Hey everyone,
today I got myself an LG G Pad 8.3 because I liked the hardware. Unfortunately, LG's software ist almost as bloated and ugly Samsung's [citation needed]. After a lot of searching through this forum and elsewhere i finally managed to get this tablet from KOT49I.V50020D (KK 4.4.2) to CM11. As all the other guides are for older versions/builds of the OS and never cover the whole process I'm trying to do a little tutorial here. It was a little harder than rooting my Nexus5, so I don't really recommend this for newbies.
Credits to the respective creators of the software, hacks and methods used in this Tutorial. I didn't do any coding or magic.
As always: No guarantee this will work for you!
I am not responsible for what you do with your tablet, phone or life.
The first thing I did was to root the G pad using IOroot (Credits to autoprime).
1.1. Enable Dev.-Options by clicking the build-number 7 times.
1.2. (while your G Pad is not connected to a PC) enable USB Debugging
1.3. Connect to your PC, You will need the LG Drivers
1.4 Unpack the Zip-File from the thread and open a commandline in the folder
1.5 Check communications using "adb devices"
1.6 "adb reboot recovery" to boot into recovery mode (obviously)
1.7 move to "apply update from adb" using the volume-rocker, select with the power button
1.8 (On your PC again) "adb sideload kk_root.zip"
1.9 The installer will do its thing, you should see "DAT ROOT" when finished
1.10 reboot your system (see 7.)
In the next step, you will install a custom recovery.
Or lets say, you will let a script install a custom recovery for you. (Credits to Drgravy, id10terror and samuraix21)
2.1. download the zip-file from id10terror's thread (his Step3). The download may be slow
2.2. unpack and right-click the *.bat-file -> Edit using an editor of your choice
2.3 change the letter at the end of the build-number according to samuraix21 (second post in his thread), then save
2.4 run the batch-file, the tablet will reboot after this step
2.5 put the newest version of TWRP on you G Pad's internal storage
2.6 repeat 1.5 and 1.6 to get into your new recovery
2.7 immediatly after the screen goes black, pull out the cable (for unknown reasons)
2.8 install -> select the recovery you just moved to the internal storage, swipe to confirm
2.9 wait until finished, go "home", reboot system
That was the hard part. Flashing CM or any customRom is fairly easy
3.1 Download the latest CM-Snapshot from here
3.2 Place that zip-file in the internal storage as you did with the TWRP-file. You can erase that one.
3.3 repeat 2.6 and 2.7
3.4 Wipe -> Swipe to confirm
3.5 Install the CustomROM as you did in 2.8. This might take a little longer.
3.6 see 2.9
3.7 The display might be very dark while booting. You can change later
If everything went right, your tablet now runs a rooted customROM =)
Sorry for this wall of text
I rooted with Towelroot, simply install the app, click to root, install SuperSU from Play store, that's it. Nice n easy. Thanks for the guide.

Just got my refurbished V500 (OTA updated twice to latest stock 4.4.2)... Done rooting & installing TWRP 2.8.0.0 using the same steps as OP stated ... Easy enough.
I had my win7 systems previously prepared for my G2, so not a single issue with drivers.
Decided to stay with Stock LG (same as my G2) ... customed ROMs can stay on my N7s.
(note: remember to allow root-access to ADB, on the tablet. Also allow SuperSU to update its binary thru TWRP).
Thanks.
After step 2.7 my g pad enters stock recovery with the following errors at the bottom:
E:missing bitmap stage_empty
(Code -1)
E:missing bitmap stage_fill
(Code -1)
I got root access, edited the .bat file to V50020d and supposedly flashed ABOOT and Recovery correctly.
Any help would be appreciated!

I stopped at step 2.5 ... I used flashify app to reboot to recovery --> then updated TWRP to 2.8.0.0.
( At step 2.7, you already had TWRP 2.7.x.x)

Yeah, that's the problem.. After step 2.7 I'm supposed to have TWRP, but I dont. It will just enter Stock recovery with those errors on the bottom.
I also tried Flashify to flash TWRP 2.7.1.0, but as soon as I try to enter recovery it just stays at the LG boot screen with the following error: Secure booting Error, Cause: boot certification verify.
I guess I'm out of luck here.

