[Q] G900f Kernel with fast charge and knox removal?? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i use my galaxy s5 with an mhl adaptor to connect to my appradio in car touchscreen stereo, the problem being is that charging is limited to 300ma/h, running the display on plus playing music etc and occasional sat nav takes a lot more power than the mhl can provide, knox removal is needed to allow the connection to work, i currently have xtrestorelite rom v1.1 and ael kernel 3.4.0, fast charge shows its supposedly activated in kernel tweaker and trickster mod, but galaxy charging status app shows 300ma/h still.
Is their any known working kernel with knox removed and fast charge working?
thanks

Ktoonsez and faux123 there kernels support fast charge and oc support, if you want it stock than use wanam his kernel also a beast kernel
Verstuurd vanaf mijn SM-G900F met Tapatalk

The mhl must be limiting the charge rate as fast charge is active on several kernels i have tried and 300ma is the most i can muster.

[Q] USB OTG + pogo charging

I've seen this question pop up a while ago but it doesn't appear to have been solved. Someone mentioned that the KTManta kernal might have solved this but I couldn't find that answered anywhere in that thread (here). I am using the USB OTG cable to control an IR Droid USB transmitter in a permanent kiosk installation and I need the pogo connector to supply power so this can run 24/7.
Any help is much appreciated!
UPDATE:
Wooo!!! Just thought I'd give the kernel a shot and see what happens... it works! I have a separate USB voltage meter that confirms, as well as seeing the battery % increase while being used, and my IR Droid is also working.
Just install the above mentioned kernel, plug in the USB Y OTG cable into tablet, external power supply to the male USB end of Y adapter, and external device (mine being the IR Droid device) to female USB end. Plug second power supply (I used the 2.4a (12w) iPad charger) into pogo connector. Win.
Ktoonsez, your next few beers are on me, good sir!!
UPDATE: The latest KTManta kernel (04-06-2014) breaks root (SuperSU) with the stock rom. In my case that is v4.4.4 so I've had to revert to my nandroid backup. The issue has been known for a long while but it seems the dev is prioritizing his kernel on other devices. Obviously this means I'll not be testing any time soon.
Interesting, I've wanted this solution for a long time as I use an USB Ethernet adapter from a room with poor WiFi reception. I'll see if it makes any difference if the OTG USB device is attached to a powered USB hub or not and report back.

Oh man, I wish I knew about it breaking root before installing!! I was wondering why it was saying I wasn't rooted... Is there a way to fix root while on this kernel?
I'm having some issues with the tablets now that I didn't have before - the most basic seems that it won't boot (won't even start the Google logo) if I have both OTG device and Pogo connected at same time when the tablet is off. I did solder my own right angle tip onto the OTG Y cable though, so I may have messed something up... I'm going to be doing some more testing over the next couple days and I'll keep this up to date.
"Is there a way to fix root while on this kernel?"
The root issue with KTManta's latest release is specifically with the stock ROM from what I've read in the N10 KTManta thread. So it would seem that installing a non-stock ROM then installing the KTManta kernel would be the only way to get this kernel and root. I'm unwilling to do that for this single feature. There were comments that root was still working on an older KTManta release which if I can remember is from Dec 2013. I've no idea if that release has the charging features you see with the latest release.
If you go the custom ROM route then read the KTManta thread to find out which custom ROM's are working. Don't quote me but I thought the OMNI ROM was one that worked, please confirm that for yourself.
From my experience stock with the XPosed framework is more stable than any custom ROM and I've tried many.

So there were a few other issues that I found out while testing...
If you have USB plugged in, then reboot, the tablet freezes while trying to boot. It doesn't even get to the loading screen.
It seems a bit buggy as to when it wants to work and when it doesn't, and all the while the tablet says that it's charging so it is hard to test, but I was using a USB volt meter to see if the pogo was actually taking power or not.
The next thing I want to test is using a powered USB hub, instead of a Y cable. Has anybody done this successfully? Does it need the modified kernel? Does it ACTUALLY charge, or just say that it is?

I use a powered hub to access an Ethernet adapter while concurrently having the pogo plug attached. The result is that the tablet drains slower as the Ethernet adapter is drawing power from USB Hub rather than the tablet. The tablet does not get charged in anyway despite the false charging icon indicator. This is why your post was so interesting to me until I discovered that root was lost. I can live the charging and OTG limitations but I can't loose root.

I tried this the same way as SupremeTaco described.
My nexus 10 runs the latest Omnirom 4.4.4 with latest KTManta kernel.
I plugged in the OTG Y Cable, which was connected to a charger and a usb SD-card reader. Then I plugged in the Pogo charger and to my surprise, the Nexus 10 charges yay! (I saw the battery percentage increase as I was using device with screen on)
SupremeTaco thank you for this great tip, I have been looking for a solution for a long time. I can now charge my Nexus 10 16GB while using a Meenova reader with 64GB microSD card - which is extremely useful :good: :good:

I'm glad it helped! But be careful as you may have issues booting with the USB plugged in. Let me know if this does happen to you... it may just be the version of the kernel I was using but I gave up and am looking for another solution at this point, since I must leave the USB plugged in 24/7
Pogo works great
Should have bought one earliar

