because jb on iphone is needed to get some basic functions. Android has all of this out of the box.
Remember also that rooted phone looses OTA upgrade possibility.
Everything depends on how you use your phone - there is the answer to your question
I am the complete opposite. If I have a device running an os, whether it be a computer, smartphone or whatever, I want full control of the device and it's os as it should be. I want full axx, full power of it.
edit: forgot why I came here in the first place, to the OP, glad you liked the vid and also glad my post wasn't wasted space like the majority of posts I see on here all the time, take it easy.
Rooting all depends on your need while using s4
If you're asking yourself that question then no, you shouldn't root it.
How's it going? I am upgrading to the S4 coming from the e4gt on Thursday. I've flashed just about everything there is for the e4gt, but would like to know what is recommended for starting out with this phone. What recovery do you recommend? I've downloaded the cf autoroot which I plan on using, and also the cwm jfltespr 6.0.3.6. Is this the best route for getting started? Thanks in advance.
Welcome over bt.
If you're going to stay on 4.2 then TWRP 2..5.0.2 has proven best for me and most others. TWRP-Recovery-jfltespr-2.5.0.2
If you're going to jump in to 4.3 (and I suspect you will) then use Philz CWM based recovery. philz_touch_5.18.2-jfltespr.tar
Just know that if you take the OTA or Odin 4.3 there is NO going back to 4.2 because of the Knox bootloader.
You can however run 4.3 on 4.2 firmware (non Knox tripped bootloader).
Many of the usual Sammy stuff caveats are the same. biggest difference is that Kernels are seperated from Recoveries. Making it easy to mix and match.
Flashing is a breeze, developers here are great - many came from the e4gt and S3. Same with the contributors and others.
Take some time to read through the posts and you'll soon get a good handle on it.
Have fun!
Hey, i remember you. It's great to see you here. How do I avoid the ota? Can I freeze system updates in tb or for toolbox? Also, what rom do you recommend that I try first? I was looking at the carbon rom, but will try 4.2 first because it looks like they have the save data issues on 4.3 like the e4gt. I will miss all the guys on project x.

If you install a custom recovery and kernel you won't be able to take the OTA - it may download but shouldn't install. I use TB to freeze Sprint Installer and Sprint Zone. Sprint Installer is a really sneaky app - it goes out and grabs all their crapware and just loads it up!.
I'd recommend Any of the 4.2 ROMs if you'd like to mess around - Sac, Unknownforce, Negamann's and of course rujelus22's.
For 4.3 I'd say give those guys a go too; just be sure to do it without tripping the Knox counter - using custom recovery and flashing ROM that has the knox bootloader removed.
For CM/AOSP type there are some pretty good ones too.Carbon, Sniper and Garwynn have some builds up. I like to try them but I'm a TW guy - I have to have everything working flawlessly for business so even small things like no 4G, no sms or the like make using them for my daily driver still out of the question for now.

as @BIGSAMDA1ST said, there is that possibility. Really depends on the supplier and how deep their inventory is.
If is on 4.2, after initial setup it will surely try and update to 4.3 if you let it - I wouldn't. But that's just me. I'd keep it 4.2 and go the 'non-knox' route to 4.3.

Welcome!
I just got mine on Monday Pre Balck Friday Sale, been on E4GT bricked 3, 4th the power button broke and the E4GT was BO so the bumped me to GS3 was rooted running Cyan 11 4.4 kitkat, PA Gapps, Xposed 128 DPI then the Pre Sale .96 cent's upgraded to this GS4. Monday got it and a hour later the 4.3 OTA was pushed to the phone.
I do have to say this is a Big Learning Curve because a lot of the customization i was used to do on my phone is already stock on this phone.
Been researching trying to figure what exactly to do but also been running tests to see what improvements Sprint and or the phone has made for me. I agree with Leaderbuilder " I have to have everything working flawlessly for business so even small things like no 4G, no sms or the like make using them for my daily driver still out of the question for now".
Everything has seemed to be running great my wife upgraded from Galaxy S "GB" love ginger just not as a OP. Spending a lot of time finding how things work for her and have yet to set my phone up or let it settle in. I say all this to say "what I've read" in all different posts is there is possibly 1 stable 4.4 rom and just now trying to compare the benefit for me rooting. I know removing bloatware but it doesn't seem to be messing the phone up like it did on E4GT, battery life? What I've seen this is pretty good. So take your time get your phone and get used to it I think those of us who came from E4GT was used to having a "fairly good" phone and rooting to make it better however this seems to be at a different level.
I just moved from the Epic 4G to an S4. Still really missing my slide-out keyboard...
I bought my S4 a week ago and it came with 4.2.2. I had NO clue about the Knox BS, and doing a quick Google for 4.3 issues did not bring it up, so I took the OTA update. BIG mistake... Especially since I need to root to run ARLiberator.
Thankfully, my Sprint dealer is great, and after finding they could not roll it back, gave me a direct exchange to a new S4 with 4.2.2. If they would not have done that, I would have exchanged it for a white one to get back to 4.2.2.
Sooo, to sum it up, as of yesterday, it was possible to still get an S4 with 4.2.2 without Knox on it.

