[Q] Droid RAZR M xt907 Cyanogenmod Installer? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

after hard bricking my old phone, and killing it i found this suerdooper phone for only 75e, because i am scare a bit to flash this phone i was thinking to use the Cyanogenmod Installer and install the lates Cyanogenmod.
does anybody tried this method on razor m? does the phone get reconized by the installer?
thanks
cheers

No, you need to install it the way described on the CM page, just replace the recovery with this one (6.0.4.9), as the old 6.0.4.4 is for the JB bootloader.

ok i am i noob but isnt this a recovery img? shouldnt i have stock KK on my phone before using this recovery img?
dont forget i am a noob dont use fancy words
cheers m8

Um, I'm saying that you should use CM11 for JB BL (msm8960_jbbl) instead of the version for KK BL (you don't need to understand this thoroughly) if you want to avoid WiFi and GPS hassle. If you haven't upgraded to stock KitKat yet, good for you - might as well just follow the CM page guide without replacing recovery.

[Q] Root and unlocked BL! Now what ROM?

First need to shout out the towelroot method for root and BL unlock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157
SO easy and worked. Love it
Now that I have root AND unlocked BL, will be grabbing me some TWRP, backing up stock and trying some ROMs.
Question is: which one? I've read on some posts that only 1 or 2 ROMs work with KK-based phones. Is this accurate? I believe one post I read said only CM11 works, and its very laggy.
So which to grab? Do all KK ROMs under the development page work after the towelroot exploit? CM11, CarbonRom, Google Play Edition etc? Also, which has best, most reliable native wifi tether working? Any other big bugs among the ROMs that actually work?
You can still use the ones that don't support the new bootloader and kernel by downgrading to jb 4.1.2 since your now bootloader unlocked

Thanks guys. Yeah I know I can downgrade but happy with KK changes, esp full screen over soft keys.
Will look into kitstalk thx. Yeah seems CM11 has good results. Either of these have native WiFi tether working?

You can use the new or older roms with unlocked bootloader just now you need to pay attention to what bootloader + kernel your on. The test builds of cm11 coming out won't work on the old bootloader + Kernel and the older ones won't work with the new kk bootloader + kernel

Just to clarify I am using the Droid Razr M (xt907). I had already taken the ota for 4.4.2 before i used towelroot. I have so far only got one ROM from @dhacker29 to boot. Its a cm11 from him. I can't figure out exactly which ROMs to flash. Is it the ones listed for the moto_msm 8960 or the ones listed for KK???

So I'm not used to looking for BL/kernel compatability usually I don't see this in the OP for a ROM, typically only see android flavor it based on, "JB" or "kk", which I thought would dictate whether a ROM would work on a device. Guess we need to look in the post for BL/kernel version (both which get updated during an OTA update?)
Like I said CM11 was the only one I knew of that for sure worked post-towelroot, that's why I was looking to see if others knew which other ROMs worked as well.
I know we can check kernel version in setting, if kernel matches a ROM then were bound to have the BL that matches as well, correct?

Only ones listed for KK will work for you now since your on the 4.4.2 ota however if you downgrade via fxz to 4.1.2 then you'll able to run the msm 8960 builds currently there are more choices once downgraded.

[Q] xt907 / cm11 msm8960 m10 snapshot wifi

Okay, This is my second post...Again, sorry if it's in the wrong area.
Super excited, Got CM11 flashed today. Worked on it the best way, at work. Problem arises when I got home. Having wifi connection issues.
I read about this problem before, cannot find the post. The problem is not ALL wifi, only my access points. Both wifi routers (wired) work fine. I do however, have two access points that I use more often than any other situation. Neither of which will connect. Both are being recognized, and get to "connecting..." for about half a second. Both of which worked perfectly on my 4.4.2.
I'm running on the snapshot of the msm8960 20140916, twrp recovery 2.7.1, kernel 3.4.103, xt907
Mobile data works fine, but shows up LTE only, seems like the connection is still 4G however.
Any advice?
Thanks for any input!
My advice? Downgrade to JB BL and use CM11 JB BL for the time being.

well, i already had kit kat, 4.4.2, aren't there extra steps to downgrading? just wondering.
thanks
EDIT: 09-25
Something tells me, this must be an issue between this particular build of CM and my access point. I'm wondering what the differences are in the way this build has configured the wifi, and the way it is while stock on xt907. (since i have used the recommended msm8960)
Based on some people's comments before, wifi hasn't been an issue. It's not technically all wifi giving me a problem, just any access point.
Sorry, thinking out loud here, but maybe someone will hear my call for help and point me in the right direction lol.

