[Q] Rotation not working + gyroscope calibration missing - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
i am having problems that i cant use the rotate of the s4 (currently with 4.2.2 dbt)
after a hardreset everything was fine. then i uninstalled some samsung apps which i do not want to have on my device with titanium.
since then the rotate is not working again.
does someone know which of this apps is mandatory in order for the rotation to work.
the suggestion to calibrate doesnt work for me either because this section is missing under my device settings (even after a hardreset).

Your autorotation stop working because you removed Samsunghub and if you have a custom Recovery try and do this mate download and flash this file via recovery.

If you dont have a customer recovery but your phone is rooted . Extract the file to your pc then copy to ur sdcard Then open root explorer >copy/paste the libnustl_shared.so in system>lib and change permission to rw-r-r then reboot. And if you have a cwm then download the file .and copy to ur sdcard and boot into cwm . And flash away

ok.. cwm did not work for me as well.. the file was still missing though installing the zip via CWM.
but anyway.. i finally was able to copy the file manually after having some problems with es file explorer.
after setting the permission and rebooting i was able to use the autorotate function again. .
thank you a lot for helping me out and not letting me start by scratch again. and also not forcing me to install samsung software on my device.
now the only question left... why am i still missing the gyroscope option under the device settings..?!?! :-/
i have never seen this option on my device at all.

[Solved] 4.4.2 Auto rotation problem

After removing some bloatwares in 4.4.2,some users face auto rotation problem. It is because you remove Samsung Hub. Titanium backup removes lib files for unintalling apk.
Solution :
1. extract libgnustl_shared.so from the attachment zip.
2. Copy and paste to System>>lib and change permission to rw-r--r--
3. Reboot and enjoy!
Sorry for bad english.
Strange because I had the issue since moving to official Kitkat. After some research, I found and did what that post says :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50099965&postcount=9
It fixed the issue, but every few days, screen rotation is not functionning. A simple reboot seem to do the trick, but I don't feel like it's normal.
Any further idea ?
Thanks for the information, my rotation is working again. It happened after I removed some system apps, but all is well after restoring the library file.
Can someone please upload the file to this thread please and tell me where I can find the system file?
Removed Samsung hub via Titanium backup and now my Auto Rotate doesn't work.
PLEASE!!!
Thanks
Download the ScreenRotation.zip from the link in the 2nd comment, extract the library file and copy it to /system/lib with permission 644 (EDIT: rw-r--r--).

I would think it should be fine to remove the app using something like Root Explorer.
Worked
Worked fine on S4 I9505 4.2.2.
this never happened on 4.3 neither 4.2
this seems to be some update in Hubs then i assume
But it fixed the issue.
The flashable zip didn't work.
So I put it there manually.
Strange though because I've always deleted samsung hub and auto rotation has been working.

[Q] Trouble with screen auto rotate when rooted, or rooted ROM ?

Hello, I have just wasted about a day of my time on this issue.
Problem:
When I root my S4, running Kitkat, or load custom Kitkat ROM - wanamlite in my case, then the auto rotate screen feature stops working.
The problem is not in the HW - the camera app, which rotates labels on the screen based on orientation - kept working through all the trouble.
Details:
- I decided to root my S4, mainly to be able to install xposed/xprivacy and Titanium Backup
- first, I rooted the stock ROM, using the chainfire method. Worked fine
- I did not install custom recovery at this point
- removed few modules in TB
- noticed that the screen auto rotate stopped working
- restored the removed modules in TB, auto rotate still not working
- installed TWRP and Wanamlite. Screen rotation first worked, but after some time ( and my guess is after few reboots ), screen auto rotate failed again.
I was unable to fix this, so I had to go back to stock ROM ( Swiss FNB9 ), to get the phone working again.
Searching on Google, it seems that few of the Samsung devices have this problem of screen auto-rotation not working after rooting....
Before I try rooting again, is this a known problem ? Any fix with a high degree of reliability ?
Thanks for any info, Paul.

Wow, very much appreciated! This worked perfectly for my S4 with KitKat.
Today I noticed my auto screen rotation stopped. I googled around, tried many work-arounds, but none of them helped. A hard reset didn't work, a soft reset didn't work, Bluetooth/GPS/WiFi off didn't help, calibration using an app didn't work, etc.
I rooted my phone (as I had before, but because of the hard reset I had to root it again), installed Root Explorer, and put the libgnustl_shared.so file in the System/lib folder (while mounted R/W). I rebooted and BAM! Auto screen rotation was back again!

That fixed it indeed !! Thanks man ! I had problems pasting the file into that directory but the "root browser" app from the play store could paste it. Then changed permissions, rebooted and ... back is screen rotation !!! Thanks !! :good:

Hi, Besides hitting the THANKS button, I would like to give following information for other users:
I have PhilzTouch installed and tried to flash the zip file severel times, But everytime after wiping cache part. and dalvik I noticed that nothing changed.
So I did the copy/paste action as described and after rebooting it worked.
Hi All,
I had the same issue when i rooted my device, and lost the rotation and use the method described here to fix the issue.
But after reboot the phone it will keep popping the message " Unfortunately, Samsung Hub has stopped" and it won't go away or let me do anything on the phone, as soon as i hit the OK button it will popup again.
Any possible fix for that, Please !!!
Thank you all.