Found a fix (technically). Thanks to @nlmensch for the idea. :highfive:
Basically, I just downgraded to v50010b and installed TWRP from there.
Link for @quangnhut123 thread to make the downgrade:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797190
Link for the .kdz files (I used United Kingdom V10B):
http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=39
After the downgrade, make sure to get root access for 4.2.2 and TWRP for your downgraded firmware.
Hope this helps. :good:
This all looks great, and I'm really thankful for the effort you've put in, but I'm stuck -- I don't know if I'm just being stupid! You said to download latest version of TWRP and put on SD card... but how? v500 isn't officially supported by TWRP, so where are people getting a copy? I looked but couldn't find it. Any help massively appreciated!!
Thanks
[EDIT: I was indeed being stupid. Worked out the relevant TWRP links were in Drgravy's threads. Many thanks )
I had the same problem with installing twrp as the others. To fix it I did a factory reset back to clean stock 4.4.2. After that the guide worked as intended and I was able to install twrp. (There must have been som app or update that interfered with twrp before. I don't know?)
To fix the dim screen when booting cm11 I installed mani.Kernel v19 in twrp after setting up cm.
Using cm I really like all the settings available, the standard navigation buttons and that the bug in stock rom that made youtube videos stutter is gone. Smooth playback. And batterylife seems better. Screen takes 75%.
Big thanks for the guide. I'm glad I followed it. And there's nothing wrong with it because I ran into the same problem with other guides.
Edit: I would recommend installing the Quick Boot app instead of rebooting to recovery using adb and yanking the USB-cable.
The TWRP part didn't work for me either. I ended up flashing a recovery image (TWRP) through flashify and it messed up my recovery and can no longer access it, luckily tablet is still working.
I really hope there are easier ways with errors etc to put a cwm recovery as it driving me nuts.
I didn't think i'd have so much trouble on an android as i have with these lg pads.
Should had stuck to samsung, but the hardware and price was just to be avoided and thus went for these slick gpad's
Mine is on 4.4.2 and rooted, just getting recovery to work is stopping me from having nice new roms

I have a new tutorial to install custom recovery for first time here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-pad-83/orig-development/recovery-t2945917
I installed ADB on my pc, Do i install it on my LG GPAD also?, as it is not mentioned.
How do i use it in accordance to your instructions? as i have never once used this before.
I use root explorer, can this be used in anyway?
Thank you
Best wishes
ADB is only installed on your computer. ADB allows you to open a remote shell on your pc to your tablet using the usb cable to connect them to either. You can use Terminal Emulator in place of ADB. You can also move files and change file permissions with Root Explorer also. You will need a shell to execute some commands and that can be done with ADB shell or a Terminal Emulator shell. Both are ok.
Thank you for this amazing guide!!
Can you help me on step 2?
Installing custom recovery I can't see the option to "Install" I only see Updte from external/adb/cache.
What I did miss?
Thank you!

This means that you may still on stock recovery. Same happened to me, if you want you can follow the steps I provided previously to solve this.
Anyone can please point me to id10terror's twrp thread?
It seems that there are more than one.
I did what exactly is in the first post (although I rooted with towelroot, since ioroot got permission issues), but when I go this step and I expect to see the new "interface" with the install option:
2.8 install -> select the recovery you just moved to the internal storage, swipe to confirm
I just still see the stock recovery.
As a matter of interest, I see the in botton two things:
E:missing bitmap stage_empty
Code -1
E:missing bitmap stage_fill
Code -1
I've 4.4.2 v50020d (just bought it) - any ideas?
If you have ever downgraded your device in order to change aboot and get a working custom recovery, then you can flash this zip in CWM or TWRP to bring your firmware back to 20D.

Actually I have the same issue as winco, I had root before upgrade to ICS.
I used this guide, everything looked fine. I have installed CWM, I have Superuser app, but tablet does not seem to be rooted. Even when I press in CWM. "fix root" it does not help at all.
Does anyone know if there is an easy way to root it without connecting the PC method?
Many thanks

If you have CWM installed, then you need to get the superuser.zip onto the internal sdcard partition. You can download it using the tablet's browser, then use an file manager application to copy the downloaded zip into /sdcard.
Then boot into recovery and install it with "install zip from sdcard".

root twrp not working
I'm a newbee with android so please appologize for stupid remakrs or questions.
I wanted to root my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with android 4.04 (Icecream I think) because I can't use my WD-elements external 2TB disk, not even with an external power supply. The disk is not recognized by the tablet, I only get a message 'High power device connected".
After some googling I saw that the S3C driver is missing. It seems that the tablet has to be rooted to be able to innstall such a driver.
I followed instructions from this thread, used Odin en then tried to reset my gt_p7500 by pressing start and volume down and then volume up.
The TWRP windows shows up but the screen is running like hell. So I cannot reach twrp to backup my old image and install the new image.
So my tablet is still not rooted.
Pleas advise me what to do.
Working method for me

