My Files File Manager Missin - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My first post being a week old android user after moving from ios so please consider the stupidity i'm about to explain .
The problem i have is with the N900 exynos model with 4.4.2 ( rooted )
Today i installed s5 file manager port for my note 3 According to the instruction ,
I installed it and restarted but saw no change . So i replaced the secmyfiles2.apk file
In system/app and system/priv-app , deleted the secmyfiles2.odex and restarted
And got the warning "UIDs on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable." . When i clicked all apps , my files app was missing , not just from the launcher but app manager too . So with hopes to get it back , I WIPED DATA PARTITION and did a full reset . and when the reset was done n i opened my apps , "my files " app was missing , not just from the launcher , from all apps as well . Now that file in system/app has a generic apk icon and " parsing error " message appears when i click it . Also , the s5 file manager apk that i downloaded installed previously but now it ends with an error " App not installed " when i try to install it directly . I cropped the screenshot to shrink the size due to upload limits . Please help me solve the issue . Thanks

I would , but I'm selling it to get N9005 and the buyer excepts all stock apps with root , flashing new firmware is not an option for me
Coz my internet is way too slow . Btw , can the problem be solved if i have N900's original odex and apk from system/app and priv-app folder ? If yes , can anyone please share

cop)y it in priv app and give permissions

1 : no
2 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/guide-noob-guide-to-set-file-permissions-t1857648

No luck still now the app icon is showing up in priv-appfolder and i have ticked all permissions but its still not showing in launcher or installed apps . Please dont give up on me

you must boot again.....

Yes , I put the app and odex in system/priv-app and restarted but it had no effect , tried putting it in app folder and restarting too n still the same . I even gave it a full reset to see if I have some luck but the file manager is still missing

I have attached a screen shot of my " about " to see if it helps regarding the
Odex and ask compatibility or similar .

Last solution is flash stock with odin...

any idea why the file manager doesn't install like it used to before the problem occured and now says " app not installed " ?

I send you N9005 files... maybe not compatible with N900......

Yeah I think so too . Any way I can get the N900 files ? Downloading a stock
Fi for n900 will take forever with my Internet . Would be better if I could get the files for test .

Tab 2 and Swapsd

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P3113 with 4.1.1 installed . Rooted it with no problem .Was going to use swapsd on it since i use it on my Samsung exhibit ii 4g . It wouldnt flash on my tab , so i downloaded the apk from jocala .
The apk installed fine , but after a reboot i was getting many errors , unfortunatly , ******* has stopped . Was coming up with at least 15 different programs, display, storage , mtp ...etc
So i did a factory reset , still had the problems . wiped cache and tried a few other things . Started to download a stock rom , and remembered what swapsd actualy did . it modified the file vold.fstab in the /etc dir , luckily it made a backup of the original. I had to go to the play store and download es file explorer ( a horrible program, root explorer is much better ) . Set it up to allow root access and root dir . Went to /etc and deleted vold.fstab and renamed the backup to its original .
I dont know if anyone else has had this problem , but just in case someone uses swapsd and has the same problems, this is the fix for it .
Also , does anyone know if there is a way to use the external sdcard instead of the internal ? Samsung needs to allow us to install to external sdcard .
There is a workarund. Search for an app called FolderMount. It's here, on xda.
You can use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33398164
Because you are on firmware that is below 4.2
I use folder mount because I'm on a ROM that is 4.2.2, i can say that both work well, but you can use the former to entirely swap your SD. Just follow the instructions and it works well.

hey just root your phone with cf root download rootbrowser and replace the downloaded version with the one in system/app

