Can't install CM ... Also Knox Flag at 0x1 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hello everyone, recently i bought a new phone and it has been quite a while since i read something about ROMs and updates, so i didnt know anything about Knox security bull****, so i upgraded my phone to 4.4.2 and since then it has been horrible to get my phone rooted and barely do anything ... So now i cant flash any CM on my phone either via windows, odin or zip ... So im here to ask for advice or even help, and in addition to all this crap, my Knox flag is at 0x1 ... I really dont care about warranty, so i just want to get any stable CM going on my phone.
Thanks in advance and hope anyone can help me out with this.

Sorry, no CM if the phone is AT&T S4. Read the first few posts for all the info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221

New S4 I9505 and Knox question

Hi guys,
I'm getting my new 9505 one Wednesday and coming from an S2 I9100, I was reading a lot on those forums regarding Knox.
So just wanna ask if I read it correctly, as far as I'm not concerned of getting the 0x1 flag and that my warranty is now void, I can flash every rom and kernel from the I9505 development forum, is that right?
Or do I need to be aware of something, every answer and help is appreciated, thanks in advance

downgrade confirmation

hello guys
I have a sm-n900.....it came upgraded to kitkat in the box
although the performance of the phone is mind blowing but I feel it is a battery draimer......and also I read reviews on net that people with jellybean used to have their battery last more than one day with usual udage but in my case it is only upto 16-17 hrs
I thought of downgrading to jellybean and went to service cemtre where they told me that downgrading in not possible in note 3
I then searched at home and found it is bit complicated and if we do we may loose update to kitkat if we want afterwards
like in my earlier s2 (i9100) and note (n7000) I could flash any firmware anytime
but wat to do downgrade this to jellybean without loosing the possibilities of update to kitkat
plz someone
I know people are here having far big issues compared to mine
but I would be really happy is someone would guide me through this

The reason you are not getting any response is because this question has been asked 59 billion times a day since KK rolled out, and the other million plus members who are aware of it are restraining themselves through giant facepalms.
In short, no, there is no way to downgrade.

I rooted via CF-AutoRoot (as my signature indicates below) and there were no problems. For me, KitKat is working perfectly in every respect.
No, you cannot reset the Knox binary trigger. I could not possibly care any less about it at this point in time.
I plan to use the device until something better comes along, then sell it, so why worry about it?

You need to do some searching on the site. All these questions have answers that have been gone over and over.
Early 4.3 users could root their phone but Knox gets tripped. RDLV method worked then without tripping Knox up till MJ3 of 4.3. Anything above that as stock and Knox gets tripped. KitKat goes one step further in that you cannot revert to 4.3 at all, even if you are willing to trip Knox.
You can root the phone but AFAIK (I haven't bothered with KK - my phone runs brilliantly on v6 (4.3) Omega) you trip Knox anyway you do it.
Knox 0x1 may or may not doom your warranty - somecountries have laws that say Samsung cannot quirm out of hardware problems by claiming software changes. You may or may not care about Knox. Mine is a grey import from HK that I had all kinds of fun getting over to a non-freaky ROM, so when it eventually triggered Knox I didn't give a toss. I did root the phone with RDLV and changed ROMs several times before something that shouldn't have, tripped the Knox bit.
Now there is about as brief a history as you will get. Use what is in it to go search and find any more complete answers.
Always search before asking basic questions - at the least it means you will be able to ask intelligent questions, not ones you can find by looking at the titles of recent posts in Q&A forums.

They'd just boot to Download mode and see the Knox flag.
I don't care about it, honestly. If I ever need warranty assistance, I'd just hope for the best, but since it's Samsung, I'd expect the worst.

plz answer......I know I annoyed a lot.....but plz
You should be able to use another mode. When you connect via USB, swipe down the Notification bar and there should be a Notify there you can tap to choose other modes.
You might need to go into Build Number (Settings/About Phone) and tap 7 times to turn on Developer mode and then turn on USB Debug. (not sure as that's always one of the first things I do)
Unless you are the only person on the planet who sees a need for Knox, you don't need to DL anything to do with Knox. Check in Application Manager and see if you can turn all of it off.

