Full screen Apps - Thought this might be a worthwhile thread - Xperia Z3 Compact General

Hey,
So Hope everyone is enjoying their new Z3C, I know I am.
As a first time on-screen key user, the one thing that slightly grates on me is the way the nav bar takes up screen real estate in certain apps. So thought maybe (I'm going out on a limb here and assuming Im not the only one with that mentality) would be useful to compile a list of apps (whether they're games, or simply alternative versions of sms, browser apps) that are full screen. I.e. they support and use the 'Immersive mode' without the need for root.
Browser wise, my contribution is Javelin, which is ALMOST as fast as Chrome, but is extremely elegant and offers full screen, (via transparent nav buttons) which just looks SO much better.
Anyone else? I appreciate you can get any app to be full screen with root tactics..........but still.

Only app I've noticed so far is Reddit Sync with ads removed uses the transparent nav bar and it is beautiful.

Agreed, full immersive mode is the way to go. The on-screen nav buttons are an eyesore, IMO. I can't wait to achieve root (without unlocking the bootloader) so I can apply it to all my most used apps which look far nicer in full immersive mode.

THANKS for mentioning Javelin! I've searched for a good fullscreen browser and it seems this is just what I was looking for.
Regarding the topic - for those of you who don't know it already I can recommend Talon. It's a gorgeous twitter client that can be tweaked in every possible way.

Guys,
I expect you guys know but there is an immersive mode app that i have been using, it doesnt require root and you can even toggle it on and off from the notification bar (there is a setting to enable this).
The only issue is that for apps where you want or need to use a keyboard it doesnt work when active, though you can disable, enter text and re-enable afterwards. You can even toggle it on for the home screen.
Worked well when I was experimenting with it.

hussan882, what's this app you're referring to?

Immersive Full-screen mode tis the one

That should be this one?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.ppareit.immersivemode

I'm using All in One Gestures: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phoenixstudios.aiogestures to achieve full immersive mode right now and it's working pretty good, in addition to having a host of other useful shortcuts as well.

It's a nice temporary solution until a locked BL root exploit is discovered.

iDEAS for touch style application

Over in the Elf forum we love the htc cube. this is an application that has sides and a face. one side has general apps, one has multimedia apps, and one contacts and phone.
it is very useful but cannot be fully modified.
We all love the cube and want to reconfigure it but cannot quite get it right...transformation issues, and some icons that cannot change, etc.
I wonder if someone could do a similar app that was more configurable? if the animation was too hard what about movement like Tene's Contact Manager or a dissolve transformation ???
Sadly I am no longer a coder but would be happy to donate for such an app...
just thinking out load,
Sam.

This is a small test of a work-in-progress.:
http://rapidshare.com/files/43755638/FlashBox.zip.html
the "oficial" site is actually a portuguese forum:
http://www.pocketpt.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=16424
i am really contemplating on the same ideas as well.. but having ideas without any knowledge in programming really sucks for me..
i stumbled this very nice transition animation thingies which are said written in dotNET framework 2..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOMrPz56OVo
link to the developer can be found here
the project is made only for smartphones but i think the transitions switches and its idea can be used in a revolutionary PPC launcher of some sort..
i quite don't like having a launcher that eats the whole screen (just like the touchflo cube), hiding the top and bottom bars, giving the user an illusion of having a "new" and "exciting" interface - but then after you select something, you'll be pulled back to the same windows mobile interface..
maybe it's better to just stick to what Windows mobile looks like, but yet, giving it something flashy and worth seeing instead.. just like cool transitions..
maybe the swipe gesture can be used to flip the contents of the screen instead (including the top and bottom bars) rather than rotating a full screen cube.. i think it'll definitely load and feel faster than summoning a full screen application and redrawing the default interface and the launched program afterwards..
just a thought though..
That is pretty cool...hopefully it can be applied to touch screens as well.
Some excellent additional thoughts and ideas. For me a fullscreen app works best as it allows the touch interface to look much better than wm6 and gives me more 'elbow' room when using my fingers to control the application.
The flash solution looks good but I would prefer to minimise memory demands by loading as little additional software as possible.
Mind you I am no longer a coder and if it works and avoids devouring all my memory I will be VERY happy indeed.
All the best,
Sam.
Orb Interface Concept
Hello
I thought of a new interface idea that would be finger friendly and everything. Read about it on my XDA post here:
I think it would be a great interface, but I need some programers to make it happen. Get the word out about this project, and maybe something will happen.
Thanks,
Andrew

control panel in notification drawer.

hey guys, ive had my nexus for a while, but i switched over from an iphone and on the iphone there was a plug in called sb settings which allowed you to swipe your finger across the status bar and a small control panel would drop down giving you options to dim your screen, turn wifi and other toggles on and off, and gave you your system info all without having to leave the current app you were on. i was wondering if there is such a thing for android, where you have a control panel in the notification drawer.?