I'm new to this too. Will try to help as much as I can since I've been able to successfully flash new ROM, TWRP etc., The process is as follows:
1. I found that the only TWRP recovery + ODIN combo that worked for me was the one packaged in this thread. Booted my tab into Download mode -> flashed TWRP with the ODIN (both from the package in the mentioned thread) -> Rebooted into recovery TWRP.
1a. From TWRP -> Wipe -> Cache, Dalvik Cache, Data.
2. Did 'adb push <rom_image.zip> /sdcard' (without quotes. need to have Android SDK installed in your PC with version 1.0.29 or above. Reason for version is to have 'sideload' functionality which I'll show how to use later).
3. Did 'adb push <gapps.zip> /sdcard' (same notes as in above bullet).
4. Selected "Install" option in TWRP -> Selected rom_image.zip from /sdcard location -> swiped to flash/installed the ROM (I used this ROM and find it to be the best so far and suits my liking).
5. Installed gapps in the same process as above for ROM.
6. Rebooted system.
Additionally, you could download TWRP flashable .zip file of TWRP 2.6.3.0 in order to get 'adb sideload' functionality. I found this to be a savior for me many a time.

How to root Lenovo TAB A7-40 A3500-FL?
[Solved] See the guide below!
Device info:
Model number: Lenovo A3500-FL
Android version: 4.4.2
Kernel version: 3.4.67
Build number: A3500FL_A442_01_25_140823_SE
BB Chip: MT6582
MS Board. A3500FL
Bar code: this was my device's serial number
SW Ver.: ALPS.KK1.MP1.V2.10
Custom Build Verno.: 1408775889
Managed to get cwm and root with this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...vo-a3500-h-t2879208/post55491817#post55491817
Modified the guide for Lenovo A3500-FL!
EDIT: Also some users have reported that this guide doesn't do the trick or is out-dated, so copypasted the guide from this post here.
Guide
1. Download attachment cwmRecovery.zip and download latest Flash_tool (version 5.1352.0) can be downloaded from here)
1.1. Enable USB-debugging. (How to do this)
2. Manually install the drivers from the attachment a7_40_drivers.zip for the LenovoTablet before plugin it to computer (win7 dirvers work for win8 too).
2.1. To install unsigned/uncertified drivers on Windows 7: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/3914-windows-7-how-to-install-unsigned-drivers
2.2. To install unsigned/uncertified drivers on Windows 8: http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how...8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/
2.3. After you have disabled the driver signature verification, you can install the drivers like this: Right click My computer, Manage, Device Manager, right click your computer at the top, Add Legacy hardware, next, Install plapla manually, next, Show all Devices, Have a Disk.., Browse to the driver folder where you unzip them, choose example windows7 and the 64 version (win7 drivers work for win8.x too), install every device. Then follow the guide.
(Note: Otherwise Windows only installs the normal automatic drivers and its more difficult to install the other drivers.)
2.4. Plug your device to PC.
3. Download the latest supersu zip file (version 2.46) from attachments or from https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/
3.1. Move the zip.-file to the Sdcard.
4. Turn off your device.
5. Unpack cwmRecovery.zip
6. Run Flash_tool.exe with Admin Rights.
7. Chose Scatter-Loading and choose MT6582_Android_scatter.txt (in Recovery folder).
7.1. Now you will see checekd only one checkbox - recovery, if not click on it and choose recovery.img
7.2. Press Download.
7.3. Connect your device.
7.4. Wait few seconds.
8. Have CWM on your device .
9. Unplug your device.
10. . Boot to cmw recovery by turning off your device. Then press and hold VOL DOWN + VOL UP and then also press and hold POWER for about 7 seconds.
10.1. Choose " Install zip from sdcard." (To confrim always use the Power Button)
10.2. Choose "zip from sdcard".
10.3. Select SuperSU-v2.46.zip from sdcard and apply.
10.4. Have a rooted tablet.
It might be necessary to always flash the CWM with the Flashtool directly before you startup the device. Otherwise it will start the original AndroidRecovery again.
It might also be necessary to use different drivers from here.
If the supersu zip doesn't install, try toggling the signature verification to disabled from cwm->install zip from sdcard->toggle signature verification.
Tested and working on Levono A7-40 3500-FL with kitkat update, build number A3500FL_A442_01_25_140823_SE, from ota. Attached screenshot for proof. Also other people have reported that this works for later updates too, for example A3500FL_A442_01_27_141127_SE.
You can update to the latest OTA firmware by first going back to stock recovery. See the second post for the guide.
Thanks and credits go to: @Koli96 and @bobais
How to go back to stock rom/recovery and update to latest Lenovo OTA firmware update
So, it's pretty simple, you take the stock_recovery.zip from the first post, extract it, and replace recovery.img in the recovery folder with the stock one.
Then :
Quote:
4. Turn off your device.
6. Run Flash_tool.exe with Admin Rights
7. Chose Scatter-Loading and choose MT6582_Android_scatter.txt (in Recovery folder)
7.1. Now you will see checekd only one checkbox - recovery, if not click on it and choose recovery.img
7.2.. Press Download
7.3. Connect your device
7.4. Wait few seconds.
And that's it !
On a side note, if it seems stuck on a black screen with a loading circle after factory reset, you have to put the tablet in landscape mode and restart (the shutdown menu appears without any problem) - this issue doesn't seem related to recovery, but a bug within lenovo firmware and the first configuration screen.
Side note 2: The first boot after flashing new update might take 15mins.
Side note 3: After updating to the latest OTA you can go back to cwm recovery with the guide from the first post.

