[Q] Office one note with the N4? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

it is possible to use the Note 4 with Office one note?

OneNote seems to work really well with the stylus. In fact, I'd say it's better than the S Note app, although it doesn't have as many pen options.

Yes OneNote inking works in N4 and that gets synced to desktop OneNote though SkyDrive. Since Microsoft decided not to make OneNote available in my region, I had to sideload.

OneNote Mobile?

Is this meant to be an improvement over the traditional "Notes" application. If so how? Cannot even sketch on it or am I missing something? And will it synch to anything?
Thanks
It syncs with One Note in Office 2007. The mobile version is absolutely terrible compared to the full version. The fact that you can't sketch on it makes it next to useless.
I too find it strange that it will not accept "handwritten" notes or sketches; the kind of TabletPC experience we could have had on the Touch HD with its large display.

[Q] Remote Desktop

hi,
is anyone using their new win 8 tablet with RDP, what's it like connecting to your server, home pc etc?
I'm trying to figure out, do I want to buy an transformer infinity or a windows 8 tablet, probably within then next month or so.
thoughts?
Remote desktop works just fine. From the Surface, I can use the Touch Cover keyboard and trackpad perfectly (as though on a laptop) via Remote Desktop. Touch also works, including the handful of touch gestures supported in Win7, via the Surface's touchscreen. This is using the desktop Remote Desktop program (mstsc.exe), not the TIFKAM (The Interface Formerly Known As Metro) Remote Desktop app. I haven't tried connecting to a server, but I see no reason why it shouldn't work.
One thing to bear in mind, though: the Surface RT has a resolution of 1366x768, which is lower than many desktops and high-end laptops, so it's not great for remoting into a highly multi-tasking-oriented workflow. It's great for smaller jobs, though. Transferring files also works great.
RDP functions pretty much the same as it does on a desktop.
yeah cheers for that. listening it, I may wait out for all pro models :>
I found that for my use - I am an Architect (I use complex x64 programs like AutoCAD, Rhinoceros, Sketchup, Adobe CS, etc), which will have no chance of running on an Atom processor. They would run on i5, but the Surface pro will only get half battery life, and will be thicker/heavier. My options were to spend like $1500 and get a bigger hybrid laptop, or the Surface RT, and use remote desktop to my home computer. I wound up getting Surface RT, and am extremely happy with it thus far (the only thing that is lacking are games. I remote into my desktop computer at home at any time, run remote apps like they were directly installed on my tablet is pretty amazing. There is a slight lag, but not as horrible as using a 3rd party remote desktop app like Teamviewer, or Logmein (which is what i used to use on my ipad - which i have now given to my 3 year old son btw). Granted, you have to have an internet connection to do anything, but I have a 4g smartphone with tethering capabilities, so it will very rarely be an issue for me.
In the end it really depends on what you plan to do with your tablet. The way that I see it, the Android and Ipad tablets only have one advantage over Windows RT - Games, and the number of Apps (but really, what apps do you use on a regular basis, The only ones im missing are Dropbox, Photoshop Touch, and AutoCAD WS). If your like me, and you dont play games that often, and you want to do actual work and produce with a tablet, there is no question which tablet to get - the Surface. The compatibility with printers, mice, keyboards, usb port, expandable storage, full web browser (not bs mobile safari, or chrome), and native remote desktop, and home networking capabilities put it over the top by a lot. And if you are a gamer....I would be patient, MS will further integrate xbox games into this thing, xbox 360 controllers are compatible, and it would make sense to get an xbox emulator working on it directly from MS, with an infinite amount of classic games. Either way, Gameloft, and EA have both announced they would release windows RT versions of their popular games.
Ive tried remote desktop and it works fine.

best office app

Hi i bought my wife a samsung galaxy tab 10.1 2014 edition
ive been using it and really lke it
was thinking of getting one me self to replace my laptop as i work offshore and it would be easyer to take away with me for a month at a time
i like the expandable sd card slot so would be able to save all my films etc to it to watch when am away
the thing thats put me off is office apps
while am away i have to send off my timesheets etc
on my timesheet i have a windows word timesheet with a excel spreed sheet on the inbedded in the word document
on my wifes tab i am yet to find a office program that will let me edit my spreadsheet thats embeeded in word
what offices do you,s all use , and what is the best
I use Documents To Go due to its Bluetooth keyboard integration. The spreadsheet is used about 15 or so hours a week with a Bluetooth keyboard. If keyboard integration is not a consideration, Office Suite or the free ones are OK. If you are looking at moderate to heavy usage (me) then consider a Bluetooth keyboard case (I have a Poetic combination). Before settling on an application, consider your usage of a Bluetooth keyboard followed by compatibility.

Documents To Go's Bluetooth implementation is superior to the rest, though it lacks in the bells and whistle department. It works and is stable.

