Hi i notice my notification light is not a perfect circle when it lights. Anyone notice this on a white note 4?
Sent from my SM-N910U using Tapatalk
Seem the upper left portion of the led is not perfect. When it turns on i can see the lines of the circle is not clearly define where as on the right portion of the led you can see the lines are clear.
Sent from my SM-N910U using Tapatalk
Is it because of the lines that sammy put on the bezel? I have to really look hard to notice.
Less-than-perfect circle aside, the LED notification light is much dimmer on the WHITE Note 4 than my black Note 2 (and it's a smaller circle).
No its not because of the lines. You said it right. Its a less-than-perfect circle. Is it the same as yours?

Maybe on picture it cannot be noticed. on my note 4 you need to look closely to notice.

I tried in dark room but the circle led would glow and more backlight bleed all around the circle and would seem uniform. I can see clearly the circle led definition when viewed on a brightly lit room.

Not an issue. But im thinking theres a defect on the led itself or the way the white part is cut.

Observe on the left side the outlines of the led is kinda fuzzy or somewhat bleeding if thats the way to describe it. On the right side the outlines are clearly visible.

Cannot be clearly seen on the picture. You need to see it in actual close up. Please take a look at yours if you have the same issue. You might not notice it if you dont look at it closely.

I used to have a white note 2. Bleed into the white was very noticeable. Including at night, it would "backlight" the front part into a faint green or blue (depending on led color). Not necessarily a bad thing.
But anyway, I don't believe they changed their material and paint since then, so the white tends to be sort of "transparent" or emanates/radiates led lights beyond the circle

Yes it bleeds on the white note 2 and 4 i know. But please take a look at the outline of the circle coz on my note 4 the outline of the circle is not uniform. On the right side its clearly defined and on the left side its kinda blurry or fuzzy.

Ok, I'm seeing it now on my Note 4, but I don't think there's an issue there. When I look at my black Note 2, it seems that the LED isn't one solid colour, but a mix, so on my yellow notification (for example), it looks yellow on the bottom left side and green on the top right, which gives an appearance that things are off.
I remember this happening on the Galaxy Nexus too, but it wasn't a bother and I don't consider it a defect or anything.

Can any one else see faint vertical bars on the display?
I can see it worse on dark colors.
Is this normal?
You have to look for it to see it but now I've noticed it I see it all the time...

When my phone screen is off, at a specific angle with light bouncing off I can see those bars you're talking about. But it whilst the screen is on
I believe this is what the OP is referring to:

I see them on my screen as well.
Hi, my device is also showing these strange vertical bars, one of them is exact in the middle of the screen. It looks like banding and is mostly visible on grey or darker backgrounds (for example during the loading screen on play store). Today I compared it with a nexus 4 from my local store, which showed the exact same vertical lines. Increasing the brightness makes it even more visible. Is this a common issue due to the design of the display? I've never seen anything like this before on ips panels, my 4xhd was perfectly fine.
Should I RMA?
Can someone post the screenhot?

it is the banding of the display and is present on all devices... it is my first time seeing this on any phone display
im using one of the color configurations posted on xda that makes it a little better i barely notice it now or maybe im just used to it already
I read somewhere that these faint lines are due to the gamma values being set incorrectly on displays. So LG have screwed it up in the factory.
All displays don't have this as some people are saying. My old HTC Hero didn't have it, my ipad 3 doesn't have it, iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, SGS2. All perfect displays. I don't think there's much you can do apart from messing about with colour control but you have to root to do that and it probably won't really make a difference.
My problem is three or four faint wide lines visible on grey or white backgrounds, gonna call Google and ask them what it is.
I can't believe I have fricking burn-in on my screen! I have had the phone less than two weeks and have been loving it but last night noticed lines on the screen. They look to line up exactly with the thread topics list on the Tapatalk app.
I have been using the app a lot but there is no way I should have burn in happening. It's not like I have even left the screen sitting in one place when using the app. My hypothesis is that it might have happened from using the ultra brightness mode (adapt display with maximum brightness on with auto brightness turned on) in bright sunshine and using the Tapatalk app.
I have googled burn in for this screen and haven't seen anything so I wonder if I somehow have a bad screen. It did look great when I first got it. If anyone out there has heard anything about this or can check their screen on a dark grey background I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Got a new phone and the screen is actually a little worse than the original. Has the same white lines across screen when the brightness is turned down in a dark room with a dark grey or similar color on screen. Sent the replacement back and am going to keep the first one. The lines are actually not that easy to see during normal usage and I really like the phone.

Yeah I have had an s2, galaxy nexus and s3 before this and have noticed some screen uniformity issues before. Never had seen the distinctive thin lines like I see on the two s5's I have examined. I was hoping to have just got a lemon but now that I have seen another new one that actually looked a little worse it has actually eased my mind a bit even though my OCD wants everything perfect.

Know the feeling. It freaks me out every time I use Tapatalk.
They also show up when you use a paint app and fill the screen with +-80% brightness with the screen brightness below 30%
However, they disappear when you turn the brightness of the screen up, (and compensate the black to 80% again) so it's just a bit of an error in the led calibration.
The area below the notification bar also has it when you run the colour tests after dialing *#0*#.
It's more predominantly visible on the S5 and Note 3 because those screens have the highest contrast ratio.
I'm horribly OCD over my devices too. There's a 0.5mm distance-to-screen difference between the edges of my screen protector... It bothers me every single day! >.<

Funny you should say that I just got one of those tempered glass screen protectors and was amazed that I got it on without any dust or air bubbles. Unfortunately it is also off a fraction to one side and also doesn't quite line up perfectly around the home key. I am so tempted to try to fix it every day but I know I should just leave it alone. ?

