[Q] G2 goes black after tried to update using LG Flash tool - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a serious problem with my LG G2 D802 which I could not solve: I used the new LG Flash Tool 2014 , everything was going just fine till I received an error recovery failed, I disconnected the USB cable by mistake from my G2 and afterward I saw that it was in the middle of flashing process (49% was completed). I turned it off and tried to reach download mode again and nothing!, I'm receiving the "LG" logo and nothing- the screen goes black (it is still on).
I tried also to connect my phone to the computer- I received a list of 13 "new" local disks "H" to "T", only "H" disk is available and it's showing "image" folder with list of files.
I cannot reach "download mode", nothing is working!
I hope anyone can help me.
Itried pressing power and volume button down together and aa lot more don't know how to slove.

@sandeep1421 Hi, you can still fix your phone using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
But, Read everything carefully, Download the right files for your phone and do everything good, if not then you could hardbrick your phone if you forgot/didnt flashed an file.
So goodluck :good:
P.S. Ubuntu is recommended for this guide.

I just want to ask, actually i am using LG G2 D802, which is international version, so hope these files are for my phone. How to stop the pop up "unable to mount..." error messages , in ubuntu.

Excellent tutorial! Thank you! Phone is working again
You can stop the "unable to mount..." error messages from popping up by disabling
the automount feature of Ubuntu.
"To enable or disable automount open a terminal and type dconf-editor followed by the [Enter] key.
Browse to org.gnome.desktop.media-handling."

[Q] Hard Brick D800 - Please Help! At a loss

Any help is appreciated! First some background:
Flashed device to stock using KK 4.4 version d80020c following steps found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476. Successfully rooted using directions (and ioroot25) found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKuedInhdjU&noredirect=1.
Here's where I got into trouble...Downloaded TWRP 2.7 recovery img and flashed via Flashify. Since this step, my D800 has the exact same symptoms found on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142.
- No download mode (tried many times)
- No recovery (tried many times also)
- Secure booting error
- LG detected as qhsusb_bulk in device manager
- Device is recognized as 15 different drives, one of which contains a folder named image with 79 different files being .B0X files and Microsoft Access Add-in Data files
- Upon restarting, LG logo with secure booting error, then the screen goes black while your phone is still on
I've followed the steps in the thread that matches my G2's symptoms, run ubuntu 13.1 in VM, apply usb filters for my device which is then recognized as either LG Electonics Inc. QHUSB_BULK or Unknown Device 05C6:9006 when running in VM.
Upon running command ls /dev/sd* in VM Ubuntu Terminal, all that is returned is /dev/sda /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda5 which are the partitions for Ubuntu, no LG.
I've tried to download and update the Qualcomm drivers, device manager tells me that the drivers were recognized, but cannot be installed and do not pass the hash check (Note: PC is running Windows 8.1).
I've spent over 12 hours on this trying to fix this problem, researched and searched everywhere. If I could get ubuntu to recognize the device, I would be able to continue on with the instructions on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142.
Links for windows 8 qualcomm drivers, suggestions on how to get the device recognized in ubuntu vm, experiences from others in similar situation, or any with experience working with LG to get a repair done if I'm SOL (as in eMMC is fried) would be so helpful right now.
Thank you all!
After flashing recovery did you flash a patched kernel to boot stock kk?
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk
I had the same, also with a lot of drives etc.
Screen is black but low backlighted?
Then try with pluged USB Cabel in Phone, hold Power button until screen is realy off, then hold the Power Up Button and plug Cabel into PC.
So I got download mode after I tryed many times
I had problems a few weeks ago getting mine to go into Download mode... turned out that the cable I was using was great for charging, but sucked for everything else. Once I switched to a different cable things worked fine and I was able to load D80010c on the device.
I was running D80020c this morning (with the D80010c boot.img to have a custom recovery) and decided to do an update. Since you can't load D80020k if you have the older bootloader I went all the way back to D80010c, updated to D80010o, D80010q, D80020c and finally D80020k. I was able to root that using IOroot and have restored everything back onto my phone.

