Just a heads up.... you're not allowed to post in this subforum unless you are the developer who has developed something to share with others.
This thread should have been posted in the Q&A or General subforum.
With that said, if you want 4.4.4 then you have to wait for it to be released for Note 3 drivers/firmware or you need to flash an AOSP ROM.

I don't understand why you want a ported rom, just porting the UI, apps etc is enough for me. We're never going to have the full functionality of the Note 4

We have S5 ported Rom. Why not Note 4?

Because the S5 UI was something new. The Note 4 UI is going to be exactly the same as the S5. Why not just grab the Note 4 apps and install on an S5 rom....bam you have your Note 4 port. Fingerprint reader won't work, heart rate monitor won't work, better display is non transferable between devices, the camera will always stay the same (13mp), no boost to the GPU, no boost to the CPU. I honestly can't see anything new in the Note 4 rom from the S5 rom.

Proper port would be nicer than just an app install, maybe more stable and no need to mess with apps.

I agree with the s-pen features etc I honestly can't see anything new being ported. Stripped of the better camera, display, CPU, heart rate monitor etc it's just another S5 port lol

I just want all the new multitasking things like the Recents and the Penwindow enhancements.

From what I understand there must be some new lockscreen effects too but I'm not sure also from a user's perspective it would be simpler to have a note 4 ported rom instead of flashing over the needed apps mods boot animation etc etc to make a 4.4.2 room look like a note 4 rom my opinion of course no harm intended but from a devs perspective it wouldn't be same case I believe. ..

Is Google's Stock S4 comparable to i9500?

Google announced a pure stock android version of the S4 phone. Does this mean all the Samsung features like "TV Remote", smart camera and its features, multi window, air view, air gesture, smart scroll .. etc will be completely removed in google's stock version?
Yes they will be removed. It will be pure AOSP Android which it is running. And the hardware will be the Qualcomm version very likely (i9505)
I know Samsung's software takes a lot of space and is not "beautiful", but the S4 is what it is because of all those features.. AOSP makes it faster and more reliable, I just dont think i would like to swich to a google gs4 while i already got this one
Everyone has its preferences.
For me, all the features of Samsung are completely useless.
What features will be in there is unknown at the moment.
Google could write their own remote control app.
We'll see....

But you could perhaps flash an AOSP rom and install apps that do almost exactly what the stock rom does, and enjoy the best of both. :good: Camera app is the only one I'll miss.

Nexus ROMs still utilize the device's abilities so I'd imagine the sensors will still be usable either out of the box or via Play Store or even Samsung store apps.

Not really.
The Samsung apps require Touchwiz framework which means it will have stock aosp camera, and no those modifications that are on touchwiz.

Still, the sensors will work, you bet on that, maybe via external apps. Remote control and weather measurement abilities, these are HW related stuff, and won't be rendered useless.

It's not comparable to I9500 but to the I9505 (because it has LTE).
I9505 has CM10.1 already, so yeah... Nothing special.
I9500 has Exynos which is not well documented and aosp will never run well on it.

[Q] Stock Android with couple of select Samsung apps, dream come true

Sorry, this is not a statement rather a wish.
Can anyone guide us noobs and un-initiated S4 owners on how to get stock android on the device and the best samsung apps like the dual camera shot etc working?
I am not a fan of the lag at all. I hate that samsung phones are so sluggish despite their claims of the fastest processors around.
NOTHING BEATS THE NEXUS 4 HANDS DOWN..
Perhaps we can achieve close to the Nexus 4 benchmarks with getting the S4 down to the bare minimum?
Any thoughts?

Benchmarks dont mean jack. If your after numbers go get a Nexus 4. Either use AOSP or a very refined TouchWiz ROM. Also, I must be the only person here in XDA that doesn't have a "laggy" Galaxy S4. My "last year" Note II doesn't even lag so I should see no problem with yours. Maybe its ther user than the phone? Turn S Voice off and make the animation scales all at 0.5x.
AOSP with Samsung wont go. It requires the Samsung framework

I'd like to keep the S4 thanks. The Nexus 4 benchmarks is not what I am after. What I am after is a fast OS which does not lag when moving from screen to screen or doing just the basic functions like going to the call or text app. Have you seen the time it takes to render the photos that the phone itself has taken?
Hit the home button, there is always a half a second lag no matter what.
All animations and S Voice turned off.
Yes, it seems like its the user not the phone in your case too. Have you ever owned a Nexus 4?

I also have no lag at all.
I have the device rooted, but I did not remove anything, actually.
I am quite surprised by the responses here.
Since no one has disputed the liquidity and smoothness of the Nexus 4, let me re-phrase my question.
How can we get the S4 to be as fast as the Nexus 4?
I would like to keep the S4 but I want to be as fast as the Nexus 4.
1. Fast fluid response to swiping home sceen
2. no lag when you press apps icon
3. no lag on swiping apps
4. no lag when you press home button
5. no lag in rendering photos in gallery (when you swipe to a new picture, it is blurry for a second or 2 while it renders and then shows full resolution)
6. no lag in phone and messaging apps
All animation fixes and S_voice already done but lag still experienced.
Please advise.

