Please can anyone help me. I have just recieved a sandisk wifi card but I am having trouble setting it up and connecting with my netgear wireless adsl router  . Does anyone know where I can get step by step instructions for setting this up and all the settings I need?
Thanks
It would help if you told us which router model you have. What seem to be the problems, remember on routers you might have MAC filtering activated and also WEP encryption.
Sorry it is a Netgear DG834G. Having played with it all night, this morning I have now connected and can browse with PIE. No idea what connections I changed to get it working though, but would like to understand what I should have been setting.
Thanks
Can't make this combination work
Hi,
Have got the same router and Orange SPV M1000 on W2003 SE. Have been trying to make this work for a month now. There is no MAC address filtering and no Encryption. It did detect the router once or twice and worked fine once. But it has not worked since then. Have tried speaking to SANDISK, who said that there is a problem with the router and that I need to speak to Netgear. I also tried the Socket's drivers with the SANDISK WiFi, but no luck. Have checked all the settings etc but with no luck yet. The netgear router wirks perfectly all right with another Netgear USB Wifi adapter on a desktop machine. The problem is that the Sandisk WIFI cannot even see the netgear router (the 'Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)' has been selected on the netgear router).
Can somebody help me out with this?
Thanks
RAJ
Hi,
Try changing the Wireless Radio Channel to eleven (11).
Regards,
Thanks for your reply. It has been set to Channel 11 by default!

Hi,
There is a few thing that you can try.
1) Disable the encryption.
2) Disable the G mode.
3) Disable any of the multiplier mode. This means that to run the router at max of 11Mbit/s only.
Regards,
Kueh.
All done still no luck. It does not pickup the router.
DHCP has been enabled on Netgear router. Do I need to add any settings manually for this to work?
Raj
Some settings I have set that now allows me access to netgear router and on to the internet. Still need to understand if I can access files on PC.
Under connections/advanced/select networks (programs that automatically connect to a private network) My Work Network/proxy settings. Tick both and put in netgear router server IP address. In Advanced HTTP has same IP address.
Under Connections/advanced/network card/ My network connects to... the internet. Click on adapter (I used Socket drivers for Sandisk card) for IP address select Use server assigned IP address.
You then need to set up the router to allow you to have access.
Go into Wireless Settings.
Name (SSID) - the default given
Region - mine is Europe
Channel - mine is 11
Mode - mine is g & b
Wireless Access Point
Enable Wireless Access Point selected
Allow broadcast of name select
Wireless Station Access list
Click button
Select Turn Access control on
Add New Station manually
Type in a device name for your XDA
Type in the MAC address off the back of your Sandisk card
Press Add
Security options
Select WEP
WEP Security Encryption
Authentication type - Shared Key
Encryption strength - 128 bit
WEP Key
Passphrase - (I used a word and pressed generate)
Key 1 - was populated and selected (When connecting with XDAII I was asked for this Key)
I think that about sums it up. May have changed other settings in my frustration of trying to get it to work so no guarantees.
Regards
Tried everything as suggested by you. I just can't make it work. I can't even see the router in the available wireless networks lists. I have given up now!
Thanks for your help.

RAJ
I have opened WIFI and connected to my NETGEAR AP, my pda appears in AP's connecting list. But while I open PIE I can't access any website. It always says "Locating", and "The page can not be found" after a while.
Below is my configuration, any problem?
1. Connections -> advanced -> Select Networks -> both are set to "MY WORK NETWORK" -> Edit... -> Proxy Settings -> check the option "This network connects to the Internet".
2. Network cards -> wireless -> in the found AP SSID, set connects to "Internet"
Network cards -> Network Adapters -> My network card connects to "The internet"
I have tried several different configs, but none works.
I am really crazy about it!!
Sounds like a DNS problem....
How are you assigning IP and DNS settings to your phone? Manually, or DHCP from the Netgear?
I just leave it "Use server-assigned IP address". When wifi connected, i can see my pda address is "192.168.1.2" and the AP is "192.168.1.1"
confused...
My laptop works well with WIFI at the same time.
Ive had this with a few DHCP servers in routers, half of the ones I use allocate IP fine but fail to send DNS server details.
Leave IP address allocation as Auto and manually enter your DNS servers. That should fix it.
if you've got an ip address in the phone, try typing the IP address of a server, eg. microsoft, in the browser....if it connects, then it proves it's a DNS problem.....then, as suggested....add the DNS settings manually...
Thanks Britman and Vap. It works now after I fill in the DNS server in wireless adapter. I should have remembered this.
omg...im having the same problem now. i know i had my wifi working because it worked out of the box and i was using agile messenger earlier today.
my settings are the same. what happened? i tried putting the DNS server in with no luck.
WiFi on Wizard
Try set "Power Mode" in "WiFi Settings" on Best Performance". To me WORK.

wow, you are good. heres a virtual pat on the back
Indeed, although I'm very happy with the wifi in the Wizard in general (considering size and power limitations), it's certainly a long way shy of the signal strength of the internal broadcom adapter in my laptop.
Same problem
I am also having this same problem, but all this DNS stuff is a bit over my head. On the settings on my wizard I see the ip address, and the mac address ( under wi-fi settings -> advanced tab). I logged into my router and went to the DHCP page. On that page, it shows that DHCP is enabled and if I click on the Clients button, it shows my device with the coresponding ip and mac. On the DHCP page, I can enter DNS numbers, but where do I get these numbers?
The DNS settings (servers) are provided by your ISP
Depending on the router, if you look at the general or status pages, you should see the DNS ip addresses. Or, if you already have a windows pc connected on the same router, simply type 'ipconfig /all' at a coomand prompt - this will show you the addresses.
So what happens when you're at an airport or somewhere public with wifi? How do you know what the DNS settings are to enter them?
Most airport/public access locations with wifi setups normally have their DHCP servers configured with the DNS settings all in place (ie....nothing for you to do)....
However, some places will require the user to enter some information (for example, dns settings, WEP key, etc)