Well it charges long and the charge stays long, so no issue here.
Seems that not that many lenovos root easily, but of course this is a pretty new device(?).

Installed everything and tried vroot once again (I have tried it before).
Still not rooted. And btw that vroot at least tries to install bunch of bloatware crap on the pc.
Edit:
I would suggest for anyone who installed Vroot to your pc to scan the whole pc after you uninstall the vroot.
Here are the scanning tools:
Malwarebytes
adwcleaner
superantispyware
hitmanpro

I got a successful root by flashing Recovery.rar from lenovo-forums.ru, (it's easy to google, I'm not allowed to post links) with the included SPFlash Tool and afterwards flashing the needed SU binaryies and apk. However, this will mess up the OTA updates, and I can't find the stock recovery again.
Therefore, I really beg anyone having the stock recovery to post it, enabling us to switch between them, whenever we want to apply any OTAs.
Thanks a lot!

Well I very highly doubt that there will be any more updates for a device with this price range. And since the next android version is the L version, which requires more work than before.

Yes indeed, that's what I'm trying to do. Rooting the A3500-FL. According to the instructions you need to install the SuperSU from a zip on your SD card. When I try do that it gets interrupted every time. Installing recovery went well. So I'm not getting what I do wrong? Any ideas?

Then it starts installation, but aborts it in a few seconds. So am I booting to just a normal recovery mode and not CWM? (Sorry if all this seems totally ignorant, I have only flashed roms before, never rooted a new device)

Yup.. This is the problem. The recovery runs fine from Flash Tool and claims it installs it. (Download ok) But I still don't seem to have CWM on the device. It's just normal recovery mode. So any ideas about the CWM-installation? What could possibly go wrong? I get no error messages. Cheers.

Hey,
I propose a tutorial to root Wileyfox Storm with lastest SuperSu Binary, but you can flash zips too ^^
Wileyfox storm's stock recovery has a signature verification, so you can't flash SuperSu 2.46, but with long work i got custom cyanogen recovery with no signature verification ;D
## Tutorial
Step 1 : Unlock bootloader !!!! It will erase All Data So backup first !!!!
- Go to settings>about phone and tap a few times on build number to unlock dev options
- Go to Dev options and check OEM Unlock and reboot bootloader (volume +)
- Type "fastboot devices" and if it appear type "fastboot oem unlock" and press y
Step 2 : Flash Custom Recovery
- Reboot Bootloader
- type "fastboot devices" if it appear type "fastboot flash recovery C:\..\kipper-custom-recovery.img"
- Wait the flash process and reboot recovery (volume -)
- Now Flash SuperSu-2.46.zip
Step 3 : Enjoy !!
## Download
Super Su : SuperSu-v2.46_signed.zip
Custom Recovery : kipper-custom-recovery.img
Corrected link to recovery?
Hi,
The custom recovery link is to the supersu file as well. Can you post the corrected link?
Thanks
Sorry xD
Thanks, I haven't had time to try compiling the Cyanogen Recovery for the Storm myself yet.
The above recovery image worked for me using fastboot boot xxx thus leaving the stock recovery intact.
F:\downloads\kipper>fastboot boot kipper-custom-recovery.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 0.674s]
booting...
OKAY [ 3.082s]
finished. total time: 3.758s
Wileyfox Storm (Kipper) - 12.1-YOG4PAS3MG
SuperSu and Busybox successfully installed.
Thanks.
No prob i'm happy, i've done it myself ^^
Phone wont boot pasted the Cyanogen logo
Thanks for taking the time and effort to share this. It's really appreciated.
However, I'm a bit stuck.....

