I got all excited when the Galaxy Tab was introduced to the world! When it was first revealed it was a tablet/phone hybrid. Totally awesome it was, until it reached the US. Then the ability of making phone calls was taken away from it.
I went into Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T to find out "WHY?"..
A few tech individuals spoke with me regarding why the phone capability was stripped from the GTab, it wasn't economically smart to combine two uniquely different devices into one.
The US is BOUND by only four call phone carriers! There REALLY is no competition, it's almost like they have monopolized the market. All of them (except for Sprint) throttles their plans, and charges for every little thing you can imagine.
Why would a US mobile carrier loose money any combine two devices into one. The GTab to operate on their network, you would need a special data plan just for the GTab, which is different from your phone's plan.
Unless the Galaxy Note is released at a third party store like Best Buy or someplace like it, I don't see any of the US carriers taking the GNote under their wings.

You'll find out down the road if that ends up being true.
You could always buy an international like others have done already.

The only problem with that (buying it straight up) is the cost. Many of us can't afford $500 or more for a phablet, no matter how wonderful we think it is. I think AT&T will bring it out sooner or later. I can wait.
I was at an AT&T store yesterday. I was showing the reps my note. I couldn't get my note back because they all wanted to play with it! The Samsung Rep was there, she said it was definetely coming to the U.S. but wouldn't say anything else. Not when or which one, LTE or HSPA+.

Actually. it was the Samsung Rep that said that it was coming to the U.S. She was very tight lipped on everything else. Wouldn't say with who, when, or if it was an LTE or just HSPA+ model.

Amen to that, 95% of the time we on XDA know way more than them about their own products.

well I bought mine internationally for $740 and I'll be saving 1040 in data plan costs over the next 24 months, essentially I made $300 off my import as I see it. I break even at 17 months

I plan on checking out this $50 unlimited prepaid plan at&t has. that way I get voice and 4g on my Note.
I don't want to leave t-mobile and join att over a phone... but that GNote is awesome! I would have to think about switching carriers.
This might be the future of smart phones. The consolidation of tablet to phone.

I don't want to leave either but that prepaid from at&t is looking good right about now.
I have 2 phones on t-mobile, both on the $30 a month unlim web, 700 min talk
and my bill is $200 a month some times $250 if overages.
And now I see they have a new $49.99 unlim everything plan.
So for the 2 years they got me for $4800+. It's time for a change.
I ordered a microSIM activation kit from T-Mobile a week ago, and called today to inquire where it was. Due to some system issues, they couldn't tell me anything besides either a) wait until it shows/doesn't show up, or b) go into a T-Mobile store and have them sell me a SIM and activate it. Well I want to do the $30 plan, which is online only from what I gather, so having them activate it isn't an option.
I ended up just buying a SIM from them, but ran into a snag in that there is no activation code with the SIM. It's almost like this is a replacement SIM or something...hell, I don't know. Since I haven't taken the SIM out of the card, can I take it back? Is there a different kind of SIM that I should be looking for (e.g. prepaid instead of replacement??). Hell, I'd use a burner, but from what I've read, it isn't possible to port a number to a burners SIM??
All I know is that I'm tired of waiting on a package from USPS, that could be in Angola for all I know, and I have a Sprint account I am itching to cancel (and a nice new Nexus 4 I'd like to use instead of this EVO LTE).
Any insight would be fantastic. Thanks in advance!
why don't you just ask TMo yourself? none of us are TMo employees.
I'm in the identical position waiting for my microsim to arrive so I can port my number from sprint.

Thanks for the non-snarky response! My local store is closed, and their customer service line transferred me 4 times before cutting off. I figured that, in the great hive mind, SOMEONE had to be in the same position, and might know the answer.
The SIM did come on a card, and there is a SIM number, and a PUK number, whatever that is. I suppose I can try to brave the gauntlet that is customer service again...

Customer service cannot activate the $30 100 min 5gb plan, it is for new web activations only
CS cannot activate this deal for you and the store cannot either.
Go back to the store and get the activation code you need.

Typically the activation code is printed on the paper pamphlet that comes with the phone. I have no idea if the codes are tied to the sim- I suspect they aren't since I received a card and a separate sealed pamphlet.
since I actually was a big jerk and ordered some when t-mobile was free, I have two extra activation codes - incoming PM.
I did the same.
Ordered from the website. Got it yesterday. The activation code was on the booklet. Activated first on Pay As You go. (by mistake, don't know why). Had to wait for a day before I could change the plan. Next day activated the 30$ plan online. Voila!
P.S. the 30$ plan is also available in walmart. You can buy it online and walmart sends you the code through which you can activate it online. My bro does that

Good info, just in case my fat fingers borked it. Thanks! Through this whole process, I just wasn't sure if there was something "special" about the kit they send out, and really don't like relying on USPS...
So I get home and happen to check my receipt from Thursday when I bought the note 4 and I noticed they charge me a $30 upgrade fee when I paid full retail. I called customer service and they fixed it and refunded my money immediately. Just a FYI to check your receipt.

2.) i REFUSE to sign on contract with verizon and lock myself into a 2 year agreement.
3.) what business is it of yours whether we buy off contract or don't? yeah, we've heard of the "best buy" loophole, which was eliminated back in August. i'm not risking losing my unlimited data when i have the means to purchase my phone outright, thanks.
Search on slickdeals "upgrade and keep unlimited data" you will find all your answers there. I was able to upgrade all 5 of my lines with no problem. The key is to never use the SIM card that ships with the phone!