In settings, wireless lan, advanced it states that I am connected to the network, but I still can't connect when using IE?
the message reads : " U~nable to obtain a server assigned IP address . . . etc"
Do you have DHCP enabled on the wireless router? Have you used the wireless network with another device?
Mmm, very good question!
The answer is "don't know". Will check and let you know Syn.
Will start again.now that I have managed to "flash my rom"
Well this is what I have :
Wireless Network
Name (SSID):
Region: --- Select Region ---AfricaAsiaAustraliaCanadaEuropeFranceIsraelJapanMexicoSouth AmericaUnited States
Channel: 01020304050607080910111213
Wireless Access Point
Enable Wireless Access Point
Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)
Wireless Card Access List
Security Encryption (WEP)
Authentication Type: AutomaticOpen SystemShared Key
Encryption Strength: Disable64bit128bit
I have added the device to my wireless network list with the MAC address
Signal is VERY GOOD!!!
Am I missing out son some settings?

I've tried to set up a new connection as Internet Explorer tells me it cannot connect with the current settings?
What settings do I need?
I have entered the WEP key, and I don't use passwords on my wifi system??

Do I need an IP address?

First things first, forget the PDA for few moments and lets establish what is going on with your AP. The question that [sYn] has asked is very important - do you have DHCP enabled on the AP. The answer you posted is meaningless as it only shows the options and not the current config. Interrogate the AP and look for where the LAN side DCHP option is and make sure it is set to ENABLE or ON or whatever positive indication is used.
Once you are sure this is configured (ideally tested with a PC) then go get your PDA and try connecting again. If it still doesn't work disable all the security and encryption settings and turn off that stupid MAC address authentication which, by the way, is pointless. If needs be do a factory reset on the AP. With no security enabled try conecting the PDA. It more than likely will connect now. Once it does start building up your security one layer at a time making sure you test at each stage. Can I suggest that you forget WAP and MAC authentication and use a WPA Pre-Shared Key instead as this provides bucket loads more security.
Hope this helps.
JT, thanks for all your help!
I use a netgear router. Whilst awaiting a reply here I did a bit of research and took of the security of my router. I then connected my device using a shared key (I have always had this) and then put the security back on.
I had to reconnect my laptop too. I think the reason isthat the router was set for an automatic setting and I chaned this to an open system.
THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP !!!

alright i need help connecting to my home wireless router. (and yes it is a wireless G router, i just installed that thing that lets it work with wireless G)
alright so here is what i do step by step.
1. hit the comm manager button, and hit WLAN so it connects.
2. choose my account
3. enter the network key
4. I hit settings, and i see i have a great signal
5. a pop up says "unable to assign a server-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network Settings".
6. I hit settings in comm manager then hit wi-fi settings
7. I see all my info on the main button and i hit the advanced button
8. Status = associated to network... Mac address is filled in... IP says 0.0.0.0 and i can't change that.
if anybody can help me that would be great.
9. now after a long time of not doing anything, a pop up says the network key is incorrect. enter the correct key and tap connect. Except I know it was correct because i entered it very carefully, and all my info (#7) showed up.
somebody help me
try static ip allocation
start>settings>connections > network cards > WLAN card> IP, subnetmask, dns gateway...etc etc u know the drill
alright I put in all of those settings, but still when i turn wifi on, it still asks me for my network key, and still try's connecting to the normal WLAN.... ughhh...
Seems to me like your security settings arent quite right, but thats a guess. I had a similar problem with a PC when I had enabled MAC filtering. You don't have that turned on on your router do you.
To rule out (or in) security settings, I would disable my routers security and make sure I could log on to an open network, then go from there.
Oh I know i can log into an open network, I did at a coffee shop a little while ago. And I know I can connect to my router, my other computer is and so can my PSP.
I have a similar problem. I didnt have this problem a couple of weeks ago and managed to connect without a problem. However now I'm having the same symptoms as the first poster.
When I disabled the security setings on my router, I managed to connect and received an IP address. However DNS was not working. Explorer refused to bring up any page. I couldnt even access my router's home page using just the IP address. I even tried entering the DNS IP address manually but this didnt solve the problem. Skype managed to connect without a problem though.
Cheers

I had the same issue even after I turned off the security, mac filter etc. It would connect once but after a suspend, it wouldn't connect at all. I have a d-Link DI614+ router. Finally figured out that the MDA was not going thru the channels properly. I had my router set to 10 and it would not budge beyond 11. I just changed the router channel to default to 11 and turned on security and filtering one by one and everything worked. My advice is to set the router to a default state and attempt to connect it. If that doesn't work, throw a temper tantrum and remove all settings on the MDA and go thru step by step again...
i wants to know how can i access some unsecured network that are near my work place. Basically there are some unsecured network near my work, i have tried to connect to these networks so that i can use internet. However i have no luck in accessing it.
Do i need to enter any ip address in the network adapter or the ip address is automatically taken????
At the moment i have assigned the ip address to 192.168.1.201 so that i can connect to my orange live box.
Thanks in advance
it depend on the wifi router setup
as default it run dhcp and asign you an ip
but that can be turned off
some wifi's require a login to the internet isp's site or telnet to open for internet (i know my home one does)
also you cant really see if a wifi router use mac filtering
for security then it will just not route for you if your mac add is not on it's list
