Doom 3 Working for AFTV - Fire TV General

Okay, today I decided to see if I could get Doom III working, and after a bit of trial and error, I have figured it out.
First off, visit this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970071
You want to download the RC2 file that is attached to the first post.
You also need to follow the instructions on where to put your Doom 3 files Just copy the base directory to (including the base directory:
Code:
/sdcard/DIII4A
or
Code:
/storage/emulated/0/DIII4A
You also need to put the gl2progs that is in the RC2 file you downloaded, to the following directory (including the gl2progs directory:
Code:
/sdcard/DIII4A/base
or
Code:
/storage/emulated/0/DIIII4A/base
Do not install the apk that comes with the RC2 file, we are not using it.
Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.n0n3m4.DIII4A via your favorite way.
Or use: http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/?id=com.n0n3m4.DIII4A
Install, and run. Takes a lot of memory, so i suggest your reboot if you've had xbmc open or a lot of apps/games.
Only settings I change is in Graphics to 1080p. If you have a 720p TV, then I suggest you do a Custom of 1280x720.
It does NOT find my mouse, so I do not turn that option on.
Correction to the gamepads & the menu info I had here before. On the Amazon Game Pad the Right Stick controls the mouse on the menus and R1 button is a mouse click. The back button will bring up the menu and activate the right stick as mouse while in game.
Graphics Settings: If you want to have dynamic lighting on, don't have Disable lightening checked (Under General Tab when you first load the game) and in Graphics set Screen resolution to Half (0.5x). MSAA: 1x (None). This is will give you okay framerate while having the Doom 3 feel that is important.
I used Foldermount to move the data to my USB Thunbdrive, worked fine.
Amazon Gamepad Controls:
Left Stick for Forward & Back, and Strafe Right & Left
Right Stick to look around in game, and control mouse in menu
R1 Button is Shoot/Punch/Action in game and Mouse Press in menu
L1 Button is Prev Weapon (I think, i changed my defaults by accident and not sure)
A Button is crouch
X Button is Jump
Y Button is Flashlight
B button is Reload Also the Settings button is apparently reload
Back button brings up menu
You need to set a PDA button, I had mine be the Left Stick (if you press down, it's a button) because the settings button didn't work, and I couldn't assign it to the Dpad, nor triggers.
Have fun!

Nice going.
Now make Doom Legacy run and then SRB2 so we can play it on Fire TV as well.
Seriously,SRB2 needs to be ported to Android already.

There is source code & a linux port of it, so should be doable. I haven't programed in like 2 decades, but have been considering getting back into it. All in all, might not even need that much programming to get working, since their are linux ports of it.
the SRB2 does look pretty cool. Who knows that the future holds?

It was already done three years ago in two YouTube vids, but cybocat never released the app.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FA7vyOy09Q8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9Em27OsREY
I would love to see it finally arrive for Android.

By SRB2 you mean that Sonic game?
I've never seen it or played it. From witch konsole is it from?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Free mobile app

Yes,it is called Sonic Robo Blast 2.
I was amazed by the graphics the first time I played it with an old PC running good ol' Windows XP.
It started on Windows,Linux, and Mac from modifying Doom Legacy.
Since then,it has been ported to Dreamcast,Wii (twice),PS3,and PSP (working on Android via PPSSPP but limited and crash prone).
All of these, yet still no released Android port.
It could most simply be done from the Linux version with someone knowledgable enough that can port it.

Srb2 on android would absolutely be wonderful ima follow this thread in hopes of seeing it In the future.

Recently I reset/wiped my AFTV because I got new storage for it. During this time I got myself a new install of Doom 3 on my computer, set all the settings to the lowest possible/turned stuff off, then I used that installation of Doom 3 for my AFTV Doom 3. Reason for this is because the previous version of Doom 3 I used (BFG edition) was also modded up and other stuff to look great on modern rigs.
So with the new settings and install, I found that I was able to set the Graphics to 1 (instead of .5), and keep the advance video setttings all turned on (cept for AA) in the Game System settings (inside the game, not in the loader). Game plays fine with way better graphics then my original post.
Will be updating the first post in this thread with info, maybe later tonight.

PSX Emulation on this thing.