Chalk it up to me being an old 48 gray haired (although consider myself pretty good searcher) What exactly is Knox and why/not want or want it?What is the issue with taking the OTA update? Layman's terms? My sprint store has really cool tech's but they know nothing about rooting and all different issues. Always like playing with my phone for a bit and never get pissed if I get an issue they can't resolve.
Should I not have done the OTA update? I'm trying to determine if I actually want to root or not because things have seemed good so far.
Main 4.4 item i wanted was "OK Google" but I've got that on my stock phone, sure 128 dpi would be great but if it really worth it for me? I'm still out to lunch on that one.

The OTA update installs the Knox boot loader which cannot be rolled back. Once on it, you are on it for good, at least at present.
Knox adds a tattle-tale, so that if you root in the conventional, "fully rooted" manner, install a custom recovery, rom, or kernel, it will trip a flag, titled "Knox Warranty Void" which cannot, at present, be reset. which also breaks certain functionality in the phone. If you don't care about tripping this flag, it looks like you can still mod your phone as before.
There is a way to partially root in spite of Knox, without tripping the flag, but this method may open your phone up in ways you don't want to do. This is still under investigation.
Personally, I did not want a non-resetable flag telling Sprint/Samsung that I had modded my phone... That in itself was enough to make me return the phone.
Thank you for explaining now you have given me more to think about. Why do they care since warranties still cover rooting? Also makes me have something else to add to the puzzle do I root or not. Most things I was rooting for are now stock so I will continue to think about now knowing about the Knox.

Well the knox bootloader is big if you are worried about warranty issus and if may need to run 4.2 ROMs.
If you don't think you ever will have either of those situations then that shouldn't matter.
Knox also does have some cool stuff for the corporate world - high security container for applications etc. It's essentially a secure 'sandbox'. I think you'll find many more corps. insisting on an using it. I know my brothers company gave him an S4 with knox for just that reason - secure email/CRM container and connection. This guy had the need too.
But for me I really am pissed that, if needed, I could not set my device to factory original.
Just one more thing an entity will use to keep from supporting a hardware problem they should own by blaming me.
I've had phones with bad radios (GPS part) that needed warranty replacement and one time was told no because I had a custom ROM and the problem was my ROM or my fault for 'destroying' the chip. I promplty went back around the corner flashed a stock .tar and walked back in and proved it to be the hardware.
All that being said this is so far the best phone I've had. And the developers and support folks here are great.
Welcom over y'all and have some fun.
Just got mine and I guess while I was looking foe a case they pushed the update while setting up my s4.
Any advice on what to do?
Depending on the inventory your new one may come with MF9. If so you can just use cf-autoroot to root install a custom recovery and go from there. There is a thread on how to update that firmware (modem and radio) without tripping the knox counter.
To keep it from updating don't take any 'Sprint Firmware updates' during install. You can root right away and then use Titanium to freez the sprint installer and sprint zone to keep the update at bay.
If it comes with MJA you can still root and then install custom recovery. You will just not be able to run a 4.2 ROM stock (using Odin).
Yeah thats the issue part says dont care othet says dont need security issue but its nice to be safe amd secure. Bricked 3 E4GT andb4th power button broke but all covered by insurance when they upgraded me to GS3 and then I needed a new phone and got the Gs4.
My 3 was running Cyan 11 w/4.4 kitkat and Xposed 128 dpi. I have almost everything I was used to with root with this stock except the 128 dpi so Im trying to figure if I just need to play it safe for a while or not.
I'm irritated by the play store every time I try to install with it pulling 1 of 3 error codes ever since upgraded to 4.3 so part of me wants to just root to 4.4 since I know how it runs but Ive only found 1 stable 4.4 available and not too familiar of roms since my experience is from E4GT and Gs3 days.
My first thoughts are if I know I may have issues and create more issues with my phone with Knox then why even bother?
Last clarification if I root Knox then acts like the old odin counter and or it also will keep me from flashing unroot back to stock? Kinda if can't reboot back to stock then if I softbrick and need help im on my own where as in past I still got help from sprint tech support and insurance because they couldn't prove I rooted an csused the issue.
Knox makes it permanent like water damage sticker with iOs?

