Software Update version 51.1.3.0_user_513011820 - Fire TV General

Amazon has posted the source code for version 51.1.3.0_user_513011820 on their US source code page. So far, I've only heard of German Fire TVs receiving this update, so it's a bit odd for it to be posted on the US source code page but not on the German source code page.
I was thinking this version wouldn't get pushed to the US, but I may be wrong. My guess is it's an insignificant update from the previous version, 51.1.3.0_user_513011520, but it's always good to be aware of it and see if anyone gets it.

And the results are in... the two 51.1.3.0 archives are identical.

One of my Fire TVs just got this new version, so I guess it isn't just for German devices. I'll report back any changes I can find shortly.
@rbox The download URL is http://amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuit...ueller-ota-51.1.3.0_user_513011820-signed.bin for your pre-rooted making needs.
Edit: My sacrificial Fire TV that I let update to everything hasn't gotten it yet, so it may be a bit before I can uncover the changes.

Excellent. I'll whip it up tonight.

Interesting thing I have 513011820 since 26.09.2014 according to the Infopage at Fire.

Yeah, they started pushing it around that time. But it wasn't a widespread deployment.

I've combed through the interface and all the menus and haven't found a single difference between 51.1.3.0_user_513011520 and this new version, 51.1.3.0_user_513011820. Seems like whatever this update brings is completely behind the scenes.

Received this update last night on my one that is not rooted. Didn't find any changes.

I'm running this version and my FTV isn't rooted, when I try to root, it TowelRoot says my phone isn't supported. Am I SOL for the time being?

See AFTVnews.com/software to know which software versions can be rooted. The latest version, 51.1.3.0, cannot be rooted.

No one knows. It will require a new exploit to be found. I imagine one day it will be rootable again but that is just a guess.

My amzon fire tv is still on pre-order and will be delivered on 26th this month so I was wondering if it will most likley have a software version which cannot be rooted? If so should I cancel the order since it seems unlikley that there will ever be a root available for the newer versions.

If it's a german version there is no "most likely". The German units ship with 51.1.3.0. As for being unrootable... there might be another kernel exploit, there might be an android exploit. No one knows.

Version 51.1.3.0 added support for UK Amazon acounts so it is very unlikely that UK Fire TVs will arrive with a software version older than 51.1.3.0. In other words, it is very unlikely UK Fire TVs will be rootable at this time. Like rbox said, theres no way to know what the future will bring as far as new roots.

Thank you for the info, I guess I could simply hold on to it and see what the future holds especially since I got it at the disscount price of £49.

I got this version pushed OTA sucks because I had root and didn't know had to disable OTAs but on the other hand I noticed this update lets you enable install apps from unknown sources so can we still get play store if I push the necessary files to the fire and I can install through ES File explorer????

No, play store won't work correctly without xposed. Xposed needs root.

Didnt realize it would be a staged rollout....
I'm running CM-11, but I haven't seen it the update on Sammobile. I wouldn't think these sold in such numbers to warrant a staged rollout either, though.

Me either, all these sites say it released but no one that i talk to that has one has the update.... so are they just going by the samsung site that you have the link to? I was pretty amped earlier when i read about this then i cant get the update. Its just disappointing lol
I'm just waiting for root for it then I will update. I don't want to update and not be able to remove the crap I don't use. If I knew how to make a rooted version, I would do it but I don't know anything about development. Oh well, I guess the wait won't kill me.
Sammy Jumped The Gun
It is starting to seem as if Samsung jumped the gun on this one. I think they released it alright, but released it to TMO for testing, etc. I know quite a few people that have this exact same model on TMO and they all live in different areas of the country. Not one has received it. Samfirmware has no link for it, and they don't even mention it. And for the most part if there is a new version out, they know and quick. And of course 4.4.4 is not available in KIES.
This is why I believe Sammy sent 4.4.4 to TMO and not to us, or at least not yet. We all know how the carriers are. At this point I'd rather not have 4.4.4 and wait for 5.0, but it will be a very long wait, unless I go CM12 when it is stable...

You're using CM-11 for the P607T model of the tablet? I've been looking for months for ROMs but haven't found any that work specifically for the P607T, which is the Tmo variant of the tablet.
Those who have 4.4.4, can you still root with Towelroot?
I am contemplating buying the P607t, which probably will have 4.4.4 by now and would not buy it if there is no root for 4.4.4 that won't trip KNOX. I returned the Wifi version for this exact reason.

