Cant get rom to flash - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay guys im going to try and give every bit of information I can so its easier to understand,
IM running KK, 4.4.2 my device is SM900V
what im trying to do is flash either alliance build 1 , or jasmine roms
Ive rooted my note 3 through towel root.
ive then downloaded busy box,
then downloaded safe strap,
and super su off of here.
I install a custom recovery with safe strap. Wipe data and davik cache,
and then I install the custom ROM on my stock root slot ( as was said to do on both rom builds)
Every single time I do this, I get the installed correctly after every thing is said and done and I go to reboot my phone and it boots up to the safe strap recover screen, and I select continue and Boom , Nothing just a black screen. So sense the only thing I can to is get into download mode I Reflash the stock firmware and just start over. the first day I thought it was just alliance rom, but after 2 days of continuously soft-bricking my phone I have come to understand its my doing and not any of the roms faults, please if you can help me get my device flashed!
( forgot to mention when im installing safe strap, im installing the NORMAL way)

Those ROM's require the NC2 kernel. You need to grab this and after you flash the ROM, while IN SafeStrap, go to REBOOT then DOWNLOAD mode and Odin the kernel and you will be solid. :good:

Reflashing back to Stock after loading Jelly Bean Rom into Stock, have some questions

Okay, so I am getting ready to reflash back to stock , I have downloaded the deodexed and rooted MJ7 ( I also have the vanilla stock version as well ) rom - I also have the PIT file , Odin, Kingo, etc ( previously rooted with De La Vega ). The reason I am doing this is because I accidentally installed the Jelly Beans Rom over the stock partition in SS, and we all know about dirty flash...
I have some questions before I do this:
Do I need to unroot my device or uninstall safe strap or anything prior to re-flash?
There is a TWRP posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2518704
"If using Twrp or Cwm flash this kernel its needed for dev editions: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23212708291676094"
Do I need this if I am installing the Rooted MJ7?
Is it safe to load the rooted MJ7 as stock, or should I load the stock, root, safe strap and install it in a different slot?
I should assume that I will loose EVERYTHING that I haven't already backed up, correct?
I have done a lot of research and digging , but there is a lot of noise, assumptions and lingo that can be hard to parse through here on XDA, is the process as follows?
Boot device into Odin mode
Load the ROM and TWRP file into ODIN and flash
Root using Kingo
Do this thing with SU.zip which I don't quite understand , I purchased the full version of SU so is this still necessary or can I just re-download SU and use that version?
Install SS
Boot into SS , create a ROM slot , activate it, install ROM.
Then go back through and re-set up and re download everything
Thanks for reading any advice, help , etc would be great!
*Edit - it was the PIT file not TWRP , strike through to maintain relevance. It also appears I can only flash the deodexed stock rom into a rom slot or flash over stock maybe.
Just for documentation purposes , hopefully it helps a noob or two.
I just used Odin and re loaded the stock MJ7 - Restart was fine, have Android is upgrading screen and it is Optimizing apps.
I did NOT get the Safe Strap boot screen, nor did I get the Jelly Beans ROM splash screen, *HOWEVER* all apps and customizations appeared to stay - no data loss ( your results may vary, back up anyway before trying this! )
Root Checker Basic results - Sorry! This device does not have proper root access.
Kingo - Root successful
Xprivacy notifications showing up in notification bar
Root Checker Basic results - Success
Installed SS 3.65 ( current version as of 11/13 ), installed recovery, rebooted into recovery was a success.
Created ROM slot on slot 1 , installed HyperDrive
Installed Hyperdrive , cleared Dvalik and Cache
Rebooted, loaded into HD. All new "Stock" look.
Time to download Nova , Swiftkey, Zooper , UCCW , etc.
Hopefully this helps someone out there, or if I messed up then someone can enlighten me.

[Q] may have bricked my nc1

Ok so I had a nc1.. used towel root,rf, and safe strap.made a backup and tried flashing gravitron... now I'm in a nonstop bootloop or I'm at the warning custom o's found.... can any one tell me where to start to fix? Currently downloading Odin to try and flash a stock image if it has?

