Hello everyone, i just bought nexus 4 today came from SGS4 i9500 and been using the phone for the past couple of hours and i'm liking it a lot, very smooth and sexy lol.Anyways, like every android i get i go for custom roms, so as a new nexus member i have no idea what good roms, kernels to flash and would really appreciate it if someone can help me with this and sure any useful info about the phone ( like what the good/bad in nexus) i should know of as a nexus starter just let me know please, Thank you in advance.
Welcome to the family!
Franco kernel is a good choice to go with.
I don't know which ROM is good though since I like stock alot!

Hello dear Sir/Madam,
The decision was right, the Nexus 4 is an awesome device, suk it Samsung!
In my personal experience, best roms are Cyanogenmod nightlies 10.1/10.2 (10.2 if you want 4.3 base) and MIUI V5 (awesome theming capabilities). Best kernel, in terms of battery saving and performance is faux123 kernel. It allows you to enhance screen colors, ram usage and also undervolting control (which saves battery) with very smart cpu governor, enabling the full nexus 4 performance right when you need it! It also gives control over various other functions, such as gpu overclocking, giving even better graphic performance.

I been a samsung customer for so long and cant deny the fact that samsung are so good when it comes to mobiles but the galaxy S4 i9500 variant disappointed me a lot.Anyway i sure will try the kernel and the roms you suggested and see how it will go.(looking at the N4 dev threads , tons of custom roms and kernels which makes it not easy to decide what to flash lol )

It is generally a good advice to check the respective rom threads for the functions you require. Eg if you require a rom with pie control, check the rom thread for pie control on the feature list ( if there is one ). My own experience shows that most functions are not really needed, such as aforementioned pie control, that is just a comfort function, if at all. Most important function is Quiet Hours, which does not work on many roms, for whatever reason. Again, i can recommend MIUI V5 rom. It has awesome themes, you can even make your Nexus 4's OS look like an iPhone with IOS7! MIUI also features animated symbols, like the calendar or clock app. Their symbols change according to time/date. Same applies for the data usage icon. After you have set up your data plan's limit, the icon will update automatically, depending on your data usage.
I can suggest the pacman rom.
It's kinda paranoid android, aokp and cyanogenmod mashed into one

Welcome to the Nexus4 and Happy Flashing!
Thanks guys for all the help . i really appreciate it . I still have one question about the rooting method, i actually saw couple of methods on how to root N4 running android 4.2.2, well now after i upgraded to 4.3 im a bit lost on whats the best method to root N4, just wanna make it right and dont wanna ruin this lovely sweet phone lol.
Hello to all. As the title suggests, I wanted to know what do you think the combination Rom + Kernel faster for the V500. I do not care aesthetics but just the speed.
Thanks in advance to all.
Greetings
You are going to need to do some flashing and testing.
It really depends on how you are going to quantify faster. Benching gaming or just how it feels to you as a user.
We all measure the performance differently.
As a place to start from check out the antutu thread in the help and trouble shooting section of our forum.
You can at least get an idea from the benchmark perspective.
I've reached just over 27k with Mahdi and dynkernel v3. I have my settings on the forum somewhere though of the top of my head I can't remember which thread it was. (I think it was the Antutututu thread or the mahdi rom thread in original development section of forum)
I'm currently running infecteds linaro saber cm rom with its built in kernel.
I haven't benched it yet. I'll try and get round to it today or tomorrow and post up my results.
Also for that 27k benchmark I was using the Qualcomm-optimized Bionic and dalvik files from the n4 forum.
They were giving the tablet a 3k + boost in Antutututu. I'm using art atm and I haven't even tried the Qualcomm-optimized patches since reading that they couldn't be used with cm based roms anymore.
All the best rich
Edit * I can confirm that the Qualcomm-optimized patches don't work with infecteds linaro saber cm.

The best kernel is the one which you prefer over the others. There is no such thing as the better kernel. Try both of them and decide which one you like the best.Have a nice day

Try all kernel. Certain kernel is good in one phone and others is bad. Vice versa.

Threads discussing which ROM/kernel is best are usually subjective and as such often devolve into bickering and flaming. Therefor we try to avoid them when possible.
Since kernels are required to be open source there usually isn't too much difference between them as far as battery life is concerned, but it's still a good idea to review recent posts in their thread to make sure there aren't a lot of people reporting bugs or anything. (just please don't ask about it in there, if you don't find any bug reports it's likely good )
Thread closed.
When I bought my Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, I was kind of disappointed that there were no custom ROMs etc. I've been really happy with the various ROMs that have been in the works and I have thoroughly enjoyed the PAC ROM for the SM-T530. I am curious though if anyone is interested in or has started or attempted to make a custom kernel that allows us Tab 4 10.1 users some more control over our devices, aside from just being rooted. I'd love to be able to use more than "Power Save", "Performance", "Userspace" and "OnDemand" governors. I'd love voltage control and the CPU clocked up to the max stable level, because I feel the CPU is underclocked quite a bit. (maybe for a reason but I don't know).
Is anyone working on a custom kernel for the SM-T530 and SM-T530NU? Is there another way to overclock or add governors and other things or is flashing some sort of custom kernel the only way?
I'm guessing it's a highly difficult thing to do or someone would've created a kernel already. I feel like a lot of people probably have the skills but that they don't have the time and there are not enough of us who have the Tab 4 10.1. Hopefully someone will come out with something, that would be great.
A guy can dream right?
Cheers!
P.S- Much thanks to all those who are developing for the Tab 4 and all other devices! You are awesome.
There is a thread about this matter already in the Q&A section

Hello everyone.
I just thought I'd open a new thread in hope I get some comments and/or replies on this topic. What is your current configurations for your device?
I am asking as I have flashed many ROMs and personally like AEX for its fluidity and sleek design. My main point of this thread is so everyone can gather ideas and knowledge of other users and what they use as their daily driver. But I have found every Android Oreo ROM is a battery drainer.
I also use SmartPack-Kernel with my own tweaks. I am struggling with tweaking the interactive governor though and thought this topic would be a good discussion point so we can get the best from our S5s.