So I got an Iconia today and I;m trying to put it through its paces. SNES emulation works fine but I'm having a war of a time getting PS1 emulation to work. I've got both PSX4Droid and FPse on this thing. I've got the playstaion bios and a .bin image of Tekken 3 that I ripped.
psx4droid won't run the game at all. The controls show up but then it immediately shows "unexpected error..." message.
FPse will actually run the game but the onscreen controlls wont respond. If I "Eject" the game it'll go to the Title screen and I can control up and down but nothing else.
I've seen posts stating that people have gotten PSX emulation to work on this, but none that detail just how. Any help in this recard would be greatly appreciated as I've only got 2 weeks to decide if I'm keeping this thing.
Edit(I have FPse working somewhat?: Ok I did some more poking around and I think I have something here. Looks like it was a matter of the start button not showing up on screen. Turning it to portrait got all the controls on screen and it actually was responding to the button presses. In order to get it to run smoothly I had to crank up frame skip but it'd showing 60fps. Does that even make sense?
I had all these same problems so i fell back on my old computer repair days experience. Some times newer is not always better ... I couldnt get any of the newer versions of psx4droid to run or even load games right. so afetr some digging i found the maker of psx4droid for a short while made one he called psx4droidv2 but for what ever reason he does not have it on his site. so I just googled it what your looking for is psx4droidv2 1.1.2 you just instal it like normal and put the bios files and game files all in same folder and I am up and running like a champ on my iconia everything loads and works. it even lets me do away with on screen controls and use my ps3 controller to play the games, you just have to map the buttons but is easy.
Hope this helps if so give me thanks.

Well it runs with is more than I can say for the first version of psx4droid that I'd downloaded. Unfortunately It doesn't seem to run at a solid frame rate. Also the screen scales too skinny.
That kind of settings do you have yours set to?
On another note, I've gotten FPse running at a consistent frame rate but there seems to be some games that simply won't play with it (Megaman Legends 2).

Custom ROM suggestion

So want do you thing a custom ROM for the Ouya need?
Force orientation landscape
Screen display size option
Overlay menu when you hold the Ouya bottom on the controller with home, recent, back, menu and other for easy access
Touch screen mapping like GameKeyboard, Tincore, usb/bt joystick center, Sixaxis, ...
Fullscreen
Play Store
Gapps
Chrome
File Manager
Wireless ADB
Youtube from Google TV
Netfix from Google TV
nfs
usb drive mounting
def. better multitasking
back home and recent menu
actual working notifications
multiple user login maybe even just like an administrator login with full access and a regular user account for just playing game so your friends/siblings dont ruin all your hard work in a matter of minutes
way to list the games from the ouya store by release date so i can see whats new and not have to look through every list like an idiot
ability to unpair controllers not just turn them while the ouya still has em connected so you have to reboot cuz your keyboard is in player one slot
task killer and services manager
reboot shutdown sleep
midi keyboard support
Support for external mouse..... left click on the mouse ran the program, right click the mouse close the program, the middle mouse click caused the program settings.
Cifs support.
Ntfs write support.
I would like to see a rom that doesn't need a account to get to use your console (since sony was hacked i don't like to give my credit card infos away)
Another OS would be nice like a Desktop optimized Android (a cm 10.1 mod is already working and out there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348548) or a Linux distro like Debian or Ubuntu

Amiga Emulator working perfectly on OUYA - Install files and config details attached

