I haven't received the z3c yet but wanted to start theis thread early so everyone can post what display setting there using and any issue on the display. This is from the phone areana review.
" Color accuracy is way off on the Xperia Z3 Compact. Sony has gone purposefully with a colder, noticeably bluish display with color temperature reaching the whopping 10000K (while 6500K is the reference value, and everything above it is cold). Color balance in greyscale is noticeably skewed towards the blue across all brightness levels. Color purists have the option to adjust color balance with separate controls for red, green, and blue. With some fiddling (you’d need to add in a lot more red, and a bit more green to get to more balanced colors,*we tweaked it to the following values: red ~ 250, green ~ 190, blue ~ 0), you can get to the point where colors are not outrageously blue, but getting this right is no trivial task and requires either a trained eye, or a colorimeter."

It's great that we have white balance settings, but the only thing I don't like about it is that it decreases screen brightness when applied.
for me its Red 40, Green 75 and Blue 0
If anyone has a colorimeter at hand it would be greatly received if they could perform some tests and provide the optimum RGB values.

No - I'm no color purist, but the extreme blue tint was very obvious and off-putting. Very puzzling choice on Sony's part, it makes the screen look really bad.
I turned off X-Reality and put it side-by-side with my Moto G and adjusted the sliders until it more or less matched my Moto G. I'm still fiddling with it, but right now I have it set to Red 120, Green 145, Blue 0.
Doesn't the display get significantly darker when using high values for white balance?
Leaving XReality on - I like R:20, G:20, B:0. Just warms things up a tad without overdoing it.
So is everyone experiencing the same blueish tint?

A little bit, I guess? It's still more than readable for me in sunlight, and I'm using Red 120 + Green 145.
I've been using Red 40 + Green 73. No "Image Enhancements"... my reality is enhanced enough, thank you. It does *appear* dimmer, but I'm going to assume that's a physiological color perception issue. You can increase the brightness of the display while keeping the ambient light sensor on, which is a nice feature. Also, the screen can still get blisteringly, stupidly bright if you disable the sensor and crank it all the way up, even with those settings.
I have a colorimeter, and I know that the diagnostics menu lets you do a series of display tests (including flipping to red/green/blue). Does anybody know if those panels apply your color balance settings? Or, alternatively, a good (preferably free) Android app to help with calibration?
Also, seriously, WTF Sony. The displays look almost comically bad straight out of the box. I feel bad for every user who buys the phone and never delves into these settings. :|

As far as I'm aware, the reason why Sony's white balance option makes the screen appear dimmer is because it's not really a true white balance option, but rather a sort of workaround where it adds a coloured transparent overlay to the screen. Higher values mean that the overlay becomes less transparent so the colour overlay will appear more intense while making the screen appear dimmer consequently. There are third party white balance apps in the Play Store which have exactly the same effect, although those also add a bit of lagginess to everything. But the colour and dimming effect is the same.

Huh. I mean, I use Twilight (basically the Android version of f.lux) on my Nexus 5, and have never noticed lag issues. It is *definitely* an overlay, though. That's very surprising that Sony would use such a method, as they actually have access to the actual firmware. You would think, as such, that it would allow you to use ICC color profiles.

Ah, no, I meant apps to correct the white balance, not colour measuring apps. I used to try one of such apps on my old xperia tablet s because its display had a noticeable yellow hue. It did make the colours better, albeit a little dimmer, but everything seemed to be laggy/choppy when the effect was applied.
Oddly, according to my Spyder4, good settings are R:0, G: 137, B: 255.

Well, the screen is said to be blueish and you're adding extra blue so of course that's not the way to fix it.

I noticed that when I turn my brightness down my phone gets a purplish tint but it goes away as the brightness goes up. Is this because its special type of LED screen or the over saturation of colors?

I did notice this as well. Some of the red pixels on the edges of text seemed to have drifted a little too far from the body of the glyph. I actually thought the same thing as this poster - sounds like they need to tweak their "subpixel LCD text" algorithms to match the different layout of the OLED screen.
I'd add to his analysis that subpixel LCD text algorithms typicall employee adjustments for the non-linear response of the pixels (steps of brightness near the dim end of the scale are not the same perceived size as steps of brightness near the bright end of the scale) and OLED may not only have different non-linear response, but it may have different response in each of its R, G, and B pixel elements...
This all should be tweakable in software and is bound to be improved as OLED screens gain popularity.
Anyone having the "Blue Tint" problem? it happens when i am on the lowest brightness level and i open up the gmail app the white has a bluish tint. I went to the tmobile store and they exchanged my phone because the display model displayed perfect white when set at the lowest brightness and the gmail app was opened. some euro galaxy s users are also reporting of a blue tint problem when displaying whites. I've got the same issue. I just figured it was a product of the SAMOLED screen, but I guess I'll swing by the T-Mob store tomorrow and see what's up.
I thought it was a little strange that the Gmail client opened and the tint changed a bit. I also figured it was just something that happens with the SAMOLED.
Please give us an update after you stop by the T-mo store.
Yep its blue here too. I sorta thought it was a bit odd, but figured oh well it sure is easy on the eyes thou.
Can you provide an example?