Thanks so much for the responses! I've tried endlessly to get the device into download mode, and tried a new cable to no avail. Any other suggestions?
The URL you've linked to will help you solve your problem.
So once you power off your device, hold volume down and power till the lg logo shows, then release shortly and hold them again together till the white window with "factory reset appears", you should notice a text behind the white screen it's fine. So right now when you think it's gonna enter recovery mode the screen is gray(not black), now you connect your device to your ubuntu or whichever linux. You will notice the screen repeatelly blinking when linux is trying to automount the partitions. Figure out which device it is according to the messages it throws. (sdc, sdb, sdX)
This way you should proceed according to the instructions on the thread you linked.
d800 partitions are here
Still no luck

Thanks for your advice.
I got the white screen asking whether or not I want to perform a factory reset. If I choose No, the phone sends me right to the LG Logo with the error screen. If I choose Yes, it does the same thing. If I plug my phone into my computer while on the white screen asking if I want to perform a factory reset, the device isn't recognized and the PC doesn't see it as plugged in or mounted. I'm not sure what you mean by the timing of when I should try to plug in my device. Thanks again for all your help.

As soon as in the background of the white menu (factory reset) the secure boot appear plug it in. I'm not sure how much usb filter helps you(maybe it does) but try installing ubuntu over WUBI installer so your win remains. Or at least try ubuntu from usb stick. So you can know for sure if it's working.
Hi Sneaky E. I have the same issue you have. I'll be following your thread. If I figure anything out I'll let you know. I am also having an issue getting mine to charge now. Have you tried downgrading your TWRP?

I've tried all USB ports, 2.0 and 3.0. I feel like if I can get past this there should be no reason linux can't see the partitions in the phone. Please Help!!!
Ok so thank you for your help so far. I was able to install Linux on a USB drive and ran the commands and pushed appropriate files from there. I pushed all files including recover.img but the phone will not boot into recovery. Please help!
Thank you!

you are not alone dude. i had the same issue since sunday and i have spent almost 46 hours already trying to restore my LG G2 F320S korean model.
i followed that instruction in linux, everything went well but then I ended up with a phone not going past the LG logo. the screen no longer dims like how it used to with the secure boot fail error. again, it stucked at the LG logo and thats it.
pressing the 3 buttons though for 5 seconds shows a white screen with 3 options and a bar code under.
but all of these options will just take me back to the LG logo.
I went to a phone technician today, and they said the doing a JTAG fix is the only way to resolve the problem because after trying to fix it with linux, it is no longer identified by my PC.
what are your solutions so far?
anyways before this issue came up, i tried to flash TWRP using flashify, it failed. then went back up. tried to update the OS via OTA then thats it.
i home someone could help us out.

Removing USB connection while flashing

Hi all,
I have a serious problem with my G2 which I could not solve: I used the new LG Flash Tool 2014 with stock KDZ file, everything was going just fine till I received an error message that LG server is not available, I disconnected the USB cable by mistake from my G2 and afterward I saw that it was in the middle of flashing process (12% was completed). I hope this is not the end for my G2..
please help me
Thank you so much!
If you could receive all those hard disks then you could maybe fix it with linux/ubuntu if you have it. Search for guides to cOpy the neccesary stuff bacK like the bootloader. I can't really help you atm as i am too sleepy.

Thank you for your reply. I found this on the sticky threads: "[FIX] NO Recovery mode, No download mode, after OTA on rooted LG G2".
I installed ubuntu and followed the instructions. when I type the following: "gdisk -l /dev/sde" I receive an error message:
"GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.5.1
NOTE: Write test failed with error number 13. It will be impossible to save
changes to this disk's partition table!
Problem opening /dev/sde for reading! Error is 13
You must run this program as root or use sudo!"
My device is not rooted, is this the problem?
Please help me!!
Thanks
@NNCa It says you need to run the program as root on ubuntu.
Just use sudo in front of the commands.
You need to type once your password to use sudo, you can't see the password if you enter it for safety I guess but just click enter after you typed ykur password.

