Why is step 6 necessary if it is already back to saying official? (I'm new to dealing with samsung's flash counter so I apologize if the answer is obvious)

yes it is neccesary because in download mode it may show SYSTEM STATUS : OFFICIAL but it does not show in settings > about device > status> device status
it will be still modified or custom there so factory reset needs to be done
I did the same thing but stayed rooted with the "Official" Device Status in About settings using mobile ODIN Pro.
Triangle away 1st, I used the latest, 2.88 I believe.
From a rooted device with mobile ODIN Pro installed I factory reset the Note 1st in settings, then using mobile ODIN flashed a stock rom onto the device ticking clear cache/data and clear dalvik cache.
After reset and setup, I'm still rooted with Mobile ODIN Pro & Supersu installed and have 0 counter, Official rom status in download mode on both parts and my About status in settings says official... This took about as long as it takes to flash the stock rom....
2nd picture, 3rd app from the right is SuperSU Pro...

but with my method u dont need to flash stock rom [ correct me if i am wrong ]
You still need to go back to a stock rom. Any custom R0Ms won't do as they use custom recoveries. Besides, I haven't seen many Custom ROM's that Can be flashed by ODIN.
And as soon as you root your tab you increase the flash counter.

Thats 100% correct .
TA + Stock Rom + Factory Reset is my preferred method to clear the three custom firmware indicators .

As of now I am rooted, have a custom firmware and high on android recovery. I want to stay rooted but remove all 3 of the custom status warnings. If I just follow this guide, will I stay rooted? I know I will have to remove my custom rom but I don't mind so it isn't a problem. Based on what ultramag69's post it sounds like I will be able to remain rooted using the guide in the OP.
It's unrelated to what I want to do now (since I want to keep root) but how is this different from unrooting. The steps seem the same. I'm confused about how/if you keep root with this method and how you would go about unrooting in the event of needing to send the tablet in for repairs to samsung.

Because you can't use the Allshare cast hub if you have a custom status in the bootloader section and a raised count.
This has been raised before....
You may want to alter the name of the thread to say for stock roms as this may come up again.
With the method I put forward you will loose your custom rom but you will retain a stock rooted rom with all statuses as "Official" and "0" flash counter. Afterwards you may be able to flash a custom rom but I believe the system status will go back to "Custom" as custom roms install custom recoveries and play around with system files that get scanned after initial boot...
Likewise the thread says how to reset and does not say how to reset stock rom only .

Yes. Those are the 3 areas that change.
My Download mode screen says -
Odin mode
Product Name: GT-N8000
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
My System>about device>Status>Device Status is Official.
I am rooted with Super SU pro installed and Mobile ODIN Pro installed. I have root access to my device. I can use titanium backup/carbon backup as I am rooted.
Clock sync works without needing rootless mode and I can access and alter my system directory.

Hello (or goodnight )
Here I Root my GS4 and I installed a custom recovery (TWRP), all via ODIN. But I'm still remained Stock ROM.
Unfortunately I have to send my GS4 in after-sales service :S I decided to return the original.
First I think having my GS4 Root and you have installed a custom recovery via ODIN did increment the flash counter because it was two ... So I reset to 0 with Triangle Away program. I then install the same stock rom that I had in my GS4 before having root. The I9505XXUBMGA_I9505OXXBMG3_XEF (I live in Belgium). Downloaded SamMobile I installed via ODIN.
==> So I lost the root and the custom recovery. But I was not in status OFFICIAL CUSTOM but when I go to "Settings - About phone - Status - Device Status". So I did a wipe data and cache with the original recovery. So I had to re set everything (wifi, google account, etc.). So I am finally OFFICIAL.
My question: Installing the stock rom I9505XXUBMGA_I9505OXXBMG3_XEF was made via ODIN as the root of my phone and the custom recovery ... My flash counter is incremented by 1 he suddenly as he did for having root and install the recovery via ODIN? For now I'm not ROOT, so I do not know check my meter flash :S.
After sales service, it will pass? I have no trace of root? Because when I go to the root of my telephone, or was the file "etc., system, vendor, sys, etc ..." I see a "root" folder with nothing in it (I do not know to remove because it is a system folder and I do not have root privileges to edit these files to).
In advance thank you and good day

