Hi all,
I posted this before on cloudyflex thread, but that was probably not the right place.
I tried to create a bootanimation one based on cyanogen/Pardus boot animation since I really like it. I extracted the bootanimation.zip from Pardus and just worked on the jpg files.
The file I am uploading just does NOT work on the phone. boot animation is a blank screen. Please don't try as is.
Can anyone let me know why this doesn't work?
I tried to check color depths and other things but I have ****ty software (I did all this with paint and snagit editor).
And anyone feel free to add a transition of logo into the animation as this is quite abrupt
Thanks!
I'm using cloudyflex too, I'll check this out for you. Please note that I do not have any graphical skills, but I can make a bootanimation

Doesn't work for me either. I'm not getting a blank screen, however. Just the LG logo. I tried rezipping the file and set permissions but no luck. We should try another boot animation to make sure that Cloudy flex doesn't block custom bootanimations

Thanks for trying. I am pretty sure it is not a cloudyflex problem but it had something to do with my image files for some reason.
Cloudyflex runs custom animations without a problem, i tried several of them.
I don't understand anything on the realm of color depths and other weird settings... Must be the problem but i don't know.

It has to be the images. If the bootanimation was otherwise faulty you would get that "android" bootanimation.

Well, usually when I boot my TMN 2.1 ROM, I see a TMN splash screen and then the regular Android boot animation with the glowing text.
However, from day before yesterday, this is not happening. The TMN splash appears and the screen goes blank. Then after some time the regular Android text animation appears and immediately loads the launcher/home.
Everything appears to be working fine. Even the time taken for boot looks normal but the screen suffers a blackout for some time during the boot.
Any idea how to fix it or why this happens?
In my lg gt540 reference thread in developers part there is a post about possible solutions when you brick your phone, check it out, hope it helps!
hi lavero, i just wanted to ask which app you use for customizing your phones visuality like launchers, widgets, etc. i couldnt able to pm you cause im at the school now and gives problem with pm'ing.
sorry for my english.
@lavero: The phone is not bricked. :/ It works fine. Only boot animation is missing.

Check if you don't get to see recovery too. If so then is bricked but not big deal just check my thread and do what is in there
Now if you manage to get in recovery try flashing boot.img again but always erase then flash. What was the last ROM you flashed?

Am in the stock ROM with fastboot. The ROM used to work fine. I installed a few apps and ubuntu(from nexus one hacks)... The recovery works fine too..
The boot animation(Android logo) is stored in boot.img? Not in system.img? Looks like I will need a bit of tinkering to extract boot.img from the kdz.
Anyway, thanks. I could just try a clean flash. Restoring apps is the only pain since I use link2sd. I should've made a NAND before that day. :/
Does anyone know the way to switch the boot animation?
Tried the white oppo boot animation and it works fine but when tried to replace it with my own choice of png image, no luck at all.
Many thanks

Apparently, using any custom ROM allows you to use any boot animation.
Using these right now

I dont know how but i removed the app menu option from the screen from my ga;axy y. I have installed the nexus Me v5 Rom in it. Can you please tell, how to get it back???
I know that factory restore is an option but i want to first look for any other option rather than reseting my phone

I don't use that rom so the wording might be slightly different depending on its launcher
Long press on any blank area of the home screen
select add launcher action
Select add/close app drawer
long press on app draw image
drag it anywhere you want to put it

I was also facing the same problem. You are not installing the kernel properly. Download kernel from http://www.mediafire.com/download/s32dnj9g9g44h31/Percy_G2_CyanogenMod2_2+.zip
Then download ROM from either xda developers or from http://goo.im/devs/YashRastogi/Galaxy Y Android Development/NexFit/NexusFit_v0.1_CM7_YOUNG.zip
Copy all the files to your SD card. And then follow the following video. Please leave a thanks & tell me if it works. [first time booting takes time]

So like an idiot, I didn't take a nandroid before flashing bootanimation4u, and now, whenever I turn my phone on, my boot animation is black. It boots properly, but I just don't have a boot animation. I still have the sounds that play. Which will fine, isn't ideal. I would rather have some indication that the phone is turning on as normal than just going straight into nothing.
I have tried putting a custom bootanimation.zip file in both /system/media and /data/local and nothing seems to allow me to use a custom animation.
So reading later on in the bootanimation4u thread, it says 4.4.2 or Kitkat in general, isn't able to work with Bootanimation4u. Which is odd because I am about 95% sure that I had it working at one time or another before. So I looked at the files that the flashable zip changes, and replaced those with stock files. Still nothing, I am still getting a straight black screen.
So then I saw this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...memade-bootanimations-collection-how-t1897969 and tried to use this, however, I have the same issue.
The custom boot animation I have been trying to use is the stock Google Nexus boot animation (the one with four circles).
This is on a Stock NAE ROM.
EDIT:
Would a dirty flash possibly fix this problem? If I do dirty flash, what issues might that cause me if the device has been modified with Hotspot / SD Card fix, and other things?
Did you try Rom Toolbox? I change these every couple days. Choose the file from your local folder, hit install, reboot. Done. If its still not working maybe it's the zip? Can you install other ani's? Maybe the Rom you use doesn't support custom boot ani's? Just thinking out loud.

I have tried several different animations, none work. All are supposedly built for this device. Using boot animation, not specifically ROM toolbox, I tried to flash some zip files I locally had with no success.
Bootanimation4u and the other link in that post, is supposed to allow for the ability to have/use custom bootanimations regardless of ROM.

Well try Rom Toolbox, you can get the free version. Open that app, grant it root if asked, swipe over to boot animations, choose local tab, find your file and select then choose install and reboot. I don't think you can preview first in free version. When it reboots it should be your Ani. No need to flash anything. If that doesn't work try flashing a different kernel and then retry. I don't know this bootanimation4u app though, never needed it. There's lots of threads here with lots of animations just try a different method, you'll get it.

I too am experiencing the same issue, i have tried everything i can find so far to fix this problem however all to no avail.
i have tried using rom manager and boot animation changer as well as flashing all of the different zips for bootanimation4u
any further info would be great as i really would like to get a custom animantion back
---------- Post added at 11:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:24 PM ----------
ok so i managed to get this fixed right after posting.
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...memade-bootanimations-collection-how-t1897969 and downloand "CWM_CustomBootanimation_44_Enable.zip" from the fourth post
Then use rom manager to change your boot animation
Job Done!
I recently tried to change the boot animation but could not find any bootanimation.zip. The only thing close to it was a file called bootanimation in system/bin. When I changed my custom bootanimation.zip to bootanimation and changed bootanimation to bootanimation.bak the new custom boot did not work. When I tried getting back the original boot animation it by changing it from bootanimation.bak to bootanimation it did not work and still was showing a black screen. I've checked permissions and anything I could find online but couldn't find a solution. Any help would be appreciated. Much thanks!

Stock Samsung don't work with boot animation.zip, but if you are with AOSP/Lineage based ROMs you find it in system/media folder.