Why would he do that when the S4 has significantly higher results in all benchmarks?
Im confused as well I am sorry I do not understand why you would want the S4 to be like the Nexus when the S4 has no issues I have 3 S4s they are all smooth with no lag and run fast between screens going on the web all is well here..........I haven't even rooted my phone yet lol

I think you fail to realise that there is a significant lag in all S4s, you are immune to it because you don't know any better.

ex Note 2 ATT onwers please let me know what you think after a while with note 3

hi!
So I can upgrade to Note 3 for about $150 and would like to know, how the experience has been for you guys.
Coming from Rom and kernel flashing addiction I might feel a bit trapped with note 3 but then again, with so much power, OCing may not be as exciting as it was on Note 2 to run MAME reloaded for example or some higher end games.
Thanks for any comments.
Regards
I had note 2 and now note 3. Used to run clean rom on note 2 and loved it. After upgraded to note 3, I realized that I don't need any custom rom or kernel on this phone. It's perfect with just rooted, debloated and wanam exposed. Everything I want the phone to be and very happy with it.
That being said, I still do miss flashing custom rom though. Hope near future, we can get unlocked bootloader
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
Only thing I miss is playing around with OC'ing. Not really necessary on the 3. Really was not necessary on the 2 either.
Non of the ROM's could compare to the stock debloated ROM on the note 2 for battery life (they were close), and I would expect similar results if we were to get the boot loader unlocked. The difference was small so the features/benefits of a custom ROM far outweighed staying stock.
With root and xposed modules on the note 3, don't see the need to flash a custom ROM. A custom kernel would be nice though that would allow Playing with clock speeds and the like.

I agree with what everyone said. I remember you from the Note 2 threads, and I know you were in the kernel threads quite a bit helping people out and maxing out your Note 2, lol.
I honestly don't see any lag whatsoever with rooting, debloating, and using wanam exposed like the guys above mentioned. I never even used xposed installer or wanam until I got the note 3. I'm actually surprised I never tried it on the Note 2. It's very useful. I guess I never had to considering I was always flashing roms and themes that took care of the customizations.
$150 is worth the upgrade in my honest opinion. I'm sure somewhere somehow a bootloader unlock is around the corner in some computer genius's lair, lol. Despite that, you won't be disappointed with the stock. I use Nova Launcher and customized my DPI with xposed and rom toolbox lite. Really makes everything look great to me. Everything works just like on my Note 2, even flash. Just make a titanium backup of your Note 2 for your apps and make sure that folder is on your sdcard, then transfer that folder to your sdcard and your phone memory, and you're good to restore. Unless you prefer starting fresh, up to you. I restored my Nova launcher preferences with the apps quite easily to keep the same look. So it wasn't a big change for me visually except a much crisper screen. The camera is amazing. I've taken 4K video and it's just great. Battery life is solid too despite being stock. It also is lighter than the Note 2 so that's a plus as well.
Thanks all guys. I am close to pulling the trigger now. It was not in my mind because my biggest wish was a 6" screen but for $150, it is more tempting now

As long as you can root it (I found the MI9 de la vega files archived on other sites), I find the N3 much superior to the N2. Better screen (much better outdoors), better in-hand feel, better S-view cover and back material, and about the same battery life (though that's a custom ROM N2 vs. stock ROM N3).
For me, rooting is needed to lower the dpi to an appropriate value as the stock 480 wastes so much of the screen. If I had to pick between a customized N2 and a totally stock N3, that'd be a harder decision for me.
One other oddity I've found is that many of the videos that played fine on HW decoding on my Note 2 require SW decoding on the Note 3 (mostly for sound, but sometimes for video as well). Not a big deal as the quality is the same and the Note 3 has power to spare, but just a bit odd.
The occasional security prevention message is annoying, but it's easy enough to long press, clear data, and have it disappear for a while. Generally comes back after a reboot and I have to do the above again.
Like mutantblack, I use to have note 2 with Clean Rom. Never needed a rom but Clean Rom was simply awesome. It saved me a lot of time debloating. Now with note 3, root+wanam+xposed is like Clean Rom all over again.

Hey man I'm gonna take it from your post your rooted...Just download root app delete from the play store...Open it up...Go into system apps...and disable all 4 Knox apps...Once they're disabled those messages will dissappear...
As to the op...I still have my att note 2 and now have att note 3...The biggest improvements for me are the camera, which is so much better than note 2 in terms of clarity, speed, and color reproduction it's amazing...2nd is the s pen finally has the precision and feel of true writing...lastly is the experience of tw; on note 2 I found I needed apex launcher and many rooted customizations to make the note 2 perform how I felt it should given its already great hardware. With note 3 I still run apex occasionally but love the improved tw experience, lag free, fast, and clean on note 3
What I miss of note 2, the battery life. The batter life on my Note 2 was astounding. With note 3 I find I only get about 3 to 4 hours of on screen time vs 5 to 5.5 hours on note 2. But this can be remedied with another backup batter and for all the note 3 offers in terms of speed, gorgeous 1080 screen, and features galore it's an easy tradeoff.
So summing up, note 2 was a major bump over note 1, but note 3 set a new standard in my eyes for what a super phone is. Note 3 hands down...and in time I feel well have some form of cwm and romming but maybe not at the level of note 2, though as others have mentioned it's really not necessary anymore. Samsung hit it outta the park with note 3.
Mega
Remember you can always buy a T-mobie note 3 and run it on ATT AMD then you can still flash your Roms and kernels. You could get your ATT upgrade then sell that for a T-Mobile device, that's what I did.