Do you still get the Safestrap splash screen on boot? If so you can just restore or reflash. Otherwise, you'll need to use the NB1 Odin and take the NC1 OTA.
Before you flash again, make sure you wipe in Safestrap (all but external SD) and check your ROM. Make sure it doesn't need an updater-script in the All Things MK2 & NB1 thread and for gravitron specifically download the Safestrap version of it.

[Q] Hello * I might have Bricked my phone ?

I just picked up a note 3...
Now being somewhat New to roms and stuff...
I have been following * GALAXY NOTE 3 ROOT * guy on you tube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQbTF7yTJSk <---------------------
I wanted to install a custom rom called Hyperdrive... I am very good at following instructions.
I rooted my phone correctly and now get the Unlock Icon .
I installed The hyperdrive.apk.zip to my Sdcard on the phone...
I installed Safestrap.. Backed up my stock rom
I watched the videos and did every step I was told to and it all worked perfectly.
But this is where I had the issue...after creating a Custom rom slot-1
I clicked install, selected the new Kitkat Hyperdirve zip on there site.
Installed took about 2 mins. Backed out of Safestrap correctly after it said installed complete.
reboot/system ...
Phone reboots .. Shows Samsung galaxie unlock root screen .. then just gos to a black screen of death.
cant tell if the phone is on or not.. have to pull the battery and restart in Up arrow ... middle button and power mode to get back in to stock system recovery...
Can someone please help me get this rom working on my system.. I just wanted to get rid of bloat ware and speed up my phone and customize it to my everyday needs .
my phone is a verizon note 3 Updated with 4.4.2 stock
I only want this rom installed to play it safe.. and please dont try to sell me a different rom or set up thanks guys n gals !

In order to run a 4.4 rom you need to flash the NC2 kernel via Odin. The files and instructions can be found here. Just substitute the Hyperdrive rom or whatever 4.4 based rom you've chosen in the corresponding steps in the instructions. Also you only need to do this once unless you reset the device via Odin, the kernel will stick so flashing a different rom won't be as complicated.
Also it is recommended to use only the Stock slot in Safestrap because of battery/data drain issues. Just make sure to wipe before installing so everything installs correctly.

Just follow the steps I sent you in the pm. No need to use the stock deodex rom.
Most custom roms will be deodex, all this means is that an app is one part. Normal an odex rom an app will be two parts, and located in two separate locations in memory, it helps which load times under certain demands but hinders customization.
As for the stock slot it is okay to wipe, and if you made a backup you can wipe and restore it. If you didn't make a backup you can always download a stock rom. Just try to think of your original stock rom is exactly that, A Rom, nothing more nothing less.

I think I missed the juice of the fix but can you help me? I had the same issue as him, but ran what I thought would fix it but I just see the boot screen continousely since doing ODIN N900v_NC2_FW_Updated.tar.md5
Since doing this, I lost my safestrap and just see those colored balls loading as it looks like a bootloop

If you've lost Safestrap you will need to reset your device via Odin and start over. Pulling the battery will get you oit of the bootloop, then boot into download mode (volume down + home + power button).
On your computer you need to open Odin and then connect your phone to your computer. Load the stock tar file found here in the AP slot. Give Odin a couple minutes to load the process and once the Start button is available click it and let Odin run. It will restart your device when it is finished. Just a heads up, if you are currently on NC4 you must use that firmware you can not go backwards.
From this point you will need to reroot, install busybox and Safestrap again. From there follow the instructions found here to get on the NC2 kernel.
If you followed all these steps correctly you can now flash any 4.4 based rom for the retail Note 3.
it works!

Enjoy.

I need help with installing the Alliance ROM PLEASE.

