Am I able to downgrade from NI1 to NB1? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I was just wondering if I could downgrade the firmware safely because I want to Sim unlock my at&t s4 so I could use it with my T-Mobile Sim card.. ?

You can safely downgrade. To Sim unlock, you don't need to downgrade.

Yes you are able to. Have done it.many times, just download the NB1 firmware and flash via Odin. Hope it helps.

Yes that answers part of my question. I was wondering this because I saw a method to sim unlock that required being on the NB1 firmware, but I might be wrong if I'm able to do it on this NI1 firmware hehehe

All required info in All Things AT&T
Steps:
1. Root (read root section of the thread)
2. Install safestrap v3.72 and install recovery using the app. You may have to use selinuxmodechanger app to set selinux to permissive if the recovery installation doesnt work
Reboot the phone and safestrap recovery can be accessed from the splash screen that will be shown during boot.
3. Flash the MF3 modem from safestrap recovery (link to modems available in the ATT thread)
4. Reboot the phone and run regionlockaway app. This should successfully sim unlock the phone for you.
5. You can flash back the NI1 modem in safestrap recovery.

Will be doing this now. Will let you know when I get working

[Q] Need help

hi guys
have a nice day
i have a sprint s4 sph l720 with 4.3 rom and MK2 Modem
i want to unlock the phone for international use
but to unlock it i need to change the modem to MDC/MDL first before unlock according to the thread on xda developer website
so can i change direct the modem from MK2 to MDC/MDL directly using Odin ?
or is there a way to unlock the phone with the 4.3 rom and MK2 modem ?
thank you for your cooperation for help

If you are on the stock MK2 firmware with the Knox bootloader you CANNOT Odin to MDC or MDL or anything before MJA. Period. This question has been asked and answered dozens of times. ALL the answers you are looking for are here.
Please S E A R C H.
I believe you can Odin just the MDC modem to unlock your device. But you cannot Odin a stock tar file to downgrade. Just the modem should work. Autoprime has an MDC modem file in his international unlock thread that should work. Others on mk2 have reported successfully downgrading just the modem. If it doesn't work it will either fail in Odin, or you will have to Odin the mk2 modem back to fix it.

Thanks for the clarification cruise350. It's true that some have been able to sim unlock with just a modem downgrade, hopefully he'll get it.
It just gets so crazy that the same questions get asked over and over. and then asked again.
change modem
thank you guys
because of you two i success to downgrade the modem to MDC without any problem
and succesfully unlock the s4 sprint mobile
and now i will need only to find a way to stop the notification of the security information that say an application attempted to access system on your device without authorization. this attempt has been blocked
i make googling and most people it is the knox problem
do you guys have a suggestion for removing the notification ?
i see this web : http://www.droidviews.com/disable-knox-security-service-on-samsung-galaxy-devices/
what do you think ?

I uninstalled everything that contained Knox in it. I believe there was a few of them including two com.knox.xxxx
It's been a while since I did it so I'm forgetting the exact names and how many. I just used the search function in TiBu to find them so try that.

[Q] Bootloader unlock for SGH-I337Z AIO WIRELESS

Hello all. I am new to this site but I enjoy it a lot and I learned a lot as well from the threads. I got AIO wireless service that has the I337 model galaxy s4. I successfully rooted my phone with Kingo root. After rooting my phone I tried to install a customer recovery on it with no success no matter what I did ( I tried every imaginable scenario). In the process of rooting my phone my kernel got damaged and my Wi-Fi stopped working. I am trying to re flash the phone with custom multi carrier rom but I think that my boot loader is locked and that is the reason I can’t install the recovery. If anyone can guide me in the right direction where I can unlock the boot loader would be amazing. Thank you all in advance
1. This section isn't for AIO wireless but I don't know if there is a section for it.
2. There is currently no way to unlock the boot loader.
3. If you want to restore it back to stock read about it in my signature.

This section is for all I337 variants. He has a different model than the AT&T I337, so that restore tar in your signature won't work and the bootloader may be unlocked for him depending on his carrier's choice.
EDIT: Here is the I337Z stock firmware. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448794
It says they did not get a recovery working, you may be stuck to Safestrap 3.65

4tele, I assume you used the AT&T Safestrap? I was not able to get AT&T Safestrap 3.65, 3.71, or 3.72 to work on my I337Z from Cricket (AIO) with KitKat 4.4.2, build number KOT49H.I337ZTUUBNE2. The app says it installed successfully, but it never seems to activate. Are you on KitKat? If so, what build number?
Anyone know if it's possible to flash the AT&T I337 MF3 firmware on the I337Z then try to unlock the bootloader using the process described below? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387577
I used the AT&T safestap 3.65 but my phone was on MH1 firmware 4.2.2 and it worked, if you are on kitkat probably need to use the latest safestap I guess
guys check this out , maybe one developer decides to take advantage of this and help us out http://www.droid-life.com/2014/08/07/moto-x-bootloader-unlock-qualcomm/

MF3?