Can someone help me with this, please... I have no idea what this means.
1) I downloaded the file
2) The instructions say to move the libgnustl_shared.so file into System>>Lib. When I download the file, libgnustl_shared.so is already in a folder called System>Lib...
3) Someone else said to FLASH via recover or something?? What does that mean? Can someone explain this in straightfoward terms? Thank you.
In that case, you should try to replace the existing file with the new one.
You just need to set up the parameters of the file (permissions into rw r r) as explained before. You can do it with ES Explorer for instance.
No need to do something else, just reboot.

changin permission parameters for getting screen rotation
OK, easy, my first question was and has been "how to change the permissions".
And alone, not being an Android Geek, I succeeded !!!
First use Root Explorer, with it copy and paste (or move) the " libgnustl_shared.so" file in the "\system\lib" directory.
Once it's done (always with Root Explorer) apply a finger on this new file, a menu appears and choose "Permissions". Then there, keep only Read on the three lines, and only Write on the first line. Then click on OK.
And reboot your system.
Amazing, it's working, like the first day and before you rooted it...
Thanks again for your solution.
thanks
works great on i9505 kitkat. don't forget to reboot
no permission
im getting this when i try to do it,
"changing permissions was not successful. please note that some file systems do not allow permission changes"
anyone know how to get around this??
cheers

Private Mode Fix After Rooting

Hello Guys
I Rooted My Device Yesterday And Everything Went Good Until I Noticed That The Privet Mode Faild To Open And I Have Many Personal Photos That I Want To Reach
P.s. : Im Using Stock MM Rom, Rooted By CF Root And Im Using Wanam Xposed Framework
So Any Ideas How To Fix This Problem Without Lossing What Inside The Private Mode ?
Thanks In Advance
i resolve u must 1 clear all with twrp (advanced clear)than install firmwere than cf auto root than twrp 3 0 2 2 than last BETA-SuperSU (with twrp) now work all
But Thats Exactly What I Did First When I Rooted My Device, What Will Be Changed If I Just Clear My Device Whenever I Root Again I Will Face The Same Problem
We Need A Solution For After Rooting
Thanks For Your Interest I Appreciate
If you need to recover the files I think the only thing you can do is go to your Nandroid backup, restore, copy the files out of the Private Mode folder and start again.
I Want My Files But Also I Want To Make It Work
I Dont Have Any Back Ups How To Do Recovery ?
Thanks In advance
You need to install a custom firmware on the phone for private mode to work i think. That's the only way i've made it work again.
I have superman kernel on my phone.

This may make Private Mode work again, but I don't think you will be able to access the files that were there before. I had this problem on my old Note 4. I lost my files and learnt a lesson, backup always before doing anything and when changing ROMs make sure you copy your files out of Private Mode first, sorry man
i formatted data in recovery (twrp 3Minit_recovery_3.0.2-2_G935F) and flashed CF-Auto-Root (hero2lte-hero2ltexx-smg935f) + no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip and private mode is working fine on stock rooted (& i also have xposed installed & running so it must be possible to make it work
So Guys There Is No Such A Zip File Make It Work Again Like An Extention Just Install It And Get It work Fine Because Its Annoying To Start Over Again
Is There A Backup App. Exactly Like LG Backup That Backing Up Everything In The Device With Just A Bottom ?
I Am Appreciate For Everyone Of You

None of the WiFi or hotspot not turning on.I get the same problem in my Condor and I searched a lot for the solution.I go for factory reset, full reset, flashing stock, radio etc.... But nothing helped. Some strange solution was to hit the back of the phone, put it in the freezer etc...I tried many other ways and that worked only was putting a file named
WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin
In to the folder / persist....... But it worked me for exactly 1 day and the problem still continued.
So I tried a new method which helped me a lot........
Steps
1.Take a back up of folders /persist and/data/misc/WiFi
2.unzip the below attachment and put the file WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin
To /Persist folder.
3.[important step].use any file manager to give full permission to the file(Use ES file explorer, I used solid explorer that provides more permission, if ES doesn't work use Solid explorer)..
4. Restart the phone
5. Now your WiFi will be back to rock............
If doesn't work try clearing the folder /data/misc/WiFi/wpa supplicant... And /persist....
If any thing goes wrong use back up's......
Don't forget to hit thanks if it worked......and don't blame me if it doesn't worked......
THANK YOU MASTER!
You just saved my life ..... *sighs relief*

Which rom?
Fixed it.
Teamsek, I clean flashed it, that is when the problem triggered, could't go past the welcome screen, tried to look for /persist folder through recovery, no luck. So flashed again with no gapps then i was able to access filemanager, saw the persist folder followed above steps, No luck. Flashing Radio worked.

Thank you!
Was looking for a fix forever until I found your post
Works perfectly
It seems that your method does work , I have the same problem with my LG V10 H961-n and I'm hopeful that I can fix it.
Should I root my phone first?
I also have a condor with the same problem, but I checked in the root directory and in the /persist folder the file " WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin" is already there, and so is the "bt_nv.bin"...How should I make my WiFi and Bluetooth work ,it has been like this for months , appreciate any advice
i cant see any folder and i can't make folder in my phone how can i fix it?..
Thanx a lot bro, it work for my phone Moto G 2013
Self corrected?
After flashing the last ViperOS rom, my phone got the 02:00:00:00:00:00 physical address. The phone was still connecting to wireless lan but I wanted to correct the wrong address. Something weird happened while I was prepairing the phone to follow the recommended steps for correcting the physical address issue: for managing files, root permissions is needed... so when I flashed SuperSU and restarted the phone, the physical address was corrected... I don't know why, I don't know how...
This may help

Hey, I'm unable to copy into the persist folder. Every time it's showing permission denied. I'm using ES File Explorer with root access. Still it's not happening. I've even tried Solid Explorer but could not find the persist folder from that. Please help. I'm using CM 13.0. Any later version isn't supported on my device.
Thank a Lot
I was about to give up, and this was going to be the last forum I read to solve my problem, and I must thank you because it was the only one that worked and helped me.