That would be great or if anyone else can. On Note 2 Samsung apparently made up for natural lack of visibility on white background with stronger led light, it was not a problem. On Note 3 they forgot about that. I hope they remebered again on Note 4.

Can anyone compare the led on their black Note 4 to what has been said in here?
I believe this thread just proves how good this phone really is... No big issues, just small ones.
And to answer the OP question - I have a white Note 4 and I find it hard to see the LED in the sun. Not that I really care - a quick push of the button and I can see if I have any notifications.
Pictures for comparison.

Hello.
So I've noticed a strange thing while adjusting the screen brightness manually. When you slide the brightness slider it seems like there are individual brightness steps. And each step affects the screen colors differently.
Try it yourself. Like when you slowly slide the brightness slider, focus on the quick toggles background. It changes color slightly with each brightness step. It's very slight and you got to be in a dark room to notice it.
Does it happen on your note 3 too? Is it normal or is mine defective?
Thanks
That's called physics.
Colour is nothing more than light. The less light, the less colour.
Ever noticed how your eyes see everything in black and white in the dark? How the world becomes more monotone whenever there is less less?

I don't mean less colour, but different colour tint with nearly each brightness step, some brightness levels got green tint, some blue and some red. It's hard to explain you have to try it yourself.
It's best noticeable when you download some 3rd party brightness slider adjuster and adjust the brightness while seeing your homescreen and not the almost black notification panel.

I'm using LUX. Right now I'm at -56%(My night setting) and the hue is slightly green. It always makes my blue SwiftKey keyboard a very peculiar sea-green.
Which is still perfectly normal.
You are aware that screens are composed of Red, Green and Blue LEDs?
And that brightness is determined by how much light is emitted by each LED?
Naturally each step will have a slightly different hue.
The three don't blend their light into one, there will always be one of the three LEDs that is the dominant colour.

So in conclusion this is normal? Is this just another disadvantage of AMOLEDs display?

Yes, it's normal.
It's more a disadvantage of the Diamond Subpixel configuration. AMOLED isn't at fault, it's the matrix configuration Samsung uses that causes this.
It features size difference in the three colours. As you change the brighness, one colour will overpower the other. The S4 and S5 have the same configuration, as does the Note 4.

Okay thanks for the explanation.
I have had my Verizon 64 GB Note 5 for about 6 days now and since day 1 I have noticed that the screen color when on a white background is not uniform. My phone appears to have a section that has a red hue to it around the left side and more of a blueish hue to the right side of the screen. It is very noticeable on anything with a white background. I seem to notice it the most when I am reading text. I have gone back to the Verizon store I got the phone from and looked at their demo model and it seems to have the same issue. I also went to my local Best Buy and looked at 3 other Note 5's and all except one of Best Buy's seemed to have the issue.
Pull up a white background on your Note 5. Do you see this? I am going to take my phone back and swap it out this weekend, But with so many that I have seen with the issue I am not confident that the new one will be any better.
EDIT: Added poll
Got some pics of mine. NOTE!!!! Pictures do slightly exaggerate the issue

Most likely a defective screen, go get it warrantied. I have seen display defects for all brands.

I wonder if a bad batch got shipped to my area? It's strange that 4/5 of the phones that I looked at had the issue. This is making me hopeful that I will get a good one when I go swap it out
Yes I have the same issue, imported phone from Singapore.
My 32gb Verizon model has this, except it's my right half of the screen that has the reddish hue. I'm planning on swapping it for a 64gb before my 14 days are up anyway, or else I'd have already returned it. It's incredibly annoying while reading text.
It's like the matrix effect. Once you've taken the blue pill you can't ignore it. I see tinting on every single amoled device I look at now.

Ha! I have been looking at all my co workers phones and I do see uneven back lighting on almost all of them but none have 2 distinctly different colors on each side of the screen like the Note 5 does. I could handle the uneven back lighting but the 2 colors on the Note 5 make me cringe every time I look at it for more than a few seconds. My co worker's iPhone 6 plus has a fairly uneven backlight from left to right but there are no specific colors illuminated more than others so it's easy to ignore at least for me.

I don't see any discoloration on my screen. Did I get the only good unit?

I will see if I can get a picture of it but I am not sure if a camera would pick it up. It's fairly subtle. Either way it's still annoying.
Deleted since I thought I had discoloration but didn't after having a few co-workers take a look at my phone.

Got some pictures... Added them to the OP
You know what's weird. I owned a Note 4 on 3 of the 4 big carriers and the AT&T one was the only one that was bearable. It seems like its not as bad on the Korean models, which seem to be exclusive to AT&T.
This is what it looks like on mine
I have the 64gb White from AT&T and I cannot see this at all on mine. Colors look fairly cool throughout, not seeing any discoloration or even uneven backlighting.
no discolouration from what i can tell. though i do notice the colours (or WB) of the panel are different than my S6e panel which is warmer in all Display Modes (at full brightness).
