And i want to use stock based rom. I dont want sacrifice air pen like tools.

Yup. My note 2 is rooted stock and I have different dpi settings for different apps.
Everything you need is in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012770
The mod that uses the framework at the beginning of that thread is on page 15 ish.
The best thing about it is that it doesn't need flashing and you can just turn it on and off as you like.

Since I won't get to mess with my S3 until Monday, just curious... what's everyone think about stock DPI (306, if I remember right)? On my Note I found 240 to be perfect over the stock 320.

It's at 320 stock I haven't changed it yet.

Just changed it to 240 and TouchWiz crashed repeatedly. I had to double tap hope and have SVoice launch the play store and download apex. With apex it looked great, like my note did. So I then changed it to 280 and touchwiz didn't crash but looked jacked up I just returned to stock. Hope this helps.

I thought about lowering dpi but I like the way it looks now. Maybe when I get tired of it ill change it lol

Are you modifying the build.prop directly, or do you have an app you use? Looking for recommendations...
Thanks for the feedback. On my Note (rooted), I used ROM Toolbox to adjust DPI... worked perfectly.

The dialer, s voice, notification screen and some other elements are not friendly to lower DPI. I changed the dpi to 240 and had to change it back because it didn't look right.

Didn't want to post this in the dev topic, so figured I'd bring it back here... anyone know of any plans to dev for multi DPI? There was quite a bit of it for the Note... granted the screen is .5" bigger. Just wondering because I've had mine at 280 and thought that was about right, but changed it back to 320 because of some app incompatibilities.
Hello XDA,
I am currently using SlimROM and I love the ROM because it allows me to use the IR Blaster along with a DPI of 380 but I obviously loose the TouchWiz (TW) features like the camera app, air gestures etc.
I was using a TW ROM but when I changed the DPI (Using ROMToolBox) the DIaler, Camera were just not in proportion to the new 380 DPI i used.
My question is does anybody know how I can fix this? Is there a "380 DPI dialer/camera apk" that someone has posted?
I've noticed in the i9505 section there are flashable zips for the dialler, camera, lockscreen and gallery but none of these work on our devices.
If some could assist that would be greatly appreciated!
Keep your DPI at normal, install Xposed framework and use the per app DPI changer. You can use that to change the DPI of specific things.

Dear all,
I have been trying to adjust the lcd density by editing the build.prop, but somehow changing the value does not seem to have any effect. I also tried wiping the cache and dalvik cache via twrp after applying the build.prop edit, but still no luck.
My previous experiance with non samsung devices was just editing the build.prop and making a reboot to acheive the result.
Any ideas?
Many thanks

Ok. Answering myself. Seems the build.prop has the density value listed twice. Once i changed it in both instances then all went ok. Btw, imho 160 dpi looks way better
Sent from my SM-T310 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You mean you set both 160, I also noticed that the density value listed twice too, because I am thinking of switching my Tab 3 7.0 to PhoneUI. Phone, Contacts, Messages & Email in TabletUI are annoying. The column for names of peoples in portrait mode is too small.
Yup. Switched both to 160. Now it looks like this

Another nice thing i discovered is that the multi window thing now opens apps in floating popups rather the the split screen. Afaik this is the way its done on the bigger screen tabs.
The downturn of this is that you cannot drag the windows around the screen and cannot resize those.
Could it possibly be that someone has an idea of how to port the functionality from the eg 10.1 model?
Could assume that this might take a replacement of the flashservice apk by another one.
What do you ppl think?

hi, i just rooted my tab3 8inch and installed xpose framework and app setting module,
from here you can set per app DPI setting instead of change the whole DPI.
i have notice that Gmail and G+ app look awesome with 160 DPI and 800x1280 DP
Hi. And thanks for the heads up. Though i am fully aware of the xposed app settings, but i do preferr the whole system at 160 dpi seems to make a much better use of the screen real estate...
What i was wondering was if its possible to port the multi window where you can actually drag windows around the screen that ive seen in a review of a bigger tab 3...

Ok... so hg need help!
Changed the build prop to 160 in 2 places where screen density was mentioned. One had the value 213 and the other 320.
Rebooted and now the tab wont get past the samsung logo right before the lockscreen... any ideas?

2 rlrmineiro, mate you shluld be carefull when editing the build.prop and make sure you set the file's permissions same as they were before the edit. This goes for all the system file edits.

OK... managed to change the doing and am on 160 looks great. Tried 240 and looks like a phone and 200 cuts a bit of the screen to the right and breaks some apps... do you have any other working solutions? Thanks

Well for the android there are some standard dpi's like 160, 240, 360, 480 are the ones i can remeber...
Most of the apps should support all of these, but no guarantee for the samsung stuff. For me 160 is the daily driver and i use xposed with the app setting plugin for the things that look weird

Ive been fumbling around a little bit and found out that 188 dpi looks best for me as it keeps the text a little bit bigger. Im also using the xposed mod to setup individual apps to my liking as playstore and youtube to large screen tablet ui. Couldnt find a dpi for the gallery to always display the thumbnails without cutting a bit of the right side margin. Thx for your help.

Yeah I checked mine, only one in build.prop I have the 10.1 and its 160dpi stock.

Im on the 7" (210R) and edited the line I would think is necessary (lcd.density.etc - as usual with minor changes only for different types). Their is not 2 lines in this one, but their is one. Changed, fixed the permission set back, guess I cant fix permissions in Philz Touch 5, and thats weird. It was originally 240, now 160, and i see no difference. lol Havnt done the xposed route yet with this, but I would only use that for some apps to change either back or to a different dpi. Its very odd.
^^^^^ you try setting the permissions for buildprop manually using something like root explorer?
Sent from my EVO 4G LTE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
That's how I edited it, and actually screwed it up. Had to make a flashable build.prop to get back to normal. I guess their are issues with these tablets and editing build.prop. made a flashable build.prop with 160 dpi to no avail.

That looks pretty good. But for me it's no luck. Keeping 160 dpi messed up my touchwiz. Any solution to fix this? BTW, thanks for sharing the info.
I personally think the status bar and pull down menu is to large for my liking, is there a mod that I can change the dpi on the note 3?

I've just installed texdroider dpi from the play store. It's currently set at 480 dpi on stock , anybody used this to go any lower. If so what are you guys using?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Search for Xposed, read about it, install it and use the 'app settings' module to change the dpi of everything on your note!
Respect!
DPI is easily changed in build.prop, but some apps don't display properly, or it might just be choosing the correct dpi for those apps to scale like they should.
Right now I'm using 420 as my default dpi, and xposed/app settings to change the dpi to default for the dialer and the camera to scale properly.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
With texdroider doesn't this change the whole dpi where as app settings is just the apps you choose?

It's your choice, either change the system dpi in build.prop and then fix apps that won't scale properly with App Settings, or go the other way around change each app independently.

Anywhere from 370ish to 420 is a good res on the N3, try them all and see. It depends on your eyes really and whats comfortable. I used to run 400.
In Nova settings just change your Grids to whatever you want 6*6 etc etc.