Hi,
I powered off my phone by pressing volume down + power for a while ("LG" logo blinked once and phone was fully powered off).
I pushed volume down + power till I saw the LG logo, released it, and pushed again- and finally I reached the Factory Hard Reset screen. I have pushed 3 times the power, and I have got "Factory reset processing..." and nothing is appeared, even when I'm pushing several times on power again.
I guess this is the end of my G2 :crying:
Thank you all for your support, this is an excellent forum!:good::good:

Nope it isn't the end try to install the recovery again or try to push the custom twrp recovery again to the right partition! Dont give up that fast when i hear your things then its still fixable! you already got the factory reset processing so try to Push the Recovery again and search for an guide about recovery maybe Then you would probably get your device fixed.
Just read my things about simplicity so think easy and you can fix it. AND STAY POSITIVE You will repair your phone today :good:

Hi, sorry to say but you have unfortunately completely hardbricked your device. It happened to me too however I was able to get it replaced under warranty at no extra cost.
What happened was that when your phone was still detected by linux, you had a chance to recover by flashing the correct partitions to gain access to download mode and from there, flash a KDZ to go back to complete stock. However, the files you used were probably incompatible with your variant which has now corrupted your bootloader sequence. I suggest you read this reply by fizzy177 as well as the rest of the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51522304&postcount=118
So right now, you cannot do anything as you have already found out, no computer will recognise that your phone is plugged in. Your phone fails to boot when you try enter the download mode and it just freezes on the splash screen which looks like this: http://www.lg-phones.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/image2.png
What's meant to happen is your phone should load past that initial splash screen into this http://www.androiddunya.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/LG-G2-DownloadMode.jpg which accepts KDZ flashing and warns the device has been rooted.
So it's a blessing that your phone cannot boot as LG cannot find out you have voided warranty and you will be able to get a replacement free of charge.
Issue was solved- device was fixed under warranty
Hi,
I just want to update you all that my device was fixed under warranty! (motherboard replacement)

Hello
From past 2 weeks i am wondering on internet for a solution . Hours and hours of surfing and articles but still
Hope some one solve this issue.
Okay. First i m using LG G2 F320 K update to lollipop . Non rooted. It was working fine . I can transfer files in MTP .
But about a month ago i get an update for my phone . And after some days i need to transfer some files to my phone , i wonder when i connected my phone to computer nothing happened . No notification on mobile for changing PTP MTP option . Also nothing happened in Computer device manager..
From that day i am unable to connect my phone with windows 10. It always charging mobile.
I uninstalled all drivers in device manager and installed from LG website. I updates windows N and NK MTP update from windows for windows 10.
I changed different data cables and different computers and different ports . All stuff i can do. Still no luck.
When ever i plug USB data cable it always put my Mobile on Charging . No notification on Mobile. Also i go in setting > storage> and there is no option in upper right corner to select USB PC connection .
I am in developer mode and debugging mode is on also. Also USB tethering option is Disabled .
Kindly some one help me regarding this.
LG G2 F320K updated to stock Koren lollipop 5.0.1 . Non root.( i updated lollipop in April 2015)
Issue i am facing is no notification for Charging/ MTP/PTP Usb Debugging on mobile notice bar when i attach my phone using USB cord with computer. Also in computer device manager nothing happen. Even i checked on windows 10 , 8.1, 8, 7 .
I remember it was working like charm 4 weeks before I can change MTP PTP or Charge only mode by selecting notification when i attach it to my laptop. I can transfer files can use LG PC suit .
Then i received an software update like 40 mb and i updated my mobile. That i remembered.
After that 2 weeks before i need to transfer some books from laptop to my mobile. When i plugged my device there no notification to select MTP mode . Also there is nothing happened in my windows 10. I looked in task manager. No yellow icon in computer task manager for driver thing.
Laptop is just silent and mobile is just on charging .
Then i go to setting in LG and looked for USB PC connection settings. I wonder there is nothing . Settings > storage > 3 dot in upper right corner.. it suppose to be there . But here is no 3 dot in storage. Then i looked into share and networks in android setting and i found that USB tethering. But its faded mean it is disabled and i am unable to use this feature also.
I tried on different computers different cables , original, but nothing. Always when i plug usb mobile went on charging and in all computers nothing happen in device manager.
USB debugging is on.. I factory reset device 2 times. but useless. Also i uninstall all drivers from my laptop and then reinstall drivers from LG website also i tried google drivers , ABD, different ports. Nothing nothing happen.
Also now if i try put mobile on download mode by turning device off and then push + vol button and then put cord in mobile . No download mode also it went on charging. Well charging from laptop or from charger is okay.
Hope i explain all.

[Q] LG G2 Unbricking!

