[Q] Silence Individual Group message - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know how to silence individual group messages on the galaxy s5 (Verizon) like people with the new Iphone 6 can do? I had an S4 with a custom ROM which allowed you to do this, but I can't find anything on how to do this on the S5.
On the custom S4 ROM I was able to select 1 group message, and turn off the notifications on it, but still receive notifications for all other group and individual messages.
Please help,
Thanks,
Sean

I know I use the messages+ app by Verizon and I can long press the msg and mute the conversation hope that helps

The specific question as stated in the OP. I want to be able to silence individual group messages, not all group messages. I would like to do it using the samsung messaging app, not the verizon messaging app because I prefer the samsung app over the verizon app.

Well first off, I wanted to be clear. Secondly, you cannot. You can turn off notification for all group messages, not one. I do not really use Messaging+, but I can try it and let you know. I would suggest maybe looking for that GS4 custom rom and see if they updated it for the GS5. Sorry mate. Wish I could of found the right solution for you.

My phone originally seemed to work great for group texting....now doesn't seem to work...idk
And neither of you are on stock rom are you. The Rom you're on doesn't support group messages.

Group Messaging on both stock ROM and CM10.1 Nightlys have worked fine for me. It all depends on who you're sending it to and how they handle group messaging.
Prior to the S4 I had a iPhone 4S. I regularly have a group message with two iOS users, and one BlackBerry user.
On iOS 6.1.2, it handles it fine. One box for all 3 users. Every response from all 3 users would go into the same group box chat.
On my S4, with stock ROM, using both stock messaging apps and 3 different Messaging apps I tried out, and on CM10.1 Nightly, it has some issues but its the other devices causing the issue. Same 3 users, 2 iOS and one BlackBerry. I can group text all 3 users. They will all get my group text in a Single box. The two iOS users responses will show up in the group chat. However, the BlackBerry's response will show up in a separate box from just that user. (Hard to tell if they are talking to just me or the group).
This is due to the nature of group messaging. By the standard spec, MMS and SMS messages do not allow group messaging. However, there is non-standard protocol and headers in MMS and SMS that will allow for Group Messaging so long as the phone supports it. That's the tricky part. Because there's no standard for it, every phone and device implements it differently. When I send group chats its sent as a MMS message. iOS picks up on this and replies in kind with a MMS message. Apparently BlackBerry, at least the way my friend has it set up, it gets the group message but instead replies with a SMS. Apparently iOS had a way of deciphering that the SMS was a reply to that group chat, and throws it in the same group chat. However, Android is not able to tell that that SMS belongs to the group chat for some reason and interprets it as a separate text.
So it's all about what devices/settings your friends have set up and whether they reply in the correct manner that Android can respond in.
Thankfully for me 90% of my friends have iPhones which does support group messaging fully, at least where it can interact with my S4 properly, and so long as they have the "Group Messaging" function turned on it Settings>Messages, so it's not much of an issue for me. Just this one friend with a Blackberry I have a issue with. Theoretically you would run into issues with Android so long as they have Android 4.2+ or GoSMS or any 3rd party Messaging app that supports groups.

[Q] Group Messaging iphone users

i had the gs4 on release and i was messaging iphone users in group chat all the time then i switched back to the iphone 5 in june and now just recently about 3 days ago i switched back to the gs4 and i can't get any replies from people in the group chat. any advice im running shostock rom if that helps.
i checked online and i have removed the device and changed the password and even turned i message off on the original phone. what now
So nothing changed at all on the S4? You were using shostock initially as well? Do you have group messaging turned on in your sms/mms settings? (not sure if this feature is in shostock)

Did you check your messaging settings to see if there's a group messaging option?

I use the stock ROM on my AT&T S4 on MF3 and with "Group Messaging" enabled from Message > Settings - I usually have no problems. Sometimes longer messages come in from an iPhone user and I have to first hit "Download" and then it appears in the group message.
Try handcent, it always works for me. Also, stock messaging app has a group chat box, make sure its ticked. and data has to be on in order to group message. They send as MMS.

Group Text / Messaging Woes

Let me first start by saying that I know there are a ton of threads out there supporting issues with users who switch from and iPhone to an S4 and not being able to receive ANY group messages. this is NOT one of those cases.
I have an S4 on AT&T, rooted, stock rom. i use the included/stock SMS/MMS app for my messaging purposes. I know there are alternatives, but this is bugging the crap out of me, so here I go:
I have a group message going with 3 other people with details as follows: Contact 1 - t-mo Windows Phone 8x, Contact 2 - AT&T iPhone 4s, Contact 3 - Verizon S4. When i send a group message, EVERYONE receives it as a group message. when Contacts 1 and 2 respond to the group, i see it as grouped, as does everyone else. When Contact 3 responds, Contacts 1 and 2 see his response as grouped, however, I receive it as an individual message.
This behavior has been consistent on every rom i've tried (unfortunately being on MF3 i'm kinda limited to Tw based, but I digress). If i use textra, chomp, gosms, Contact 3's responses show as part of the group, not individual. what's weirder about this is if I head back to the stock app after Contact 3 responds and his response shows in the group; but when i use the stock app, the aforementioned behavior occurs.
I have literally (at least I think) tried everything beyond a "reflash" suggested by samsung support.
a couple of "requirements" that I've already checked:
1. group messaging - checked
2. mms - enabled
3. mobile data - enabled
i'm getting to my wits end with this. any assistance ANYONE can offer would be amazing!
thanks!
Ha, guess in the only one this is affecting. :/ damn

I have searched and searched as well.. My scenario is close to the same. Any group message my girlfriends is included on (verizon Note II) the exact same thing happens. Her message I receive as a individual separate message, and everyone else receives it in the group.
P.S. Im on an AT&T S4
anyone else?
Fixed the issue. Left the s4 got an HTC one. Couldn't be happier.

That's a sure bummer. Tons of people are switching devices because of things similar to this and of course MF3 locking things up. Referring to your message (although you switched), on my S4, I have that problems sometimes. I also sometimes receive the group message in our individual convo allowing me to download it. After downloading it, it appears in the group chat. Odd behavior.
Glad you found a fix.
I usually have use MMS for group chats on textra and it works fine for me but you have to be on 4g for it to push and send.

I already tried but as android 4.4 application to choose a single sms applying it does not work I keep the stock sms hangouts because I do not like, but apparently no blocker only works because of the fact that 4.4 4 days I sleep almost not tried to find one.
Can you try? or ask someone who is very knowledgeable on this forum as I am new here and nobody answered me finally not many people.
Thank you.
Try GoSMS
I'v been using Gosms premium version for a year now. it has a section for private conversations that you can protect with a password and other methods. it also notifies you when a message arrives from a private contact with a customized notification.

[Q] has anyone enabled text message blocking?

when I had my GS 3 for Sprint you could add a number to spam messages and it wouldn't notify you. I know the other carriers get this feature with Samsung messaging on the s5. Has anyone been able to unlock it?
I started using hangouts because it has a similar feature, but whenever I use ultra power saving mode, that defaults to Samsung messaging, it shows me the messages from the people I don't want.
bump. it seems like something someone must have looked into at this point