I just got this s4. It has 4.4.2 ota, does this mean I have MF3? If I do have MF3 am I just limited to safetrap recovery ?
You probably have nb1 or nc1. From a terminal emulator on your phone type
su
getprop ro.bootloader
That'll tell you for sure
In either case you are limited to safestrap

That's what you're going to need to use. You'll downgrade to mk2, install safestrap and then flash a rooted rom

Do I follow this ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825 step one says to flash that stock rom in Odin I'm still 100% do I just skip step 1 ?
Edit : never mind I see what he did there. So after 6 steps I just boot back into safetrap recovery and flash roms as usual ?

I read a bit. It seems not worth it gonna have to leave the device I get a chance , it stinks because it's for such a silly reason
The guy who I traded my note 2 with isn't willing to trade back. I'm stuck with the s4 it seems. Gonna try to work on this phone today after work . Along the way if I run into issues I'll ask here. Thanks
I just read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825 a little bit more. Can you guys tell me if I'm comprehending all these right. So step 2 gets me to MK2 bootloader from NB1 that I currently have. And with the MK2 bootloader I'm able to use the 4.3 root methods indicated in the thread. What's preventing 4.4.2 from being rooted isnt kitkat itself but the NB1 bootloader that came with it through ota, because from the look of it after MK2 "downgrade" I'll still have kitkat?
Step 5, if my final goal isn't just to have stock rooted can I flash a rom of my choice here instead of the stock rom indicated in the thread ? If I am able to just flash another rom in step 5, will I still need the stock kernel in step 6 ? Thank you thank you
Edit: step 3 indicates nb1 safetrap but would I have already "downgraded" to Mk2 tho ?

If you update, you will be forced to use safe strap to boot roms and will lose the ability to flash custom roms and recovery by using LOKI. If this means nothing to you, then there is a flashable ODIN stock 4.4.2 tar file you can download from this forum.

How To Install Custom ROM on AT&T/Verizon Galaxy S4 using SafeStrap Recovery!

I have a problem....even dought I boot on Partition 1, just created, it says :
E: Unable to mount '/systemorig'
Worst part is...it let me do the installing procces of the Hyperdrive+RLS9.1+S4+Final and then...doesn't boot.
My Phone is : S4 Active SGH-i537 from At&T Unlocked and rooted.
Android 4.4.2
UCUAMF1
UCUCNE3
Can you help me please?
Thanks in advanced!
Try to odin to stock (make sure you get the correct files), root, install SafeStrap following the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448942
After that you need to flash the rom, kernel modules (you can get them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447764), then after that you flash SuperSU (if you don't have that file then here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 DO THESE STEPS I JUST SAID IN THE SAME ORDER LISTED HERE: Flash ROM, correct kernel modules, and then SuperSu.)
If the same error ocurrs then it's most likely the rom just isn't compatible with you device. Also, make sure it's an S4 Active rom not a normal S4 rom.
NOTE: I do not own an Active, but doing some 5 minute research is what helped me figure this out for your device.
Ok, I´ll try! Sorry, but everything I did before, unsuscefully is the result of many hours of forum research......problem is....I don´t know a lot about this....yes, probably shouldn´t mess with it, but truth is I live in Argentina, and wifi + bluetooth stop working with stock rom....no matter how many times I hard reset it so I figured changing rom might solve it........
I went to through the same you're going through with my S4. I ended up flashing the wrong Odin files like 5 times before I figured out what file to flash, lol. Glad to help

after you flash with safetrap, does the kernel have to be flash with safetrap or with Odin? i did root my GS4 using Odin and have the I337_NJ4_Stock_Kernel. can i use that one or do i need to download any other tipe of kernel??
You need to flash the kernel modules via SafeStrap. The NJ4 modules (and other modules) can be downloaded from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221 navigate down to the KitKat Install instructions, look for step 4 (Install ATT Kernel Modules), in the first sentence click the hyper link redirecting you to AndroidFileHost, and then download the corresponding Kernel Modules to FLASH DIRECRLY AFTER EVERY ROM YOU FLASH.
THE FILES LINKED ARE FOR NORMAL S4 ONLY.
Sent from my SGH-I337 using XDA Free mobile app
Those two things are different...
You can only flash the nj4 kernel via Odin using the ap slot. I'm not sure if safestrap can flash kernels, because we're not meant to or we would be using twrp.
The nj4 modules should be flashed along with what ROM you're using during use of safestrap.
I was referring to the stock kernel modules (what I linked him/her to) needed to be flashed after the ROM each time. Also in SafeStrap, can't you flash stock kernels? I'm pretty sure you can. If not then I'm just crazy lol.

My Safestrap isný working properly, when I make the slot-1 it shows, :
E: Unable to mount '/systemorig'
Then When I wipe same thing, even that I boot in it
Worst thing....it tells me everything is done, I flash the rom and of course then...never starts....
And wich Rom could you finally use? My Phone is : S4 Active SGH-i537 from At&T Unlocked and rooted.
Android 4.4.2
UCUAMF1

Thanks!!
You need to use the Stock slot. Any other slot causes errors on most roms, and how do you have two bootloader versions? I'm thinking that MF1 is your BL and NE3 is baseband or something.
Sent from my SGH-I337 using XDA Free mobile app
Do not use Safestrap...you have an unlocked bootloader and have no need for it.
It will not work well with an unlocked phone like you have as the recovery is designed for locked US based carriers.
I think he means that he's SIM unlocked. I'm not sure they have an unlocked BL for the Active. If they do, then he should go ahead and use TWRP or CWM.
