just curious, has anybody use this as a primary phoneentirely replacing your smartphone? (to make phonecall, sms etc)
considering using a bluetooth headset means that the bluetooth on the tab needs to be on all the time?
how about the battery life from the experience? can it last a day like a normal smaller smartphone?
considering this to be my primary (dont mind if its dorky ^^)
originally prefer desire hd or hd7 but i did have a "big phone" fetish and suddenly this tab comes into consideration lol
also desire hd has a struggle on battery life too, if this 4400mah is better than desire hd, then why not?
thanks before
The tab is great as a phone if you carry a bag with you.
It will fit in your pocket but it will stick out.
I use it as day to day phone but certainly not a phone i would use when going out to bar for example.
I have a BT HBH-DS980 and i like this model because it is not around my ear all day long and has a good range with a small caller ID screen.
It works great with the Tab. sound quality is good.
As for battery life, as a heavy use i get about 1.5 days of moderate to heavy use.
To sum it up, it is a phone for day to day (going to the office etc..) but it is not a phone for every occasion.
1.5 day huh, nice ^^
at least its not struggling with 1230mah desire hd had and for some who can't even reach a full day use
using the hbh-ds980, do you need to turn the bluetooth on all the time on the tab, or you can just activate it via hbh just when you want to answer call?
the thing is if you want to make call, then sure, fired up the bluetooth and make calls
but when you receiving, is it too much hassle to turn on bluetooth 1st on the device and then the hbh?
fyi, never need to use bluetooth headset before, so im a full fledged newbie on this thing
is the 1.5 day use with bluetooth on all the time? (thinking logically that bluetooth will eat up battery, would be amazed if its on all time and you get 1.5 day)
I assume you are using the Tab with AT&T. Do you have good reception with 3G? Since it only has the 1900 band.

Leaving WIFI enabled appears to have little impact on battery life.
I have an old Motorola Cliq at my house that I charged fully, enabled WIFI, and left on my dresser for a period of time. It was NOT configured to connect to a wifi network, and often displayed a wifi notification of an open access point.
The fully-charged CLIQ managed nearly thirteen days before refusing to power on.
The additional load of enabling WIFI appears to be somewhere near 8% a day in this limited test.
Well, this is all well and good, but a cliq ain't a G2...

Anyway, g2 results coming in a week or so.

WIFI will actually SAVE battery power (assuming it is connected). An easy way to take advantage of this through the Y5 program that will automatically turn on/off your WIFI based on previously remembered networks. It was free last I checked.
WIFI is less battery intensive then a 3G connection.
I've noticed something, hope someone can confim this; I've used my 7.7 tab with a SIM card inserted but removed it last week as I'm waiting to get a new SIM in the mail from a different provider. It seems that when there's no SIM in it the tab uses more power, the battery is drained quickly.
I'm using a custom ROM on it (Tweaked Stock for GT-P6800 Version 2.0)
Anyone out there who can confirm this?
cheers

I can confirm this, all samsung tabs seem to use more power when there is no sim card in them. You can try to enable airplane mode, this should turn radio off, but you can still enable wifi.

yes i can confirm my tab is consuming more power its like 10-15% an hour only wifi is working browsing internet
so i should consider putting a sim card to prevent hig drain of battery
turning airplane mode doesn't help
if someone can confirm it ?
I can confirm that even turning airplane mode when a simcard is present is causing higher power drain which is totally weird.

There's a mobile network setting and use packet data enable/disable it concerns also battery
Did anybody try switching radio off via the "test menu"? (dial *#*#info#*#*)
Sorry if this is a silly question. Just gathering info before deciding what version to get. I'm presuming that the WiFi ones don't have a sim slot at all, so this affects just the 3g ones? Did think that is was odd that I have heard a lot of people say that battery life is very good and some like yourselves say the hourly consumption is high.

This is pretty lame. I wonder if I used a non active sim, how it would behave. I don't want to buy a plan right now.

This is not a question per say but more of wondering. I see the specs are fantastic for this and boasts an amzing batt life. I am able to upgrade and don't need a tablet sized phone. Already have a rooted nook tab!!
So for all you that have this, is this what you expected and what are your experiences? And how are the smart actions?
Mod if you think this belongs in the Q & A section please move and my applogies.
Using it daily like how I using on my DX with 1900mAh battery. My DX last no more than 7 hours like how I'm using this. You will see it charged for short time cuz I was transferred some saved files to my RAZR SDcard. But, it last me pretty damn good.

I love the Razr M so far in every way *except* the battery life. I've been off charge since around 9:30am -- it's 2:30pm now and I'm already down to 50% with light to moderate use.
Then again, I am coming from the Razr MAXX, which would still have 30-50% battery left when I hit the sac.
After they made the MAXX, I don't get why they'd ever make anything else with less battery than that. Who doesn't want more battery life?
I'd easily and gladly like with the added phone thickness. It was barely noticable on the Razr, and the Razr M would still be perfectly sized even if it was 25% thicker with MAXX-like battery capacity.
For the size of the battery and the internals, I'd say it's solid. Not "out of this world", but definitely good for what it is. Signal strength in your area obviously plays a part (which, signal strength appears it could be an issue... possibly). It also idles really well.
Thanks for all the input. I am coming from a droid incredable..the first one. Just want to make it a day or so on a batt and not have to charge it all day. Plus from what I read you can really customize when it uses and not uses data.....