Hi guys!
I'm bumping an ancient thread here, hope that's okay with you.
I have this old S4+ lying around. I love it's Gallery app due to the built-in possibility to losslessly trim MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) videos by cutting to nearest keyframe, and also lossless rotation by changing the rotation metadata flag of the MP4 file in question. This simple feature is not implemented in "modern" Gallery apps, or well at least not in the OnePlus 5T I'm using today. So, I was thinking I could extract the .APK from my S4+ (running Android 5.x) and put it in my OP5T (running Android 8.x) without too much headache. Guess if I was wrong.
I get the error about that app was not installed. After browsing around on e.g. ApkMirror, I ultimately found a Samsung Galaxy derived Gallery .APK that I could install, it was a very early version (v1.x.something) which has the cutting feature, but not the rotation (flag changing) feature. So, this ancient Gallery3D .apk installed well, but not the one on my own Galaxy S4+.
So, what could be my issue? Is the .APK flagged to be installed as a system app, and due to my OP5T not being rooted I don't have access too /system/app/, therefor the error? Could it be that simple? If so, is it possible the modify the .APK to install as in /data/app/ instead? Of course I'd resign the APK with some dummy/androiddebug signature afterwards to make installation possible.
Could it be some silly (not really needed) demand listed in the AndroidManifest.xml of the APK in question? If so, is it possible to replace the AndroidManifest.xml with a very "basic" one listing more or less no demands, and re-wrap everything with new signature?
I'm really investigating all my options __except__ for having to root my OnePlus!
I figured that I could get a more specific error message from ADB than by just trying to install the .APK through the phone interface.
So, here goes..
Code:
C:\>adb.exe install F:\Galleri_com.sec.android.gallery3d.apk
adb: failed to install F:\Galleri_com.sec.android.gallery3d.apk: Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INVALID_APK: Package couldn't be installed in /data/app/com.sec.android.gallery3d-RAEW5FZ4VBWqTWXx48LPmQ==: Package /data/app/com.sec.android.gallery3d-RAEW5FZ4VBWqTWXx48LPmQ==/base.apk code is missing]
What does this tell me?

The Galaxy S4 and most Samsung devices has a second framework app, twframework-res.apk, that only works with their apps. Here's the fun part: the existing Android framework-res.apk is modified by Samsung so both framework apps are required by a given Samsung app to function. Even better is that you cannot simply port the app and twframework-res.apk to a totally different device and expect it to function. You'd have to port the framework-res.apk as well, and with that apk being a system file, you'd soft brick your device after copying it and rebooting.
The tl;dr here? What you're attempting won't work due to Samsung modifications to Android.

[Q] Trouble with screen auto rotate when rooted, or rooted ROM ?

Hello, I have just wasted about a day of my time on this issue.
Problem:
When I root my S4, running Kitkat, or load custom Kitkat ROM - wanamlite in my case, then the auto rotate screen feature stops working.
The problem is not in the HW - the camera app, which rotates labels on the screen based on orientation - kept working through all the trouble.
Details:
- I decided to root my S4, mainly to be able to install xposed/xprivacy and Titanium Backup
- first, I rooted the stock ROM, using the chainfire method. Worked fine
- I did not install custom recovery at this point
- removed few modules in TB
- noticed that the screen auto rotate stopped working
- restored the removed modules in TB, auto rotate still not working
- installed TWRP and Wanamlite. Screen rotation first worked, but after some time ( and my guess is after few reboots ), screen auto rotate failed again.
I was unable to fix this, so I had to go back to stock ROM ( Swiss FNB9 ), to get the phone working again.
Searching on Google, it seems that few of the Samsung devices have this problem of screen auto-rotation not working after rooting....
Before I try rooting again, is this a known problem ? Any fix with a high degree of reliability ?
Thanks for any info, Paul.

Wow, very much appreciated! This worked perfectly for my S4 with KitKat.
Today I noticed my auto screen rotation stopped. I googled around, tried many work-arounds, but none of them helped. A hard reset didn't work, a soft reset didn't work, Bluetooth/GPS/WiFi off didn't help, calibration using an app didn't work, etc.
I rooted my phone (as I had before, but because of the hard reset I had to root it again), installed Root Explorer, and put the libgnustl_shared.so file in the System/lib folder (while mounted R/W). I rebooted and BAM! Auto screen rotation was back again!

That fixed it indeed !! Thanks man ! I had problems pasting the file into that directory but the "root browser" app from the play store could paste it. Then changed permissions, rebooted and ... back is screen rotation !!! Thanks !! :good:

BTW, so it seems the problem is that when you uninstall samsung HUB (which I indeed did), it removes that particular file. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49604191

Hi, Besides hitting the THANKS button, I would like to give following information for other users:
I have PhilzTouch installed and tried to flash the zip file severel times, But everytime after wiping cache part. and dalvik I noticed that nothing changed.
So I did the copy/paste action as described and after rebooting it worked.
Hi All,
I had the same issue when i rooted my device, and lost the rotation and use the method described here to fix the issue.
But after reboot the phone it will keep popping the message " Unfortunately, Samsung Hub has stopped" and it won't go away or let me do anything on the phone, as soon as i hit the OK button it will popup again.
Any possible fix for that, Please !!!
Thank you all.