You have to root the phone again with CF Auto Root from here http://download.chainfire.eu/326/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-ja3g-ja3gxx-gti9500.zip, download Busybox from Play and install it, then use Triangle Away and after its done go straight to downloadmode (don`t reboot) and flash the stock rom again with Odin. After it boots do a data factory reset in settings/accounts/backup and restore and its full stock again and the counter says 0 again.
Good night and good luck
Hello people,
So here is what i have done :
Galaxy S5 stock > Rooted > Recovery installed > Omega ROM V16 Android 5.0 installed worked fine >(problem started here) I wanted to install Wanam for my phone, so i flashed the .zip into recovery then i experienced a boot loop, so i wiped & clean for a new room & re-install Omega ROM V17, then the phone work well.
So, then i wanted to install Omega ROM V13 (android 4.4), so my phone is now stuck on Samsung Galaxy S5 nothing happend..
I testing manything :
- Re-install rom with FULL WIPE
- WIPE ALL & Install STOCK ROM via Odin
- WIPE ALL > Root > Recovery > Stock rom via Odin
- WIPE ALL > Stock Rom via Odin
- WIPE ALL > Root > Recovery > Omega V17
- WIPE ALL > Root > Recovery > Omega V13
Almost 4 hours im on the problem ..
EDIT: I'm actually download the latest android 5.0 stock rom, i will try to install her via Odin and tell you what happend.. i'm terribly sad at this moment did i killed my phone ?..
Any idea please ?
Thanks !
If you are on 5.0 firmware and trying to flash a pre-5.0 rom it will not work. Unless I misunderstand your post, you need to Odin a 4.4 tar in order to be on the correct bootloader.

Just full wipe before downgrade -> turn off -> battery out for 30s ->boot do download mode ->flash kitkat via ODIN.

Yeah know that, i just leave it while i'm worked this morning ^^
That worked for 5.0, i'm testing right now with KitKat.
Okay, got problem, when i install stock KitKat room, my phone keep rebooting in Samsung logo, even if wipe all..
SOLVED: All you need to do, wipe data + cache, go into download mode, load up your stock rom & make sure to check the case "Update Bootloader" in Odin.
I cant install TWRP with odin.
Odin show me PASS, but when i want to go into recovery i cant (only stock recovery works) ;/
What i must to do? Thanks for help!

Have Nice day !:highfive:
Thank you! its not work for me, but i did it!
1. uncheck autoreboot in odin
2. Download CWM (not TWRP or Philz > its not work for me in first time) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697523
3. Set CWM in AP and press start
4. When it PASS, manually power off phone, and start it to Recovery
5. And now you must install TWRP or Philz again. (dont turn on the phone, only download mode)
Same problem / Still not working
Hey guys,
I have the same problem here.
The other thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/help/custom-recovery-protection-samsung-t3135004 ) suggested going back to an older rom version.
I have tried every other combination of flashing CF / CWM / TWRP but the outcome is the same.
No working recovery.
Is there a possibility without reverting to an older rom, as the BOE5 is not named in the other thread?
Hey guys,
got it working for me.
I flashed G900FXXU1ANG2_G900FDBT1ANG2_DBT via Odin and got a bootloop at first.
Then flashed twrp-2.8.7.0-klte.img in dowload mode
--> boot to recovery, wiped everything, installed custom rom (newest cdroid version) and super su --> phone booted, with root and installed custom rom with 5.1.1
2 days ago i flashed twrp on my pure stock note 4, i did backup my rom including EFS using twrp and then flash kyubi rom with nameless kernel, it all went well. just now i wipe data ,system, cache on twrp and restore my backup stock rom and it went well too...and then i try to flash stock rom using odin so i can get back the stock recovery mode for OTA update when MM releases.. the flashing was a sucess and phone booted but my data inside werent wipe.
so i went to recovery mode and saw this dm-verity verification failed on the bottom i proceed to wipe data and reboot my phone, its all working now no problems except i cant reset my phone with the setting inside it will just bring me to recovey mode and stay there with that message.
now i did some research, some saying will bootloop and stuffs but mine is all ok no problem except i cant reset it inside the settings..
anyone can help me get rid of that message/problem?
If you format everything in advance format in twrp and then flash stock firmware this message will go away.
got the same problem. Then I went to a local store. They helped me. Here are steps
1. Pull out your battery, check your serial number (S/N:....)
2. Download smart switch, enter emergency software recovery..... Enter your serial number
3. Turn off your phone. Enter download mode or sth ( I don't remember it clearly. just power + vol down or up. just try it)
4. Smart switch will recognize your phone. Choose a firmware to download. then wait
5. Enjoy stock firmware
Use kies3 reinstall drivers, then use emergency recovery in kies to reinstall your current firmware or opt to update to latest or most recent release or version then follow kies instructions
rooted s5 smg900r4
Hello everyone
I have found a way to fix dm-verity and DRK issues and it works like official, meaning no errors in stock recovery and OTA works with Official firmware, the problem is related to corrupted/deleted 3 files on /efs partition. I have tested it on SM-N910C so I guess it works on other Exynos variants, perhaps even on snapdragon if the partition layout is similar? Kies won't restore DRK or dm-verity check because it doesn't write to EFS. I can fix yours if someone is interested via Team Viewer, you will need the following:
1. PM contact me for Skype ID
2. Stock rom, rooted (any root method)
3. Adb debugging enabled and drivers installed (Kies or SmartSwitch)
After repair you can enter your stock recovery and confirm there is no DRK/dm-verity red letters error.
Regards,
magix01
please guide us the proceedure here .. i have a phone with same problem & i have to update it to MM ...

If you just unlocked your bootloader and thats it, your rom should still be the stock one.