The stock rom runs better than a few custom roms,.... However we do not have custom kernels nor can we flash different ROM due to the boot loader being locked. In my opinion the phone is a lot snappier smooth here and the screen is a helluva lot better. Remote control features amazin and the battery is even better than my note 2. However route is a must and either the leading or freezing the extra bloatware is necessary to achieve such performance

Yes yes and yes agreed with that I upgraded and paided for the full 750 I know I know lol but I think it was worth it here's a couple of more things to Note
1. The screen is drop dead gorgeous!! Omfg I love this screen!!
2.Its faster "duh"
3.The camrea is very good too!! Love the camera )
4. Same battery life "CANT WAIT for ZeroLemon and case!!
Its up to you but yes I think its worth enough
As a former note2 owner who bought the note3 on release day, I think it boils down to how important flashing custom roms is to you. I have my note3 rooted and really debloated and it is running awesome. And I thought that would be good enough for me. But last week I bought an LGG2 so that I could continue flashing and tweaking stuff. Even though this phone is the perfect hardware I am really irritated that I am not allowed to choose what software to run on it. So tomorrow when the g2 arrives this phone will probably go into a desk drawer or to one of my kids until someone can resolve the custom recovery issue.
But this is a hobby for me. Im the guy who installs whatever the latest distro of Linux came out this month and I rarely have a machine running the same distro longer than 90 days. ..so im kind of a freak like that.

Sorry it was not an offer, I was calculating selling mine and getting a used note 3.
Note 2 with cm 11 kit kat was awsome. Daughter broke phone and insurance sent the 3. Sucks with locked bootloader.

With Xposed, Wanam, Safe Strap, Apex or other decent launcher and a Kit Kat theme or two there REALLY isnt a need for custom roms. The Note 3 can have pretty much any system mod and tweak any rom would bring and you wont lose the IR Blaster support thats built in and Safe Strap allows you the capability to backup the current state before tweaking.

[Q] galaxy s5's ultra power saving mode for note 3

Does note 3 has a rom that contains ultra powersaving mode? And notification panel from the s5? My note 2 has dn3 rom which contain the s5 ultra power saving mode and notification toggles. I want want my note 3 looks like s5 on ui. There is some mod on the note 3 s5 theme but it is not exactly the same like the s5. Why note 2 have it?? How about us? Thanks but thats the launcher. I think what we are all looking for is a complete gray scale system that would work with apps, etc. When the battery is low or when you active it.
I admit that 80% of the time I don't need colors on my phone.
I believe these two custom ROMs have it implemented.

Galaxy S6 PORT!!!

I wish and I hope any of our amazing developers can see this post as I want to know if its possible to PORT any GALAXY S6 ROM. With the new light weight TouchWiz version our Note 4 will perform even better and I guess battery life will be even greater. Please XDA community and Devs make this happen...Thanks in advance...Please comment anything related...lets make this happen, Thanks XDA community and XDA Developers.
You do realize that those ports are always less stable? Theming it and adapting various stuff is no problem, but it's better to wait for the official thing. Personally I don't hold high hopes that any "if" port will work really amazing well.

Porting parts of a new framework is one thing, but the new TouchWiz is radically different. Plus the immensely upgraded hardware contributes to the fluidity. If you just port parts of the framework, it will look like it, but feel like it as well? Maybe to some parts, but it's not just the new TouchWiz which makes the S6 fly [emoji14]
Powered by SimplRom and SimplKernel.
There's an active work to port S6 firmware to our Note 4. It's called "GlamourROM" and it's made by the XDA user @henrylife
While the rom is working, there're actually some major bugs here and there:
1) Front camera doesn't work
2) Grid View in launcher
3) SMS crash while writing longer messages
4) Framework's missaligned layouts
5) S-Pen doesn't properly work/it's not enabled in settings
6) Lockscreen effects
7) Automatic brightness

There's an active work to port S6 firmware to our Note 4. It's called "GlamourROM" and it's made by the XDA user @henrylife
While the rom is working, there're actually some major bugs here and there:
1) Front camera doesn't work
2) Grid View in launcher
3) SMS crash while writing longer messages
4) Framework's missaligned layouts
5) S-Pen doesn't properly work/it's not enabled in settings
6) Lockscreen effects
7) Automatic brightness
You can see all the work here . Cheers!
