If you have no radio issue and you are not sure how to update, better keep it as it is.
If you want to update, better to update full firmware for your device.
Use Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app > Menu > 'Firmware Browser' to look for the latest firmware for your device.

Sorry, by "radio" I mean "mobile network signal", not "FM radio"
You still can update the stock firmware by flashing it using Odin software.
You can download the stock firmware by open Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app > Menu > 'Firmware Browser'.

Try installing the jb firmware from here, kies never works for me

You sure its stuck? Its seems to take forever, and does halt for a considerable period halfway, but I should complete
Forget about KIES.
Go to http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9300 (link is for the International version), choose ANY ROM you want, or the ROM for your country/operator, and flash it using Odin3.
KIES is evil and I don't know why people insist on using that P.O.S.
But will i have any problems in future if i want to upgrade if i flash it using odin?

I updated yesterday using Kies. Make sure your battery is well charged (70% or more) and let it run. It looked like mine had stopped after downloading the components. After 20 minutes of looking like nothing was happening, the firmware proper started to download.
With all the downloads then flash, it probably took just under 2 hours (not the 5-30 minutes that Kies claims).
Most likely the download servers are just busy.
previously was root with stock rom...(unroot usin those root keeper) and proceed to update JB.
Looks good but root is lost.

is this the only method?

I'm from germany and installed the rom without any problems from here:

There are 29 csc codes in it so I guess you will be fine with that

Boot your device into download mode. If your phone status is official you will be able to get OTA Updates.
I've installed the first firmware from the post. (pre rooted)

[Q] Which galaxy s4 i9505 ROM to chose.

Hello, im trying to reset my phone to stock, and while searching for stock rom it shows AT&T, Verizon versions etc... and nothing else. Where can i find stock rom for international i9505 which isn't bound to specific carrier.
P.S
I was trying to find it in samfirmware website, but there were only country/carrier specific verisons.
There are unbranded firmwares in samfirmware

You can only use that if you are running a stock ROM in the first place. Any type of modification to your device and kies will not recognise your phone. You need no binary count, stock recovery and stock ROM. Basically how was when you first took it out of the box. If you do install latest firmware you may well end up with the new bootloader and the e fuse security enhancement.

[Q] What firmware am I on?

Hi,
I'm currently running jellybean 4.3
AP:N9005XXUBMJ1
CP:N9005XXUBMI6
CSC:N9005OXXBMJ1
I want to update to 4.4.2 Kitkat, but I'm not sure which firmware to download on sammobile site.
How do I check what country my firmware is from?
The firmware doesn't have any carrier branded stuff which I would like to keep.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Cheers
Use your countries unbranded fw

Install 'Phone INFO ★Samsung★' app and you will get all info you need.
- To check what country your firmware is from: under the CSC INFO section.
- To get the right firmware to download on sammobile site: enter the Menu --> Firmware Browser...
Download link in my signature.

Thanks. I just realised that I'm running Australia (which is where I'm from) XSA software. latest version is 4.3.... is it worth using a different countries firmware?
Is it risky?
I have root currently and my KNOX is 0x0 and I'd like to keep it that way.. I want to have 4.4.2 unbranded with root.
Any recommendation on which version I should download? and instructions for root?
does KINGO android root trip the KNOX counter?

Flash the latest UK rom, after it boots pull the battery and wait 20 seconds, then boot into recovery and do a data factory reset and wipe cache and reboot. You should not have a bootloop this way.
is there way to get uk rom download link by Samsung ar sam mobile?

BTU, and also KSA, is just a CSC code and may have no meaning, it's just a memorizable code, like e.g. airport code or country code etc...
BTU is region code for UK, KSA is for Saudi Arabia... You can look up for CSC code using Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app > Menu > 'CSC Lookup' tool.
You can also use 'Firmware Browser' tool in that app to find the BTU stock firmware, just open the menu > 'Firmware Browser', enter BTU in the CSC textbox and tap Go button.