EDIT: I have successfully installed the Alliance ROM. Here's how i did it.
Prerequisites:
Your phone at at least 50% battery
A charge cable
MicroSD card that you can plug into your computer
Odin 3.09
SafeStrap, version 3.75 APK on your MicroSD card
Alliance ROM on your MicroSD card
NCG tar.md5 (the big file, not the kernel)
I started off on a rooted 5.0 VZW Galaxy S5. After some confusion, I downgraded to NCG (4.4.2) using Odin. After doing that, I went to Towelroot, got the APK, rooted, downloaded SuperSU from the play store (I had to sign into google at this point), installed it's binaries (NORMALLY! Don't choose the TWRP method), rebooted when it asked me to. From there, I installed BusyBox from the play store and installed it within the app. Then I installed Safestrap (version 3.75), which I had on my MicroSD card. I used the app My Files to navigate to my MicroSD and installed the APK. Then I installed it within the app, and when the "reboot to recovery" button worked, I rebooted into SafeStrap recovery mode. At this point, the Alliance ROM zip file should ALREADY BE ON YOUR MICROSD CARD, WHICH SHOULD BE IN YOUR PHONE. Now, you're going to press the INSTALL button to the top right in Safestrap recovery, and you're going to navigate to your MicroSD card. It might be already opened to that. Then you're gonna select the Alliance ROM and flash it. After it successfully flashes, reboot into download mode (if for some reason you aren't able to do it immediately, you get into download mode by holding volume down, home button, and power button at the same time). Now, using Odin, you're gonna flash the firmware that the instructions in the Alliance thread tells you to (here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver.../rom-alliancerom-build-3-rom-control-t2818632). If everything works, it's gonna take a couple of minutes, optimize apps, and boot.
Huge thanks to Beans and his team for creating the Alliance mod, and huge thanks to Tulsadiver for helping me get through the process during my confusion.
Original thread below
Hi. I'll cut to the chase. I was an idiot and thought I could just flash the Alliance ROM from my SD card, but my phone is currently a factory restored 5.0. So, after unsuccessfully flashing Alliance ROM, I thought, well, I probably need to be on 4.4.2 to do this. So, what I'm wondering is, do I need to go back down to 4.4.2 to install Alliance ROM? And do I need Safestrap recovery to do it, or can I do it from stock recovery (home button+volUp+Power)? I did a lot of digging in the Alliance ROM post and there were no posts regarding my problem/question, probably because they're all experienced and I'm not (this is my first time trying to flash a custom ROM).
It SOUNDS like I need to flash a full stock tar using Odin, is that correct? Once I do that, I would be on stock wiped 4.4.2, I assume. From there, could I flash the Alliance ROM and continue with the instructions? Or do I need to root first and get safestrap and all that crap? I feel like Beans was really vague with his instructions on installing ROMs, but whatever. Please help though, I'm kind of stuck in the middle of this with a softbricked phone.
Thank you so much in advance, I appreciate it.
~isra
EDIT: Also, I was on ROOTED 5.0 Lollipop just before this. I just got so sick of lollipop, I was ready for something different. So here we are. To confirm, my phone is the standard retail SM-G900VZW model.
EDIT2: Apparently App Ops and SuperSU survived the wipe and, after downloading Root Checker, I can confirm that I'm still rooted... Huh.

Wait, so I don't need to downgrade my phone? Keep in mind I'm on stock rooted 5.0, which just got factory reset so I got nothing except for the root. Also, what full firmware odin tar are you referring to? NE9? This one: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23610159112652201
Or this one: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712472727
I'm getting these links from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...ment/stock-collection-kernels-modems-t2842069

Ok, so I don't need to downgrade to install the ROM. Got it. Thank you. Is there anything else I should know?
Not that I know of. ROM installations are different so always refer to their installation instructions. Some will say to flash the firmware first. The op knows best. Alliance NE9 says to do a full wipe (everything but SD card). Install the ROM, reboot to download mode ( don't hit reboot system). Once in download mode, flash the firmware tar and let your phone reboot.

So, I installed Safestrap and did all that, but when I press the reboot into recovery button, it just reboots the phone normally. It doesn't go into safestrap recovery. Am I supposed to hold some buttons or something?
Did safestrap ask for SuperSU permissions? Did you install busy box? You can't just download the app.

Yes, I've installed BusyBox and given SS root permissions. I installed the APK 3.75 Safestrap that I used to get into SS recovery when I was getting to rooted 5.0 a while back, so I know that the APK isn't corrupt or anything like that.
I forgot. You are on lollipop. You need to flash the NE9 kernel first ( via Odin). You already have safestrap but it doesn't work on lollipop. After you flash the NE9 kernel you will have the option to boot into recovery. Have alliance on your SD card ready to install.