Ultimate Amiga Emulator on OUYA (Sideloaded) – Uae4all2-SDL v2.3.0.8
The link below is a pre-configured workbench image with WHD Folder structure for putting your (WHDLoad) games in to.
Just extract the archive to your USB drive that you attach to your OUYA.
Systemlite WB with iGame (Including Game Art) - Download Here (42.5mb)
WHDLOAD compatible game files are easy to locate on the net. Just put them in the directory structure I provided. They should be unzipped and contain an .info file and a folder.
ie. Info file for Sensi would go in WHDLoad\S\ and the game folder goes in the same directory WHDLoad\S\
Or you can just load floppy images.
Here is my guide to installing IMHO the best Amiga emulator available and how to get it working flawlessly on OUYA.
You can use it to load .adf disk images or mount .hdf games / files and folders.
Ok, once you side load the app you will need to configure it.
Any option I don’t tell you to change should be left as is! Select options by pressing ‘O’ on the OUYA controller.
When you first load it, it will give you a menu to download files.
Both ‘data files’ and ‘blankdisks files’ should be ticked by default.
Select ‘Show more options’
Enter menu ‘On-screen keyboard’ select ‘On-screen keyboard theme’ and change to ‘Simple Theme by Beholder’
Select ‘ Size of button images’ and change to ‘tiny’
Select ‘On-screen keyboard transparency’ and change to ‘invisible’
You can select ‘Customize on-screen keyboard layout’ and relocate the onscreen buttons if you wish. As invisible means you can still see them faintly, I locate the d-pad on the bottom left corner and buttons 1-4 in a vertical line on the right hand side.
Now Select OK and it will take you up one level to the Device configuration menu.
Select ‘Size of audio buffer’ and change to ‘small’
Select Remap Physical Keys:
Press the left analogue stick button (L3) to re-map the button on it. Map it to LALT by finding it in the list and pressing “O” (This enable this key to swap input methods between Joystick and Mouse mode)
Select Remap Physical Keys again, press L2 button on your OUYA controller and map to L (You need this key mapped to load a hard drive folder later on in the emulator menus)
Select ‘Video settings’ and tick ‘separate thread for video’. Linear video filtering is already ticked so leave that as is. You can decide if you want 4:3 ratio or stretched. I use stretched so I leave this unchecked.
Select OK. The app will proceed to download files and load the emulator.
You should now be at the emulator menus:
Navigate to ‘Preset System Setup’ and push right to select A1200
Select Display settings:
Preset width should be 640
Change ‘preset height’ to 640x256
Return to main menu
Select More options:
Change mouse speed to .5
Return to main menu
THIS NEXT SECTION IS FOR THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO USE WHDLOAD OR LOAD HDF GAMES – ITS WORTH SETTING UP THIS WAY IMO.
Select ‘Hard Disk & Memory Options’
Change ‘Boot HD to ‘File’
Select ‘HD Dir’
Navigate to where your WHDLoad Folder is and press L2 (Mapped to L) on the OUYA controller.
You should be taken back to the menu page and HD Dir should be WHDLoad
Select ‘HD file’
Navigate to where your Systemlite.hdf file is located and select (Or any game .hdf file should you choose to load games that way)
For those wanting to load floppy disk games, change floppy speed to 4x or 8x.
Return to main menu
Select ‘More Options’
Change CPU Speed to '12T2'
Return to main menu
IMPORTANT – SELECT 'SAVE GENERAL CONFIG' from the main menu – this will make your selections your default setup.
Now exit the App.
Obtaining kickrom files:
You need to obtain the following kickroms named as follows:
kick13.rom
kick31.rom
Only certain kick31.rom versions work. Not every revision works, which sucks!
If in doubt, purchase the Amiga Forever Essentials Here for $1
You need to place the kickroms in the following folder:
sdcard0/Android/data/pandora.uae4all.sdl/files/kickstarts/
Use something like ES File Explorer to do this part.
If you are struggling to find working kickrom files you can get them via android market.
Search for the app Amiga Forever Essentials.
There are some files (kickroms) that must be located in your System/Dev/Kickstarts folder within the systemlite image to make some (Not all) games work using WHDLoad.
So this part is optional depending on what games you play.
You will need to add these somehow (and also rename them) - see below
Take a copy of kick13.rom, save and rename it kick34005.a500 in your WHDload kickstarters folder.
Take a copy of kick31.rom, save and rename it kick40068.A1200 in your WHDload kickstarters folder.
Now you need to get these to the System\Devs\Kickstarts directory within your systemlite image.
Easiest way would be to add the files to the kickstarter folder within your WHDLoad folder as mentioned.
Then in the workbench you can drag and drop into System\Devs\Kickstarts directory from the WHDLoad folder.
Once this part has been done, you can launch the app.
Select ‘Reset’ to start the emulator.
If you have used my setup file – systemlite.hdf it should load to the workbench. All you need to do is select iGame and have it scan for your games (My old games list may be present but will dissapear once you do a scan).
To do this, load iGame, then right mouse click the top of the screen and select the scan option (left mouse click) It may take a minute or so.
It will auto scan the WHDLOAD folder structure for your games if you have used my files.
If you want to support WHDLoad development you will need to get your own personal WHDLOAD keyfile. Once you have this you need to save it into the $ directory on your systemlite.hdf workbench image.
The easiest way to do this is on a PC using WINUAE.
OUYA Controller Keys:
U = Left mouse click (When in mouse mode)
Y = brings up the Amiga keyboard
A = right mouse click (When in mouse mode)
O = Joystick fire (Also acts as left click mouse when in joystick mode)
R2 = Return to menu / game
Touchpad = Mouse navigation
And if you mapped these correctly:
L3 = Select input method - Pressing L3 switches between modes. If you press it once, you can use the analog stick to move the mouse around. Press it twice more to go back to joystick control.
L2 = L
Mouse emulation:
The mouse can be moved with the analogue stick, D-pad or the OUYA touchpad.
To hide the on screen controls:
Enter the "change device configuration menu" on startup
Select on screen keyboard menu
Select remap on screen controls and un-tick all the boxes then Seleck ok
Select ok
Select ok.
App should now load with no on screen controls.
RESOURCES - These Helped make this possible, so please support them
Developers Website: Here This app is not on the OUYA store so you will need to side load it.
WHDLOAD Website: http://www.whdload.de/
ClassicWB by Bloodwych: http://classicwb.abime.net/
iGame Website: http://winterland.no-ip.org/igame/ - If you need instructions to use.
I bought a registration for WHDLOAD ($30USD) to support development.
You can use it without buying but it does have a nag screen for the unregistered version but this only comes up when you first launch a game.
Hopefully this guide is accurate and works for you….
Credits to Lubomyr for creating such a great app for Android / Ouya
And anyone else involved in its development.
Enjoy

