I just do not know exactly what i need to try next to download. The main reason that i want to root is to use Wi-Fi Tether. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have exhausted the search button so now I feel it's time to ask. it sucks bein stupid..

You've tried using CF Root discussed in this thread you referenced?:

CF Root will trip the Knox warranty flag if you care about that.

Assuming its the MDL update, its fine to install. Then go the Sprint Original Android Dev Forum and find CF's Auto Root thread. Its pretty simple, you just have to get familiar with Odin.
As a former HTC user myself I'll say dont let it intimidate you, rooting using CF's Auto Root is a cinch. Theres a how-to video as well that will walk you through step-by-step.

Don't forget to throw a thanks (and a donation if you can) to Chainfire for his dev work, and to the OP of the how-to vids.

If you are moving from MDL to MF9 update, do this before you use Chainfire. Chainfire works great with MF9, but you have to manually load MF9 and do a bunch of extra steps if you use CF first. Also, the HotSpot mentioned in the CF Auto Root thread doesn't work with MDL and will brick your phone. If this occurs, don't stress there is a QBKing77 Youtube video that tells you how to unroot and reverse it all and start over, including resetting the recovery software from TWRP back to stock. After unrooting did Sprint's OTA update to MDL, followed by OTA update to MF9, then re-install of TWRP, then free HotSpot, with no problems. Really dude. Please take some time to search through this forum, read the stickies and how to's, the general postings, Q&A postings and the development postings AND follow-ups.
Rooting is really simple with this phone; so is adding a custom recovery and kernel too. [in begins with CF]
Seems this question gets asked daily.
However if you are spoon fed you will get the benefit and pleasure of actually learning for yourself.
A great video to start with is right here.

As above post. Questions are ask in Q&A. Also depending what firmware you are in. MDC,MDL,MF9 each has a different way to root. Just takes to search. We arent bashing on you for asking this its just that A LOT of people call themselves noobs and keep asking the same question over and over and over again over time.

Root question

Before any of the members who feel the need to an A-hole yes..... I used the search..... I looked around and couldn't find the answer to my question.
I got my phone out of the box with MJ7 update. I want to root but I can't find a method. Is there one out there for this update yet? I see some people who gave rooted and some who have soft bricked. I dont trust kingo or the other method because everything I've read so far its malicious.
Thanks for the help......

No Sticky tutorial for rooting on the current firmware?

just thought would be a good idea for someone with the vast knowledge on rooting and the different options
all there is
[Video Guide] How To Root Galaxy S4 I337 / I337m Easy & User Friendly [ 1 2 3 ... Last ] which just shows motochoper and is super old
im wondering if there is a root that wont trip knox an updated rooting sticky would be usefull to alot i believe
from what iv read so far was u can still us
cf autoroot but that will trip knox
iv been searching threw some other topics as once again no current stickies
anyways whats up with this method KINGO
this is a " " from someone else but not sure what to make of it is this a NEW safe method to root a mk6 bell s4 without tripping knox??
Kingo, against xda policy. Google kingo root, you'll find it. Cancel the knox pop up during root. After reboot, update supersu binaries, via normal method, and choose not to let supersu disable knox. Install titanium backup, freeze all knox processes using guides found here. Busybox, etc all works. If u install custom recovery, youll trip knox. Right now, just root is safe. Not responding to more root stuff, use the help forum for that, this thread is for stock fw. Lets not hijack it
anyways long story short a few updates stickys on rooting current firmware and the good and the bad would help
id post them myself but im only 3 months into android so just learning
thanks

The reason no stickies have been made/updated is probably because there are no confirmed safe methods. Kingo claims to have removed malicious code but it is still banned from XDA. There is a safe root available in the Verizon section that I believe works: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758
The reason this hasn't been linked here is probably because it's new and few people check both sections for development progress. Also, I'm not sure if it's confirmed for us either.

It's been linked multiple times, just a matter of time before the root guides get updated.
Wait a a few days, and it'll happen.

I meant linked in the actual guides, but yeah, I'm sure it will.

what other issue does xda have with kingo that they are yet to address..??

There were a few concerns between VROOT and Kingo, both connecting to a Chinese server, and the sending of IMEI's and other phone information along with pulling some binaries and the suspicious superuser app from VROOT. Another reason is that despite saying they are safe and have been fixed, they are both closed source and the devs will not reveal their methods. So basically it's all been shady business and XDA has left it up to users to decide if they want to take the risk and not endorse the program at all themselves.
okay i see
and i dont blame them for not wanting to reveal there methods as there is obviously some sort of money in doing this for them
and if they opened it up to xda devs then anybody can make another root process and kingo would loose all the traffic on there site
wondering why no xda devs can figure out root process when china can
guess shina smarter again lol
anyways thanks for all the info and help

[Q] Root and VERY NOOB questions!

Hi there,
I would just like to ask as i'm a complete NOOB. i currently am on baseband N9005XXUFNF2 and build N9005XXUFNF4 EVERYTHING is stock. i would like to root this and then decide what to do later. i saw http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...oot-root-xxufnf4-stock-firmware-knox-t2840150 thread and was a little confused as i was happy with method but confused about the later on updates on several replies posted. so this is what i am going to do please correct me if i am wrong in any way- get towelroot, go to download mode and use ND3 and put it in AP then tick the box and start, once it is done root the phone using towel root, then get NF4 and put it in AP and start. now my phone will be rooted WITH KNOX 0x0???
Here are VERY NOOB questions, sorry, now if i do the steps above will i be able to get updates? i know that sometimes the updates will unroot my phone so i will look here on xda to see how to avoid that and by using supersu features. now i dont know what to do with my rooted phone, any suggestions? what are ROM's and how are they useful? ive seen that i should get xposed framework and then a addition to that called Wanam or something. please do advice me on what to do with my rooted phone like mods roms and kernels and what not and a brief explantion of what they are would be nice and also if my above steps are wrong.
THANK YOU for your help and sorry for the NOOB questions as i literally am a NOOB and would love to know more about Android and my note 3.