Hi all, looking for advice, thanks in advance.
I'm a noob so bear with me with the terminology
I have tried this method - [FIX] NO Recovery mode, No download mode, after OTA on rooted LG G2 - on my LG G2 after a failed attempt to install the CloudyG3 Custom Rom. It restored and installed TWRP and couldn't boot to anything else. I did not have any files on the the phone's internal memory such as a ROM ready to flash.
...a few confusing steps trying to put files on the phone later (which I can't recall now ) I restarted the phone and now it simply became stuck at the LG logo. It is able to go into Download Mode (photo attached) but is different than before which looked like a two arrows in a circle. It does not respond to the 'LG Support Tool, UpTestEX and KDZ file' method. It starts downloading and installing the firmware then stalls at 15% everytime.
So I returned to - [FIX] NO Recovery mode, No download mode, after OTA on rooted LG G2 - using Ubuntu to restore the imgs and get TWRP back at least. Instead of seeing a large list of paths like before:
/dev/sda /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda5
/dev/sdb1 /dev/sdb2 /dev/sdb3 /dev/sdb4
/dev/sdb5 .......... /dev/sdb36

All I see now is just:
/dev/sda /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda5

I don't what else to do now, just holding onto the fact my phone isn't a complete brick! Any solution would be appreciated!

jelly'K: Whenever I plug it into Windows using USB, it does not recognise it as removable storage or device. No system notifications, no pop-up dialogs and it isn't available in Windows Explorer.

Jelly'K: That's the problem I try to but my computer doesn't recognise it under 'Device Manager'.
I tried installing the drivers through the LG Tools, but nothing again.
When I start up the LG Support Tool to select the KDZ file (with correct settings) it starts to verify the phone and then stops around 15% and an error message comes up saying the phone is not connected.
This is where it should seem easy to fix but not the case!

Bricked my LG L5-E610 or have I?

Hey ^^
I recently tried to install a custom rom on my LG L5-E610 so I rooted the device, unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM Recovery on it. So far so good.
Btw I was going to use this custom rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-l3-l5-l7/development/l5-l7-cyanhacker-v2-0-sbp-t3061734
Beeing in CWM I flashed GApps, SuperSU and the rom of course AS WELL AS some sort of baseband (which I think is something that I was not supposed to do as it's not claimed in the custom rom thread)
And now everytime I try to power up the phone this happens: (video on my dropbox) https://www.dropbox.com/s/eifhw0pk1kwz2fd/LG L5 problem.mp4?dl=0
However sometimes after beeing stuck on that screen (and the screen turns off) i can (after pressing the home button) use the phone normally with the custom rom on it. Although sometimes the touchscreen or the speakers won't work.
But usually it's stuck like shown in the video.
I also can't enter CWM Recovery anymore.
Nothing helps so I hope some kind person on XDA can help me
Thanks in advance,
Schubi_1 ^^

Don't be desperate
You installed the baseband of aidasaidas75. I don't know why he made this new baseband, but several people have passed or are going through this situation you are going through right now. Download this file which contains a tutorial that I did (with videos) and follow in the order. Here is the link to download: http://www.mediafire.com/download/puibfc3chbrw2zs/tutorial.rar

The screen is gray? It should show the LG Logo and a message like "Don't remove the USB cable" or something...
Have u done this procedure? ---> 1st - Remove the battery and insert again | 2nd - Click the Volume Up (or Down, try both and see which one works) button and connect USB cable to PC | 3rd - Open KDZ and flash the stock ROM (or whatever .KDZ file you have for the e610) | 4th - If it shows an error in KDZ like Wparam or Lparam (0) just ignore it and wait till it reaches (100) | 5th - Let the phone reboot... You have to be patient here because it takes a really long time! | 6th - Enjoy your phone

my phone doesn't show any logos
the moment it turns on the screen the screen just stays as shown in the video
whenever i connect the phone to the computer (whilst pressing both volume up+down) and then start the kdz updater the only thing that shows up is:
PHONE WAS NOT FOUND!
i tried most of the things you suggested but nothing works
i think the problem is that i'm missing some sort of driver as my phone doesn't get detected by the computer as a LG L5 but instead as "android" wich my computer thinks to be a Mass Storage Device.

you have to leave the screen like this:
View attachment 3716606
If you get put in this way, just connect to your PC and have them install the Stock ROM.
Now, if you could not leave it, try other key combinations to try to enter download mode.
do not give up!!!