I think you are absolutely correct
I just got the 4.4.4 update
Received 4.4.4 update
Update rolled out to my device as well.
I went ahead with the update, since all I really used root for was Titanium Backup and ES File Explorer.
Failed first time (likely because of root)
Removed root (under Cleanup section of super su FULL Cleanup)
Second attempt succeeded.
Towelroot failed to reroot.
If you are dependent on root, don't update until there is a new method found. Looks like towelroot is plugged on this one.

(Q&A) Any major changes in final release of lollipop (India)

Those who are using Indian soak test before and now using official release in India.... Do you notice any changes?
Sent from my XT1068/69 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Soak Testers didn't get the final OTA and will not get it. Reason is, the final OTA rolled out today is the same one soak testers got. They just got it a little early. You can see in the screenshots that everything under About Phone is same in soak test version and final version.
So does this in theory then mean that those of us who installed the captured soak test from the other thread will not need to use any other captures in the future and be able to use the ota update just fine without any chances of bricks etc

I mean we'll be able to download ota's without worries of getting our phones bricked because of it being from soak. I remember reading the other day someone was talking about how if we want to be able to use ota we'd have to use a stable capture first in order to be able to use ota. It seems that won't be an issue though since soak and stable are the same with just different release dates so we shouldn't have to worry about that right? Sorry for being silly here. I'm not exactly an ape man when it comes to tech but I'm not feeling the need to fiddle around with roms and bootloaders on this phone when I shouldn't really need to

Well, it was me who said that the other day. That time the official update hadn't rolled out and we thought it would be a newer system version. But, now that it's released; we now know that it is the exact same OTA, so no problems for future updates either. It's like we never installed soak.

Yea i suspected something like that was going on when I saw that new thread about the stable and people were saying everything's exactly the same but just wanted some sort of confirmation. Now the only thing that I don't know if it'll affect anything in the future is that my build number on 4.4.4 was kxb now it's lxb (unless k stands for kitkat and l for lolipop lol. dunno) but i don't think it would be a problem since the system version has only the numbers changed and everything else is as it was on kitkat. Seems like the indian release works on european xt1068's as well contrary to what I read some people were saying but I guess it depends on some things...

Well that pretty much solved all questions I had regarding lolipop on my moto g. Now the only mystery that remains is if the indian update works just fine when you install it on a eu moto g (well you need to manually install from recovery doe doesn't detect it in the ota screen) why is the eu xt1068's update nowhere to be talked about. All I've seen is india brazil and so on but eu is so silent that even babies can sleep

That´s a mystery for sure!
The only difference between the indian and the european XT1068 is the fact, that the indian version has 16 gb of memory, european model has 8gb.
But there must be something more that differs! In europe even a soaktest is rumored, surveys were sent,so everthing looks like we have to wait in europe for a few more days/weeks.
But why? In another thread I considered that Motorola is afraid of being taken to court or something by european users if something doesn´t work right. European laws are tough. Isn´t that a bit far out?
Or are there any technical differences between these models which are barely known?

Aside from the ram I highly doubt there's any real difference since when I got mine in the first few days of fiddling around it had the hindi, korean and pinyin keyboards which i disabled so I don't think that would be the case....I mean why would most eu phones need these inputs from the get go. As far as laws go I can't really see much reasoning there either since it's a 130-50eu phone so they can't really have much to complain and unless it somehow magically bricks the device I doubt there would be many if any at all issues...Dunno doe. I'm not motorola so i have no idea what's going on through their heads but it's just kinda silly to me considering that everything's running fine on mine at least without any factory resets or anything....could be just me doe. On another note I think one of my little gripes about lollipop is that it doesn't hide the signal bar for my secondary sim when it's inactive and just shows it. Is this just for me or does everyone have that cuz I didn't pay attention to that on screenshots the last few days

The 14th Jan one does have 1032.3105.
EDIT: Looking at a screenshot in that thread, it doesn't have the above mentioned version.
Weird though, I have installed the same version, but using a .zip captured by one soak tester. How could the version be different, when the update is same?