I was all over it, made sure they didn't push the update. I now have it frozen, and I flashed beanstalk. It's running great so far. It seems though that none of the nice features that come with this phone are on this ROM. Next I will look to flash another kernel and then comadose. BTW, the recovery I installed B is Philz. It appears that if you want to use some of the nice stock options, probably need flash a TW ROM.

Worked great for me, installed the Kernel with the fixed IR blaster and I have root.
Since XPosed doesn't work though, I don't quite know what fun things I can do with root. I used to love tweaking things with XPosed, eliminated the need for a custom ROM for minor stuff but with 5.1.1 I haven't found much to do with root yet.
Oh I was able to use titanium to backup my apps, that was exciting
I might just sell the Tab 4 and get a Nexus instead, at least I can get the latest Android quickly with that.

I tried and worked my ass off to attempt to produce a Deodexed version of this rom.. Deodexing is easy, but packaging the rom and with a proper Update Script is something that is at this time beyond my skill set.. I have been working in Ubuntu using ArchiKitchen and had some success, but It won't boot.. So I decided to give my tablet to a friend to use for a while.. I went back to my Trusty Nexus 7 to which is super easy to develop for.. Everyone has quit the T330NU as far as I know, and I just don't have the patients or the time.. Everyone is going back to school this fall and THEY don't have the time.. There will no more development for this device unless some new blood comes into the picture.. My suggestion, sell your tablet on Ebay and buy a Nexus 9..
Edit: My suggestion, Use ODIN to flash the Stock 4.4.2 and use the Chainfire Autoroot.. There is a old Stock rom floating around called Stocked.. I suggest using that.. Its the best we have.. The best we will ever have..

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I was actually looking at how much I can have for it and use that money to partly pay for a Nexus 9. I was already saving up for one but someone gave me the T330NU for free so I could not say no of course. I did not expect that there would be almost nothing for it on XDA.
I'll take a look at that "Stocked" ROM. It's downloading right now. It'll be that or pure stock 5.1.1 without root since there isn't much to do with root on that version anyways.

To flash stock, you need to Flash the official Samsung 4.4.2 firmware first through ODIN, flash recovery and flash Chainfire's Autoroot..
Then you can flash Stocked.. Its pretty decent, but the guy who developed it.. up and quit.. Seems like a common thing for this device..
It's cursed.. From here on in.. I will NEVER purchase another Samsung device again.. Either HTC or LG.. Never Samsung..

I'm trying to download the stock 4.4.2 firmware but all I'm getting are those free/premium download sites where either doesn't download or downloads at 10k per second. I'll find it though and I'm putting the tablet in the classifieds as I do that

The Auto-Root doesn't install, phil's recovery just unpacks the file and says installation aborted.
I tried to install TWRP via ODIN but it doesn't work, when I boot to recovery all I get is a black screen.
EDIT : Never mind, got TWRP to work now.
EDIT 2 : CF-AR is ODIN flashable... DUh!
DONT FLASH THE ZIP!! Unzip it, and flash the .TAR.MD5, in ODIN..

Everything worked and I even forgot how fast applications install on Dalvik. Definitely more options for Xposed so some satisfaction in having root!
I'll still try to sell it for 250$ with the 64GB memory car I have for it. Won't pay for a Nexus 9 but will cover most of it. I love that the N9 is made by HTC, definitely my brand, I just wish it was smaller. Love the format of the N7 except for the wide bezel.
Well I got lucky last night, maybe a week or 2 so I will have a Stock Deodexed LP ROM coming..
Not to get your hopes up.. I got lucky last nite with the update script.. Step by step.. Right now its just a recompiled rom from the TAR to Zip..
I will work on Deodexing, then debloating, making one full install, and one lite.. That will be Deknoxed.. Edit, Rooted as well..
Edit: I still have a ways to go..