Hey I don't blame you, I don't trust them either to a point where I can't even go into their stores because they always want to pull up your account and look around , even when buying an accessory so I stopped going there. For me, being in the small minority, I'm actually in contract until October 2015 due to their new 2 year contract and keep unlimited data "glitch" last year.
Here is something I've never been able to understand. Hopefully someone can help me get this. I hear about this method and that method to keep unlimited data. I hear about dummy phones and switching sims., etc... on contract is 299. Off contract is 699. Difference of $400....over 2 years. Doesn't a dummy phone, or line cost money? I've heard 10 a month, so in two years 240 dollars spent. That leaves $160 left. .....over 2 years? ??? That comes to about a $7/month savings. Ummmmm.....I see a lot of effort for $7/month put in by a lot of people. Am I missing some other super secret method to keep unlimited data? I paid full retail for mine, saved the 200, and kept unlimited, but im also not worried about the Verizon police either.

As someone who has unlimited data on 2 of my lines (wife and mine) I'm not sure this is entirely true. I've upgraded 3 times since they stopped unlimited data and the note 4 makes 4 times. I'm doing it the same way I've always done it, I even tell vzw I'm doing it and no one (at verizon) has ever told me I can't so it.

So my question to those of you on unlimited data is .... If you look at the amount of data you use on a regular basis, then figure in the cost of a full price phone, are you actually saving much money over what you would pay if you just had a normal contract? My guess is a few people are getting in Verizon's pocket but for the most part you aren't coming out that far ahead if any. That's why Verizon doesn't close the loophole. These guys run a billion dollar business. You think they don't know everything about their business. They have people that read these forums.
It's the same reason Cspire offers unlimited plans because they know that most people don't use much data. Only a few use a ton.

I know a lot of users who use a ton of data me and my girlfriend use between 20 to 30 gb each a month. Our combined bill is only 145 bucks that's with 2 smartphone and a feature phone. I can't speak for all but in my case the price I'd pay for that much data on a new plan would just be ridiculous, so for a heavy user (anyone using over 8gb) then I'd say never lose unlimited.
Sprint is touting the Nexus 6's support for its Spark LTE network and Easy Pay plans. You can get the new Nexus on Sprint for $29 per month for 24 months, or pay the entire cost of $696 up front.
At least, we're getting more information which is good. Anyone getting it on Sprint? Remember you can pay the full cost, pop in another carrier's sim and be on your way.

Why would it come with a sim? You get your sim from your carrier.
Thanks for posting. I think I'll still be ordering from the play store just because I'd like the option to bring this phone to another carrier at will but hopefully these preorders will help clear up the inventory on the play store in the beginning of December when I'm planning to order the phone.
This information is correct. I spoke to someone at the store and they told me that the phone will arrive there in a few days and will be ready for sale on the 14th.
My main question was if they are going to have the 64gb since there are rumors going around that sprint will only sell 32gb. I was basically told that they still don't know because the corporate email hasnt been sent. They also told me that they may have the 64gb since similar thing happened with the iphone6. They were told that they will only sell certain models, but in the end they got them all.

Oh ok, you plan to use Fi. Thought you meant you were going to finance it through Fi and use T-mobile service on it which won't work, the phone will be locked to Fi while it's financed until you pay it off.
My invite says it's 2/3 weeks away. That I am on the list. I'm hoping to grab a 5x through fi for my fiancé. I'm converting her from the iPhone lol. She's game too. I was kind of shocked, but she was good once she seen the video.

I tried to got that route thinking it would let me bypass the wait. Unfortunately I finally got my invite this morning and wasn't even able to order the phone. I'm already on the waitlist.
So I guess I'm not sure what you think you'll be gaining by getting it Fi. The price is the same and availability is the same. I would just buy it through the store is you have no need for the service itself.
Off topic question about Fi, I should be getting an invite in a few weeks, but I am still on Verizon. Will Fi start charging me once I receive the sim, or will it only charge me when I activate it? I would assume activation

True, but I'm not willing to shell out $690 upfront, hence why I'm doing the installment plan. God knows how long it will take for the phone to hit the stores, if it ever will

Thanks, I forgot about the financing. But you'd be spending $30 a month interest. That's pretty steep.

I went to the project fi site and got an instant invite, my question is if you root will that effect the service? I know the pay won't work on my rooted phone but that doesn't bother me

Android pay works with root, you have to unroot while entering cards, then you can root again.
How'd you get an instant invite? Most people have to wait weeks. Root shouldn't effect service.
Not sure, maybe location? Wasn't expecting it, on an one m8 at the moment and don't feel like messing with it to make pay work on it. Using T-Mobile $30 prepay at the moment and not really using any where close to my 5G's of my data, and using hangouts for 90 % of my calls works ok, so I figured I'd give fi a try.
Now that you're signed up for Project Fi, all that's left is for us to ship your order. We're on it, and we'll follow up with a separate shipping confirmation.

You may be able to add cards while you unroot, but the actual tap and pay will not work if you are rooted.
I got an instant invite too. I think it probably has to do with location. Fi is an experiment, so Google would probably want to have people running it all over the network area.
Where did you see that it would be SIM locked to Fi? If that's true, I'll probably just cancel my order because I have very little faith that the service will be acceptable where I live. I was going to give it a shot and if it sucked, I was just going to throw my Verizon SIM in.

FYI, I just looked at the Fi help faq and it says you can cancel any time with the payment plan, but you have to pay off the phone at that time. It really does not seem like the phone is SIM locked.

You might be correct about sim locked, but they do require active service while doing payments so it wouldn't be a good deal for someone to Pay $20 plus taxes a month just to be able to finance the phone if one doesn't plan on using Fi service.
I ordered my Nexus 6P through Project Fi. The 128GB Aluminum model.