Try Polaris Office 5 for tablet first because it is free (Samsung apps).
Then you can try Office Suite.
Sent from my SM-P605 using Tapatalk
i like office suite the best, but its too expensive for what it is. Kingsoft is a close second for me and it's free. Quickoffice is ok. Polaris is horrible, mostly because it sucks at rendering pptxs from powerpoint. Couldn't comment on the word processor aspect.
I have used all of the above. I like Office Suite the best and I got it for free during one of Amazon's free app of the day. I have seen it there at least twice for free, but if you have to have a good suite try Office Suite 7. King Office is good, but to me, kind of cumbersome to use. Just my opinion...
Kingsoft worked best for Excel

I have used all of the above as well, specifically OfficeSuite, QuickOffice, Kingsoft Office, Documents to Go, and Polaris. OfficeSuite used to be my favorite until I started having problems editing an Excel worksheet. The formulas were broken and necessary. I started testing all of the office apps with that specific excel (including a few other free office apps that I don't remember) and Kingsoft was the only one that could handle it well. I now only use Kingsoft office and haven't noticed any loss of functionality. It should be noted that I primarily use it for Excel so I can't comment on how it works with PowerPoint or Word. I have viewed PPT files using Kingsoft and that worked well, but did not edit them.
Edited to add documents to go to list of office apps tested.

No. I have a bluetooth keyboard, but I never use it. I almost always have a laptop as well, so ifI need to lo lots of text entry I use that instead. Kingsoft office is free so you could dolwnload it and try it.
I have installed it several times and due to its Bluetooth keyboard support, uninstall it. Thanks though.

Word with Annotation

I love the S-Pen functionality and want a good MS Word compatible application that will allow me to draw annotations on the screen. I have to review loads of docs and want to be able to red-line my stuff. Any suggestions? I have Office Suite Pro 7 and tried Polaris but it didn't seem to work.
Hancom Office.
Thanks! I am giving it a try. I wish they would add the annotation to Google docs.

Some basic questions..

Hello Yoga Book XDA,
I'm looking to buy a YOGA BOOK when it's released but I have a few questions on my mind that we could maybe think about and find an answer to.
1. Do you think, given the fact that there is no hardware difference, we will see dual boot Win10 / Android through XDA developers community? I'm going to be extra excited if this is a future possibility.
2. How do you guys think the X5 Atom processor will fair? I currently have an i3 380UM laptop from 2011 - and the CPU passmark says the X5 is faster (scoring higher). So I guess it's an upgrade for me. The i3 380UM does basic Illustrator and Photoshop without much issues, so I'm very hopeful for the X5.
3. Is the 4G modem standard on the Android and Windows version? Or is it a separately priced model?
That's all for now! Perhaps other people can chime in with their questions and together we can get a Q/A thread going.
Just brought the Android version and tried different app. It's smooth and work great for movie, browsing.
Will try gaming later. Very very minor delay by using the pen, which is OK for me.
it'll be very interesting if it can be dual boot to Win/And
Have you found an alternative supplier for the paper pads?
@black818pro - How do you like the device? I am eyeing it when it's released in the US. Any chance to shoot a quick video review?
Can you use OneNote on Android to take notes on paper? Or is this limited to a lenovo app?
Hi,
I bought the Lenovo Yoga Book Android version WiFi only.
I want to set it up as a productive device (read: buy Android and try if I can do everything what I can do with Win), including MS Office, Google Docs, SSH Client for my Server Management and ez PDF Reader to read and annotate PDFs.
Drawing is not my use case.
Verdict after one week:
HW:
+ hardware is amazing, you can read in the internet
+ battery life is really good
+ keyboard is way better than expected, at least I can type on it quite good.
+ Annotating PDF in a new way: I activate the scratch pad, then I clsoe the small Lenovo Notes window. So I have the PDF on the screen and can annotate it via the still active scratch pad. This way, my hand does not get in the way of my information. Takes some getting used to, but works OK!
- it is not really possible to write directly on the screen, with Lenovos AnyPen technology, you won't have palm rejection on the screen
- the touchpad is not good. I use an external mouse anyway.
SW:
+ Android came a long way considering the use of mouse and keyboard. It really works good
+ Office suites both of Google and MS for Android get everything done that I neeed to do.
+ Switching between Pen and Keyboard mode works reliable.
- Pen in OneNote is lagging A.F.
Edit 13. October:
Actually, note taking in OneNote works perfectly fine, even with a lot of other programs running in the background. See post 16 of this thread. I just re-tested it on @ashwincr's request.

Thanks for the detailed post. I presume you can annotate Google docs and word in the way you describe?
I will check this later!
Hi, I can confirm that I can easily annotate in Word via the drawing tab. I have not found this functionality in Google Docs yet.

Thanks. Weird that Google docs doesn't respond though.
After using the Android version for a while, I dont like the Yoga Book in this configuration. I finally changed to Windows version and find it's more suitable with a keyboard like Yoga.

Can you please explain why the windows version is preferable for you? Is it a simple preference for windows over android through more familiarity with windows, or is it because the implementation of the software works better whilst using windows?

The Version with the 4G modem is a separate model. It has different model numbers
Without 4G (Android) : YB1-X90F

Thanks for the detailed review. So I assume the pen works but is laggy in One Note on Android. I plan on using this a lot for note taking with the pen on the notepad. As long as the notes are captured correctly in OneNote, I am not too concerned if it is laggy. My requirements are for my hand written notes to be captured correctly and later archived in OneNote. Do you think the Android version with One Note will work for this scenario?
ashwincr, I checked OneNote performance once again and found out that it works perfectly smooth.
I made a short screencast of it. I think your use case should be covered! BUY! (no I do not work for Lenovo)

Best chance at the moment is probably to unlock the bootloader, pull stock recovery and with those files port CWM recovery for this device. Then you should be able to flash unsigned files, e.g. SuperSU.
It's quite simple to unlock the bootloader using fastboot, porting CWM...well yeah....anybody out there whose capable???
