I have posted before about the default white background colour on this phone which only lets you have a white background in Main applications Text / Dailer / Contacts / E-mail and Calendar with no ablity to change it even in themes
I have tried some third party apps overcome this on Dialer and text but you should not have to do this
I have just checked out the Z2 and even the Z3 Mini and its just the same .
Samsung and others give you the light or dark option.
So it looks like my only way is down the custom Rom
Unless any ideas and will custom rom do this
So come on Sony !!!!!!

For sony apps
open framework-res.apk with winrar (do not extract it) click on res look for drawable-xhdpi and extract it once the folder is on your pc open it and search for semc_bg_light.png edit the .png and then reopen framework-re.apk and go to res/drawable-xhdpi and drag semc_bg_light in to framework-res.apk/res/drawable-xhdpi
For android based apps you would need to decompile your framework-res.apk with bdfreaks apktool and navigate to res/drawable and edit background_holo_light.xml with notepad++ then recompile it
change the red to your color ( ffffff in both areas will make a white background )
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<shape
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<gradient android:startColor="#ffe8e8e8" android:endColor="#ffffffff" android:angle="270.0" />
</shape>

I wanted to give my App a nice "Web 2.0" background like the new Twitter for Android has.
When I set the image as "Background" everything looks fine in Eclipse but on my Desire the image gets blurry and distorted.
kinda like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Here is the solution:
Basicly I created a bitmap and used it as background.
1. create a xml file within /res/drawable ... lets name it bg_texture.xml for this example.
Fill it with this code, lets assume the image is called backgroundimage.png
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<bitmap xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:src="@drawable/backgroundimage"
android:tileMode="repeat"
android:filter="true"
android:dither="true" />
2. Set the "Background" property of the element to @drawable/bg_texture and it should work.
You won't see it in Eclipse, but on the phone it looks nice and crisp.
I see a minor difference i guess. You could just save a slice of their bar... like a 1 pixel wide slice, and just set that as background, and itll stretch across?
Does your image use an alpha channel? That might make it look smoother.
its not the fault of the image I guess, because it looks nice in the editor and other images on Android look nice as well... I guess its a bug in the way Android builds the UI. Kinda similar to the bug with artefacts on wallpapers. So I hoped anyone would know a workaround.
Yay I got the solution. It's from this website.
Edit: I updated the first post with the solution.
I have been searching around for a suitable theme for cm7, thou I found some really great looking theme out there, there is always something I like or don't like. So I thought I start a little project of my own to customize the theme myself.
I have been studying the framework.apk last night, but I am still not sure which file to change, because the naming is not too definitive to me. So I was wondering any theme builder out there can help me. Hopefully compile a guide for future beginners at some point as well.
The screenshot below with four different colour bracket is the parts I want to change, it would be so kind if someone can take a few minutes of their time to explain it to me with file I need to edit for each section.

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Red: power toggle background
Blue: power toggle icons
Green: Notification item background
Yellow: Bottom tab.
With friendly greeting
/system/framework/framework-res.apk
Under /res/drawable-hdpi in the apk
The top bar icons are stat_
e.g. stat_battery36.png etc
Most of the images are in framework-res.apk so just have a look through there. You will need to decompile the apk to edit xml files for that search apktool
i heard that you can just add a .zip extension onto the apk file then you can just edit them there.
Or perhaps I am wrong, because once I change it to a zip file, I can't change it bk to apk even I rename the extension.
I am on a Mac, not sure if thats has anything to do with it.
thanks

I believe he's putting a pre-customized ROM together and would like to change what the initial color is.
I've been trying to do the same thing with no luck finding the code for it
Hello there
I try to make a theme for the Rascream rom and i have some problems with XML editing and from what i see i'm not the only one with this problem.
I actually try to change colors of the text and a line in popup menu, but every time i recompile the framework-res apk with modified values, the statusbar and the lockscreen are deformated (look the screenshot)

I try to change the blue text and line in this screen to white...
Is here someone can help with this problem. This is the only thing i need to change for finish the theme. I try all i find over the internet, but without success.
No one?
Sometimes xml editing involves adding new lines to overlay others somewhere else. With ics ive noticed in arrays there are theme statements which change cursors, texts, and borders just from one change to the statement. Maybe check some source on the reboot options to narrow it down. Are you editing source or decompiling framework-res.apk?
But if i change any line i have everytime the same error.
I decompile the esisting framework-res.
Tnx for the help realy

What files have you changed?
try to change status_bar_item_background_normal
***EDIT***
Decompile your SystemUI.apk
open /res/layout/status_bar_latest_event.xml
Find the line with android:background
The value is the path of the image.
For example, the line is android:background="@android:drawable/status_bar_item_background"
It's either in the framework-res/res/drawable
or framework-res/res/drawable-ldpi
If you've found it in the drawable folder, open the xml file, the values are the path to the actual .png image
