[Q] Custom Recovery - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guyz
I just rooted my S5 stock using cf-auto root. It was a success but as per chainfire now I have default android recovery. I need a custom recovery now to take a nandroid backup
I wanted to use TWRP, for some reason (I have no idea why) I couldn't download their package. I tried 2 different ISP and few laptops and even using my S5 I couldnt download any of their package. Download incomplete.
Can anyone link me to another source or suggest another custom recovery? Last time I used CWM recovery and that was the best.
Thanks

issue has been resolved.. shouldn't use download managers lol

[Q] ClockworkMod Recovery for Samsung Galaxy Y

I was wondering if we could install permanent ClockworkMod recovery on Samsung Galaxy Y. According to the method mentioned here one needs to install ROM Manager and select Flash CLockworkMod Recovery and choose the phone as Galaxy Mini. But Galaxy Mini does not appear in the options.
Another method is listed here where you need to download the file and flash via stock recovery. But it is not a permanent ClockworkMod Recovery. Does someone know how to get permanent ClockworkMod Recovery?
There isn't one atm I think. You'll have to wait for a dev to make one.

both methods DO NOT WORK.
recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-tass.zip and
CWM_bla_bla.zip
is the same stuff. not working as advertised (meaning: permanently replacing stock recov, if that is what the edify comment wants to say). nobody in this forum even claimed to have been successful.
You have to install an older version of Rom Manager where you can select your phone. Not the latest version of it. But to boot into it, you have to boot through Rom Manager app using 'Boot Into Recovery' option.
What would be the advantage of doing so ?
SGY badass Yphone
You may even flash a custom rom like hyperion 8 which has cwm as its default recovery..

hi to all,
i think we, (s5360 users) can now have a permanent CWM recovery via ROM manager "VERSION 4.7.0.2" mabe????
i had the attached apk file.( Maybe, this it is the oldest version of ROM manager) then after installing, must choose the phone as galaxy MINI as you try to install CWM recovery on it.
of course, you have to boot into recovery via ROM manager.
Hope it helps

That is because of the kernel... So instead of flashing the rom u can flash custom kernel. Besides H8 final doesn't have kernel in it....
Remeber one thing.... A permanent CWM comes with a custom kernel. Otherwise you will have to flash CWM.zip manually from the stock recovery.

[Q] Trying to Flash CWM Recovery

As far as I know and what i have research, the only rom recovery that can be flash to my LG G2 is TWRP and would have to use Loki to bypass the bootloader. Please correct me if I'm wrong in the information. I have the ATT version, software version is D80010o, and on 4.2.2 Android Version Stock Rom of cause.
Questions:
- Does the G2 have to have an unlocked bootloader to flash anything even if it is rooted?
- Is TWRP the only recovery that can be flashed to the G2? If so what is the "manger" for it similar to Rom manager with CWM.
- Is there any other way to backup your current rom without using any recovery, this is my main goal for the moment?
Note: I have check if it is compatible with CWM base on the website yet when i flash CWM with Rom Manager( not the touch support version) and try to reboot the Red Triangle pops up. I have tried with Flashify and download the recovery img to the sd and it comes up with secure booting error ( I'm not sure if this is because i flashed both CWM and CWM with touch at the same time with Flashify wasn't sure if i needed to flash both for touch to work or just CWM Touch)
Please inform me with the correct produces to follow or link me to a solution. Side note this is my first time with an Android device and my first Smartphone so I'm kinda new to this rooting roms, kernal, thing. Thank you in advance to anyone that can help. Feel free to message me through XDA. Thanks.

[Q] Help with updating old CWM recovery vie flashable .zip?