I got as far as flashing the recovery. One it said it was finished I didn't know how to reboot the Bootloader so I rebooted the phone. On booting the android graphic came up and said 'Erase' or 'Erasing'. It then went to the Cyanogen logo and won't proceed any further.
So, presumably its important to get the su flashed onto the device. However, I dont know how to do this. I have the su.zip on my c: drive... How do I flash it onto my storm device?
P.s. is the failure to boot down to SU or has something borked???
Thanks in advance!

The first boot after wiping takes a few minutes so do be sure that you are waiting long enough, otherwise sounds like something borked.
Are you able to boot back to recovery by holding volume down while powering up?
If so you should try clearing cache and wiping.
You can also try restoring to stock CyanogenOS images : https://cyngn.com/support
If just installing the stock recovery the image can be extracted from the fastboot zip.
There is now also a CyanogenMod nightly build, you can try flashing the recovery from there instead (there is also the nightly Cyanogen build if you are feeling brave): https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=kipper
There is a separate download for the recovery image.
Flashing su is not required to boot after flashing the custom recovery.
However to flash it, first copy the SuperSu zip onto the phone (for simplicity use the main memory not the SD card), either download directly onto phone, copy from computer when connected as a usb device or transfer using adb. From the custom recovery you can then select Apply Update and browse to the SuperSu zip file.

Yes, i followed all the instructions. I even tried doing it with the 'fastboot boot' method. But still no luck.
In the end I did a factory reset from the recovery and rebooted. I'm now able to get into android normally.
However, if i go back to recovery and try to flash the su binaries, it fails with the output sayings something about the signature of the package.
Any ideas?

If you are getting messages about the signature then you are probably running the stock recovery again,
Go back to the bootloader and use fastboot to boot or flash the customer recovery above or cyanogen recovery again.
You can also grab an unsigned version of SuperSu from the developer : https://download.chainfire.eu/696/supersu/

Are there any pros/cons of using the unsigned version over the signed one? If not, is it not better to use the unsigned version and not bother with the flashing of the recovery?
Thanks
Maybe i'll try later to port philz to this phone ^^
Is it possible to relock the bootloader again?
I've successfully managed to install the custom Cyanogen recovery, and CyanogenMod on my WF Storm this afternoon. I largely did this by following the instructions posted previously - unlocking bootloader, installing CM recovery image with fastboot, then installing CM12.1-kipper from recovery.
I did encounter some problems - namely that the nightly version of the CM recovery (cm-12.1-20151120-NIGHTLY-kipper-recovery.img ) just did not seem to work, despite reportedly being installed OK - Whenever I tried to install anything in recovery mode, it came up with "failed to verify whole-file signature" or similar errors. Strangely I was able to overcome this by using fastboot to boot from the image of it downloaded to my PC, and installing the CM ROM that way; initially it came up with an error about filesystems being incompatible, but after erasing all data, it seemed to go on OK.
I installed the openGAPPS aroma version (allows you to choose which GApps to install interactively) and used the ARM-64 version. Initially, I had the problem with the recovery and couldn't install it, so finally decided to install the cyanogen recovery linked to above in one of the first posts (kipper-custom-recovery.img) rather than from the nightlys. This seemed to solve the problem, about signature errors and I tried to install GApps. The first time I tried this (after going through and selecting what to install from the huge list), it seemed to start OK then said there was not enough space on the device - which seemed very odd indeed. I rebooted and tried again, this time with a few less GApps selected, and it seemed to work fine. I think it was just some kind of a glitch the first time, because there is plenty of space left.
During the first boot after installing the GApps, the systemUI crashed, the screen went black and it was not looking good. Following another reboot though, it seemed to be OK, and I am very happily now using the Storm with CyanogenMOD and root access. I've now installed the dozens of extra apps I use, from the play store, and so far, everything is working well.
Of course, I haven't checked evreything yet, but the camera, phone, 4G LTE, tethering, google account etc. all seem to be working very well.
I hope this info might be of help to anyone looking to get CM12.1 going on their WFStorm. If you get signature errors, just make sure you try installing a different CM recovery!
A huge thanks to earlier posters, and everyone who's worked on getting a version of CM for the Storm. Peace-out,
Neon