Sorry for the slow response,
I did some testing with both KTManta kernel and the stock Omnirom kernel and indeed booting with USB plugged in does not work. The culprit seems to be the OTG Y-Cable and specifically the power supply part. If you disconnect power from the Y cable but leave everything else plugged into the tablet, the tablet will boot. Perhaps you could have a power switch for the Y-cable and switch it off only when booting?
Also, I have discovered that Pogo charging with Y-cable also works on stock Omnirom kernel. So it seems that the kernel does not affect the charging capability with this setup in anyway, so we are not limited to using KTManta. However the booting issue does not seem to be a kernel-related problem.
Edit: I also confirmed charging in this way works with franco kernel r16 (so it will probably work with all other franco kernels and any other custom kernel)

galaxy s4 battery is charging very very slow

Hello,
I am one of the proud owners of Galaxy S4, so far still in good condition, but sometimes the battery is charging very very slow, and the battery icon flashes on the display and it vibrates at every 30 sec. Should I be prepared to buy a replacement battery or charger? I don't want to put the money out right now to replace the phone.
This happens to me once in a while when I pour beer in my usb port. (don't ask me how). When it charges slowly, check the battery stats in the settings menu and see if it charges by usb. If so, then that's the reason why it charges so slowly.
Buy some 99% alcohol and clean it using a tooth brush.
If it still charges slowly, then flash a custom kernel so you can enable faster charging true usb. Ktoonz kernel for example. When you flashed that kernel you have a Ktoonz settings app where you can select faster charging true usb.
After you charged it a few times, you can probably flash back the old kernel and the problem should be solved.

[Q] N9005 kernel 2A USB Charging

Hello there !
Got my Note 3 recently, been reading here and there.
Decided to screw Knox and went 0x1, only 6 month warranty left anyway, and I love flashing, tweaking to get the phone as I want !
Coming from a note 2, I had to try the Phoenix port on my N3, and pretty satisfied for now (heard it's risky to downgrade LL to KK so I'm waiting for now...)
On Note 2, I had a kernel allowing 2A rate charge from anywhere, AC, PC Usb, Car charger...
Things where checked using Galaxy Charging Current
On note 3, I saw the fast charging thing, but can't get what I want.
I tried CivZ and Ultimate kernel, both talk about this, and allow custom settings, but they both lock usb to 1A, under settings there is an option to remove security stuff to allow 2.1A anywhere, but it doesn't seem to work :
PC USB stuck at 1A
3m cable on AC gets 1A, and sometimes 1.8, need to plug/unplug for it to randomly select charging current..
USB3 original cable on AC 2.1A.
Car charger is working at 2.
I tried Stweaks/Synapse
Is there any kernel allowing such things ? bypass security and get max charge rate from anywhere ? (like I had on N2)
It's ok if it's LL rom only, I'll probably upgrade someday, tho I hope Xposed will be 100% stable soon.
If there is nothing, then I'm a bit disappointed, how could N2 have this things and we don't anymore, especially for the 3m cable, really, a must have !
(Bonus question, can QI charger really charge at 1.2A as Options suggests ? Would it charge through a TPU plastic case ?)
Thanks for help
Bump, anyone ?
Haven't seen any.
But try some kernel tweak apps.
For now I tried Synapse, S tweaks, Devil manager, but, don't options also come from the kernel itself before being possible in the app ?

Seems Arters is Lolipop only.
Wish someone that use it could check
Now running Arya 6.0
Still looking for something :x

Question about custom kernels and quick charge/fast charge?

I have a question because i have seen a couple of kernels that enable the fast charge function.
Do those kernels enable the qualcom 9.0V, 1.67A quick charging? (I have one of that charger)
If they enable that function is not a risk? I think if the mainboard would support it (even if the cpu communicates with the carger saying, yes ok, toggle to 9V, maybe the charging ramps/batttery and the resistors in the charging way on the mainboard does not support that kind of voltage...
If there was only a flag to enable in the kernel why do OP did not enable it by themselves?
I think proper fast charge is done by hardware not present in op2. Some kernels supposedly allow for "faster" charging that is still within safe limits, although id rather spend 30 mins longer charging than rish decreasung battery life slowly over 2 yrs ill have the op2

Galaxy S4 SM-S975L CM 13 6.0.1 SLOW Charging?

So today i flashed my SM-S975L from 4.3 Jelly Bean to 6.0.1 Marshmallow CM 13 and the battery life seems fine, however the trouble seems to come when I go to charge. Even plugged in directly to the wall with a wall adapter and using a 2.1 Amp port on a mobile charger it does not seem to want to charge quickly at all. In fact when I went to plug it into the wall at 2% it actually completely DIED and shut off. Plugged into the mobile charger it discharged as well and didn't charge at all despite the phone saying it was "plugged in" I also get the "Slow charging" label on the lock screen when plugged into the wall and mobile charger. It didn't seem to have an issue when it was on 4.3 Jelly Bean so I don't know what the issue is. Is their some setting i'm overlooking? I've tried a couple different cables as well. I am a noob here but I've been using Android's for years. Currently I'm charging it while turned off to see if that helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
(UPDATE) I downloaded Ampere and it's only pulling about 500 MA on the wall charger. However it's not a great charge brick, I'll try to find my nicer one tomorrow.
(UPDATE) Same deal with a 5V Apple wall charger, So I just installed the Reconstruction Remix 5.74 Kernel that supports fast charging to see if that fixes it.
(UPDATE) Moved to Lineage OS 7.1.2 AROMA for more kernel support and using the default kernel in the installer. I now get "Charging rapidly" but the MA on Ampere has stayed the same although it does appear the numbers are bumped up atleast a little bit on Ampere.