uhh, that's not normal?
When my wife first saw the screen she said there was a blue tint to it but I wasn't able to see it. But now that others are seeing it too, maybe it is a problem.
Here's what I did... I downloaded one of those flashlight apps that turns your entire screen white. I then did a screen shot with Shoot Me app (for root users).
Then I compared the screen shot with the actual screen and took a picture of it.
I'm not sure if this is a good enough experiment since color settings on my monitor can be different but here is a pic for you guys nonetheless.
The Vibrant color temperature appears to be running hot at about 7800K. There should be a way to adjust the color temperature somewhere.
Someone posted about this in the i9000 section.

Seems like it's an SAMOLED issue, but if others have seen demo phones that appear 'warmer', maybe it's not.
Just got back from my trip to the T-Mob store and played with the demo model and 2 reps personal phones any they all have the same issue. I'm going to chalk it up to it being part of the SAMOLED technology and ignore it. It doesn't bother me at all, but if it was a small group that had the issue, I would have exchanged my phone.

This very interesting because I did recognize the blue tint on my phone as well, however my girlfriends phone has a soft yellow tint.
I'm curious what is causing this to happen.
(I remember on the iphones, the old ones had a blue clear tint, while the newer screens had the very same soft yellow tint to it. I know they are two very different screen technology, but it's interesting that I'm seeing it again, except on two of the same batch of phones. I checked the boxes and they are from the same, "litter.")
Anyone find out how we can adjust the color temp on our phones?
I guess, Samsung just averaged this tint. Since blue amoleds with time degrade faster then others, the things will be better at some point and end up with yellow tint several years from now.

First and foremost, I wouldn't call it a "problem," as the thread indicates. It just is what it is and does no harm...
Anyhow here's some pictures I took of the four Vibrants I have. You can definitely see the contrast now. My phone is #4 on far right. Ice cold blue eh? or actually blue flame kelvin hot! It looks like my HID's on my car and the yellow on the other phones look like my stock yellow oem headlights...
Something I noticed today while reading through comments on Endgadget is that every time I would scroll down (or up), the tint would turn more blue as it scrolled. Release my finger from the screen, and the tint would "snap" back to yellow.
The difference in tint is very subtle, but once I caught onto it, I found it distracting.
I cant say I'm able to replicate this behavior on other websites. Google News and NYT, for example, are fine. Furthermore, I'm not seeing it in the XDA app, Gmail, or the Market.
My overall screen brightness is set to 0 and my browser brightness is also at 0.
Anyone else seeing this?
I have an iphone 3G in hand next to my Vibrant. The iphone's browser clearly has a very neutral white, whereas the Samsung presents whites as very blue-green and much dimmer. I have mine set to auto-bright levels. How do you change the browser's brightness independently?

Probably the case. Now I'm wondering if it's a setting in the software or if it's a physical LED characteristic?

I can replicate this issue on XDA via the brower on any brightness setting. The screen's slight blue (cool) tint becomes yellowy (warm) when I hold my finger on the page or scroll. Additionally, images become noticeably distorted during the hold-tap, so I assume low quality cache images are being generated for smoother scrolling, and the color temperature is accidentally changed as well.
This would appear to be an issue that software fixes may be able to counter (if any of this is indeed a hardware issue in the first place).
I recently got a Fascinate and I've noticed that, compared to my dad's Fascinate, the color balance is significantly more blue on my phone at all brightness levels and is especially noticeable when looking at a primarily white webpage such as google's. While it's probably not something I would've noticed had I not had another screen to compare it to, it has really been bothering me and I'm wondering whether I should try to have it replaced before my 30 days is up (It just so happens today is the 30th day).
In trying to find info on this issue I've come across a lot of conflicting accounts about color balance problems on the SF. Some say their phone has the blue tint while others complain of a yellowish tint. One of my worries about exchanging this device is that the blue tint may actually be preferred or even intended on Samsung's part because according to the wikipedia article on OLED:
Additionally, as the OLED material used to produce blue light degrades significantly more rapidly than the materials that produce other colors, blue light output will decrease relative to the other colors of light. This differential color output change will change the color balance of the display and is much more noticeable than a decrease in overall luminance. This can be partially avoided by adjusting colour balance but this may require advanced control circuits and interaction with the user, which is unacceptable for some users. In order to delay the problem, manufacturers bias the colour balance towards blue so that the display initially has an artificially blue tint, leading to complaints of artificial-looking, over-saturated colors. More commonly, though, manufacturers optimize the size of the R, G and B subpixels to reduce the current density through the subpixel in order to equalize lifetime at full luminance.

