I dont think the Tegra 2 can handle high quality 1080p files so no .....
If you check around there are plenty of threads detailing what will or wont play
As advertised by asus:
"NVIDIA® Tegra™ 2 1.0GHz dual-core CPU for excellent multitasking & 1080p video playback
Android 3.0 Honeycomb O.S. with Adobe® Flash® 10.2 support*2
Full QWERTY keyboard, touchpad input with Polaris® Office® for mobile productivity
16 hours*1 long battery life for all day computing with docking station
Brilliant IPS panel with ultra-wide 178⁰ viewing angle made from scratch resistant and super tough glass
One year of Unlimited ASUS WebStorage, two USB ports, SD and Micro SD card readers for easy sharing & storage expendability
3D stereo with max bass response with SRS premium sound"
So, 1080p playback is supported.
On every tablet (Tegra 2) forum there are thousands threads about this.
HD playback (specifically mkv h.264) problem is not an Android issue but Tegra 2.
Although advertised as above it has its playback limitations.
1080p only if it is BASE PROFILE
720p only if it is MAIN Profile or below.
99.9% of videos available to download are 720p. HIGH Profile and this is not decoded with hardware acceleration.
SOLUTION:
1. Reencode your videos to tegra 2 friendly format: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102922
2. Wait and buy next gen tab with Tegra 3 inside (or equal)
3. Wait for Android 3.2 or ICS - they will have support for SOC's different than Tegra 2 (like Qualcomm). Hopefully this SOC platform will not have playback limitations of Tegra 2.

video: XBMC running on the Ouya shot by XBMC team dev.

Didn't see a post with this, this is the main reason I backed the ouya.
http://youtu.be/QB-H4j9hfLE
Not a big deal, even my Galaxy Nexus with the XBMC hardware accelerated test build stream 720p over UPnP smoothly. I went ahead and bought an MK808 stick, but might get an Ouya when it's released for better hardware and quality control.
Sent from XDA app
Cool video. This is my main reason for buying the OUYA as XBMC is the only way I have found to stream movies to my kids PC while preserving the DVD menus and subtitles. I would rather my 6, 8 and 10 year old sons not handle my DVDs directly so I store all their movies on a 3TB hdd... can't wait for this to get in in June.
Awesome to have xbmc, that will go great with an external HD for offline media. I wonder if a usb DVD or Blueray will work in the OUYA?

[Q] TV for Shield

I need to buy a new TV so if I want to use it with Nvidia Shield is there any important parameters of it like input lag or other?
I saw on the forum that it doesn't worth to buy Shield if you don't have 4K TV. Really is it true?
I don't think that I can afford 4K TV
I wouldn't agree that it's not worth buying without 4K, we've only got a 32 inch 720p samsung tv and I'm very happy with the shield.
if you have any issues with audio sync, there's an option to adjust it in the shield's settings.
There's more to TVs and streaming boxes than the amount of pixels they can display. You absolutely don't need a 4k TV to enjoy Shield's other features.
Do I need to find TV with low input lag like for ps console?

Nvidia shield tv pro upscaling question

Hello there.
So I have a Nvidia shield tv pro which does a great job upscaling HD content to 4k. I currently use a 4k oled television so it works hand in hand.
This weekend I am upgrading to the 2019 model of Samsung QLED 8k television series.
So my question is. How will shield decide upscaling, will both the TV and shield work against each other, which device will have priority in upscaling. Would turning off upscaling on the shield make it better?
Also would things be clearer or better straight from the TV apps due to shield being made for 4k? Currently buying a 8k HDMI cable to put into the shield from the TV too if that helps.
Hopefully I can get some insight.
The Nvidia shield tv only supports HDMI 2.0b which supports 4k at 60hz and either doesn't support 8k or only supports it at 30hz. I doubt the shield supports 8k output atall. I would say to leave nvidias scaling on and see how it does it will upscale to a maximum of 4k on its own then the tv will do the rest.
Always let the TV do the upscaling. The processor and algorithms will be better than the Shield's as the manufacturer knows what to do with the pixels based on its design. All 8K TVs know how to upscale from 4K because there isn't any 8K content.

Fire Stick 4K & Webcam ?

Amazon adds webcam support to the Fire TV Cube
Amazon says it wants to help improve an unconventional holiday season with easier video calls.
www.theverge.com
With news that amazon is rolling out webcam support for fire tv cube, is there a chance they will eventually bring it to the Firestick ?
I think I read that zoom will eventually be fully fucntioning on Fire TV 'soon' (video and audio)
If they were to bring webcam support to the Firestick 4k, it would be icing on the cake - the 'ultimate' device.
Maybe with the OS 7 update for Firestick 4k next year ? I am not even sure if the Firestick has enough horsepower to support a webcam