Wich open gapps you need ? mini, micro, full ?
Hi,
I used the aroma version of GApps, which has the interactive graphical installer so you can choose whichever apps you want. I am sure Nano and Pico etc. are all fine, I just wanted to install a lot of GApps.
I downloaded from here: http://opengapps.org/?api=5.1&variant=nano
It is set to nano by default but I chose aroma. Make sure you select the correct architecture (ARM64) and android 5.1 (if you are using kipper).
Best of luck,
Nsam

Hei it has been the second day running nightly built of CM12.1, and so far its been great never had serious issues. I just noticed that the proximity sensor distance when call is engage is set to very near like 1cm. If the phone goes further the screen lights on and gets activated.
Nightly most of time runs well, apart from "Not Responding" whatsapp every once in a while. Battery life is average almost the same stock CM. Call gets cut/muted at the middle of the conversation, not sure if the network or the phone has it. Hopefully there will be a TWRP soon for the device as NANDroid backup is very important when using nightly. Thanks for all the devs.

Do you think it's easier/possible to adapt a ROM from a similar device like say, the Alcatel
Pop 2 (5) Premium ? I don't know if there's any ROM for that phone tho, but since it's branded as Alcatel you might get more support from the community here than by using Vodafone's name.
Hello, Demonlord6.
I have tried to make a stock flashable ROM via dumping the system folder and the boot.img file, but without success.
It does not boot properly.. when I tried to flash it without dalvik/system wipe everything was as before.
When I tried to wipe /system and dalvik first and then flash the ROM, it causes bootloop.
So now I'm trying to fix this issue..
I don't know where the problem is.
So when this issue will be solved I will try to build a ROM from Alcatel phones with same specs.

Hey, Andreno306
I don't know much about Rom's in that level of expertise I'm afraid :/ but I did some digging and came across this simple tutorial on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387941
I imagine it does not work for every single device out there, at least not with modifying stuff after, but it might be a good starting point I think, in fact I would try to actually make one myself had I a working PC currently at home. But even if I did I had no way of testing it because this is currently my daily driver phone.
Just wanted to say that I'm also very interested in getting a slim ROM for this device. I can't offer any expertise I'm afraid! Just wanted to show that there are people interested in your project.

I have one

But I recommend to restore it with the flashify app, because that's how the backup was made.
If, for some reason, you don't/can't restore it, then you can always try Sugar on the PC which basically restores everything to factory settings (recovery, kernel, etc, it all gets reset)