The problem is there is no citation given for the section in bold so I cannot be sure if manufacturers are actually using this method. It's possible Samsung uses the "more common" method and my device is simply a defect.
Has anyone had a similar experience with their screen?
Can anyone confirm whether this is intentional or unintentional on Samsung's part?
Do you guys think I should try to get a replacement?
tl;dr
My SF has a bluish tint to the color balance, should I try to get it replaced?
Hmm I noticed my replacement Fascinate had a purplish tint (mainly towards the bottom) on the screen.. This was not apparent on my original.. May it rest in piece(s).
Search for the voodoo project(?) on google.
Btw my screen is more blue than my girlfriends even when I have color fix. Not a big deal.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
My Fascinate has a yellow tint - very slight at full bright, but rather noticeable when the phone downshifts to low-brightness.
The one at the store was similar, so I didn't worry about it, but the voodoo folks have a color fix. I have avoided voodoo thus far, so I have no idea how effective it is.
color fix only works at 100% brightness.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
And if anyone has, can you tell us A: what parameters it actually lets you change, B: do these changes apply universally or only in certain apps, and C: if this is actually supposed to affect the physical properties of the display in some way (in the way that the contrast control on an LCD TV might), or if it's just doing a Bravia-like trick and messing around with the pixel values?

Like make a screenshot with unaltered settings then next is try to adjust it and let us see how big is the difference.
I repeat my earlier question: does anyone know what this software actually does? For example, suppose I'm looking at a screen full of white pixels (red 255, green 255, blue 255), and I've used the software to push the white balance towards red; what does that do? Does it actually change the physical display characteristics of the screen, so I'm now still looking at pixels that are red 255, green 255, blue 255, but the screen has changed the way those RGB values are displayed, (i.e. red 255 is now brighter than it was and blue 255 dimmer); or is it simply hacking what is sent to the screen so that what was originally r255g255b255 is now r255g240b220 (or whatever)? And does this apply universally, or is it a subset of Bravia? And is there anything that can be tweaked other than the three controls we've seen in the screenshot?

What is the other phone? Go to settings -> display -> color mode and set color to normal, that will normalize it a little. It's set on vibrant by default. Regardless of that setting though, the screen on this phone is a "warm" one compared to others. The phone on the left is "cold" and bluish in comparison. Warm screens are a little more yellow/red, cold are blue. If the other phone is AMOLED there's your reason, but even if it's LCD, it's just tuned a bit differently. You should know that the phone on the left isn't producing a perfect white either, just a kind of white you're used to. Personally I prefer a warm screen, I find colder screens harder on my eyes.
TLDR- it's working as intended.
Unless you screwed with some settings no that isn't normal. If my whites were that yellow I'd return it. While an LCD might never be as white or black as an amoled it shouldn't look like 20 year old yellow paper either. WIth LCDs if you lower the brightness the screen will become more colored but nothing like that. You can also go compare it to some phones at the store that have LCD's and get an idea if its out of whack.
I spoke to two different support people at motorola ...one said it was normal for this phone as the screen was optimized for gaming?? .....the other said it was not normal and I should return it.
I tried using the app 'screen adjuster' to boost the blue light and it did indeed make it look white rather than yellow so it seems to be a color temperature setting so I'm still not sure wether changing the phone would make any difference and I can't compare in stores because they don't have them yet.
p.s. the other phone is an LG G2 which is LCD
Mine seems to have a little yellow at low screen brightness but it doesn't seem as bad as in your photo. I probably would not have noticed if not for this thread. Is your screen brightness low? Mine gets more white as the brightness goes up.

If it bothers you you can go through the return process and see if another one is different. My phone looks pretty much the same next to my Galaxy Note n-7000. That's AMOLED, but AMOLED or not, screens can be bluish. For perspective, here's what white looks like for reference. Neither of the phones are producing white. One is bluish, one is yellowish. Do you notice it when you're not comparing phone screens? After a few minutes of looking at the screen, going from app to app or looking at pictures, do white things register as white?
