Anyone else a fan of gesture control? I feel it truly helps make navigating faster and if rooted it can help maximize screen space by allowing you to get rid of the navigation keys.
Does anyone know of a way to get rid of the bottom navigation keys without rooting the phone?
Also, anyone know how to get rid of the Google now gesture launcher? It gets in the way of customized gestures that use the bottom edge.

Try All In One Gestures from Play Store

I want to get the Nexus 4 but only if I can disable those buttons as all the videos I see they turn invisible in full screen apps but you're left with a black bar instead of the full screen working. I'm worried that it is at a hardware level and you'll never be able to disable them so you can have the full use of the screen. It's such a big downer seeing the phone compared to other phones and how much space those buttons take.
Thanx.
Edit: I don't want it where I have to go into a menu to switch them on or off. I want them to hide themselves when I haven't got my finger in the area so I can quickly use them, otherwise it would get annoying having to keep manually turning them on and off.

Not built into Android? You'd have thought it would be a feature that would be one of the first to make it in.
In some roms you can make them smaller, but disabling doesn't make sense because you cannot control your phone without them.
Maybe a toggle in the powermenu(longpress power) would be a compromise.
You can use GMD Gesture control from the play store if you dont want to have to flash a ROM to do this. All you do is swipe with three fingers up from the bottom of the screen and BOOM they disappear. You can make your own gesture to do this too!
I use LMT Launcher on my Galaxy Nexus, my navbar is enabled like 95% of the time. Hopefully someone can come up with a mod to hide the navbar.

This is very easy to do. Not sure in JB 4.2, but in JB 4.1.2 all you have to do is remove these lines out of the build.prop:
launcher.force_enable_rotation=true
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
Make sure to use something like LMT Launcher pie control to replace the on screen buttons. This is by far my favorite setup as I can not stand on-screen buttons taking up screen real estate.
Edit... Someone may want to confirm this on a stock rom as I'm not seeing this in AOKP.
Why does everyone feel the need to create a thread for one question? There is a help threa stickied for a reason, so i'd appreciate if questions were asked there, especially such general questions like this one. Please help us keep this forum cleaner guys.
The bottom of my N7 screen cracked but the device is still very usable. The bottom half inch will not respond to touch, but everything above that point works just fine! I'm hoping for a way to expand my navigation bar size, or bump it up to leave my screen blank under it.. Any help will be greatly appreciated and I have some $ in PayPal as a thanks. Any help as in a ROM that allows a Nav Bar Resize.. A way to move it to the top of my tablet screen... Some way I can put a google search bar under it or anything to waste that space. Thanks for ideas, hoping to save my N7 and keep it usable without having to rotate it everytime I need that portion of my screen!

I could have sworn I've seen navbar mods somewhere. You could always consider using PIE controls, however, if you want to remap them to the left/right screen edges.
Thanks for the quick reply. Pie Controls is a very useful work around for now. The app would be amazing if it let me choose exactly where on the screen I could pull up the navigation bar, but even without that option it is a great help!
I've seen some Mods but all of them seem to shrink the Bar, not enlarge it.
The reason I want to extend the stock navigation bar isn't just to be able to touch the buttons but it also pushes all opened apps, my home screen, etc up past that point that is cracked... So while playing a game or in my options menus I would still be able touch the bottom of my screen, just above the navigation bar (which I can't do now.) Basically, the top of the Bar is the bottom of my touch screen and it isn't high enough for me to use the entire screen =(

LMT Launcher is a pie control interface. It allows you to open from anywhere on the left or right and you can setup gestures as well with it to do the navbar functions. Look it up here on xda.

Is there any option to make iPhone X gestures on S8
Which gestures do you mean exactly?
There is no nav bars . Only gestures. When you close an app, only scroll up from bottom of screen. Or when you scroll up half, it shows recently used apps. Like these. By this way , nav bar doesn't fill a place at screen.
You could hide the navbar by pressing the dot in the left.
For the rest, I think it COULD be possible to do that kind of gestures in some custom rom.
That's my first rom without custom rom so I cannot speak for that but in my past phones, most times there was an option for that. You could hide the status bar, the navbar and could save some custom gestures like the one you want.
I highly doubt that anyone will do an iOS-like rom. That's just not a thing the wide community wants. You could also just sell your S8 and buy yourself the iPhone X. That would be the best option.
Why you need them?
You've problems with your nav bar?
We have nav bar and we don't need them
If this is not the case, I would suggest you to sell s8 and purchase a X
I don't like nav bar placing screen. That's all.
Just use navbar hider APK or 0pt navbar apk and download all in one gestures from the playstore or personally my favorite simple control and voila oh and enable all full screen apps to get rid of that stupid white tap her to fill screen bull****.
I'm sure that alternative navbar are coming with an iphoneX-like style
But if you don't want to wait, just use some gestures apps from the play store
When Blackberry 10 came out with these gestures in 2013, it wasn't as popular, but when Apple copies it, it becomes an interesting invention. When first iPhone came out, then others were trying to catch up, but for few years it is the opposite. So we need to look what is ahead and not at the past.
Hide navbar/status bar permanently

For gestures, download Nova Launcher Prime and assign gesture controls. In fact, get that set up before ditching the nav bar
Solutions
Hello You can use "All in one gestures" for simulete home.

There are many apps that offer 3rd party gesture based navigation. Among these are a slew of iPhone X gesture clones. Worth noting: iPhone X gestures are not ideal for the S8, as swiping up will cause the navbar to reappear. There is a way of permanently hiding the navbar, but it does not work on Oreo.
Download x home bar:free from the play store.
I'm trying to emulate Android 10 gestures and I'm pretty close to that - back gesture from the sides is there, swipe up from home button for recents also can be replicated. The only problem left are the stock back and recents gestures. I would like to get rid of them (and their bars on the hint navbar) and leave only home button with it's bar. And that's the problem, I don't know how to do it.
I can remove home and recent buttons on the regular navbar using ADB, but this method doesn't affect gestures, I guess it stores the setup for that somewhere else, any ideas where is it or at least how to find it out? I don't have root unfortunately.
I don't want to use third-party apps for that because they all seem clunky for me, I have to disable the navbar by resizing it to 0 which breaks the hard press home button which I want to keep
I use lots of apps that swiping right or left brings up side menus ,so swipeing right or left to back is pain and interferes with these apps ,is there any way of using the corners again ?
I hate this, too. So I use the best third party gesture app that retains OnePlus' original gestures, plus adds additional functionality:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivianuu.oneplusgestures
Switch to navigation bar, then use a PC with ADB to hide the bar. Or use root..

Thanks for this recommendation. I too am used to the original gestures and find myself constantly invoking the Google Assistant without wanting to!
I was so disappointed with the new gestures and immediately started to miss my OnePlus 6, this app saves the whole Android 10 experience on OP8. Thank you!!
I don't mind the right side swipe but I don't need the left swipe in for back, any way to deactivate that!?
XDA app uses swipe in from left and the phone just thinks I want to go back

I personally use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fb.fluid since it has a bit more features. Same setup though. I just couldn't stand the normal implementation...
Try swiping on a diagonal when trying to open a menu.
Edit: diagonal trick doesn't work so well, but I've found that using 2 fingers works very well to slide a menu out and not trigger the back function.
Thought I would revive this ,surely Google and apps developers.realisenthisnis an issue and something has to give ,I use at least half a dozen aps that have swipe from the side gestures ,all that's happening the moment is it takes me back .
Surely either app developers have to make it swipe from middle for it to work or Google has to allow swipe up to go back as an option
