Hey,
For those who are rooted and care to use the "T-Mobile My Account" app.
Be aware that this app now scans your phone to see if it's rooted. This information is saved and can be sent over to T-Mobile.

Since we are rooted, I'm sure many use Xposed. Go into xposed and download an app called RootCloak. You can use RootCloak app w/ xposed to hide root within the t-mobile app. This would allow you to use the app and monitor your account usage. Also, go into the My Account app and disable diagnostics and anything related to scanning your phone for health.
You can use Titanium Backup to uninstall the app as a whole if you don't use it.
But I thought I share this info anyways.
Lol unintstalling for me....... not cool T-Mobile ?
Its in Note 3 before too. It says my phone is rooted but TMO didn't really care when I trade it in for Note 4. They didnt even check it. They just verified the serial number of phone behind the battery if I am returning the right unit.
Then they gave it back to me for a second so I can factory reset it.
They don't care at all.

Nope they dont. They don't want to blow a sale. That being said, always make sure it's back on a stock rom unrooted just on case.

According to a friend that works at a corporate store, they don't even check. They send it to the company who deals worth their insurance claims. That company may look, but doubtful.
I've usually returned to stock, but with Knox tripped on the Note 3, I didn't bother. Still had a custom recovery too. Never heard a thing.

Hey man Im doing good lol. Yeah I sold theta G-Pad along while ago. As you can see in my sig i went for its big brother lol got the Note Pro 12.2 instead. Yeah my note 4 is coming in today lol
These rooting "paranoia" threads do NOTHING but perpetuate the MISINFORMATION that T-Mobile cares if you root your phone...THEY DON'T, so please stop posting/spreading/perpetuating this paranoid, MIS-INFORMATION all over these threads...
I know about this already when I have the rooted HTC One M7. Cook ROM do not include this app anyway.
I had called to submit a warranty claim on my Note 3, and answered all their questions. Then they asked if I had rooted my phone because that's what was showing up on their end. I had tripped Knox when I rooted, so they said that I can still file a warranty claim, but instead of it being a usual, just pay the $5 shipping fee (when they do that, they consider the defect a manufacture defect), they said I would have to pay the deductible of $180 as if it was a user problem.

Yup, I've returned multiple devices over the years with no issue. I returned an HTC sensation years ago running a rom, sales guy looked at it, was like, cool. What's this called. Lol they don't care. I've never understood people's hesitation over something even samsung has the ability to clear in 2 seconds.

Yeah my issue might of been calling the 611 number. Granted the 180 deductible still means I am under the warranty cover, but with an issue caused by me. Manufacture defects are covered free of charge other than the 5 dollar shipping fee. At least via phone. Never gone into a store and asked there.
I actually had them refuse to do a warranty exchange on my G3 because they say that they show my device was rooted. I pushed until they did it anyway. Now I remove the app immediately after rooting.

I've read this before and why I remove the app as well.
I returned my N3 rooted with Hyperdrive on it still. Lol.
Not the guy helping, but another one came and played with my phone and noticed it looked like the S5, lol.
I pretended I didn't hear that and he just walked away. Lol.
They don't care, I exchanged like 3 Notes this year also.
Sucks for those that have had problems.

So I come across this article today and now I am beyond pissed off.
I have waited patently for over 6months for my Xoom to be updated to 4g as stated when I bought it. I have watched another manufacturer release a 4g tablet and said no biggie anytime. Now i find out Motorola will be selling a 4g tablet in the next 2 weeks and they have yet to make good on the advertised 4g on the Xoom.
Really? It says right in the URL that the upgrade is starting on the 29th.
If the new Xoom goes on sale on this date that means they have been producing them to distribute instead of taking care of current customers first. How long will it take for them to upgrade all our units.
LTE Upgrade Package confirmation
Motorola of CTDI sent _________ 1 FedEx Standard Overnight package(s).
This shipment is scheduled to be sent on 09/29/2011.
I went to Verizon's site and entered my MEID and personal info.
I am trying to enter my info but after it asks me for my address it tells me it cannot complete. Very frustrating.
I'm filling out the stuff for mine right now, it says I get a free standard dock "while supplies last"
Sad that I have the speaker dock..oh wells a little peace offering it seems like
just completed the form...had not received the official email from motorola yet however. Don't have an address I can use for signed deliveries however. May have to take a day off
I noticed the dock as well. I guess I have one for the office now... Happy about the update finally happeneing, but alittle upset it took so long.... either way, This should breath new life into my tablet. Let's see if Ice cream does the same in a few months.
R U guys rooted if so what you guys did to unroot or what you guys removed to send it back..?? Will they upgrade it if I send it rooted with TIAMAT..??
Of course I go to the signup page and put in my info and what happens? I get a message saying it can't connect and to try back later. This is so annoying.