A free app called 'Bar Control' will let you put shortcuts in the notification bar.
I use this with 'Switches', a paid toggling app, and a free app 'Wifi Status' (that warns you if you have wifi on but no connection to a network).

Quick Settings free on the market will also do this. Nice little program I use it every day.

+1, works great (although it could do with a UI uplift).

It would be good, I'm stock so not sure if LED torch works with root.
the led torch app for the N1 defenitely requires root

Hide navigation bar when typing?

Hi all,
Is there a way to hide the navigation bar when typing, whether rooted/custom roms or stock? When typing quickly in landscape (with swiftkey) I keep pushing home by accident.
Thanks.
Team EOS just released a stable rom that allows you to hide the navigation bars (holding the power button). It works great but I found using gmd gesture control (recommended in a similar thread) to be much more effective and easy to use. It has lots more options than just hiding the navigation bars. With all the new and programmable gestures I really am beginning to use my nexus differently. Even though it takes a little getting used to.

hiding is easy, but its kind of tiring to do if its just for typing a sentence or two. if youre in for fullscreen browsing it is an option most roms have. i use it mostly for playing games.
another option is phoneUI, which surprisingly works pretty neat, i also like the notificationdropdown better. it makes way in landscape orientation just like on your phone.
another take would be to blow up the keyboard, maybe your fingers like it better. pa can individually change apps, even keyboards to any size or form you want.
yet another option would be the phoneUI keyboard, this is what i use and i find it better to type on. i use it with systemUI set to tabUI so i dont get these fat bottons down there anyway.
Thanks a lot guys, I'm completely stock at the moment but will be rooting soon, especially with this. Just got to sort through which rom I want!
@toid, that looks brilliant, would like to have those other gestures too. Thanks!
So I've rooted now and got the GMD Gestures, loving them! Will be installing Paranoid once it's updated to 4.1.2

Smaller Notifications in pull down Menu

Hello everybody,
Is there any possibility to make the notification text smaller or minimize the whole section?
Because I have some apps running which need background service and keeping them in notification area prevents them to get closed. Apps like fingersecurity or smart app lock.
But it's too big. It takes too much space.
I didn't find anything useful.
Greetings

A little suggestion.
In S5 settings/applications, uncheck notifications for apps that need permanent icons but keep them active in your standalone applications settings.
Icons and notifications will dissapear but your apps will be active
For example, in TSF shell that I use too, keep system persistent in its own settings, but uncheck notifications in phone settings/application.
(it works also for all in one gestures ).
Try and report, but must work (it does at least for me).
Sorry for poor english, hope you understand what I mean
Best regards
Franky
Absolutely know what you mean. got the same thought. But wanted to keep them in notification and make em smaller.
For now I will make it the way you suggested

Have a look to xposed modules if you're root, several ones allow to change notifications aspects, app settings to change DPI ratios (here on general settings, be aware, all will be change ) or maybe wanam xposed in notification panel options (not sure for the 2nd one, but try to change font format option).
Good luck
Franky
EDIT: OH, in wanam and notification panel options, you can also hide the keyboard icon as well
Hi all! Any update regarding this? I didn´t find any Xposed module that can help with this issue and I have 4 apps that are taking lots of space in the notification area!
Thanks in advance,
WR

Immersive mode, hide status bar, ignore punch hole (without root)

I found a method for apps to ignore the punch hole to gain screen real estate (with some limitations). I hope some developer can use this to make a system-wide solution.
I did this on my s10e with One UI 3.0.
Inside MultiStar there’s a setting called “The app size stretch to camera hole”, there apps can be set to ignore the camera punch hole. By doing this you allow apps to stretch to the top of the display when hiding the status bar via adb, bx actions, etc. but elements at the top, although usable, will fall under a black or colored box and wont be visible.
Next step is to turn on “waterfall cutout” under settings/developer options/simulate display with cutout. This makes the status bar thinner on any app set to ignore the camera punch hole, and use the full screen when activating immersive modes but launchers, keyboards, edge panels, power menu, app switcher and other UI elements get black bars at both sides of the display.
It wou be amazing to see a workaround to the black bars.
I took some screenshots and edited in the camera hole for reference.

Thank you so much for this method! I have been looking for some way to utilize entire screen (instead of stuck with the default way Samsung hides their punch holes) since I purchased my Note 10. I was following someone else's advice to repack apps and set them to ignore the notch, but MultiStar is way easier to tweak and it works for all apps!

Install "Nice Lock", it's the "launcher app" for these plugins.
Real(tm) solution: root and use https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/module-n3o-no-nonsense-notch-overlay.4226413/