Updated the 1st post as I hadn't included the part for adding the kickstart roms
Thanks for the guide, but for me the mouse cursor doesn't match what I'm doing in the Amiga environment. Any clue how to fix that?

I think with the OUYA there are 2 mouse cursors on screen when you use the touch pad.
1 for OUYA environment and one for the app.
If you use the left analogue you should only see one cursor
No way to fix that as the app is not officially supported
Some corrections;
- You can press L3 to switch between modes. If you press it once, you can use the analog stick to move the mouse around.
- You only need kick31.rom (since that's the only one selected), but only one certain version works. Google for "kick31.rom" to get it. Not every revision works, which sucks.

Yep, there are incompatible kickroms out there.
Unfortunately I can't share the working one as it's copyrighted.
I will add the google search suggenstion to the to guide if that brings up the correct kick31.rom
cheers
It seems some games just won't work without more kickstart roms (and I have no idea where to get them or where to put those). For example, try to run Another World (WHD). It'll say something like;
DOS-Error #205
(object not found)
on reading "devs:kickstarts/kick34005.a500"

UPDATE: From another forum:
"you need the actual kickstart files themselves, so in the above instance, take your kickstart 1.3 which you use for winuae, copy it to the System\Devs\Kickstarts dir, make sure its unzipped and rename it to kick34005.a500."
Easiest way would be to add the kick13.rom to the kickstarter folder within your WHDLoad folder and rename it as kick34005.a500 (you may find something there already) . Then in the workbench you can drag and drop into System\Devs\Kickstarts directory then they will work.
You will also want to do this with your kick31.rom renaming it to kick40068.A1200 and also saving it as mentioned above in the systemlite System\Devs\Kickstarts directory.
All the games I play work great. Can't say i've tried Another world but it was a cool game so I will give it a go when I get some time.
I mainly use it for Sensible World of Soccer
Update: Just tried it and it works
Bear in mind, the Systemlite image is a living file.
When you do something to it, it will save those changes so in the above instance, once you add the kickstart once it will save in that location and you don't need to do it again.
Something to bear in mind for once you have it all set up you should maybe make a backup.
Two players not working!
Hey this is good work, but its unfortunate two players don't work. I've tried sensible world of soccer 96/97, when I do two players. one controller controls both teams I wanted this amiga emulator working 2 players so badly but I don't think this controller issue will be fix. unless we get a proper port from developer.

I have updated the top thread with a new WB. Here is the summary:
Systemlite WB with iGame (Inc Game Art) (42.5mb)
Changes from the previous image include:
WB boots directly to iGame
iGame opens full screen.
iGame includes game screenshots (Full Amiga games database structured for WHDLoad file system - HD Folder) Just copy these over your existing folders. No games will be deleted. A game image will be written in to all folders for viewing in iGame.
Better colour scheme on WB (256 colours)
I also added to the tutorial that CPU speed should be set to 12T2 as it makes the WB more responsive.
The link contains an updated version of the app (v2.3.0.8)
This may have better support for OUYA controllers but it doesn't seem to fix the 2 player issue.
I too would love to have 2 player sensi on it.
Hopefully the Dev will solve this at some point
I just wanted to say gazdaman many thanks for writing the guide. I have been following it on ouyaforum.com. I know how much effort it takes to write guides so that others can follow.
It is great to play Senisible Soccer/SWOS again. It was never the same when not playing it on an AMIGA. 1990's here we come (again!).
The whole WHDLoad thing works well also.
Finally is it me or the ouya controller, but the pass/kick button did not seem fully responsive all the time. I missed an open goal!!! I guess I should try a PS3 controller.

