[Q] Towelroot Freezes Kernel 3.4. Is there another way to root? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I consider myself fairly savvy with root but this problem has me troubled. Apparently there is a known issue with Towelroot on V900 phones with kernel 3.4. That is what is says anyway on the Towelroot thread. Anyway my experience is this: When I root with Towelroot my Note 3 screen freezes randomly. Sometimes it will reboot after 30 seconds and sometimes I need to pull the battery. I had another Note 3 that I enjoyed root with great success. But last Thursday I dropped that phone on some rocks and had to get a new one. Thank the gods for a warranty.
So if indeed Towelroot has a known issue with the 3.4 kernel is there an alternative way to gain root? If I were to install Towelroot with the know freeze issues, and flash a ROM will that solve the problem? Or are there any alternatives?
Thanks

# on SC-04E(docomo GS4 works), now a couple questions

Hello, I just rolled the dice and discovered cf autoroot for the 9505 does work for the Japanese DoCoMo Galaxy S4 (SC-04E). would this mean the recoveries are also the same. I wan to pull the radio and help out with your thread. Ive had several android devices(desire, desire HD, GS3; which was a bit of a support nightmare because it was so unlike other GS3s. on the other hand the HTCs were easy and all I had to do was maintain my japanese radio) so im not new to rooting. But Noone that ive seen has tried a recovery and the firmware is not yet on sammobile. think I should wait a bit or what steps should I take to attempt to install a recovery without bricking. will it just reject it or is there a potential for a brick? Hell i may be the first to attempt root that phone just came out yesterday. after toying around it appears to be a partial root, some apps requiring root access work, and some dont. also the stock recovery and NFC are dead. Ill hold off until the stock image gets posted on sammobile

I am thinking to root for getting access so some of the root features ...
How can i backup my Stock ROM (ORIGINAL) before getting into this rooting process so i may not do anything wrong , if it goes also
I may able to restore it ..
WIll kingoapp.com rooting Change my serial of affect anything on my mobile ...
I would appreciate your help!
Thanks
I suggest you to read some basics about your note before trying anything. Seems you don't know anything. And no one will learn you everything I this thread alone. You have to have some to get some. Search forums and read some and then ask things you don't know.
I say it not to be rude but to save you more time. Really. If you do something wrong and you don't know that you even did then you will ask many more questions and struggle a lot.
You don't even say anything about your phone. What is version and firmware you are on. Above mj3 you will not be able to root without tripling Knox.
No one uses kingo. CF autoroot is used mostly but triples Knox.
You can flash new firmware with Odin and you can get updates again.
Don't know any method to fully backup without root. You can back up apps with titanium backup.

[Q] GT-i9506 Safe root

Hello
My S4 got lollipop this weekend, (I9506XXUDOA6) and i want to root it without tripping knox. Is there any way to do this? Ive tryed towelroot or kingoroot but nothing worked
thanks in advance
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't believe you can downgrade the Android 5.0.1 modem to an earlier version and root using Towelroot. CF Autoroot still works, but it will trip Knox.
Yes thats the case.. I dont want to trip knox and i wont try to downgrade the modem.. Ok maybe patience is what i need
Im just facing some curious lags on my phone that have no sense... For example in the recent apps, on facebook, on messenger, and on swiftkey keyboard.. But i have to admit that battery is at its best. On kitkat with normal use, the phone was dead for about 20 hours, and now on lollipop for about 2 and a half days i guess? Does anyone know how to fix those lags or minimize them?
My main concern, and something I'll have to do further research into, is whether I'd lose my SIM unlock on an upgrade. I used RegionLock Away to unlock my S4 after repairing it. The unlock survived the restoration of Android 4.4.2, but I have my concerns as to whether it would survive an upgrade to 5.0.1. Especially as downgrading the modem apparently is not possible.
It might simply be easier for me to find a custom Touchwiz ROM and install it instead, but there aren't many of them as of yet.
Can anyone confirm that there is no way to saferoot a s4 lte-a with official lollipop?

Losing root until reboot - Android 5.1.1

Hi everyone
I hope someone can help me. I have a Note 4 N910W8 running rooted stock ROM - Android 5.1.1
Sometimes I lose root.. Titanium takes a while to request root and times out. Other root apps complain the phone isn't rooted. It's always resolved with a reboot.
Does anyone know what's causing this?

Root Samsung S5 SM-G900F International without PC?

Hi,
I have been a big fan of this forum for years and it helped me solve many problems in the past - thank you all for the work you are doing here!
Unfortunately, I now ran into a problem which I cannot seem to solve myself.
I acquired a second-hand Samsung S5 SM-G900F International Version running Marshmallow which cannot be connected to my PC as the USB hub is broken (I didn't know that before and now I have it and have to work with it because I cannot just get another phone).
So, I tried to root it without a PC, which according to several sources I found online should not be a problem.
So far I have tried these rooting apps and none of them worked:
- Root Master
- Baidu
- Easy Rooting Toolkit
- Z 4 (which didn't even run but closed itself each time after 2 seconds)
- Kingo Root
- King Root
- Towelroot
- iroot
- Universal Androot
- Frama Root
- and I tried to use CF auto root, but there I couldn't even find a running apk
So, as it seems to me, none of these apps support the international version of the S5. And as I am not too eager to strip this phone to the bones and repair the USB hub myself: Do you have other ideas what I could do? I really just want to install LineageOS and get rid of Google
Thank you!

Click to collapse
I really have no idea. If those methods, especially King(o)Root, did not work... clueless.
But in any case you could deactivate the OTA update feature of the stock rom, so you will not receive updates. That way you might have a chance that some root app implements an exploit that works in the future as bugs are found.
I just want point out for future reference that CFautoroot by chainfire (https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/) is not an apk but an ODIN flashable package. So still needs a USB connection.
Good Luck!
Hey,
thanks anyways!
I will let that post stand here in case someone in the future runs into the same problem or someone else has the magic solution.
I now decided to just get the USB hub repaired but of course, as it has to be, the display broke and needed repairing too - financially this whole project was not worth it. But I saved a phone