Did I hard brick my h990DS

In trying to root it, I downgraded to H990DS10b_00_open_ame_ds_op_1103 via Uppercut. From there I followed carefully the "dirty Santa comes for the H990" thread. I got through to the "untrusted app" message, but I did not get the bat.2 on the cmd window. So I had to restart the phone, and the screen was weird and unreadable. By coincidence Uppercut was not working, giving "error reading from file" on my Windows machine. So from here I did the mistake and got too impatient. At that time I could still see the phone via ADB. Then I thought it might be helpful to do a hard reset - which obviously was a big mistake. Now it powers up showing the LG logo, gives the sound and turns into a weird screen. I can make sound from it by pressing the screen, but after some time it reboots into is a black screen saying kernel crash. It says that I can restart by pressing vol down. When I do that, the same happens again. It also says that I can do ram drop using QPST configuration, whatever that means?
Do I have to say goodbye to it, of do I have any hope?
Doesn't sound like a hard brick to me. I would completely restart the rooting process.
What I would do however, is make sure that all the programs (LG UP etc) and DirtySanta files are correct and working.
Things to try:
• Make sure the drivers are installed correctly. You can google for LG USB drivers. Install and restart.
• Make sure LG UP is run as administrator (as a precaution to access devices)
• Hold Vol Up while the device is off and the plug in the usb cable (while the other end is plugged into the machine) - this should get you into Download mode
• Make sure that you are running the "Run Me First" files in Dirty Santa. This is a common mistake that I have made before even when re-rooting for the tenth time.
• Run all the Dirty Santa CMD files as administrator (it can't hurt).
As far as the screen, does it look like white noise? if so, it is a known kernel incompatibility (the stock kernel) with root. Best thing to do, is that when you get to the step that requires you to install TWRP and then reboot using the reboot command in fastboot, is that you actually pull the batter out after installing TWRP and then reboot into recovery using the hardware keys (Vol Down and Power Button, then let go of Power Button and repress it whilest holding Vol Down but ONLY when the LG logo first appears.).
This is just some general troubleshooting, and not in any particular order. Hopefully it is of some help.
Thank you very much. I appreciate Some observations before I move on. Yes, the screen looks like white noise. In download mode - it only shows download mode shortly in an box, and then goes to white noise again. I mave manages to get in touch with it from Windows in fastboot mode, here it gives me a serial number from LGUS996, definitely not my h990DS? Is that normal?
Another thing, right now Uppercut is teasing me. I think I started it from the zip file, so now it is looking for the program in a temp file that I cannot find. I need to find out how to remove that link in windows to move on with LGUP.

Even though there is white noise in download mode, download mode will still function.
I'm not sure about the serial number thing though. Is it a refurb?
Rather copy Uppercut to its own file outside of the .zip and also disable your antivirus just incase while you are running it. Run it as administrator.
Honestly, I would go into Download mode and user Uppercut to flash a completely stock KDZ. Then try the process over again from the start.
I've had this exact issue and it is totally recoverable.
Thank you so much for the help. Because of that I am now back to a working phone. Have installed the old KDZ file, and now it correctly says that I have a H990DS phone again. You were right about antivirus - even if I thought I had disabled it, I had not, and that made the strange message in uppercut. I will try rooting once more - this time I know how more about what to do if it goes wrong.
I have now re-installed the santa files again, and everything goes fine according to the description until the message about installing step 2, that message never comes to the first cmd window, unfortunately. And I have not (yet) dared to start the step 2 bat from a new cmd window. As I read the description, it should give me a message in the first started cmd window, right?

Did you do the terminal thing on the phone? Also have you installed and drivers the right way?you definitely skip something
I think you are right, I can just not understand what. I did the terminal thing, yes and no failure messages of any kind, just no messages at the first cmd screen. . The drivers works fine for everything else, so I cannot imagine any problem there.
I have now tried several times to do the procedure. It all goes very well until the point where there should come a message in the runmefirst command window. No message comes, and for this reason I have not dared to go on. It gives all the right messages on the terminal window on the phone until the point where I have to run step2.bat. I have become pretty good at recovering via LGUP, but do any of you have a hint for me? I have disables antivirus, and I run the windows as administrator?
edit: I succeeded, by simply moving on without any messages from the runmefirst. Worked fine. So now I am rooted Thank you very much JL and Mike for the help.