Hello guys,
I have a rooted stock Nexus 7 2012 (3g GSM) model. I've Installed on it is a very old CWM recovery v6.0.2.3 when i first bought it. It's been a long time since i got this device, and i forgot every thing about rooting & what not, so i want to use this easy method below.
I want to update this old recovery to the latest version, so i can flash new ROMS like CM11, PA and many others vie the new recovery.
So, I need help finding a .zip file of the newest recovery so i can install the update from this old recovery, is it doable?
Thanks,
You can use RomManager App if your are root : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager

How good is this method compared to the .zip flashable file?
Isn't the flashable file more safe from errors and such compared to that app?
the method is exactly the same, it's the official app of clockworkmod : it will flash the zip of the last cwm avalaible for your device automaticaly.

Rooting OnePlus 2 without unlocking Bootloader

Hi all,
* Do i have to unlock my Bootloader before I root my OnePlus 2 phone ?
** If i'll have to erase all data in order to perform Rooting or Unlocking What is the best backup tool to use in order to restore everything ?
*** Where i can get an original OnePlus 2 rom to download ? (If i'll need)
Thanks a lot !!!
Best,
Jonathan
Yes. You have to flash SuperSU using TWRP, and to use TWRP your bootloader needs to be unlocked. Try out Helium Backup. That's what I used to backup my phone without root. It only backs up apps and app data though. No system data. If you need to backup SMS and MMS messages, use SMS Backup & Restore. You can download the stock OPT OxygenOS from here, though I would make a Nandroid backup of the stock OS in TWRP before you do anything first. Good luck!
Thanks for the quick response,
Another quick question, after rooting the phone will I able to copy into "/system/media/sounds/ui" folder without problem ?
The main idea is to add a poweron.ogg sound file in order to hear something during the poweron
Thanks again
Of course! Root gives you access to all system files on the device. You'll just have to use a root file explorer such as root browser which is probably my personal favorite. Many people also use ES Files Explorer. Just be careful if you do use it because you have to enable the "Root Explorer" tool.
Hi again,
Have you ever try to add sound during the start up?
Nope. Honestly never really had a desire to. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a tutorial out there on how to do it though.
I succeeded to unlock my OnePlus 2 ... using fastboot....., now do i have to install TWRP or to stay with the OnePlus 2 original recovey mode ?
What are the advantages for doing that (TWRP) ?
Thanks
You need TWRP recovery to flash the SuperSU app. TWRP is also what you use to flash custom Kernels or ROMs. If you want, you could do what I did and just boit to TWRP instead of actually flashing it to your device. Then you can flash the SuperSU app and have root while keeping the stock OPT recovery. Then, if you want, you can go get Flashify, purchase and unlock the premium features within the app (absolutely worth it!) and use it to backup the stock recovery and then flash TWRP so that you can revert back to the stock recovery if you ever want to. If you need more detailed instructions on any of that, I can submit another post later when I can get to my computer.
Where can i find stock recovery for OnePlus 2 (in case i'll need)?
I found this in XDA forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/general/rom-mirrors-official-oxygen-os-roms-ota-t3209863
That forum post is just for downloading the stock ROM. Like I said in my last post, bootong to TWRP instead of flashing it and then using Flashify to backup the stock recovery would probably be the best method, however it seems like you can download the stock recovery from here. I personally have not used that download before so I cannot vouch for its legitimacy, however it seems other people have had success with it.
Which Flashify tool to use, which author (Christian Göllner or Nightshade Labs) ?
Here ya go!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify
You can also use that app to flash the TWRP recovery straight from your phone.

Do you know how to do that?
I can't find on Google realyble source
The simplest way would be to flash twrp using Odin. Then use twrp to flash the custom ROM. You'll need a computer to do this.
Kingroot does not root NOTE3 (at least not new firmwares) so far I know.
check these articles:

seriously? would you explain how to do that?
To flash a custom ROM, you could use Odin to flash TWRP and then flash a custom ROM from TWRP. I have used this procedure on the note 2, note 3, s3, and s4.
Afaik, only the USA note 3, other than the T-Mobile note 3, have locked bootloaders.
As above.
Some roms are rooted.
