I have a rooted s5 on. I've been having issues with streaming videos pausing roughly every minute. I first noticed this in the Youtube app, but it happens for all applications that stream video. I am 100 percent certain that this is not a buffering issue and it is not related to smart pause which I have triple checked is not active. Any theories as to what's causing this?
I actually just figured it out. It was being caused by an Android Wear email checking app called Wear Mail. Every time the app checks the server for new emails, it causes whatever video streaming service that I have running to pause.
Good work finding out ill have to remove that app

Hi all,
First of all (pertinent): I have the following options set on my phone:
Wi-Fi Sleep Policy: Never
Battery Mode: Performance
Data Delivery: Background data on, Data enabled
Now... I've got an issue where music streaming services seem to stop buffering when I'm on Wi-Fi and the screen is off. Happens with both Pandora and Rdio. I've definitely done my due diligence on this issue and nothing seems to help. It is like the settings I've specified above have no effect. Interestingly, if I'm on cellular data, there doesn't seem to be a problem.
I do not stream at home, so at first I thought it was my work Wi-Fi only, but it DOES stream when the screen is on and the song will finish. It is only when the song ends and it tries to buffer a new song that it just hangs until I wake the screen.
I had this issue with stock 1.83, and in every other ROM/radio combo I've tried (now on Ken's Beta #4).
Any suggestions? Maybe something in a database?
Have an option to increase your buffer in your player?

No, unfortunately there is no way in the Pandora or Rdio players to increase the buffer (that I have seen). Alas, that would only be a workaround. I also don't think that would help. It seems to be that data completely stops flowing for these programs when the screen is off.
may sound dumb but try changing timeout on screen off and reinstalling your apps. also ask somebody more knowledgeable if there are any tweaks in the root folder that might have something to do with this. but that is another problem. finding somebody who may know.
Thanks for the reply. The screen timeout does not do anything except prolong the inevitable. I have tried to reinstall both apps -- no success.
Has anyone else had this happen to them?
So I recently got a new truck which has the ability to stream audio over bluetooth. I LOVE this. However, I'm also being driven to the brink of insanity. First my stock "music" app starts playing automatically and it's usually a ringtone. I have to manually stop it everytime this happens. At first I noticed it would happen once it would connect to bluetooth. Now I notice if I take a call or place a call via bluetooth, it starts up again.
My next step was to try and kill the app via tasker anytime I connected to bluetooth. I also tried killing the app everytime the phone went idle. Fail!
I installed PowerAmp and tried all the same. The only thing that changed was poweramp started up on a different ringtone.
I rooted my phone and tried tasker with a task-kill plug in. Even set it to the harshest setting. The tasks worked, but there would either be a time delay or I haven't been able to meet all the conditions that trigger the app to start up.
I've checked the settings in my car. Nothing seems to be able to control a signal that I'm guessing is being sent to my phone from the car to autostart music.
I haven't tested this yet but I purchased titanium backup and have put the Music and PowerAmp apps on FREEZE. My guess is some other app is going to fire up in attempt to respond to whatever signal is being sent from my car.
So, my next logical question, from a soon to be highly illogical insane person...HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP?????? lol. Please help me for the love of all things holy and unholy!

I had a similar issue and found forum recommendations to try Bluetooth Connect & Stop Play from the Play Store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cp2.bluetooth.connect.and.stop.play&hl=en Does that help?
I'll give it a shot. Thanks.
After about 20 minutes, Pandora keeps closing. Battery management for the app is off. I've tried uninstalling, restarting the phone, but nothing has helped.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Yep. Already tried turning off battery optimizing for pandora and giving it the proper permissions.... I suspect it is due to oos aggressive battery mgmt
This is a sign from the Universe to switch to Spotify. You have bright futures ahead.
Experiencing the same. Very annoying.
you guys figure this out?
I've had the same issue with Google Play Music. The only solution I have found so far is to lock the app in memory. After that, I've never had issues with it just closing randomly.
No issues at all with Pandora. I'm on 9.0.11. I have the app set to optimize, but I've got adaptive battery turned off because reasons.
I experience this all the time with the direct from Oneplus 6T. However, my wife's T-mobile 6T doesn't do this. What the heck?
I'm on 9.0.11, still does this with Pandora despite turning off battery optimisation and adaptive battery...has anyone else figured this out yet?
No issues here. May be Pandora's problem. Maybe they need to fix the app.
Pandora stops after 20 minutes ~
Was experiencing the same thing. I turned my background restriction off under battery usage, seems to be fixed on mine now. Nope shut down again
Apps stop working fix on armor phone. Mine is armor 6E
Press app main button near your home button. Then you can either swipe away running apps or press one of the two buttons which are clear all, or go into running apps settings (same screen, not main settings). This allows you to either have all apps stop after a certain time or individually have apps turn off automatically once screen times out after a certain amount of time. I hope this helps! Took me forever to find.

I agree with this post. I also noticed that when using pandora while using the waze navigation app that you can skip or pause but, are not able to replay a song. I have contacted both pandora and, waze about this issue and, they just blame each other. In the end no fix. I have pandora plus btw
I understand this may only help a few people, but what fixed it for me was going to settings > battery > adaptive battery > restricted apps... And then removing Pandora (from the list I forgot I added it to, upon the phone's prior suggestion)
Hi I'm new so sorry if the question is stupid but when I'm watching something on YouTube or chrome screen won't stay awake and it's dimming and going to.sleep. I know I can change lock time but it's should stay awake when doi g something like YouTube.
Thanks for help
I've noticed this on the stock OOS also lately. I'm still completely stock on the T-Mobile 6T and it's doing the same thing...Never did it before so I don't know what is causing it.
XDA YouTube vanced . I'm not rooted.
Check phone settings for under apps & notifications check the YouTube app then check the toggle for unrestricted data in power save mode. Something like that.
Sorry if I am late in the show. So, I did a hard reset on my android 10 based Realme X and started noticing the same thing on Chrome when watching a video (be it YouTube, Dailymotion, BBC or whatever); even on fullscreen. After a couple of minutes, screen gets dimmed and then turns off. I know this is normal when playing music. But while watching videos, device should remain awake, isn't it? I tried the same videos on Bromite browser and this doesn't happen there.
After I stream video for a moderate amount of time (~60-90 minutes) I get an exclamation mark next to the icon in the status bar and the only thing that fixes it is resetting my router.
Disabling and reenabling Wifi via settings doesn't fix it. Rebooting the phone doesn't fix it. Only restarting my router resolves the issue.
Obviously, this is very inconvenient and impractical if I'm away from home or other devices are using the connection.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so have you found a fix?
Also, I should note that basic internet use doesn't trigger this error as I can go days without the problem if I don't stream a long enough video. It seems to be specific to streaming video for certain periods of time.
Bump.