Can someone help me with this, please... I have no idea what this means.
1) I downloaded the file
2) The instructions say to move the libgnustl_shared.so file into System>>Lib. When I download the file, libgnustl_shared.so is already in a folder called System>Lib...
3) Someone else said to FLASH via recover or something?? What does that mean? Can someone explain this in straightfoward terms? Thank you.
In that case, you should try to replace the existing file with the new one.
You just need to set up the parameters of the file (permissions into rw r r) as explained before. You can do it with ES Explorer for instance.
No need to do something else, just reboot.

changin permission parameters for getting screen rotation
OK, easy, my first question was and has been "how to change the permissions".
And alone, not being an Android Geek, I succeeded !!!
First use Root Explorer, with it copy and paste (or move) the " libgnustl_shared.so" file in the "\system\lib" directory.
Once it's done (always with Root Explorer) apply a finger on this new file, a menu appears and choose "Permissions". Then there, keep only Read on the three lines, and only Write on the first line. Then click on OK.
And reboot your system.
Amazing, it's working, like the first day and before you rooted it...
Thanks again for your solution.
thanks
works great on i9505 kitkat. don't forget to reboot
no permission
im getting this when i try to do it,
"changing permissions was not successful. please note that some file systems do not allow permission changes"
anyone know how to get around this??
cheers

[Q] Rotation not working + gyroscope calibration missing

Hi there,
i am having problems that i cant use the rotate of the s4 (currently with 4.2.2 dbt)
after a hardreset everything was fine. then i uninstalled some samsung apps which i do not want to have on my device with titanium.
since then the rotate is not working again.
does someone know which of this apps is mandatory in order for the rotation to work.
the suggestion to calibrate doesnt work for me either because this section is missing under my device settings (even after a hardreset).

thank you a lot for helping me out and not letting me start by scratch again. and also not forcing me to install samsung software on my device.
now the only question left... why am i still missing the gyroscope option under the device settings..?!?! :-/
i have never seen this option on my device at all.

Its ok Btw thnks fr help
@ankrishx18 if you have that tar.md5 rom stored on your phone or memory card temporarily delete the last part of the file extension so it's just romsname.tar instead of romsname.tar.md5
from there you'll be able to open it with zarchiver https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.zdevs.zarchiver
and then extract/copy the apk from /system/apps/
you'll need to be rooted though in order to paste it into your own /system/apps/ folder and change it's permissions to 644 aka rw_ r__ r__ and then reboot.
if you have it on your PC you could try renaming it romsname.zip but I don't know if that will work (never tried it). don't forget to put it back to what it should be after
@3mel I just found this inside in system.img which was present in "rom.tar.md5"
when i try to open system.img with pc it gives me an error "The disc image file is corrupted"
and no system apps is visible inside this img
my bad I forgot that it's not like a zip would be inside.
there are 2 tools you need to open roms on PC and that's something I don't do so I can't remember the name of them. I'll see if I can hunt down the apk for you instead, but as I don't know what the original file size it should be this could be dodgy...
are you rooted ? and what version are you on ? I'll see about downloading a small custom touchwiz rom and extracting it from there for you if nobody else jumps in to help.
having trouble using the attachments here...
uploading this one stupid file took me 3 times longer than downloading the 1.1gb rom
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5rzfbgt3vuv9iia/SMusic.zip?dl=0 here is a zip file to the SMusic.apk file taken from a i9500 lollipop 5.1.1 rom that can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9500-develop/rom-98-5-1-1-based-ale95-v2-t3304828
you need root to put this back into /system/priv-app/
permission will probably be 644 aka rw_ r__ r__ you'll need a root capable file browser to paste it and change the permissions. if pasting doesn't work you might need to mount system first which you can do with the terminal emulator app.
Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
if needed this will let you paste into the system folder. just press enter after each line then use the file browser
reboot afterwards and test. if that doesn't work the mod you tried may have changed some library files.

my bad I forgot that it's not like a zip would be inside.
there are 2 tools you need to open roms on PC and that's something I don't do so I can't remember the name of them.