Sorry for the stupid question but... does it works on Smart Prime 7 too?
Has anyone installed that linked ROM? It seems to be what we are looking for... a slim debloated rom.
I presume we need to be rooted, install this TWRP, then flash that ROM?
It mentions unlocking the bootloader, I dont think I've seen any info anywhere about unlocking the bootloader.
Can anyone give a quick lowdown on all the steps required to install that ROM please?
Hi everyone, I discovered that Elephone Trunk and Smart Prime 6 have (almost) identical specs: https://www.devicespecifications.com...ison/c584481c6
So it would be great to "port" (or build ?) the official Nougat-OmniROM for Trunk to VF-895N: http://dl.omnirom.org/trunk/
Last but not least, here's official Vodafone Smart Prime 6 sources: Vodafone_Smart_prime_6_20150413.tar.xz
TWRP for vodafone smart max 4 990N (coolpad 8890u).
I tried this recovery image for vodafone smart max 4 990N (coolpad 8890u).
The phone is in a bootloop state. I think i have usb debugging enabled already.
So, in fastboot mode i can see the device in my pc in adb fastboot cmd.
Im trying to ''fastboot boot recovery.img" but it stops in ''booting..''.
Dont know whats the problem but for sure i can not find a specific twrp image for this device.
If i enter fastboot oem device-info it says ''(bootloader) Device unlocked: true''.
Any ideas ?
hi i was wondering if you could share how you did this or if you can make one for the Vodafone smart n9 (VFD720) it would help a lot of people out looking for this
Needed to root a Vodafone Smart Prime 6 (VF 895N) (got it from a friend because it became unresponsive from all the updated google play stuff ) to get linux-deploy running. Just wanted to leave a big thank you here for Adreno306 for his TRWP 3.0.0-0. it did the job very well!
Only the procedure to get it installed differed quite a bit for me, since Flashify is no longer available.
I wanted to preserve boot and just flash trwp to recover, what worked quite well.
The first thing I did was to boot the phone manually in recovery mode (Power+Vol up) and reset it to factory settings from there. It takes a little while. Then follow the setup, go to phone settings, enable developer mode and set usb debugging. If "unlock oem" is not available there, reboot into recovery again, set unlock there and reboot into bootloader.
The prerequisites are adb and fastboot, both must work. Means adb devices and fastboot devices must show the phone. What can make problems under win10 as it sometimes does not detect the phone in bootloader mode. An actual google usb driver is needed, as provided by google.
For me adb worked well, but when rebooted into bootloader with adb reboot bootloader, fastboot didnt detect the phone. With the phone still connected, the windows device manager showed an unknown device with and exclamation mark (!). Right click, install driver, select driver manually, select driver from device list, mark all devices (first entry) and click "disk", then point to the usb driver director and select "ADB fastboot driver". ( A more comprehensive description is available here )
Once adb and fastboot detect the device, it is time to prepare it. Boot to system (normal operation) first. Make sure that the TRWP 3.0.0-0.img is renamed to trwp.img and then
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot boot trwp.img
Now the phone should show the trwp menu, set it up to root the phone and install SuperSU. Reboot into bootloader and
fastboot flash recovery trwp.img
fastboot reboot
Verify with adb reboot recovery, you should see trwp now. Reboot to system.
Now finally go into the app selector, start SuperSU, and root the phone. SuperSu uses trwp recovery mode to install its image and root is done.
Again, big thanks for providing the TRWP image!

Hi, I would like to try your tutorial but I can't root this phone (which is an important step in the tutorial), is there any way someone could help me??
Thanks
I had been struggeling myself alot with this but after looking everywhere I collected pieces of information all over XDA and fixed it.
Since all the information is scatterd around everywhere I thought it would be good to make a complete piece here.
I have only tested this with the device: (Honor 8 FRD-L09)
If anyone got this working on other devices please leave a comment so I can add it to this list for other people to see.
So here it goes:
1- First you need to be have an unlocked bootloader.
2- Flash via fastboot the new TWRP with decryption support Here
3- Download two files:
a- update.zip Link (1.5G)
b- update_data_full_hw_eu.zip Link(1.05G)
4- Flash these two files using TWRP (a then b)
5- Reflash TWRP (using fastboot)
Finally, to root, you need to flash this patched prerooted boot.img B378 root boot image (from SD card): Link(15.8MB)
You can do this with OldDroids TWRP or with surdu_petrus TWRP: Link(36.2MB) and Link(24,2MB)
1- Flash OldDroids or surdu_petrus TWRP
2- Select "Install" -> Click "Images" -> Go to External SD and select your rooted_b378_boot.img
3- When it asks where to install click boot.
4- Then reboot and install phh's superuser from the playstore (its the only superuser that works for now)
5- Install JRummy's Busybox Installer and install to /vendor/xbin
Done!
Note: To get AdAway working, go to Preferences, then scroll down to "Target hosts file" and set it to "custom target". Then set Custom target to "/vendor/etc/hosts"
If you have any questions feel free to send me a message I had much trouble with it too.

I had been struggeling myself alot with this but after looking everywhere I collected pieces of information all over XDA and fixed it.
Since all the information is scatterd around everywhere I thought it would be good to make a complete piece here.
You can do this only with OldDroids TWRP: Link(36.2MB)
1- Flash OldDroids TWRP
2- Select "Install" -> Click "Images" -> Go to External SD and select your rooted_b378_boot.img
3- When it asks where to install click boot.

I have only tested it on the FRD-L09
I can't say for sure if it works on the others, I'm sorry.
If you got this working on a different device please let me know.
Quick Question: I have installed normal TWRP 3.1.0.0, every time i want to install the newest SuperSu Beta, it resets TWRP completely. Is your guide also going to work for me, or do i have another problem?