You're welcome mate.
Happy to share the knowledge I have gained in configuring this app.
Regarding pass/shoot, maybe you are using the Autofire button?
Use U as pass/kick if your control config is set to 1 or change it to 2 (within the more options menu) which makes O the fire and U the autofire.
Sensi on the Amiga was the best by far.
Hopefully one day this app will support local 2 player.
Natural Soccer for the Ouya has great potential to compete for the Sensi crown and hopefully the Dev adds tournaments and online play sometime.
An online league feature would be awesome and I doubt we will ever see online play for the amiga emulator.
If Natural Soccer added this it could be the New Sensi - No pressure Schleinzer

Heavily Customized Fire TV Overview (With Video)

I was lucky enough to purchase a rootable Amazon Fire TV and have customized it to be quite the awesome device, thanks in part to the wonderful XDA community for providing all sorts of hacks. I wanted to show off what this little device can do so here is a video showing my setup, including the hardware I use and all the customizations I've done.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1nf2ffZT3s
HARDWARE
-----------------------------------
First off, I want to discuss hardware. Here is what I have connected to my FTV.
Insignia Powered USB HUB
(http://www.insigniaproducts.com/products/computer-speakers-accessories/NS-PCH5431.html) - Without a powered USB, I wouldn't be able to do much. This one was cheap at Best Buy and is working flawlessly.
Logitech K700 Wireless Keyboard (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Keyboard-Controller-Google/dp/B004VD4F1W) - I bought this several years ago to use with my old HTPC. It works well with the FTV, but not all the buttons function as it was designed for the Google TV. The keyboard itself works great, as does the trackpad and the navigation controls. This does function in CWM to, so I don't need a wired keyboard.
Motorola Bluetooth Mouse - Just a simple BT mouse that works.
Logitech F710 Game Controller (http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/f710-wireless-gamepad) - I've had this for use on my PC games, but it works well for the FTV. More about game controllers below.
Ouya Game Controller (http://shop.ouya.tv/products/ouya-controller) - This works well with the FTV, both as a controller and as a touchpad. More about game controllers below.
MODIFICATIONS
-----------------------------------
I followed many guides on http://www.aftvnews.com/ to modify my FTV and get it to do what I wanted. Here are a few. I won't go into details about them, you can get that on AFTVNews. But I wanted to list what I've done.
Root (http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-root-the-amazon-fire-tv/)
Custom Boot Menu (http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-install-a-kernel-boot-menu-on-the-amazon-fire-tv/)

Mount System and Data to USB Drive (http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-use-a-usb-drive-as-the-fire-tvs-internal-storage/) - This was a must for me. Once I was able to have virtually unlimited memory, it allowed all the customizations and extras to happen.
APPLICATIONS
-----------------------------------
SPMC [XBMC/KODI] (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.semperpax.spmc&hl=en) - An awesome media player with tons of addons. There is plenty of discussion over this on the XDA forums.
Google Play Store Install (http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-install-the-google-play-store-on-the-amazon-fire-tv/)
Google Plays All Apps! (http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-trick-google-play-store-into-allowing-all-apps/) - Make the FTV more compatible with apps on Google Play
OUYA Framework (http://www.reddit.com/r/ouya/comments/2d6byk/turn_any_device_into_an_ouya_tutorial/) - Turn your FTV into an OUYA.... sort of. Once installed, this sort of messes up the home button, taking you to a messed up OUYA system screen instead of the Amazon Launcher. I found a work around to allow the OUYA games to still function, but not mess up the system. Install this alternative OUYA launcher then disable the OUYA Launcher using Titanum Backup. (http://ouyaforum.com/showthread.php?4436-BAXY-Custom-Launcher).
NOVA Launcher (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher&hl=en) - My launcher of choice. It works well with the remote.
Wallpaper (http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/themes-apps/background-t3029985) - The FTV has system wallpaper turned off, making most custom launchers only have a black background. This hack turns it on.
ISSUES
-----------------------------------
Game controllers - The short, not all controllers work with all games. This is a hit or miss area with some buttons not working on certain games. One issue I did find was that having my keyboard connected seems to mess up certain games. For example, Shadowngun. When it's connected, the L2 and R2 buttons do not work on either of my controllers. I do not know if this would be the same with the Amazon Controller. If I unplug it and reboot, the L2 and R2 works. My suggestion, if you have a wireless keyboard, test games without it plugged in first. A BT keyboard might not have this issue though.
OUYA - Having the OUYA framework is wonderful for increasing the available games. It's downfall is that it screws up the home button functionality. A work around is to disable the OUYA Launcher using Titanium Backup, and have the alternative OUYA Launcher (BAXY) installed. This gives games access to the OUYA framework without screwing with the default launcher.
I hope this helps people see the capabilities of the Fire TV and unlocks it for those lucky enough to have a rootable FTV. My future goals are to mess with the game controllers to see if I can figure out why some games work and others don't. I want to get an Amazon controller and see how that works with the OUYA framework. unfortunately they're on backorder at the moment.
Lots of useless junk too. You even point to the fact that a lot of the games you have installed do not work, so why not uninstall them? It just seems like your setup is over doing it. Not tryin to be rude just stating my opinion. The thread is good and I like that you would point people to where they can find tweaks, but the video is horrible.