Yes, weird but there is reason. MD5 of old link and new capture matched perfect. Update in link by you and new both are same. Looks like Motorola fooled everyone and rolled same update again.
Anyways! Can anyone share TWRP backup of this version?

ok I saw it wasn't updated on @AFTVnews.com site ( http://www.aftvnews.com/software/ ) but I guess without r/w /cache it isn't as important wonder if we could replay the sw update check and use a pc proxy to push it. I'm sure I'm not thinking of something more advanced than what you already have though so I can stop and await the update patiently like everyone else, and see if you have the custom recovery already. I guess I'm just excited that after all this time the stick is finally software rootable. That hardware method was a little too tight soldering for me on the stick... at least without some other donor device to practice a few times

The software talks to the update server over ssl and sends it encrypted data. Can't be faked.
Just got the update on the firetv stick today. I guess I can kingroot it now, but is there any chance that there will be another root method for these?
Update: used kingroot 4.1 and it said it failed, but after a reboot it was in fact rooted. Next used adb with su command to pm disable dcp and ota

That hardware method was a little too tight soldering for me on the stick... at least without some other donor device to practice a few times

I've been meaning to update that page for some time now. It needs to be completely redone since there are now newer devices and forks due to the dev preview and the voice vs non-voice Fire TV Stick split.
The URLs are no secret. I hope to get around to updating my software page next week. For the time being, here is everything missing from that page for those interested.

FireOS 5.3.1.0 source code released

The source code for FireOS 5.3.1.0 has just been released:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200203720
Fire (5th Generation)
Fire_7inch_LC_5.3.1.0.tar.bz2

Attempting to downgrade to an earlier version will most likely result in bricking your device (now confirmed).
Look like they skip 5.2.1.0.
Unless it a typo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_OS

There has never been a public release of 5.2.x
I'm sure about that. Beta. Turn into Released with a number change.

Yep - not uncommon.
It looks like only the Amazon Fire TV devices had a 5.2.1.0 release:

Went ahead and installed 5.3.1.0 on the 8gb tablet since I don't use it very much. The other one still have the custom ROM.

Did you get it via an OTA update? The binary release page is still on 5.1.4:
Fire (5th Generation) Software Updates

Determine your software version
If you have the latest software update, it should look like this: Your device is running Fire OS 5.1.4.

Know what. You right. Version 5.1.4. I thought it 5.3.1.0. I guest there no ROM yet. Just the source. lol
Kinda new here as I am looking to buy a Kindle Tablet.
When FireOS gets updated, do Amazon put in the latest android security patches? I think Google still releases it for Lollipop.
Reason for this is reading up, to sideload the Playstore you need to disable the OTA, but if the security patch is included then that is something I need to consider.

Ah that is convenient.
So in theory when 5.3.1.0 hits OTA, none of the Google Play Services, framework, Store, should be disabled and delete right if it is already installed?

sure, but Google framework will work better with a custom rom like cm12.1

Keep in mind Google Framework (Services, Store, etc) compatibility is not assured across FireOS updates. Historically this was more of a problem with FireOS v4 which didn't play well with Google components. Even if it does break someone will likely come up with a fix in short order. That said, I fully agree with @sd_shadow: go with a custom rom for the most favorable experience.

How to root a Kindle Kid's Edition that came stock with 5.3.1? I already bricked one following RootJunky's supposed foolproof way to unbrick or downgrade to 5.1.2 to be able to root the device.

What are the chances that a work around will be realeased? Are they at least greater than zero?

Please don't cross post. Annoying finding the same inquiry in multiple threads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ama...pdates-5-1-4-to-5-3-1-0-t3419849/post67865926
Dave and Shadow. Some of the Google Play Store games will crashes on custom ROM's. Wonder 5 Masters works better on FireOS with Google Play Store installed with less crashes. Just pointing this out.

UPDATES

Can anyone tell me what the most current build of Android is for the Moto g5 plus ? Currently it's showing build 7.0 January security patch NPN25 137-33
I'm used to just FastBoot and Nexus/Pixle devices so Motorola is a change for me , does Moto have an image site or somewhere I can download factory Images from ?
Sadly no. You have to wait to get the OTA directly, or for someone to capture a compatible one and post it here. I'm retgb and have exactly the same version as you currently with a January security patch.

Im sure you have already seen this but if not https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/how-to/npn25-137-33-stock-firmware-t3577081
I just got the device so I'm going to spend a few more days learning about it till I jump into flashing but it seems pretty straight forward like NEXUS Devices are .

Yeah sorry I just meant there is no official firmware listing so you're reliant on people posting links here. Also there's a bit of a minefield for us as there isn't one standard device/software channel across the whole world like there is with Nexus devices. I really miss those days, but the Pixel was just too rich for me.

That has been my big question, I'm on retus and with several different versions being posted, will I ruin my modem or make some parts incompatible if I sideload? I am not rooted yet but I'm frustrated being on the same(??) version you are.