Interesting question. Do you find you can easily sell your rooted/modified phones?
I'm always concerned that people won't want to buy a rooted phone that's potentially been flashed 100+ times with possible excessive CPU over-clocking etc. I always try to put the phone back to stock (or as close as possible) before I sell it on.
Is it just me who feels those concerns?

Well, in my region, the vast majority of buyers don't even know what root is, so it's never been an issue for me. I don't expect that to change anytime soon. The Note 3 doesn't show any issues at all when reflashed unless Knox flag is tripped. Even then, the only "issue" is the warranty bit flag shown in Download mode and the loss of Knox container, which almost nobody uses. Out of a 100 buyers, you might find one that knows what root is and less than that who know how to get to Download mode, and even fewer who'd potentially use Knox, so no, not a problem.

[Q] root and warranty

I decided a few months to buy the Galaxy S5 and now wonder if I should start doing experiments with my S4 with root, Knox and custom ROMs
My phone is currently an official firmware .4.4.2
What do you think is it worth to ignore warranty, etc.

This may not be that helpful but, when all is said and done it is entirely up to you what you do with your phone. I don't think anyone can advise in this situation. Its your choice.

There are 2 threads in the i9505 forums that have everything you could ever want to know. One is all about Knox in general an dhow it works and what it does. (It's even a sticky, man.) The other is titles something like "Knox and warranty". I assure you it's all there.
there is no saferoot method for 4.4.2 you are out of luck
if you want to root you will trip knox

[Q] General inquiry about KNOX and FW types

Hello all,
I searched the forums round and round, and couldn't find my answers so I hope you will be able to help me out.
i'm looking for a new phone and decided I want to go with the S5. that was before i learned about KNOX and it's wonderful ways.
i'm a heavy modder, who will most definitely use a custom recovery and ROM/kernel.
my questions are:
1. would it be possible to flash a custom recovery / rom / kernel / modem despite KNOX being preset?
2. other then getting this 0x1 and voiding my official warranty, are there any other result to this? will something not work?
3. assuming I get an unlocked international phone, is there any need to mess/change my FW? or is that just part of guides for rooting without tripping KNOX ?
Basically, I want to be sure that I could do whatever I want to the phone without getting stuck or turning it unusable because of KNOX. my current phone is a Nexus 4 and it has been heaven. I want to preserve this feeling
thanks for the help guys, appreciate it!
Did you tried Towelroot method for rooting your device? I heard that doesn't trigger knox..
I would imagine my rooting the phone is the least of my worries.
as far as I know - and this is one of my questions - flashing a custom recovery and or rom will 100% trip KNOX.
not that I care, I just need to know if this is true..and my other questions as well
thanks!
A brief answer
If you - as you say "i'm a heavy modder" Samsung phones are not for you
I've heard tales of people having issues flashing modems when knox is triggered. I have not checked that out for myself Joe have I searched any further into the matter.
I plan on breaking knox soon though because screw knox.

This answer really worries me to be honest.
could you elaborate?
I don't really care about KNOX, and as long as I can mod away and jump back and forth between modems/roms/kernels - I don't care for the warranty.
If indeed there is truth in the matter, and modem flashing will become a problem if KNOX is tripped, then this would be a deal breaker for me on this phone.
anyone care to add more info here?

You can, but you will always have problems like network, connection, calls, bugs and so on
Samsung devices do not provide the old pleasure as previously
Knox killed freedom of developers and people who like customizations
I would really appreciate an answer from someone who knows for sure.
does tripping KNOX disables the option to upgrade/downgrade the modem?

No, KNOX tripping is only at the moment a warranty void solution for samsung. its like the flash count flags.
basically if you trip knox. you're already in it. you do what you want

I bought my phone with ANCE firmware and the KNOX was tripped in the first hour by CF-AutoRoot. Now I'm on ANG2, flashed with Odin and the modem is updated correctly.

Exactly, but with full stock image flush (including bootloader). The full stock tar.md5 form sammobile includes the modem/bootloader/rom. I think that the important thing is to have a modem which is compatible with the bootloader (same version). Didn't try to mix different bootloader/modem(baseband) versions.
Tripping KNOX will only disable the feature which allows you to store some data on a encrypted part of the device (Mostly comercial use) when KNOX is tripped any data stored on the 'special' partition is destroyed.
So there are only 2 things that will be affected, your warranty (Not a problem in Europe) and the special partition that I explained earlier.