[Q] RazrM Device Type Compatibility

I wanted to try out Slim Rom, and the official supported devices for Slim include "moto_msm8960
(unified xt925 and xt926)". Is it likely that installing this Rom would brick the xt907? or is it likely that it would work just fine? Please let me know your educated guess, if you're not 100% sure. Thanks in advance.
It says it's a "unified" build so it should work with all moto_msm8960 family devices, including our M.
Problem is, you gotta know whether this ROM is for JB Bootloader or KK Bootloader. I checked the SlimKat thread in Droid RAZR HD section and they say it's for KK BL, at least for the latest builds, so you'll also have to be on KK BL to even try it.
And as always, do a nandroid backup before even attempting!

endless boot
I tried two different nightlies and the phone will not boot. It just goes to the CM boot screen forever.
I just upgraded to the KK bootloader and this is the first ROM I've tried since then so hopefully I didn't do something else wrong.
I had to modify the scripts because I got an error saying the ROM was for a different phone.
help?
Nightly of jan07th is flashing fine and i am using it ..
Tried flashing jan12th and jan13th and both got stuck at the boot logo ..
Then tried jan15th built and that too got stuck but this time at the boot animation screen ..
Now i am back on jan07th ..
Heard jan14th is flashing fine, will try and update ..

xt901 upgrade to KK bootloader?
I am using a Motorola Electrify M (xt901) on US Cellular.. It is basically the same as the RAZR M (xt907) from Verison. I am able to flash any ROMS designed for xt907 successfully. But my xt901 is on the JB Bootloader. Anyone successfully upgraded to KK boatloader on this phone. The Lollipop builds using JBBL are just starting to appear, but I am having trouble finding them. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or know how I can update to KKBL, so I can use the official CM12 releases?

CM12 JBBL for xt901
Thanks for the link.
Is there a link where I can download nightlies, or just the one ROM linked from dhackers twitter account?
I found some Lollipop on JBBL builds on Vanir.co for the xt901 (actually unified msm8960 builds),
but touch screen does not seem to work for me, so I can flash and boot OK, but touch screen does nothing.

As far as I know the only ones that work are dhacker29's and the ones from Chinese dev Mijuu. Both are unofficial status and have some bugs that prevent them from going nightly. That's what you get for owning a JBBL device...
Well, at least dhacker indeed said that after SELinux is resolved there will be a possibility for JBBL to go nightly, so stay tuned.

Stable Enough for a Daily Driver?
I was trying to decipher through the comments whether or not this ROM is functional enough to bring someone through an average day, but I couldn't find a definitive bugs list or anything. Some people are saying that there are some minor bugs but most of them sound pretty obscure so that has me thinking that I'll be fine but I was just wondering if someone could reassure me. I'm pretty literate with this kind of stuff, I'm just wondering if any major features are down like wifi, phone, SMS, MMS, camera, normal stuff. (as of 2/15/15 or afterwards)
Thanks
All major functions work. There is some battery drain reported and I have had issues with using Bluetooth while on wifi (stays connected but data stops working)

and how can I tell if I have the jelly bean or kitkat boot loader? I've been looking everywhere on how to figure it out
f2fs support?
I've read that the f2fs filesystem is faster than ext4 in most cases, and on TWRP there is an option to switch to f2fs. But does the ROM support it?
Has anybody tried encryption with CM12? Any problems?
Has anybody successfully installed the Motorola camera(the one from Moto G/X where you touch the screen anywhere to take photo)? I was using it on AOSPA kitkat.

[Q] Best ROM upgrade for 98.15.66

Hello,
My wife has RAZR M running stock and rooted 98.15.66 rom. Bootloader was never unlocked but I think it's still possible with this version of rom. am I right? Last time I was doing something with her phone was almost 2 years ago and I'm more samsung guy so need some directions here She loves this phone and doesn't want to get anything new. Phone is getting to run slower so it needs cleanup. Is it worth to upgrade it to KK rom or just do factory restore and set it up from scratch on this 4.1.2 rom? Any major bugs on stock KK rom? CM12 has too much bugs as of now for her. What about CM11, is there fully functional and bugs free version for RAZR M available?
.66 is indeed unlockable right away, but just so you could experience stock KitKat and see if it's more fitting, simply upgrade to 183.46.10 (ATTENTION: not .15!!!) and unlock the bootloader there. Guides are there in the General section. Note that you will lose data and internal storage contents, so back up properly.
After that if you feel uncomfortable with KitKat, you can freely downgrade to Jelly Bean whenever you prefer.
Haven't met any serious bugs even in CM12, let alone CM11. Don't know what kind of deal-breaking bug you're talking about.

According to Strife89 post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58531079&postcount=80 there are couple of bugs that I know my wife is not gonna like for example microphone level and able hear own voice when using headphones.
Do you think it's better to unlock bootloader before upgrading to KK or it's doesn't matter? Thanks.

I would suggest that you unlock the bootloader now before you upgrade.

Unlock unlock unlock. It worth the candle. I think your wife will be happy with cleaned up 4.1.2 or 4.4.2. Last one is more stylish, and comfortable in use, as for me.
OK is that correct order to get it upgraded?
1. Unlock boot loader using apk or Motopocalypse from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-razr-m/general/guide-faq-how-to-root-boot-unlock-t2869432
2. Flash KK firmware using RSD Lite but I'm not sure which image from this: http://www.drdevs.com/devs/FXZ-files/XT907 (Droid RAZR M)/ website is safe to use. Can I use latest one 20.62-15.1 after unlocking boot loader or do I have to stay stay with 20.62-10?
3. Flash TWRP from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776515
4. FLash SuperSU from recovery
Is that correct way to handle it?