Right now I have 3 versions that I'm working on, but since I'm not at my Desktop and away from home, even though its just on the other side of town.. Ill be back monday.. I have all 3 versions ready to test.. Since I'm not home I can't test them.. They will be ready when I'm sure I got everything.. Once released I will then in time make add ons .
I'm currently running and testing the Stock, Deodexed only for the moment.. I will be using Moonbutt74's Kernel, or just make it a flashable addon.. I havent decided.. I don't like the idea of taking someone elses work and injecting it into mine.. I'm on vacation so Ill be busy for a few days.. I have one glitch that didn't come out well during the Deodexing process.. Google drive was popping up and force closing.. So I had to uninstall it.. So I might just add that to the debloat list.. Once I'm confident this is all good.. I'll create my own thread.. I'm temped to send a teaser, but I want to bring it out knowing it works as good as it should..

That's a lot of progress, very encouraging. I put my T330NU for sale, trying to get 250$ for it but I might not get more than 200 which is fine, it'll cover the cost for a Nexus 7

I still use my Nexus 7 2013 with a always fresh copy of Blisspop.. I will hold on to that tablet until it croaks..
I use it mainly as a Internet Diagnostic tool..
... Ive had my G4 for some time now on stock MM but was encountering some minor heat issues, i decided to book up the courage to downgrade and root.
Now, im not the most experianced in rooting, i useually count on programs that do it for me, ive never pushed, injected, fake OTA etc. Before. Yes i was scared.
I finally did it all sucessfully yesterday but the only problem is, i feel abit dirty.. Thats the only way i can explain it!
Its strange, i enjoyed stock but i love root access.
Anybody else had this feeling, with any of their phones?
Btw, im now on H815 SEA (Singapore) LP
Yep it's normal, you're gonna learn to love the feeling and you soon could not live without it.
You see, now "TheRoot has you" and there's no escape. Soon you'll be diagnose with ORD (http://www.xda-developers.com/do-you-have-obsessive-rom-updating-disorder-ord/) and you're gonna try and root every device you see.
Welcome to the club
Haha, don't get me wrong I've been rooting for years but I did really enjoy being on stock. Once I get more organised I should feel a bit better.

I did the same thing yesterday. The phone is so much better now. I never used any feature of M anyway. I even installed xposed framework, only did 2-3 things to improve my usage.

You don't need an unlocked bootloader to install Xposed.
Isn't it quite risky though? I am a noob at this stuff. I'm quite impressed I'm able to use my phone after pushing a rooted image onto my phone

I did not read anywhere that it was risky. My first time doing it with flash fire 0.24.
I have a locked bootloader.
Only scary part is your screen being off and you device seeming dead for 15min. It's normal though.
If you decide to do it the version of Flash fire must be 0.24 and you need SDK22 arm64 of exposed framework. I installed SDK21 (its for Android 5.0) first time I did which is wrong for the Android version 5.1.1 and nothing bad happened, ran the uninstaller and installed SDK22.

I don't know where I read it but I remember somebody saying every time they use flash fire they crap their pants. I will install xposed but I might wait until an unofficial unlock comes out. I can live without xposed .... For now

I guess the whole part where your phone seems dead for 20min is scary, because you do not know what is happening. I do think we can still recover with LGUP if something goes wrong though I am no expert.
Like you I really hope unofficial bootloader unlock comes, but who knows if it will...

Probably. There was no information anywhere on doing it to my variant but worked just fine (H812). Just make sure you get the right version for your phone, then the same version that is rooted. Pretty sure LGUP can not brick a phone but I am pretty new to LG phones.
Rooting aint what it was. Some folks just keep fooling themselves its worth doing. Most that do it, don't need to anymore. Give it another couple of years and root will be gone mostly.