Llama is way better than smart actions. Smart Actions does not even 10% of what Llama can do. check it out on Google (Play) App Store.
They seem to do the same thing actually smart actions can do all the things that were listed if you set them up for a profile. Looks like a good alternative if this phone didn't come with smart actions.

Speaking of Smart Actions, at the risk of hijacking the thread...:
There's one for "Connected to WiFi" but there isn't one for "Disconnected from WiFi" so I can make a rule to shut off Mobile Data when I connect to WiFi but I can't make one to reactivate Mobile Data when I'm *not* connected to WiFi and it won't do it on it's own without a reverse rule for it.
Anyone have a way around this?
Any help appreciated - thanks!

There's no need to shut off mobile data when WiFi is on... Android does it automatically. No need to use a smart action for it. If you stop doing it I can virtually guarantee you will not see any hit to your battery.

I don't understand how people are having issues with the battery like at all? Unplugged since 7am with one charge for like 10 minutes (which made it go up 5%) with heavy usage (texting, social networks, forum app, wifi) and I'm at 31% its 1030 pm right now...

You don't think it uses battery? I take your word for it but it does seem strange it wouldn't save battery to turn off the data radio. Even a little. It still tracks the signal strength and shows the icon. Not trying to pick a fight..

I don't think it does. I used to test it on various devices because I too figured it must save battery life, but ultimately I could never detect any battery improvement at all.

No such thing as an exclusive data radio... if you're on 4G, 3G, or whatever... that very same radio signal is also used for voice and text... so yes the phone needs to track the signal strength and connection to the tower just to keep you reachable for plain old ordinary phone calls and text messages.
I've been testing the device for about a month now and I'd like to help the community. If anyone could help me help you, help us all, I'd be willing.
Also I can try to answer any questions you might have about the device before you purchase it. It really is lovely.

Does it really have always listening capabilities when the screen is off? And could you do a video of it? I think we would all appreciate it very much.
Question, is it the same type of charging plug as a galaxy note 3 or is it something new. Because I hear there's a faster charging process now

Do you have the T-Mo variant? If so, is it loaded with bloat. Is the bootloader unlocked?
If it's the international (with snapdragon chip), does T-Mo LTE work?
Thanks.

As far as listening capabilities, I'm not 100% sure. "Ok Google" doesn't work when the screen is off... However maybe I need to explore more of the S Voice feature. I'll look into it while I prepare a video for ya'll - I'll try to get that done sooner than later.

The port changed back to USB 2 - I know wtf, right? Apparently too many people complained about the usb 3 port not being compatible - HA. Guess people didn't know you could still use a micro usb 2.0 connector? It does however charge just as fast when using AC.

It's the tmo variant - bloat is unfortunately about the same as the Note 3 - T-Mobile vvm, my account, tv, name id, all the google apps, - literally all of them, facebook... no messenger, and that's about it.
The bootloader being locked - I'm not sure, I'd like to find out. How?

They changed the usb cable to a normal one, no more thick cable with the strange
wide plug... Samsung added a quick chargiing method which can charge the phone
50% full in 30 minutes, meaning that if the battery is drained it can fully charge it
in about an hour.
I always hated the new wide usb plug for the usb cable, a few days after purchasing
the Note 3 I found out that the normal old usb cable with the mini usb plug could can
be used on Note 3, I know the wide plug and the thick cable were meant to be used with
USB 3.0 however I tested the time it took to copy a 2GB file using my computer's usb 3.0
and the note 3's special thick usb cable and found that there was virtually no difference in
copying the 2GB file, and there was no difference in charging time.
I seriously doubt that it will fully charge in an hour. It makes sense if you do the math but there has to be a catch.
Yes the 50% in a half hour is correct but it switches to trickle charging at some point and thus takes longer.
This I think is just the built-in fast charging of the snapdragon 805, same as other phones.

Have you tried using GPS while charging the phone? I am considering switching from LG G3 to Note 4 specifically because G3 overheats when using GPS and charging at the same time. I'd rather not spend a bunch of money if Note 4 does the same thing.
Thank you.

If you're talking about using it in your car, my S5 does heat up quite a bit. It doesn't shut down or anything, but with the screen on full brightness, GPS running and charging wirelessly, it heats up a LOT. Keep in mind this is in 95 degree weather with the AC never really touching the phone.

Yes in the car. And I understand that it will heat up. The problem is if it's heating up to the point of stopping charging, because on a long trip (just when you need the GPS most) you can't use this functionality. My use case is exactly as you described - So Cal weather, full brightness (because sun), wireless charging and GPS. I know that's pushing the envelope, but for the price, I expect it to be able to do it.

It might since the 805 is a newer chip, but still, the note 4 screen is insanely bright. You have to see it to know what I mean.

Air Vent Mount
This should definately keep the phone cool, not sure how you're wireless charging is setup, but you can always cable charge and then a universal vent mount will keep it super cool.