It's about time. I'm more than a little upset that it took this long but we'll see what happens. It's funny, I had just filed FTC complaints and Better Business Bureau complaints a week ago. I had fun filling out the BBB form. If it goes up the chain at Motor, they will be laughing at my list of suggested remedies for a long time.

I unrooted and will wipe everything before sending the device in. I've waited a long time for this and the last thing I want is it screwed up because of a custom ROM. I read some said they were going to leave it rooted and lock it. I think this is stupid for the time it takes to unroot and reroot, just return it to stock. Who wants the send in the device wait three days only to have it sent back without the update because you thought you would be the cool guy and lock your rooted voided warranty Xoom.
I think they just factory flash it. It won't matter if it's rooted. When they hook it up they use a different cable to activate a section in the memory that can be flashed in one step. Sort of like flashing multiple hard drives for pc's. They actually thought about it at moto! It won't matter if you encrypt it, root it, or load the wrong firmware. It will come back with stock 3.2.2 and locked! Already spoke with a friend at moto about it. They just want to make sure we hide our files from prying eyes. They can't just throw a 4g card in and send it back, because it has to be bench tested to show it is working b4 they ship it back out. Trust me that cable is well worth the money too! Even if you brick your xoom, you can flash it back to stock in one click. But you have to have the file and the software moto use with that cable.

well, i bought 16gb n7 and they delivered n7 with transformer rom installed, im thinking this must be other customer's n7 returned product, anyway, i emailed them asking for a replacement, just got an email an hr ago showing the instruction, with the return shipping to service center, they didnt say they going to cover for the cost of shipping or that's must come out of our pocket.
last week i tried to installed stock n7 rom on this and it works great again without any problem
so should i return this and waiting for the next n7 which maybe have problems?

You ordered a new device and received someones return? That just goes to show you how little they are paying attention to the details while they try to push as many of these things out as possible due to all these pre-orders. Another reason why I feel the need to wait it out for a few more months and see how things are then.
Was the package sealed like new?
I'd honestly return it just because, obviously it had a problem for someone to return it, fixed or not you basically received a "refurb" instead of a brand-new unit. That's grounds for a serious discount.
What makes you so sure it had a non standard ROM?

It might not necessarily be a customers returned unit. If it was just a blank Transformer rom it could be a mess up in the production process. Rememeber Asus make both devices so they will have all those roms floating about. I had a strange rom on my Galaxy Nexus when I bought it but it was defo a new device. It might just be a mistake when they initialy built it.
But if you flashed the N7 rom with no problems and the unit is ok I would just keep it. Opening up a whole set of new potential problems if you swap it..

Before someone says 'search', you should know that the search function isn't working on XDA right now.
I was browsing SquareTrade's website and came across the fact that they have a specific page for Samsung Galaxy devices. It seems that those warranties are cheaper than the regular smartphone warranties. http://www.squaretrade.com/samsung-galaxy-warranty
It's only $99 down and $99 deductible. That seems like a good deal, since it covers accidental as well as water and mechanical.
Has anyone used SquareTrade before? Was it worth it, and what was the process for getting a replacement like?

It really sucks because I paid off an installment plan early to get it, because I love the device.
Now that I've got to return it, I have no idea what I'll end up with. Sprint no longer sells Nexus devices, they skipped the V10, and it'll be a while before they get either the G5 or the M10, and idk whether I'll even like those devices when they do, or whether or not they'll be locked down as well.
I might actually be stuck with the G3 for a while.
over in the tmobile thread we have started a social media campaign... search on twitter for #freethes7edge and #bootloadergate start tweeting to sprint's CEO and to @Samsungmobileus the more we get the better our chances of getting a tool to unlock these phones.
I've been tweeting all afternoon. Hopefully we can get enough people to voice our frustration.

