[Q] About Official update after rooting - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, so the question is this: Can I get Official updates after rooting?
in more words:
I actually like the official rom after installing a different launcher and after hearing it'll probablly get android L and the G3 skin I wanna keep it... but the thing is I'd like to tweak it a bit... so... If I root and get Xposed and G2 Tweakbox will I still be able to get the Official Update If I don't do anything else besides rooting?
Thanks.

Rooting a G2 with the LP firmware still possible.

I love my G2 so much because of the current ROM i am using and for what I use my phone for, I really don't need anything better. The problem is I fool with it so much I am concerned about it wearing out or breaking so I want to buy a backup G2 in case something happens. I imagine a new or used one would problably come with the latest firmware (5.01 or 5.1.1) and I am concerned about being able to root it. It's been so long since I rooted my phone (I think I used ioroot originally) and I haven't kept up with newer root methods so I don't know if they work with the latest firmware or has Verizon closed that door.
Is there still a way to root a G2 VS980 if it comes preinstalled with the latest lollipop updates from Verizon?
I searched through the forums but can't seem to find a definitive answer. Thanks for any advice...
Yes. Please search on LG One Click root. I have rooted my phone LG G2 F320k variant on 5.0.2
Thanks for that info. I saw the OneClick thread, but I was concerned about something they said on the first page about not working on 5.1.1. I didn't read through the whole thread so maybe that problem was resolved and the original post was never updated.

Looking for original Android 5.0 stock calculator, not Samsung version

Does anyone have the stock Android 5.0 calculator from a real android phone like a Nexus? I can't stand Samsung yet am stuck with this phone as it is a work phone so I'm trying everything I can to remove the Samsung-ness from it. So far I've gotten things like the launcher, calender, clock, keyboard, mail, and plenty of other things disabled and replaced with Google versions however I've only been able to find the stock calculator from 5.1 and it won't install. So I'm hoping an Android 5.0 version will work.
Why not just flash a custom non-TouchWiz ROM like CM13?

Is that possible? I was under the impression from other research that I couldn't do that as it's a Verizon phone and has the very most recent OTA update. Heck if I could just root it I'd be happy, that way I can get rid of the volume limit and stop the home button from turning the screen on. I did try one root method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370) but it just put me in a bootloop so I undid everything and gave up for now.
Ah if you've already updated to Lollipop, you're stuck I'm afraid, Bootloader is locked, if you'd stuck with KitKat, you could have rooted etc
I did read that the verizon bootloader had been unlocked, but that was a while back, and never heard anything else since
Verizon unlocked

LG Leon H340n root, revcovery and custom roms?

Hi all...
Just a quick question, I am sure someone will answer quickly and comprehensively. I have already used the search function on the forums and google but have not found a sure answer either way...
I have an LG Leon H340n the 4G LTE version. Originally a Vodafone UK Handset, unlocked with a code from ebay (not sure this info is relevant but I will put as much info on here as i can!)
Throughout use I have noticed its slowing down a LOT, so I thought id hunt down Cyanogen Rom or something else custom and speedy.
I am unable to find any roms that appear to be suitable for my handset (All are for different versions of the Leon, NOT H340n) and I am sure I can root it but am unsure as to which method of obtaining root would be the best?
Finally I would eventually need a Custom Recovery if I intended to install a Custom ROM (If one even exists!) so can someone recommend a good working version of CWM or TWRP or similar.
Thanks in advance!
WE NEED CUSTOM ROMS FOR THIS PHONE! (LG H340n 4G ).
ANY CUSTOM ROM MAKER, ANDROID PROGRAMMER, PLEASE HELP US!
WE HATE LG STOCK ROM, LIKE A HELL!
If you have rooted the phone, you cannot update to V20 (marshmallow). And if you updated to V20, you cannot root any more.
Check in Roms, Kernels, etc
there should be some usable ROM for your phone. It's in Lg Leon Android Development. Try to search there. and if you don't understand what I am talking about, then here is the link

Hey guys!
I'm getting my LG G6 tomorrow (H873).
Normally, I install TWRP right away when I get a new phone and flash a custom rom, but I would like to try the LG rom (Always had a samsung before, right now Galaxy S5).
I don't think it's possible but, is there some kind of firewall I can use without rooting?
If not, can I keep the original rom after I installed TWRP and flashed Magisk?
I think I won't be able to receive OTA updates after, but from what I heard, LG do only major version update (so android 8.0 next)
What do you think?
I'm mainly afraid of unlocking the bootloader and getting a lemon...
Thanks for your thoughts!
On your H873?
Let me know if you manage to root it.

You won't be unlocking the bootloader on our H873 devices anytime soon.
We don't have official LG support so until someone cracks the bootloader we will not have root.

Rooting S8

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, first time here So I'm thinking of rooting my S8, following this video https:/ /youtu.be/ZD-5twDm6XI but I'm wandering if I'll still get updates from Samsung so long as I use the stock os, I don't mind if they break the root and I have to redo it, but I don't want it to soft brick my device... Is this a good idea? Should I root my S8? And Maybe once official updates stop coming out for the s8 I'll flash a custom rom onto it. Thanks
You will not get updates on a Rooted phone.
Besides this phone won't get anymore big updates. Just small security patches.
You will need to be rooted to get a custom Android 10 Rom in the future. Samsung will not provide one.