It booted into stock recovery mode after odin successfully flashed NE9. Now do I install the ROM from stock recovery, or do I boot the phone and get to Safestrap to install the ROM from Safestrap recovery? I am currently in recovery mode.
You must not have had safestrap on your phone after all. Can you get back to download mode? You probably need to flash your lollipop kernel to get back to lollipop.

I definitely had safestrap. Though, here's something: Everyone talks about a menu that pops up during boot that allows you to enter either safestrap recovery, or boot, and I've never had/seen that menu, even when I was rooting 5.0. Yes, my BusyBox worked and was properly installed, and yes, I had Safestrap recovery installed.
I just tried rebooting and it after sitting at the first screen for a while, it rebooted quickly and went back into recovery mode. What if I try installing Alliance from recovery mode? Will it work?

I've never been on stock recovery before. I think it has to be a custom recovery. You might need to pull your battery and let it set for a bit and see if you can get into download mode.

I can get into download mode perfectly fine. I'm going to kernel back to 5.0 then...
But what do I do now? Should I downgrade to 4.4.2 with the stock firmware once I successfully boot 5.0?
EDIT: Yup, booted 5.0 perfectly fine. Now what? Downgrade to 4.4.2 and flash the NE9 Kernel?
Proof that Safestrap is on my phone:

safestrap....unable to mount /system...potential brick??

have rooted s5 on 4.4.4 nk2. Have been trying to install custom roms via safestrap. Apparently i am missing a step. I wipe data, try to install twi5ted Lollipop on custom rom slot....blank screen for over 30 min after reboot, phone gets real hot, take battery out. Try to install on stock rom slot, reboot then get stuck in boot loop and keeps booting into system recovery. I then saw through my hours of searching to format instead of wipe....so i format then try to install, get stuck again, take battery out, get back to safestrap dash now when i try to wipe/format/or even restore my backup it says unable to mount system. When i click reboot system it says no OS installed. After reboot, my custom slot gets erased.
I was about to try an odin flash back to stock but some how was able to get my phone back to a system restore. Why can i not get anything installed? Do i have to have odin to do a custom rom install?????? i know every rom is different but wtf. I have seen multiple videos and threads of people flashing zip via safestrap and rebooting into new rom without flashing kernals via odin or safestrap after rom install.
Also...my phone will not let me download zip files (ex. cm12.1) says unable to create download folder....how close to F'in my phone up am i? I have successfully rooted all phones in the past...s5 is giving me hell!
I just tried installing rom after format, then flash nk2 kernel from odin, still gives boot loop....ive tried everything i have found..never this much problem with custom rom..
When you try to install twisted it needs lollipop firmware which is flashed on odin, and based on your statement it says you're on NK2, a kitkat firmware. Try flashing a stock ncg tar and rerouting, downloading apps, etc. on the phone to see if that works. Also, I noticed you mentioned a cm 12.1 zip not downloading which, while unrelated to your current problem, will cause a bootloop when flashed due to the locked bootloader on the S5, so it isn't a smart idea to even attempt an install.

thanks, i will try fresh from start ncg. so you have to be on the current kernel that you are flashing a rom for, whether its CM, Twi5ted, Alliance...etc i need to be on rooted 5.0 kernel then flash rom via safestrap?
i was having problems downloading from internet on phone, not downloading rom if thats what you thought i meant. I just tried installing zip for CM 12 via safestrap and got same issue. Phone reboots, goes to black screen and eventually heats up like crazy. .... I just noticed, after my restore ...again... it says safestrap disabled in red on the boot screen, why is that? it says installed and tried reinstalling.
FIXED
So i flashed ncg from odin on the messed up phone and got messed up worse. Ended up getting stuck on first boot image of samsung android s5 boot screen. Finally found original stock firmare file and used odin to complete install stock os and got rid of root. Now back to normal... luckily i figured it out my self! thanks to the 100's who viewed and didnt help and thanks to mrjiggywiggy for giving me some input to help out!
