[Q] What to do with my Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have a few Nexus 7's... One 2012 and 3 2013. I have no use for the 2012 model at the moment and I am trying to find some off the wall use for it. I already use a n7 for my car stereo and the rest for standard tablets. What should I use this 2012 n7 for? I am looking for very non traditional uses. In other words I want to use it for something it was not really intended to be used for that might breathe some life into this extra piece of tech.

Not very non-traditional, but you can mount your N7 in your car and use it as a smart multi-media centre. Check out AutoDroid Rom.

Yep already have one in my dash. Needing something else.

WIFI MOD
do this
i did it to my N7

I think I'm going to use it as a test dummy for modding my 2013 n7.... Like move the rear camera out of the case on a ribbon and install it and the microphones in my dash. That way I can do video and hands free calls via hangouts.

Brando Car Handsfree Kit Experience

Hello, does any one has some experience with the Brando Car Handsfree Kit ?
Is the charger powerfull enough?
Does it mount good in the car?
Here is a link:
http://shop.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=02680&dept_id=039&cat_id=0763
i have one like this it was broken after few months from the sun and the headphone/radio exit stoped working
I've tried at least 4 units like this one, and they always suck.
The only brando handsfree kit that I could see working well is to have one sitting in the passenger seat.

Have you actaully tried this unit - or just ones LIKE it?
Reason I ask is I am after one for my Diamond and the Diamond Brando Handsfree kit which appears identical but for the cradle itslef has good reviews from people using it.
So while your post puts me off somewhat - it appears you have not actually used this one. Is that correct? In which case I will take what you say with a grain of Salt.
Can anyone else who is actually using this give some feedback please.

External Keyboard

If anyone is looking for an external keyboard for the Nexus 10 I just got a Logitech K400.
I had seen a year old thread (4.3?) that said you'd need a different kernel but it could be made to work. However it works with the KOT49H kernel.
This is NOT a bluetooth keyboard - at least it is not recognized as a bluetooth device. You need to use the included unifying adapter and an OTG cable!
But with this setup everything works remarkably well. Specifically this is a 14" keyboard that you can actually type on - for real. The trackpad works flawlessly, complete with multitouch scrolling.
All the dedicated keys work also! Not the function keys that have no equivalent in Android. But Home, play, lock, power on/off, volume, search etc.
This is a very cool device well worth the $25 Amazon charged for it. It is now practical to actually use AIDE.
Sounds very interesting. How bout a picture of it connected to the tab with your OTG cable?

My nexus 9 is basically a cheap laptop!!

Here is my setup: Android nougat stable, exkernel with cpu clocked to 2499 and gpu at 918. Got the Taskbar app, freeform window mode in enabled, a chromecast (Though I might get a mhl cabable). Got an otg cable along with a usb hub and mouse/keyboard in the mail rn. Tv is 32" 1080p. Let me just say second screen completely blows andromium or any other cast app I've tried out of the water. There is a slight lag but it's surprisingly really low. Check out the photo I took

You just saved me from wasting my money. I just assumed it would be supported because for it not to be is the most lazy ridiculous crap I've encountered from a Google product. Now I'm disappointed
@tdct12 I highly recommend you try underclocking it(cpu). The performance is actually better for me, even in benchmarks. Try it!

Anyone have the Carlaoer F-Z-701TA?

I've been looking into picking up an android headunit for my WRX and I cannot justify buying a $400+ Android auto headunit. It's just too expensive. I found the Carlaoer F-Z-701TA(https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32946430734.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.3ad33c003kBuQF&mp=1) on Aliexpress and have been really keen on getting it for it's cheap price point of $80, and it's ability to run apps. I know that since it's cheap, there may be some problems, but the reviews seem promising. I don't care for music too much as the OEM headunit is garbage anyways. What I really care for is the ability to run Torque to view information about my car while driving. It helps me to monitor my car while on the track or even on the streets to make sure everything is in good working condition. Other than that, the ability to run Spotify + Waze is another nice to have.
Yes, I could use my Cobb AccessPort (It's a datalogging/tuner tool) or use Torque on my Phone, but it's extra things that could go flying in the car on the track.
Has anyone had long term experience with the Carlaoer F-Z-701TA? Any thoughts? Should I avoid it and go for something else?

Joying Head Units Bluetooth workaround?

Sorry to bother you guys but figured I have tried two of the resident experts on this type of stuff with no luck, and I apologize that I am not very knowledgeable on this stuff. I totally redid my 84 Monte Carlo SS both outside and now finishing up the inside of it. While doing so I came up with the idea of having a dedicated head unit run a backup camera, air ride controls, and other accessory type of stuff. While having a second unit run the stereo and front facing DVR, I thought I was all set because it had Bluetooth and I avoided the issue of having my phone run bluetooth stereo on one while the other would be able to bluetooth for the air ride.
What I currently have is these two units, JY-UOS02N4PX5S and UK-JY-UOS01P4V. The UK-JY-UOS01P4V is the unit I was hoping to run the Ridetech air ride app on to control the air ride. But I can change how I have the two setup if it would make a difference, but think they are pretty much the same specs except that the UK-JY-UOS01P4V has fast boot which is part of the reason for choosing to run it on the accessory stuff. Thanks for your time and sorry for creating another thread but have searched through and not found anything related to my specific units. Here is a pic of the basic setup of them to mimic modern cars to a point.