Well I really liked it and I envy that screen! It looks pretty clear even from the camera.
Just 2 random things I noticed...I used nova launcher with xposed but probably wouldn't have reverted back if I got it looking the way you did. I played around with it on my phone awhile until I tried Google now with a few exposed tweaks. But I'm always on the lookout for a good launcher. Lots of people using nova but haven't found many good tutorials.
The other was fast reboot. I had this installed but the one persistent bug I have dealing with cec wasn't fixed by fast reboot. It needed an actual reboot. Then I read that those types of apps aren't always good for android. They included other "memory boosting" type apps as well. It didn't scare me but since it didn't help much I just uninstalled it. Then again, at the time I wasn't using a launcher so getting to the app was too tedious to make it worthwhile. Do you have any thoughts on that? Heard it might not be good for the device?
I enjoyed the video. Very impressive setup! Thanks for sharing!

That is because many of them I have not tested out yet to see which work well and which do not. Sort of a mass install of games over the last two weeks and I've not had the time to sort through them all. Many will be uninstalled I'm sure, but frankly, that doesn't concern me at this point. They don't take up resources beyond hard drive space and I have 320 gigs worth. I've not even touched 10% of available space yet. The point of the video is to show what the FTV is capable of, not to show a well polished and final system.
The video isn't great because I'm on a projector, lighting is difficult. Too much light and the screen is washed out. Too little and the camera sensor suffers.

Thanks for the support. I've been using both NOVA Launcher and Fast Reboot for about three years now and on multiple devices. I like how simple NOVA can be, yet is very customizable. Having it work well with the FTV remote was a big reason I went with it though. A more graphically pleasing look would be nice, but this does what I want it to do. I've read up a lot on the various memory clearing apps. Fast Reboot is simple and doesn't muck around in the weeds. I've been nothing short of happy with using it for several years now. It doesn't fall into the "memory boosting" apps, that try to tweak the system. Simply a quick way to clear memory cache.

I was not talking about the quality of the video, I meant that the video in general was horrible. The video capures what a lot of people do wrong when they post video of their devices. For one, you have too much going on in the video. If you wanna show us your setup, fine, but why do you have to show us every gadget you have? I for one think people that post videos about their device and for no reason show us 20 other devices are laughable. It takes away from what you are supposed to be showing us. Plus you have a lot of apps that you make no mention of. Like when you open up your utilities folder, you show the folder and do not say the names of any apps inside or what you have them installled for. I am not trying to say you did a bad job, cause like I said, the thread is nice, maybe you could go through your apps and tell us what they are and why you have them. You opened some games and showed off your launchers, but you should have gave us some more info on what your installed apps are. I will use the utilities folder as an example again, I like utility apps so I am sure others do too, but you have an awful lot of utility apps to not give us a simple rundown of what some of them are. Its different if you have a folder full of games that we can identify by looking at the icon, but when you have a folder full of apps that we cannot recognise then you should give us some input. Also, not everyone uses their Fire TV to play games or play with XBMC, so maybe you could show us something else besides launchers, SPMC and gaming. You have the important stuff listed on this thread, which is awesome, so you probably could have just made a video sayin to visit your thread for all info on the mods you have installed, maybe even showed them off a little, then got to the other less graphical non cool type of apps you have installed. Like I said its just an opinion, but the video really did seem like it was for show and nothing technical. Maybe you can make a part two and show us some of the other apps you have, and tell us what they do. People are into discovering new apps so maybe you can help someone discover something new besides something media or graphic driven. The video kinda reminds me of the unboxing videos where someone spends more time focusing on the cool accesories they have rather than the device itself.