Hoping over from T-Mo forums... Help us out too guys! If our device gets unlocked we can probably share the goodness with you as well since it has to be done with a software update or software. Bought an edge S7, rooted like I have many of my Samsung devices. (12 of them since 2012).and yes I know the risks. Dropped my phone on table corner and cracked the screen, unusable. So I flashed back to stock and drove to Samsung service centre for a lcd replacement. $336 and a day later I pickup the phone. First thing I notice is a high pitch warning..... Says device is overheating, can't charge, bla, bla bla. So I reboot into recovery and it says device is 90c. Unrealistic temperature, actually impossible. I have flashed many Roms and made lots of androids and it never goes past 42c. I write Samsung repair shop complaining that the device is overheating falsely and I want to bring it back. His response:
Your phone is rooted, it is not performance as a standard function. Only we can replace the mainboard that to solve the issue
Best regards,
So how is this my fault? My edge was working perfectly before I brought it in and now it's my fault it's falsely overheating? Any ideas or advice? Obviously I refuse to pay for something the screwed up. I love Samsung but this is infuriating.
If you live in europe go to consumer protection. If you are currently non rooted and the phone behaves like that, it's obviously got nothing to do with software intervention.
omg it was ok to charge you for the screen... and not telling you is rooted or something back when u ask to bringis back again now its rooted ffs

So how is this my fault? My edge was working perfectly before I brought it in and now it's my fault it's falsely overheating? Any ideas or advice? Obviously I refuse to pay for something the screwed up. I love Samsung but this is infuriating.

I've seen a few teardowns with the S7 edge and they probably screwed somthing up when repairing the screen.... Sounds like their fault
... How many days did you have it before it cracked?

UPDATE:
They want to charge me another $350 because the mainboard needs replacement. Says I caused the issue because I rooted the phone. Now the phone reads 90C on TWRP in recovery and tells me I am overheating when I power on the phone.

I left the phone with a cracked screen and I come back with this.
How is this my fault???
Rooting does not cause this.
I know this doesn't help but having read so many Samsung after sales service posts of bad experience post S7 launch, it just bolsters my own personal choice of not rooting until warranty is up. I just don't do it myself. I understand why people want to do it, and the risks are accepted but it's exactly for this type of reason, where you get a company who will use root status as an excuse, why I don't.

Did rooting cause this? Not likely. Is it fair? No. Is it widely recognized that Samsung can, and will, use the fact that a phone is rooted to deny warranty coverage. Yes.

What bugs me the most is that this happened after they gave me the phone. Not before. It started during the botched repair job. Ridiculous. Everyone roots, its part of XDA.
When I had a note 2 I sent it to Samsung to repair, I paid and had it repaired but it was returned to me with other issues, Samsung refused to take ownership and it was my word against theirs. Nothing I could do about it.

Oh I'm not absolving Samsung and as I said, I get why people root right away. Just personally, I don't until warranty is up. Just a choice I make. XDA is much more then just about rooting though.

I don't think he was flaming you for rooting, just explained that Samsung will use rooting against you and that's why he won't root because of this.
I agree with him but I chose to root accepting that Samsung could refuse repair. I recently sift bricked my S7 and knew I couldn't send it to Samsung so i spent days fixing it myself, lookily I did it but if I hadn't, it could have cost me a lot of money. But I accepted that risk when I rooted and I would do it all over again if I had the chance lol
$336 for the screen is way too expensive.
Argue the case with them, be polite and ask to speak to manager.
Failing that Phone them don't give until it's resolved.
Write in explain it was fine prior to screen being replaced.
Is it possible to overheat and damage the cpu or internal components from software changes? unless someone can prove it I thing its very unlikely in your case but maybe not impossible... wish the rest of the world gets it right like Europe and deem rooting a phone not to void the warranty.
nag them till they get sick of you but do be nice, nothing good comes from anger and abuse.

Oh yes, I have over and over. I even emailed Samsung separately. Hoping for a positive result.

It is possible but not as soon as you turn on the phone and it immediately shows 90C which is not possible.

I agree, its absurd. It's like Samsung making money off their customers. Ridiculous.
I would dispute the charges with your CC company until they fix the issue. It sounds like they probably didn't seat the cooling system properly or some other internal board issue.