Well for me its really worth changing the awful stock DPI on the G4, you can kind of do it without root but does not work properly.
Removing ads is a bonus.
Also it's nice to have access to play with some things. (exposed modules, tweakbox, etc).
What could you do a few years ago with root that you can't now? I am pretty new to Android, so honest question.
You can't make a Nandroid without UB can you as you don't have custom recovery do you? That is the bit I would worry about having Xposed on LB,if a module crashed the ROM. I think the Xinstaller forced into bootloop on my last G4

I don't think so, but can't you fix a bootloop with LGUP?
Unless bootloop was caused by HW failure which happened a lot on older G4s from my understanding.
Xinstaller definitely caused bootloop for my G4, not the hardware problem (that came a couple weeks later) as I went to recovery and deleted module and booted fine. It was conflict with MM at the time I think.
Point being I don't think you can make Nandroid without UB. Don't know about LGUP, I guess you could yes, but lose settings media apps etc.
Yea this is why all my stuff is either backed up to the cloud or its on the media card.
I've had a rooted phone for ages through multiple devices and vendors. I recently succumbed to the curiosity and upgraded my SEA G4 to MM, losing root. I haven't had any heat issues, not ones solved by not playing games that require constant tapping on the screen anyway, and generally I've been happy with my phone on MM. The main thing I miss from when I had root is the ability for Tasker to do certain actions - like enabling/disabling location services and NFC etc.
Sure I can live with it - but getting back abilities like that has made me consider a downgrade just like the OP many times. I am resigned to the possible fact that I may never get an unlocked bootloader, and no MM root will be no surprise to me.
When Nougat gets released for this phone in how ever long it takes do you think someone will eventually be able to root it on this phone?

You don't have to call him a douche. Honestly, I was thinking "Seriously?" as well because this is the first thing you think (rather, post of) before Nougat even comes out. We can't see the future, so this question will probably go without an indefinite answer. My input on it, though, is that root is possible if engboot still works, but if it doesn't then we're probably screwed. And I doubt engboot will work without having even MORE issues than it already does, if it even works at all.
But seriously, the name calling was unnecessary. You're the one asking the question, no need to call people names.

Sent from my SM-T715Y using XDA-Developers mobile app
I don't understand the reasoning behind the question. Nougat isn't even out yet. If you want root, then root your phone. If you want rooted Nougat, wait a couple days after release for someone to build a rooted ROM on it. Why would you want to flash back to stock just to root again instead of just flashing the rooted version from the beginning? I'm assuming that's why you got the "seriously?" reactions. Well, that and the fact that since Nougat hasn't even been released yet, so it's physically impossibly for anyone to know if it can be rooted. But yeah, I'd advise you to wait until someone uploads a rooted Nougat ROM for your phone instead if flashing back to stock and hoping to root that way. Its a million times easier to root it before putting it on your device
Based upon my understanding of how KNOX operates along with the stricter changes made to dm-verity in 7.0, I wouldn't hold my breath when it comes to rooting the S7. I know that the guys that come up with these rooting methods are very creative and smart, but KNOX, combined with SELinux, dm-verity, and locked bootloaders, is almost impossible to overcome. I've been looking at the people discussing the dirtyc0w exploit as an alternative root method, and I don't think it's possible to use it because of these safeguards.
We were extremely lucky with the leaked engboot method of rooting the S7. Without that, it's very possible that we still wouldn't have root on it.
Just a bit of addition to this conversation: It's likely our current root method won't work on Nougat. It depends on how different the kernels are, but since the engboot is built for MM there's no guarantee it's compatible with a new version. There's no guarantee it won't prevent flashing the engboot kernel once you're on it, and flashing a rooted system and then switching kernels won't help since the new kernel will verify the system.
I just really hope that we can get SuperSU on Nougat now that It has began to roll out today on my AT&T Galaxy S7. I've captured the ota update for it but someone else has already posted them on the forums so I won't waste my time. Despite how beautiful Nougat looks, I'm gonna wait and stick with MM. Why? Root. I'm almost certain that once you've updated to Nougat, it won't let you flash back to MM because of the locked bootloader, and for me personally, I want to keep root so bad because of the Viper4Android equalizer. The thing gives great sound quality and music wouldn't be the same without it. Honestly, If you really wanted to keep root then my advice is to stick with MM and wait (as long as it may take) for a working root method to come out for this new update.
Cheers!

I simply downloaded and am currently using the latest update from the developers website. Be sure to download the latest version of the app listed under "Viper4Android FX" and make sure BusyBox is properly installed on your device under /system/xbin or /system/bin. I was previously on APJ4 and just upgraded to APK1 today and haven't noticed any problems.