I humbly disagree with your take on my video. My intention was to show you what modifications I have done with my system and I did just that. The specific devices I have are key to these modifications. I will give you that showing both a bluetooth mouse and a wireless keyboard/trackpad are slightly redundant, but if you're going to nitpick something like that, then just move on. I did not show every installed app, because again, it was to show you what modifications I have done, not to show you recommended apps I have installed. I believe you have completely missed the spirit of my post.

The vast majority of apps in my Utility folder are stock apps on the FTV that I put into the folder because I have no need for them. Such as the Game Circle, Superuser, etc. If you want a video of me explaining what apps I have, I can do that, but that does not fall in the spirit of my post. The apps I mentioned were the key apps necessary for my mods. Others are insignificant to the modifications.

Correct. If I were making a tutorial video on how to accomplish these mods, then it would have been a totally different type of video. It was simply to show some of the mods that can be used on the FTV with a little bit of personal experience using them.

I did spend a fair amount of time today weeding through the apps I have installed and maybe I will do an app video to accompany my setup. In a sense, you are right that this video is more of a unboxing video. My intention was to provide a glimpse into the modifications available for the FTV. A "modifications of" type of of unboxing video. I provided the links to many of the various modifications so that if someone wanted to achieve a function that I have, they would have the means to follow the tutorials that I followed.
Your setup is soooooo decent...thanks for the share!
Do I install Titanium and kill the AFTV launcher to use Nova as my main launcher? how do you go from Nova to Aftv back to Nova so easy? Now that i can do backgrounds I'll certainly like to use Nova instead of another custom one i'm using

Honestly, it's been a little while so I don't recall exactly how I got it functioning. I was toying around with lots of things and stumbled upon getting it working. Here's what I believe got it to work right. There isn't a function to set NOVA as the default launcher like on most android devices. Instead, you have to do some fiddling. Here is basically what I did.
Installed FiredTV Launcher - I used this for awhile before using the Llama app
Installed Nova Launcher - Froze KFTV Launcher using TB. This worked but I lost Amazon movies
Froze FiredTV Launcher and unfroze KFTV. This seemed to do the trick. I also have the Ouya framework installed, but with the Ouya launcher frozen or else it takes over.
Thanks for the video. I had given up on FiredTV and never got any launcher working right but you showed it could be done, so I went looking and found my answer.
Through the Xposed framework, I loaded a module which intercepts the "home" key and lets you define a launcher. I still use the fire tv stock launcher when absolutely required, but I launch it from within nova and when I press Home, I'm back to Nova.
I wanted to ask you about the USB drive. I had a flash drive and used the hack to mount data (or whatever it was) to the flash drive. Everything was SLOW -- unbearably so. I have a USB hard drive coming, so wanted to ask if you find the speed acceptable with the hard drive. I believe some of the tweaks from tvaddons.ag for xbmc were actually part of the problem. I ended up just starting over at one point.

You're welcome! That is why I wanted to post a video and provide links. Are you refering to Rbox's Xposed module? I installed that too, but completely forgot about having it.
As for the flash drive, I tried one at first, it was horribly slow. Many others have had similar experiences. It's reference in one of the guides I posted. After switching to my external hard drive, it was just about as fast as stock. I was actually surprised, because my drive is a WD Passport, no external power supply. I simply used a powered hub and it works great. I would like an SSD, but not going to spend the money on one now.
The tweaks from tvaddons would only affect XBMC. They shouldn't have any affect on the FTV itself.
Yes, the addons only impacted kodi, BUT, kodi was the app I used the most at the time. I know kodi has a pretty small footprint for an android app, so for it to become painstakingly slow, pretty much ruined my fire tv experience. Of course, I was also using gotham "customizations" on kodi, which was also possibly a contributing factor.
Is a powered hub required for an external hard drive? I had purchased one powered hub and tried it with fire tv and it could no longer see my flash drive through the powered hub. With a powered hub, can the fire tv (via stickmount) see multiple storage devices?