Yes SuperSU doesn't work as far as I know you need Phh Superuser.
But if you already have nougat 7.0 B380 you can just begin at the boot.img installing step and it should work for you too.
Good luck!
Ok, but you linked "twrp-3.1.0.0-eva", i've installed "twrp-3.1.0.0-frp" - do you know, where the difference is?
Edit:
Well, something has gone wrong. Doesn't boot...stays on that screen forever...i tried restoring the backup i took while the system was read only with TWRP

The difference is that the TWRP that I linked can flash .img 's
wich you need to flash the boot.img
Try to get back in TWRP and start at step 1 just do the whole guide then your phone should boot again

The "twrp-3.1.0.0-eva" is for the Huawei P9, the "twrp-3.1.0.0-frD" is for the Honor 8.
And first boot after TWRP install can take longer that usual:
Q: Why does booting take so long?
A: Because of the decryption process which need to finish
its work before twrp tries to access /data partition.

Try flashing the pre-rooted boot.img via fastboot command line.
Worked for me.
Code:
Copy the pre-rooted boot.img to the adb/fastboot directory
(have usb debugging enabled etc etc, connect phone to computer)
Start a cmd box
adb reboot fastboot
fastboot flash boot rooted_b378_boot.img
reboot device.

I can boot into TWRP no Problem, as i said, i restored the backed up image (somehow after a factory reset, the stock apps as well as the keyboard was gone, i could not type in my wifi password) in TWRP, but it sat for about 10 Minutes on that screen when i turned the phone off.
I do not have very good Broadband, so i will start at the first step, installing the update files, linked in the first post.

You are right it is for P9 but it worked for me regardless though :fingers-crossed:

Yeah.. A FactoryReset seems to be a big "no no" after flashting TWRP as it will delete the keyboard and other stuff.
I was in that situation and restored a TWRP backup which got me back to booting into android, but somehow the Camera and LED (flashlight) didn't work.
Restoring an older and a complete backup did not help. Flashing the Update files did not help.
Eventually I ended up following the Honor 8 Rollback steps; going from Emui 5 (android 7) back to Emui 4.1 (android 6).
That also means the Bootloader is locked again, so you'll have to re-unlock it again (if you still have the code, you can use it again).
My steps after the Rollback:
- OTA updated back to Emui 5,
- Factory reset (BEFORE installing TWRP) and reboot.
- Enabled USB debugging,
- Unlock bootloader,
- Flashed TWRP and immediately after that I booted into recovery and rebooted,
- Rebooted to Fastboot (via adb reboot bootloader),
- Fastboot flashed that pre-rooted b378 boot.img and rebooted,
- Installed Phh's root.

I had the same as you describe here but I fixed it by flashing the 2 files I posted up here (a and b)
After doing it step by step as described in the first post, it worked I also flashed the P9 TWRP, just to make sure. It works! But i already miss Resurrection Remix from my Mi4c...
However, does this mean TWRP Backups are useless? :/

I'm glad to hear it works! :highfive:
TWRP backups never worked for me I always just flash it clean and then have titanium backup do the rest
Have a nice day
Hi,
maybe what I am going to ask sounds silly but as I am a kind of newbie hope you will forgive me
Why do we have to install a prerooted 378 image instead of a prerooted 380 Image. Aren't we on 380?
Where does this 378 image come from? Until now I only saw Nougat's 360 & 380 Roms.
I am already on 380 but my root doesn't seem to work properly so I wanted to give a try to thierrybla's OP's post but I don't know if to follow his instructions by using OldDroids TWRP to install his suggested prerooted 378 Image or instead by using OldDroids TWRP to install the other thread's Prerooted 380 img.
What shall I do if I'm already on 380 but would like to try thierrybla's procudure so see if I finally get a well-rooted 380 rom?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hey,
Your question is not stupid I can see why you are confused but everytime I tried to root or preroot something it didn't work for me I also run 380 and once I tried the prerooted 378 made by atariii it worked so there is no reason te be skeptical because I was in the same situation as you and this worked for me just give it a try you won't be disappointed
Thanks for your quick answer!!!
Ok, so I understand it is safe to install prerooted 378 image while being on nougat's 380. Thanks, I will try it right now!

Tell me how it went !
Goodluck!
Hey thierrybla, it worked beautifully! Thanks!
The only thing I did different is too install the prerooted image with Fastboot instead of the Oldroid Twrp.
I was afraid of messing my good working TWRP setup and decided to try what N01tra user suggested.
It worked like a charm! Thanks again!
