Anywhere from 370ish to 420 is a good res on the N3, try them all and see. It depends on your eyes really and whats comfortable. I used to run 400.
In Nova settings just change your Grids to whatever you want 6*6 etc etc.

Yup. My note 2 is rooted stock and I have different dpi settings for different apps.
Everything you need is in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012770
The mod that uses the framework at the beginning of that thread is on page 15 ish.
The best thing about it is that it doesn't need flashing and you can just turn it on and off as you like.

N3 TW DPI change

Having been a flash'o'holic with my note 1 I really want to keep stock tw on the new note 3 for all the spen stuff. But I can't stand 340 dpi, is there going to be a way to switch this to at least 240 when we all finally get our notes? Or will it take awhile and involve custom sam apps to get this working? Failing that I fear I'll be rooting and flashing within the first month just hate everything blown up looking, this is the reason we buy big screen phones? For the extra screen space not a magnified look..
Chances are that many of the s-pen feature apps/functions will not work well with lower DPI... I'm just guessing from my experiences with both the GN1 AND GN2

This will be my first time purchasing a GN phone...so when you root it you will not be able to use the s pen features? It cannot be implemented into the ROM?

it can be in tw roms but not aosp roms. and he is saying that adjusting the dpi may mess with the s pen features since they are set up for stock standard sized tw

I understand what he was inquiring about...I just had a side question. Makes sense on both accounts...whether you mess with dpi on stock or not...could affect it.
thanks for answering

I forgot what xposed framework app it was, but after changing dpi to 240 or 270, you could set other stock apps (like clock, phone, s-planner, etc) back to the stock dpi for no impact.
Its called app settings i believe

I love xposed..... That is a must on the Note 3!

Agreed, 240 dpi rules
I used 240 dpi on my note 2 as well and that was very nice and worked perfectly with the spen.
But 240 will be to small on a 1080p screen (I run my s4 at 360 which is pretty much the same look) I guess everything will work just perfectly like it did in the note 2 @ 240 dpi. Looks the same

Stock dpi for the N3 will be 480. You can bring it down to 320 and it will be the same effect of going from 320 to 240 on the N2
And changing the screen DPI shouldn't affect the S-Pen features. From what I've read, The overflow feature it has is based on a sensor on the phone and pressing the button on the S-Pen. Every other input the S-Pen has will work fine as well.

Just use Xposed App setting after installing Xposed Framework .
Im running certain apps on 360 dpi without any problems with S-Pen features. Although I do feel that 360 is a tad too small on certain apps but again you can customize it for each app.

Did you switch to 360? And how did you do it? No problems at all?

I too have just come from a note 1 and done something that was probably silly.
I rooted my note 3 and changed the build.prop to 260dpi with rom toolbox but when it booted the system ui fc's and I can't get anywhere.
After failing to open any apps, I went to recovery and wiped data, rebooted and dpi change has remained.
Is there anyway I can revert or at least get it working without flashing another rom? If it's the rom, can the stock one be picked up from anywhere?
* edit *
Also, the reactivation lock is set back to on. Not sure how as I turned it off to root. Now I can't seem to flash a custom recovery due to that I think. Any ideas?

Dude, YOU'RE DOOMED! Lol.
Do you know if you activated debugging mode and have your PC authorised at all? If so, You could pull the build.prop, edit it put it back and keep your fingers crossed.

Could you adb pull the build.prop, edit it, then push it back?
Okay guys summerizing, change the build.prop dont work. Only Xposed work until today?!

I did have Nova installed as my default home launcher. COuld of been another option that I removed/disabled with Tibu. But when I redo everything again with all the same things removed under Tibu, and I restarted, everything worked fine. Only did not restart after I made DPI changes. I did also have Xposed turned on with some modules running. Want to try it again, but I hate going thru process of setting everything up again if it does not work. We need a recovery for this phablet! :silly:
blap017: How did u change your DPI? App or build.prop?

How low did you go and did you use nova and another keyboard as default. If you do no reason it should. I set mine to 320 just to see. Had Google keyboard and nova. No loops and set it in the build prop. However I like 480 it seems.

I'm running at 320 with Nova and the Samsung KB. 320 on this device seems pretty equivalent to 280 on the Galaxy Nexus, for anyone interested. I changed mine through ROM Toolbox.
320 is tiny. Supposed to be the same as 240 on the note 2 but it seems smaller...
Not to mention some apps can only run at 480. We need a list of apps so we can make app settings changes.

Dpi change ?

I personally think the status bar and pull down menu is to large for my liking, is there a mod that I can change the dpi on the note 3?

I've just installed texdroider dpi from the play store. It's currently set at 480 dpi on stock , anybody used this to go any lower. If so what are you guys using?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Search for Xposed, read about it, install it and use the 'app settings' module to change the dpi of everything on your note!
Respect!
DPI is easily changed in build.prop, but some apps don't display properly, or it might just be choosing the correct dpi for those apps to scale like they should.
Right now I'm using 420 as my default dpi, and xposed/app settings to change the dpi to default for the dialer and the camera to scale properly.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
With texdroider doesn't this change the whole dpi where as app settings is just the apps you choose?

It's your choice, either change the system dpi in build.prop and then fix apps that won't scale properly with App Settings, or go the other way around change each app independently.

Is there any way to change dpi of note 10.1 2014..
And does lowering dpi really makes apps run faster?.

I think you have to be rooted to change dpi. There are several apps but they can soft brick you very easily. Best is what is mentioned above. Be rooted, install xposed framework, and install the "app settings"" module. From there you can tweak individual dpi for almost everything. I adjust the following to get good uniformity, systemui, launcher (whichever you are using) and settings. Works great on my devices. I don't have the SGN 10.1 yet but that's the plan. It also allows you to change just the font size or lock rotation for a particular app, or even force full screen.