I still doubt it was anything with kodi. FLash drives are known to be very slow for this.

I first tried using it without a hub and the FTV didn't even register it was connected. Once I got a powered hub, all was well with the world. I just picked one up at Best Buy.

im glad to see two of the modifications that i posted to good use. The Ouya Framework that i pulled from my madcatz mojo and freezing kftv launcher using titaniumbackup. the way that i got ouya to boot was i used autopilot to launch it at startup and when i need to exit i would simply hit the home button.

Have you looked into the BAXY launcher for OUYA? Withe the normal OUYA launcher, it was hijacking my home button. I couldn't play the OUYA games unless it was active, but freezing it and running BAXY worked.

I have not used baxy, matter of fact i only own one fire tv left, i mostly changed to nexus player and im slowing getting rid of all my legacy boxes and making room for the razer forge tv.
i loaded the tv launcher so once autopilot booted into the ouya launcher i would install all the ouya apps and just go back to the tv launcher and launch the apps from that screen instead. im not really a gamer so all this was more for a proof of concept.
BTW, have you seen my thread of configuring IPTV on your fire tv? if not i would really look into it.

That works too, but the OUYA framework would still hijack my home button at times, no matter what launcher I was using. Perhaps I might be able to keep that from happening with autopilot. I've just not taken the time to bother with OUYA stuff much once, games are installed, I haven't needed to go into the OUYA menus.

I played with it and have it working some. I have been really busy with a different project, until last Saturday. Now I've got some free time to fiddle more. I have some controller things I'm going to fiddle with first.
Awesome customization.. but wud be great if you could post some instructions to newbs like me on how to setup the NovaLauncher/Live Wallpaper and the external

Thanks. Did you not see all the links I posted below the video? They're there. Well, minus the Nova Launcher setup, but look at post #9.
Nice video, thanks for the info, checking out setting up the live wallpapers & nova launcher.
I have an Amazon Game Controller for the AFTV and I don't have a problem with compatibility with any games like I did using my Xbox 360 controller & a PS3 controller i have. Glad I picked one up.
Shadowgun HD 2.5 is what I have and it works great with the AGC. You can program which keys are what and it works with the shoulder buttons (tops ones, didn't try the bottom ones).
I do want to point out that the 2 shoulder bottom buttons don't work with many games unless they are program to use an analog steer & analog break (or at least something like that, forget what the games that see them call it).
And as for loading up a ton of games to check out later, I'm down. I've done the same thing. Most are crap or the ones the would be fun just don't work, but you know, it's the journey, right?

GameSome and Hyperspin front end launchers....

Has anyone been able to successfully install and use either GameSome or Hyperspin on the Nvidia Shield TV on Marshmalloe? I followed directions for Gamesome to the T, using the new beta version but every time I load the app it says merging data, and my storage/0/gamesome folder disappears every single time. I don't think I'm doing something right and I messed with it for hourd last night. I'm not gonna put anymore time into it, until I verify that either one can be run on the new MM update. These frontends are awesome, if I could get them to work. Has anyone had better luck than I?
Sent from my Sammy S6 using Revolution 1.0
Same happens here, soon as app loss it migrates that folder to some place. Not sure if it's a beta issue or what. I can't get it to run on marshmallow.
I've had no success with Gamesome, even switching to the 2.0 beta he is working on. I do know the dev has bought a SHIELD TV so in time things will improve we hope. I've heard people are using "Arc Browser" instead which is similar to Gamesome.
I do have an extensive Hyperspin setup (68 systems iirc) on my HTPC. I'm playing with the android version for my SHIELD TV, with a 500GB USB HDD connected as adopted storage. I have several of what I call the classic consoles (Nes,Snes,MD,32X etc.) working. They have artwork, videos playing and they launch the game almost instantly with Retroarch.
My advice would be to ensure you can play the games on the emulator first then worry about Hyperspin. The .ini files I downloaded from the guide on their website DID need editing. The ROM path proved to be the biggest hic-cup, it was very fussy over how it was set. I'll provide a few lines from my snes setup as an example to help you out. Obviously you'll need to adapt it for different systems...

Nice to see this. I'm have a very extensive hyperspin/rlauncher setup. Very helpful to those (like myself) looking to setup hs on Android. ?
